Fried Egg Rolls with Fish Sauce and Lettuce (Half Portion)

Pho Hana is our go to place whenever we need a quick meal or are too tired / lazy to cook. Their perfectly grilled pork ribs always satisfy our Korean BBQ craving. The broth from their pho provides stamina and comfort when someone is under the weather. What's more, the courteous staff make us feel welcome every time, and the year around Christmas tree and interesting memorabilia inside of the restaurant provide a cozy and uplifting atmosphere. We especially like their #1 Combo Pho. The clear beef based broth is super savory, the thin rice noodles are perfectly cooked and al dente, the beef and tendon pieces are fresh and tender, and the sliced peppers provide the dab of spiciness. If you want more zing, all you need is a couple drops of squeezed lime or sriracha sauce. Their spring and egg roll combo is also one of our favorites. The spring roll wraps have a nice bouncy texture and the fillings of shrimp and veggies are always fresh with a nice hint of mint. Their egg rolls are perfectly fried and crispy. Wrapping each roll around with the lettuce leaf and dipping it into the fish or hoisin sauces is such a delectable experience. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. Highly recommended.

I seem to be on a streak of places with fascinating decor and welcoming service, but food that I did not enjoy. The restaurant has a plethora of interesting vintage pieces. There are also a couple of outdoor tables. It seems quite clean and servers mask. Even the music is vintage --think Pat Boone and the 1950s. Unfortunately, to me, that music is extremely depressing and I should have asked to sit outdoors. The food was a major disappointment. It started off well enough with some ok rice and bean sprout and cabbage kimchi banchan. The restaurant serves Korean and Vietnamese dishes. My supposedly medium or spicy soon tofu stew was a watery mess of onions, some tofu that tasted off, one fresh mussel, a few bits of tasteless seafood, and something else I could not identify . I tried, but couldn't eat it. My husband's everything pho came with fresh basil and jalapeño slices. He didn't like it, but was able to eat it. Then again, he eats just about everything that isn't cheese. Others seem to like the food here, so perhaps it is better suited other tastes.

First time eating there, and we got seated pretty quickly. It took a while to place our order, but once it was in, it was about 5 minutes before we started seeing the appetizers and the rest of the food come in. It's a super cute place, and they even have a Dodgers shrine and a bunch of vinyl records. Let's move on to the food. As we were eating our terribly salty pho (I will need to dilute this with a lot of water tonight), the man I believe to be the manager or owner started to offer guests leaving donuts that he got for free from next door's Yellow Vase. When we left, we didn't get offered any or get a friendly goodbye or thank you like all the other guests. Call me paranoid or whatever, but it seemed off. Anyway, I think sometimes not everyone is gonna like you, but sometimes I can't help but think it's racism. Everyone who got friendly goodbyes was Asian or white. My husband and I are a mix of Mexican and Black Caribbean, so I wonder. Aaaanywayz, the egg rolls were good, as well as the fried rice and Vietnamese coffee--but I don't think I'll be returning here any time soon. Thanks for reading my wall of text. Edit: by the way, our order was $100 with tip.

highlights: - korean owned viet restaurant in PV peninsula shopping center, plenty of parking - if you live in torrance, come here for pho - tendon with vinegar and soy sauce is INCREDIBLE (they offer half size portion) - don't forget to get the onions on the side! - consistently amazing pho, support the locals

Charbroiled chicken and rice dish should not have fish sauce already inside. This is not real Vietnamese food.

Ordinarily, I don't care for the texture of shredded beef, but that's not on them, and the food was terrific. The banchan were plentiful and tasty; the cabbage kimchi was a standout. So why only 3 stars? From the beginning, the waiter, an older gentleman, was unsmiling. That's ok. I don't need him to smile or be friendly. I just need him to be a good waiter. But he wasn't -- at least not to me. He didn't check back on me even once. Never asked if I needed water, more banchan, another beer, never even glanced at me. He passed me multiple times, however, to dote on the other 3 tables that were occupied while I was there. I was the only one he completely ignored. There are three possible explanations that I could come up with, since when I spoke to him he assured me I had not offended him in some way. The first explanation, although unacceptable, isn't sinister. The other two are problematic. 1. I was the only one sitting by myself, and he thought he'd get a bigger tip at the other tables. It's not an ok thing to do: ignoring solo diners. But it happens, and I know everyone's got to make a living. This is the *most* benign explanation I can come up with. Or . . . 2. I was the only non-Asian in the place. 3. I was the only person with a visible disability in the place. I gave the waiter a chance. I calmly and quietly asked him to explain why he had ignored me completely and served the other tables to my exclusion. His answer: "I didn't want to disturb you." No, I didn't buy that either, and I told him so. I'm not quick to jump to conclusions like #2 or #3, but it's not looking good at this point for Kim's BBQ. I have friends who live and eat in PV, and God help this restaurant if I ever conclude that either of those is the reason for my treatment today. If I ever conclude that, I will not let it go. Clean it up, Kim's BBQ. There's eyes on you.
