So upon arrival at Pho Hoa Grill I noticed this was exactly what I was looking for3 a small restaurant located in a retrofitted garage to accommodate this authentic Vietnamese dining experience. I anxiously scanned the menu looking for something that caught my eye. Problem was it all looked good. I asked the cashier for a recommendation and she said the Vermicelli Salad Noodle Bowl. I ordered and added my toppings grilled Pork patties, shrimp and sliced grilled beef. I ordered it and within the minutes the owner brought me out a huge bowl of goodness. Vegetables, meat and rice noodles covered in crunchy bits of peanut, roasted scallions and a nice sauce or dressing to smother the works. I give this place 5 stars. This place is in a little shack with not much parking, but don't let that fool you. It's a pleasant surprise to find a very decent Pho place in Bangor. Having had pho all over the world, I can say the beef pho I and my friends had was solid. Their drunken noodle dish was excellent as well. Loved the chewy texture of the wide noodles and the tangy sauce pairing. It's a tiny little restaurant, mainly takeout, but we were able to call ahead and arrange seating for 5 people. The staff were very friendly and the owner even gave us a dessert on the house as it was my friend's birthday! They definitely deserve some love from the locals. read more

Long wait for food but totally worth it. Had the lunch special with soup, appetizer of the day and the Pad Thai. Tons of food, super tasty.

I am blown away, what a wonderful and flavorful lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed everything in the sampler and the Pho soup was "phonomenal" (sorry couldn't resist). Seriously the soup was everything I wanted in a soup on a cold day, it was hot, flavorful and filling. I wanted to treat myself after a long week at work. I've been past Pho Hoa Grill before and always wanted to stop in. It's a little divey with limited seating inside and a few picnic tables outside. What they lack in seating, they make up for in flavor. With it being my first time, I went with the classic thin beef regular pho. It came nicely packaged for my trip home. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the sign for a new Pho restaurant nestled in the middle of a mainly residential neighborhood. It had all the right smells wafting out the door, it had that hole in the wall look that you want in a noodle place, and it appeared to be well organized inside and sparkling clean. I thought there was room to eat there, but there's just a couple of picnic benches outside and a very tight counter with a few stools. This is mainly a takeout place. Nonetheless we sat on the bench outside and were served after about 25 mins (they were busy) take-out style, with everything separated. All the components were there from the Thai basil, sprouts, hoisen, and lime wedge. Perhaps a little light on meat for the size of the bowl, but a generous serving for $10. A little off the beaten path but worth the trek. Definitely the kind of place you'd find in a larger city so I was pleasantly surprised to find this place on Yelp. My new go-to dish is the vermicelli salad which is a light, fresh dish that is basically a deconstructed spring roll. The dressing portion is a little on the small side so I now order extra side of it which does the trick. The restaurant has a cute outdoor area for eating during the warmer months. Portions are huge and staff are very friendly. Give this place a try and you will not be disappointed! read more

Love this place. We recently moved up from Boston and the food here is better than any of the Thai places we used to frequent back in the city. The standards like Pad Thai and Pho are high quality and really fresh, and the Steak Salad is especially flavorful. Came to visit from New York and found this gem. You'd never expect to have such big flavors come from an adorable little restaurant on top of a hill. Minimum seating but they do deliver. Ordered a meat combo pho, shrimp summer rolls, vermicelli noodle salad, drunken noodles and shrimp and pineapple fried rice. Possibly THE worst restaurant experience of all time. My spouse and I were required to pre pay for our dine-in order, which should have been a red flag. Our meals didn't resemble what was described on the menu. Both are plates were missing essential ingredients, and my meal contained rotten tomatoes and moldy carrots, while my husband's plate was roughly 75% onions. It would appear this establishment has changed owners and the new proprietors have no experience in the kitchen or with customer service. I highly recommend this awesome Pho place in Maine. Our group is from California and we always crave Asian food. We've tried many Vietnamese restaurants in SD, LA, and the Bay Area, but most of them have an msg/salty aftertaste. However, at Pho-Hoa-Grill, the soup flavor is a little bit sweeter than what I had before. Our Vietnamese friend mentioned that in Vietnam, due to the abundance of Pho restaurants, cooks usually add their own spin to the soup flavor. You can tell this place offers authentic, home-made Pho with fresh ingredients. I ordered stewed flank beef, large portion; it was super delicious and we loved it. This place is a joke. Either the people of Maine have low standards or we were not treated right the day we came in to this place. First of, the cook/dishwasher was dumping the bucket of dirty water right in front of the restaurant. Next, drinking water was served out of a coffee mug, in which the water looked murky. The mug had lipstick marks and the handle had green marks as if it was never washed. How could this place even get a license? We thought maybe well, the food must be great if patrons overlooked these little things. But no, my stir fry spicy ginger with tofu was almost all onions and very little tofu. The cook should call it onion stir fry. I have to say though, the steamed white rice was good. My husband ordered a rice plate that came with carrots, tomatoes, rice, and meat. The carrots were baby carrots right out of a bag from the grocery store, which were molded. The tomatoes were rotten with the moldy seeds still intact. Gross! To add insult, this restaurant is pricey. You're better off going to the grocery store deli or get something from the frozen isle than spending your money in this joint. If you decide to try this joint and eating-in, don't pay first! read more
