This was my third visit and I went out of my way to come back, but unfortunately I tried something new that I did not end up liking. I ordered the pork vermicelli and found the pork to be overly sweet. It had a saucy texture and I am used to Vietnamese food where the pork is marinated, flame broiled, chopped, and served on top of the vermicelli. This seemed different, almost like it might have been stir fried or just reheated rather than grilled, and I did not enjoy the flavor at all. The dish came with a generous portion of vermicelli noodles, lettuce, a small amount of bean sprouts, and a small amount of chopped peanuts. I wish I had not mixed the peanuts in because I did not like the flavor and it affected the dish overall. I also missed having cucumber, and it could have used a bit more carrot for balance. I would not order this dish again. Service was good as before and the atmosphere is lively, and I do like the place overall, but I would only return for the soup. read more

This is one of my favorite pho places in the South Bay region. Their broth is so flavorful and delicious. It hits the spot when you're craving pho on a cold day. We especially like their #1 Combo Pho. The clear beef based broth is super savory, the thin rice noodles are perfectly cooked and al dente, the beef and tendon pieces are fresh and tender, and the sliced peppers provide the dab of spiciness. If you want more zing, all you need is a couple drops of squeezed lime or sriracha sauce. Their spring and egg roll combo is also one of our favorites. The spring roll wraps have a nice bouncy texture and the fillings of shrimp and veggies are always fresh with a nice hint of mint. Their egg rolls are perfectly fried and crispy. Wrapping each roll around with the lettuce leaf and dipping it into the fish or hoisin sauces is such a delectable experience. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. After finishing my meal, I noticed a long line at the register, so I went to the restroom before paying. When I came back, the staff appeared to assume that I had left without paying. I seem to be on a streak of places with fascinating decor and welcoming service, but food that I did not enjoy. The restaurant has a plethora of interesting vintage pieces. There are also a couple of outdoor tables. It seems quite clean and servers mask. Even the music is vintage --think Pat Boone and the 1950s. Unfortunately, to me, that music is extremely depressing and I should have asked to sit outdoors. The food was a major disappointment. It started off well enough with some ok rice and bean sprout and cabbage kimchi banchan. The restaurant serves Korean and Vietnamese dishes. My supposedly medium or spicy soon tofu stew was a watery mess of onions, some tofu that tasted off, one fresh mussel, a few bits of tasteless seafood, and something else I could not identify . I tried, but couldn't eat it. My husband's everything pho came with fresh basil and jalapeño slices. He didn't like it, but was able to eat it. First time eating there, and we got seated pretty quickly. It took a while to place our order, but once it was in, it was about 5 minutes before we started seeing the appetizers and the rest of the food come in. It's a super cute place, and they even have a Dodgers shrine and a bunch of vinyl records. Let's move on to the food. As we were eating our terribly salty pho (I will need to dilute this with a lot of water tonight), the man I believe to be the manager or owner started to offer guests leaving donuts that he got for free from next door's Yellow Vase. When we left, we didn't get offered any or get a friendly goodbye or thank you like all the other guests. Call me paranoid or whatever, but it seemed off. Anyway, I think sometimes not everyone is gonna like you, but sometimes I can't help but think it's racism. Everyone who got friendly goodbyes was Asian or white. My husband and I are a mix of Mexican and Black Caribbean, so I wonder. I've been coming to Pho Hana since 2014 back when I was a freshman in high school. I would always get their Thai tea boba before going to the library to study after school. I just visited again with my family and it still feels like home. The pho is comforting, filling, and delicious. And the boba is still fantastic! I've been here many times for Chicken Pho and Egg Rolls, and things were usually fine. But today was honestly terrible. The chicken in my pho was so tough and dry, and the egg rolls were literally dripping with grease. There was a pool of oil on the plate. I even tried blotting the egg rolls with a napkin to see if that would make them edible, but the napkin soaked up a whole sheet of oil--and it still wasn't enough. Based its name,, I expected Vietnamese food that was surprised that have the menu with Korean food. I opted to try one of lunch specials, which was all Korean food options. Excellent! I am surprised that I am barely trying Pho Hana, but I have to say absolutely amazed. I always order fried egg rolls and chicken pho at pho restaurants to see how they can deliver on these. Delicious! Those were the best spring rolls I've had in a very long time. I didn't get a chance to eat these for 30 minutes after they were ready and they were still crunchy throughout. There were no soggy pieces and they were full of flavor. I had the chicken pho the next day. It heated up perfectly and was impressed with the flavor. I tried it first before adding in limes, jalapeños, basil, and sriracha. WOW this is the best chicken pho I've had in a long time. Even after adding everything to it the base flavor still shone through. This place has been around for years...which for Palos Verdes is amazing! I've always had a good experience with Pho Hana so their longevity on the hill makes sense. We don't frequent Pho Hana too often but when we have, we've typically gotten take-out. We did, however, dine in last week and had a good experience as well. We ordered the dumplings ($10 for 8 potstickers) as an appetizer and they were tasty. I ordered the large brisket pho ($14.50) and really enjoyed it. I don't crave pho all that often but every once in a while, a comforting and tasty noodle soup (especially on this particular cold night) was just right. I enjoyed the flavor and all the ingredients; I particularly loved the large plate of fresh basil, jalapenos and bean sprouts that accompanied the soup and I threw a ton in along with some of the tableside provided sauces. I really like how you can customize the soup to your liking. In particular, I enjoyed putting the spicy sambal oelek and hoisin sauce in the soup on this visit. My wife ordered the BBQ chicken ($17.35 for small / $26.50 for large) and she enjoyed it. I had a bite and it was really tasty. I can't remember what size she ordered. My daughter ordered one of her favorite dishes on the planet, Korean BBQ Beef Shortribs ($27.40). They had great flavor but I think the price is too high. Or maybe I'm just used to buying the frozen ones at Trader Joe's for like $13. And they're really good, too! My son ordered the large seafood pho ($16.50) and enjoyed his and had plenty to take home. Speaking of leftovers...I was really looking forward to having mine 5 days later (after returning from a sudden weekend trip due to a death in the family) but I don't think pho is meant to sit like that. The flavors were all there but the noodles pretty much disintegrated. This, obviously, is no knock to the restaurant but purely my fault. The flavors were all there but I would have liked to have had intact noodles but instead they just kinda made the soup a little bit gloppy and all those fresh sides I threw in were a bit soggy.
