I actually don't give out a lot of 5 star reviews but here is what I have to say. I come here often with my girlfriend who is Vietnamese. Remarkably cheap compared to other pho places $9-10 for a sizable bowl of pho. Pho Broth- 5/5 Pho Noodles- 5/5 Meat Quality-3/5 (though they give a lot) Garnish/Vegetables- 4.5/5 Service Time- 5/5 Atmosphere- 5/5 The meat is understandably lower in quality because of how cheap it is but maybe they could look into putting less meat but higher quality. My wife and I ordered vegetable pho with beef broth. When it arrived, the broth tasted horrid. It tasted very sugary. The broth had no other flavor whatsoever. It was like lukewarm dirty dishwater. The mushrooms were rubbery and chewy and like the carrots, corn pieces, and bamboo, they tasted like they were from a can. We asked the waitress if our soup broth was beef as we requested, and she got a shocked look on her face, apologized, and said she put the wrong broth on the order. My biggest complaint, however, was that the waitress's face mask kept slipping off her nose so that it was below her nostrils, causing her to breathe on us and all the food. She also kept touching her mask and her hair. It was gross. I noticed that a customer got up to leave and inadvertently dropped and didn't notice a used tissue fell out of his pocket and fell on the floor. A few minutes later I saw our waitress pick up the tissue off the floor, throw it away, and then immediately retrieve more soups and food from the pickup window, never stopping for a second to wash her hands. It was truly disgusting, unsanitary, and at this time of a global pandemic, it put everyone at great risk. If you want amazing Vietnamese food, go to Pho Far East. Their pho is the best I have ever had, with deep taste and flavors, the vegetables are fresh, unique, and delicious. And no one touches their noses, their masks, their hair, and used kleenex dropped on the floor. My family and I can't go back to Pho Happiness. It should be called Pho Bland, or Pho Tasteless, or Pho Germs, or Pho Dangerous! The Health Department should send an inspector to just see what goes on here. read more

Came in for a quick Thursday lunch and had an absolutely amazing experience. Service was quick, my food came out hot, and I was able to pay and get out quickly. Perfect for a workday lunch. I ordered the pho hanoi and, hands down, it's the best pho I've had in the triangle. The broth was seasoned perfectly and didn't taste watered down or flat like a lot of pho can tend to do. There were plenty of noodles and a surprisingly large amount of meat that came with it. To top it all off this massive bowl of soup was only $9.50. My husband Dan was jonesing for some Pho. Our good friend Hung makes some of the best Pho so we were skeptical. Without a doubt James and his mates at Pho Happiness made some awesome Pho. Not not good. We ordered 2 Banh mi and some dumplings. The dumplings were cold and soggy, but the banh mi was terrible. Cold. And the flavors were so terribly meh. I'm not even sure what all was off, but this was bad enough for me that I won't go back again ever. read more

Gotta knock my review down a few pegs. I eat here weekly and the banh mi has degraded a bit in quality. The pork is very fatty and, well, just not very meaty. Dumplings continue to be good. Food was great. Have no complaints towards that at all. However, this place doesn't isnt as happy as the name makes it seem. Service wasn't the greatest, but it seemed like the server was doing the best he could to his extent. What made things super awkward and uncomfortable is hearing the owner yelling at the cooks in the kitchen and clearing screaming. Not just once but multiple times during our time there. Don't think ill be coming back to support this business. Don't think it's right to be yelling at your employees in front of customers. If there is an issue, take it outside. read more

Hmmm--conflicted because I appreciate the effort to bring more vietnamese food to Chapel Hill but the pho was just ok for me. I had the pho dac biet but found the meat portions to be a little cheap. Not saying I need two pounds of meat but I felt like I was just eating endless noodles and broth. The banh mi was good but a bit overpriced, probably because of lower demand. Went last night at around 8:30 and was greeted by a friendly waiter and was seated immediately. Our drinks and menus were brought out quickly as well. We ordered two tofu banh mi's and a summer roll. All of our food was brought out in 5 minutes. The food was fantastic!! We're used to New York banh mi's and haven't been able to find a local place in chapel hill that's as good but this sure was. The peanut dipping sauce with the summer rolls was fantastic as well. I was very grateful to see that every category of dish had a vegetarian option! We will definitely be back to try all of them. Service was very fast and friendly. This place has been open for maybe a week so clearly they need to work out some kinks but they still made sure the customer was treated first. I walked into this establishment and was ignored for 5 minutes as they not only greeted, sat but also took orders for other customers who came after me. I can't help but think this was racially motivated as I was the only African American male in the restaurant. I confronted the hostess and she insisted it was her day- which I found out was false and don't believe is an excuse to be racist. I will never return and hope others are aware of their prejudice. In addition to the bad customer service, the pho was subpar & lacked flavor even with several packets of Sriracha Sauce - and jalapeños. I ordered a bowl of the house pho on grub hub and it was delicious and came to my house in less than 20 minutes! Also, the boba tea I ordered was so delicious. Everything about this place is so good and the pho was awesome, I loved how they added all the herbs to the side. Will definitely be ordering again! read more

I haven't been here for over a year since the Pandemic, when they first open up I was excited about it especially growing up with pho since birth. The pho I had today wasn't that great the broth tasted different and they added bean sprouts to my bowl and I dislike bean sprouts. I love pho. But what I love more than good pho, is pho that travels well. Nothing makes me happier than picking up pho on my way home, crawling into bed to watch a movie and enjoying a steaming bowl of noodles and broth. The house pho from Pho Happiness did not disappoint! The meat (beef) was raw, wrapped in plastic and on the side with the other veggies/herbs. The broth was in a traditional tall plastic container, also wrapped in a bag to prevent spills (thank you!!!!!) and the veggies were all in a large styrofoam bowl that was large enough to eat out of! In all my pho eating, I've never gotten carryout that could be eaten out of what they give you. I was very pleased! The beef was fresh and delicious. Broth was perfect. Everything else was very fresh. Ordering online was very confusing because once you chose your pho dish, it asked what flavor you wanted, and their options were cilantro-bean sprout- basil- etc. but you couldn't choose all of them. It was also $11.50 to order online and $9.50 when I just called it in. I called in my order, got the house pho and there was no question of what flavor and I did indeed get all of the normal toppings. I will definitely be back if I'm in chapel hill again! read more

Loved this place!! Walked in on a whim, the staff was so so kind, great service. We started with the best crab rangoons any of us (4 in our party) has ever tried, moved on to gyoza that I rapidly devoured, then tried the crispy ramen with chicken and veggies. All fresh and delicious. Also got the bubble tea! I got strawberry with mango boba- it was delicious sweet tea, without being overly sweet or syrupy. Highly recommend, will be back! read more

We have only carried out from here. However, the employees are always very nice. Pick up is quick. And everything is packed pretty nicely for transport. We live about 15 mins away and my husband's beef broth has still been hot enough to cook the beef when we get home. My daughter and I really love both the Chicken and Chicken Curry Pho. We got here around 8:40pm and ordered fairly quickly and while there were only two groups of customers besides us, we did not get our food till 9:05pm. The other two groups of customers were already finishing up their meal when we got there so we expected it to be a rather quick meal since we were the only customers who placed an order in that time period. It took twenty five minutes for them to make two bowls of pho and one order of egg rolls when we were their only order! When we were there, the boss or the man who seemed to be in charge was sitting down and eating dinner with other staff. There seemed to be no one in the kitchen except the busboy and it wasn't until after they finished eating (around 8:55pm) that there was commotion in the kitchen and I feel like that's when our food was being made. They didn't prioritize us and we were the only customers waiting on food! However, once the pho and egg rolls were here, the food was good. The broth was very clean and the meats tasted good. I waited till my second time to write a review about this place. The first time we went, it was incredibly bad service. We were the only customers waiting on food and we had to wait 45 minutes for our orders - the appetizers did not even come out first. My friend wrote more about that experience somewhere below if anyone wants to read it. This time, the service was much better. The food came out fast and it was such an improvement since the first time. If the review was solely based on service, I'd give them a 4.5. I deducted 0.5 because once again, we were the only customers and at one point, the manager and the two waitresses left us in the front by ourselves for about 5 minutes when we were close to wanting the check and we heard them all just giggling in the back. The manager did say loudly that he was going to check up on us and I really appreciated when he did because he was an incredibly nice man, who asked questions and made me feel welcomed. However, this restaurant is inconsistent. There were three items we ordered both times. 1) Eggrolls - The eggrolls themselves are DELICIOUS! However, the first time they gave us this fish sauce with pickled radish inside as our dipping sauce and this time it was a sweet Thai chili sauce. While this isn't a big deal, I don't get why they were inconsistent and served the dish with different sauces each time 2) Pho Saigon - The first time, the broth was so clean. We barely saw any oil on top but this time it was extremely oily and not clean. I appreciated the clean broth so much. The first time, we had so much meat in our broth (about 6 pieces) and I asked for my steak separately because I like it very rare and the first time, I was given a plateful with about 10 slices and this time it was only 3-4 slices. Furthermore, my broth only had TWO small pieces of meat. Both times, we did not ask for extra meat and it was the same price. It was just very disappointing this time. 3) House of Pho - I had the same problem with the steak on the side. First time, we had about 10 pieces but this time we were given 3-4 slices. The broth was very oily. Compared to the first time, we ordered two additional things because we brought a friend and she ordered the Curry Pho, which was delicious but it only had two pieces of tofu in it! Another thing we ordered was the Fish Sauce Chicken Wings. Forget about it. There couldn't have been any fish sauce in that. It tasted like regular fried wings and it was plated with so much oil...it was rather unappetizing as we approached the bottom. During our time there, they refilled the sauces at each table and left them uncapped for very long. It seemed rather unsanitary. Overall, I'm really glad they improved their services. It was a much better experience. The two girl waitresses working could have been more professional. They were just giggling the whole time and I get we were the only customers but it just didn't seem like they were workers compared to other employees on Franklin St. The pho and egg rolls are still extremely delicious but they are so inconsistent with amount of meat given and the egg roll sauce. read more

Everyone on staff at Pho Happiness was really pleasant and helpful, but it didn't save the food. We had the chicken pho. The broth was just okay - too salty, not much depth. I could have given that a pass, but the chicken was dry and very chewy. By the end of the meal, my partner (who got the same dish) said his jaw hurt. There's a grossness factor to rawhide like meat. We didn't have anything else on the menu, so I can't vouch for other items, but my feeling is that if Pho is in your name, it needs to be better than passable. Although Lime and Basil isn't great, it's better. I will say, this place is still better than Queen of Pho - but that's a very low bar. If you're banking on a solid Pho, I'd drive further afield. read more

This place is definitely one of the better pho restaurants in RTP. The interior itself is clean, well-designed, and cozy. Though their summer rolls were nothing special - their pho was definitely their golden child. I always judge pho by its broth, and this place went beyond my expectations. The broth (for the Special Pho) tasted great and was not oily despite the meat inside. The noodles were cooked well and tasted great. Their garnishes complemented the soup perfectly. And finally, their service was fantastic - I was never short on anything from water to hospitality. Definitely coming back soon. read more

First time and ordered delivery-was about 15 min late but that's ok as I planned on heating up later. Tried the pho-sooooo good! I added a small Amount of fish sauce but otherwise was great. I typically make my own so for the ease and the $ this is great. Meat comes separately raw-you cook in the broth-veggies separate and still crisp. Two good size shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce! Also u get a disposable bow with the noodles onion etc so all u need to do is add broth and top with herbs! Was not expecting such a positive experience on takeout. Will def be a new customer and anxious to try some different plates. read more

My whole family loves Pho Happiness! There is something for everyone. They have great vegetarian options. We have probably been a dozen times since they have opened. So far our favorites are the summer rolls (shrimp and veg options), rocket shrimp, pan fried vegetables, seafood pan fried vegetables, and the pho, of course - beef and vegetarian varieties. The curry pho was great, too! The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is comfortable for couples, larger groups, and families with young children. Probably the best pho place in the chapel hill area that I've been to. Great dining atmosphere, excellent service, and most importantly delicious food! Ordered a pho Saigon and a rocket shrimp side, both of which tasted phenomenal. The flavors and tastes reminded me so much of my Vietnamese grandmothers home made pho.
