We came here over the weekend and had the chicken noodle soup special that came with a coffee and a dish of fried chicken dumplings. I had the plain noodle soup with pho noodles. We were pretty disappointed with the food. The broth did not have flavor like the pho we are used to having and we didn't feel the best afterward. The Vietnamese coffee was probably the best part of the meal. The guava juice was not listed under "canned drinks" but when I got it, it was canned, which I found odd about the discrepancy on the menu. Not sure we would return. read more

We have found that most pho places close early, so we were glad we were able get her on time and support another new place. I did really like the green side ginger, and almost asked for more. My wife added sriracha which took it to the next level. Atmosphere - Small local business. Indoor and outdoor seating. I was having a hard time deciding what to have for dinner on a cold, rainy night, and my usual go-to spot for pho ga was closed on Monday, so I decided to give this place a try. I initially tried ordering online, but it wouldn't work, so I called to place my order. The lady who answered was very sweet and politely said, "I'm so sorry, I don't speak English well. Good on a normal day and just like a hug on a day when you're feeling a little off or sick. Let's start with the braised chicken, the crown jewel of Pho Ga 88's menu. This isn't just chicken it is a tender, flavor-soaked ode to poultry, slow-cooked to a melt-in-your-mouth majesty that rivals the finest Hainanese chicken or Empress chicken I've ever tasted. (Yes, these are all styles of my favorite ways to prepare chicken - toss in some pork stomach and wasabi and THIS IS MY TOP DISH EVER - h/t to Tin's Teapot in Hayward). What better than a bowl of hot soup. In this case chicken pho. The seven of us sat at two tables butted together. Menu wise - a double sided hard cardboard menu with pictures of each numbered menu item. There's also a neon menu posted above the order/ cashier counter. The slight difference is that appetizers are listed on the neon menu. The server came over and took our orders. What hubby & I ordered- #1. Pho Ga - this was my order. A very generous portion size of noodles with good portion size of poached chicken. Good tasting broth. #8. Fried chicken over soup noodles. Hubby's order. Similar to mine except fried chicken served on the side. I tasted a piece. Crispy. Each person got a small dish of minced green and ginger in oil for dipping. And those with fried chicken got a spicy red dipping sauce too. I also liked how each person ordering soup noodles got his/her own dish of jalapeños with warm bean sprouts that you add to your soup noodles. You have a choice of noodles - pho, egg, ho fun, or vermicelli. We both went with pho noodles. Pro tip: anything that says fried or crispy you'll need to allow 20 minutes. Ga in Cantonese means chicken. Hence the speciality here is chicken. Poached, fried, steamed etc. Some of my group ordered #11 - looked very yummy. Big hearty offering. I might try this on my next visit. Service was quick and efficient. Those of us that didn't order fried got our orders sooner. However the kitchen can sync the orders to come all at once. Looking for soup to warm us up after golfing in the rain! We went to Pho Ga 88 to get noodle soup. It's a small but very clean establishment. They have a sign-in sheet so might get busy but we did not have to wait. Very nice service as waitress put tables together so 7 of us could sit together. Restaurant is in a strip and we've tried the restaurants on both sides of Pho Ga. Parking is easy but can get crowded as there are other restaurants an Asian market in the strip. Broth was good and not too salty and you can pick choice of Pho, Vermicelli, Ho Fun, or Egg Noodles for your soup. If you want fried chicken, it takes 20 minutes so be sure to order it right away. So nice that they asked our whole party if those that didn't order the fried chicken want to wait to be served with the others or served first. Of course, they wanted to be warmed up so served first by choice! Each person also served homemade ginger scallion sauce for dipping chicken.. You order at the table from a card menu but be sure you look at the appetizer items posted on the wall and the board up by the cashier. These appetizer items are not listed on the 2-sided card menu. Went here for the first time a week ago, and I was pleasantly surprised it was good. As the name says, it's serves only dishes with chicken, even the egg rolls. Instead of the usual pork they use ground chicken and it tastes just as good and couldn't really tell if it was chicken. I got the boneless chicken soup with egg noodles (you can choose from four different noodles) and it was really good. It had a light chicken broth with the chicken and the side items for usual pho. If you're having a hankering for steamed chicken, you may want to consider stopping at this Vietnamese spot in a nondescript strip mall deep in the residential part of San Leandro west of 880. I had a dickens of a time navigating my way to it, and as you can guess, I don't like to expose my dickens. They had just a few customers, regulars presumably, so they were happy to see me. I decided to go with their signature item, the $12.99 Pho Ga (Children Pho), because it was my first visit. Took me long enough to try this place out! Seriously the most memorable and best chicken pho I've had. The broth is clean and rich in pure chicken flavor. Each person gets a side of ginger scallion oil, which I like to combine with chili oil that's on the table and include it in each bite. Of course you also get a plate of bean sprouts, basil, jalapeño, and lime. They also serve complimentary hot jasmine tea. The menu is simple and straightforward: pho with different options of noodles and chicken variations, rice plates, egg rolls, and fried chicken. They also have some other appetizers and drink items that are not on their paper menus posted on the walls. I ordered the crispy whole leg to-go and reheated it in air fryer and it was incredibly juicy and tasty. This is located in the Manor Shopping Center where 88 Manor Market is. They offered hot tea to start rather than water probably because of the cold weather. Lap Cheong Spring Rolls - I was honestly disappointed with this. The choices are simple.. your choice of noodles or rice with your choice of chicken! I ordered the #2 Chicken with wide noodles. Order up, take a seat and in about 5-10 minutes your food is presented to you. This is NOT fast food. The braised chicken (dark meat bone-in chicken quarter chopped into bite sized portions) that arrives is absolute perfection with a taut outer skin and oh-so-tender meat, served atop your noodle soup of choice, or alongside a flavorful moist steamed rice that has been marinated in chicken juices. Small and unassuming place, but great pho ga! Came here for lunch. They are in the plaza with a grocery market just down the street from the church I used to attend. There is plenty of parking, but it can get busy due to the other stores + grocery market. They have a fairly simple menu with various options of chicken pho. You can change the options of noodle type from regular pho noodles to egg noodles to vermicelli and more. I opted for the number 1 which is a regular pho ga (chicken pho). The pho broth is really light, as expected from a chicken based broth as opposed to a beef based one. However, it was really flavorful. The chicken was really tender and went well with the ginger scallion oil that they provide. Service was very nice and friendly. They provide a cup of hot tea when you come in. Pho ga! -you're either Asian enough to order bone-in or boneless. (I'm not Asian enough) -it cost more to get dark meat only for the chicken soup. -Don't be afraid to ask for extra ginger scallion. -I would say traditional pho ga is served with ho fun but you can select from pho noodles, vermicelli, or egg noodles. It's disappointing when they run out of Ho fun! But it only happened once to us so we hope they up'd their ordering. Surprisingly we haven't tried the fried chicken rice plates yet so can't speak for that. The egg rolls are decent, has wood ear, in case you're not a fan. The sauce is kind of interesting though but I think it's only because I'm used to ordering it at Vietnamese restaurants that comes with fish sauce instead.
