We really enjoyed ourselves and our meals during our visits to this iconic Asian restaurant (Stephen King #iykyk). Our first visit was for a Stephen King fan club event a few years ago. We had a private party room and the food was buffet-style and it was fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. Another time went for lunch with friends and had the same great experience. Our entrees were so good. The food they put it out is comfort food. Hands down, good old-fashioned Asian comfort food. The service is really good as well. We were greeted and seated immediately upon walking in, which was a great start. We chose this spot because of its connection to Stephen King...but we'd come back just for the food! The pork dumplings were incredible! I could've easily eaten 20 of them. The honey orange chicken was delicious, and the pork fried rice came with generous chunks of pork that made it feel extra hearty. The Yelp description mentions an '80s vibe, but I didn't really get that. The interior felt modern, clean, and welcoming. Even the water tasted fresh and delicious. Talk about a novel review. I heard that this place changed hands, and frankly, it is a palace of deliciousness. The dumplings were made with care and were smaller than a normal dumpling, but the pork filling was exquisite. The dumpling was fried crisp and the pork was so juicy. The egg roll was lightly 5 spiced and large. Texture was good and it was flavorful. I had tofu and it was crisp, with a little heat and surrounded by crunchy veggies. The pineapple was welcome. The kicker was the server. She had been there 17 years, talked up the food like she was proud of it, and made several suggestions. That made the experience golden. read more

I ordered the 48 hour tonkotsu pork broth based Ramon bowl and it was so bad the liquid was actually frothing and had the strongest fish taste I've ever experienced before. Nasty that i lost appetite. It was not any 48 hour broth that they used to make where it would collegenize or congeal when cooled, but now it stays a liquid? Bs fake broth now folks. If anyone has made a bone broth knows that it has so much collegine in it that it literally becomes a solid when you put it in the frig. This used to do that about 3 to four years ago when the soup bowl was 12.50 but now it's a joke 17.50 fishy tasting garbage bowl. Up the price significantly reduce the quality and you will never know I can tell that people ARE actually taking the information seriously because the restaurant is dead on a Friday night at 6pm you'll find maybe 4 families in here. read more

Haven't been here in years so we thought we'd give it a try. It was much cleaner than I remembered and the service was adequate which is a plus The food overall was oK but nothing to write home about. The egg rolls were greasy and the teriyaki steak was not edible. We ordered the lo mein noodles to go with our lunch and the portion was extremely small and lacking vegetables. I miss the buffet. Do you make your egg rolls in house or are they purchased through a vender? I have eaten at the type places all over the country and have never run into egg rolls like yours. Best in the country imo. You upscale changes are a blessing and a curse. I see the need to elevate your business but I have been eating poo poo platters there since I was a kid something like 40 years or so now. I have yet to try your ramen bowl so that is the next test. Good Chinese Food in Bangor Maine. My wife and I were in Maine for one night, and after many days of New England classic seafood, we wanted one night of comfort food...which for us involves something with white rice. This restaurant popped up and was very close to our hotel: barely 0.2 miles away as the crow flies (a term I understand better traveling around Maine)...but almost 2.5 miles by car since we were on the opposite side of I-95. So we took the car, and drove all the way through the Bangor Mall. It's a large mall with mostly empty buildings, giving a clear indication of how malls built when I was growing up, are now dying in the US. There is plenty of parking, and the building itself is large and self-contained. There was no wait, and we were seated (the only ones) in a private banquet room (the 'Bonsai' room), off to the side of the main entrance. Elijah was our server, and immediately offered us some complementary fried wonton skins. While munching through them, we perused the medium sized menu. We settled on Orange Chicken ($17.50) and Four Happiness ($25), both coming with a small bowl of white, steamed rice. We just wanted still ice water, which he kept filled throughout the visit. The orange chicken included pineapple: the dish actually reminded me of the Chinese Korean dish sweet/sour pork (Tangsuyuk) a lot more than orange (or sesame chicken)...the dark meat chicken could have easily passed as pork. As this dish tends to do, it uses a heavy batter, really well cooked so it is dried out a bit, requiring a lot of that sweet, cloying sauce. It tasted very good, and the portions were right...but it wouldn't be orange chicken the way someone who is used to Panda Express (who invented it, supposedly) would like it. The four happiness was described as what we like at most chinese restaurant (often called something like 'Happy Family'), combining 3 to 4 meats with the house brown sauce and a lot of fresh vegetables. Shrimp, beef, and chicken were expected but they also added chinese barbeque pork. The flavor of the pork was too strong for this dish, using thinly sliced pork loin would have been a lot better. The shrimp was medium size (it should be large...shrimp is actually cheaper today than it was 30 years ago and even the most frugal places are using jumbo shrimp to make their dishes jump/pop). The beef was the overly tender, food grade that a lot of chinese restaurants use. The house brown sauce was very mild, not having enough spices and didn't have too much cooking sherry or oyster sauce to make their brown, garlic sauce memorable. It had a good mix of vegetables like brocolli and button mushrooms. The food came out FAST, and the portions were very generous...but the dishes are expensive. We did finish both dishes though, realizing how hungry we are. The whole vibe is outdated and from the 80's: used of term Oriental, very americanized tastes, large dining spaces, location is in a dying mall...a place that my generation and older would appreciate. Since it was not busy, we got a chance to talk with Elijah (who was excellent as a server throughout). He explained that the room we were in, had been a favorite reserved room for Bangor's most famous resident and his family, though he no longer came anymore. Elijah also explained the relationship between the Bangor Beer Company and the restaurant (owned by the owner's son). The satelite location of the brewpub shares the same kitchen, so you can get certain chinese dishes while drinking your microbrew. It is interesting...much of this place was tied to a particular place and time, in this case the location of a medium sized city with a predominantly WASP population, and a time of late 20th century: the use of the outdated term 'Oriental' (a term which is now illegal to use in any Federal documentation...but still very relevant in terms like Oriental Medicine); or the inclusion of Sushi as a main menu item (and using the term 'Bonsai') in a chinese restaurant (which would be a big no-no where we live..mixing Chinese and Japanese like that); the lack of anything Korean food/culture...which really caught fire recently in the 21st century; or the prices (which are quite higher than what I am used to, which means there isn't much competition). But at the same time, the popularity of a micro brewery brewpub in the same premises is so early 21st century, and the restaurant being an inspiration to certain scenes from a very famous story...makes this a place that we were really glad we came to. read more

We waited for quite a while to be seated. We figured it was just really busy. I was surprised to see only 2 other tables occupied when we were shown to our table. What took so long? I ordered the steak. It was so tender you didn't even need a knife to cut it. The sauce was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. This is a restaurant I have been going to my entire life and I have rarely had a bad meal. I absolutely used to love going to the buffet and it allowed me to try a wide variety of the menu items. Food is overall tasty and fresh, and they provide good portions! On the downside, prices have steadily risen over the years, which has made it more difficult to come here more than occasionally. Onions ae not a veggie to me, a few carrots and bean sprouts, but it filled me up. He had the wonton soup wih only two wontons. The pork fried rice had very little flavor. They have the BEST fried rice I've ever had and we love all their other ample-sized dishes! Plus, they offer local, craft beer, great mixed drinks, excellent service and reasonable prices! They've changed their duck sauce I'd say!! I like that and it always tasted like apple sauce kinda, sweet taste and good. But last two times I've ordered from the Jade the duck sauce is spicy tasting and not good! Someone either changed the recipe or a new person didn't make it correctly. 8/15/19 - What a great place to go with a large party. We had the pleasure of having Allyson as our server. She was very pleasant and attentive. We have come her before for either sushi or buffet. Today was the first time we ordered from the rest of the menu. Boy were we surprised by the portions. The sesame chicken and General Tso's chicken are definitely share size. As always we started with the amazing Famous Bang Bang Cauliflower. Finally having a beer menu full of micro brewer Bangor Beer Company was a perfect complemen. 8/23/19 - ordered a platter of the Bang Bang cauliflower to take to a pot luck. Once attendees had a sample the platter was quickly emptied. It was a hit. Also bought a growler of Walty for home since they didn't have any in cans. I also ordered spare ribs and beef teriyaki, both of which were superb. The meat was tender, loaded with sauce and had very little fat. Absolutely do not go here. We've been ordering from here for two years. Prices have continued to jump huge amounts every couple of months (somehow beef lo mein has gone up $8 from the first time we ordered...no supply chain issue has caused that much of a jump for a single dish). The food seemed good enough so we put up with it until tonight. A visitor has a sesame seed allergy, so I called to ask them to leave that off of an online order (no way to make the note online). I was told they couldn't accommodate that as all the orders are cooked in mass in advance. They then suggested that the person just pick out all of the sesame seeds??? As if that's how allergies work or would even be possible. Now I get to "watch my bank statement", as the manager said, to be able to verify they ever cancel the order. For the price, everything should be cooked to order every single time. This is insane. read more

I was stuck working in Bangor on my birthday. A friend came up to surprise me and asked that I meet her there. I got a General Tso Chicken and she got the General Tso Tofu. Meh. It's not great in really any regard other than the lobster carcass. That thing is great. The service was awkward. The food was poor. The way they handled the holiday crowd was sloppy and chaotic. It took over two and a half hours from arrival to getting the last check and leaving. The food was just ok. Certainly not the worst food I've had. Very certainly not the best. The menu is oddly limited. Many of our orders had some sort of error, either from the kitchen or from the waiter. We were a big party, and probably should have had more than one server assigned to us. We waited more than a half hour for checks. There are so many better places nearby. During the middle of a power outage there is nothing greater than the experience of having a wonderful meal at a new restaurant. From the moment we walked in the door we were impressed, especially by the delicious food. From the start the waiter we had, Christian, was very attentive, and was diligent in making sure the chefs knew about our allergies (always a good sign). He was excellent at making sure neither of us had empty drink glasses, and that we had everything we needed. The menu had a nice variety on it, I got the soup dumplings to start, and the duck noodle bowl for my entree. The soup dumplings were amazing, they were bite size dumplings that exploded with flavor when you bit down. I was barely able to save one for a picture with my entree. The noodle bowl was excellent as well, and I would highly recommend both, but especially the soup dumplings. I visited Oriental Jade as part of a work dinner. We had a fairly large group of 13 people. The waitress was an absolute sweetheart, that is the reason for the 2 stars. I ordered Bang Bang Cauliflower and Spicy Salt and Pepper Calamari for my meal. The cauliflower was very good but it came out cold. I did enjoy the sauce on it but it was soggy. The calamari was about room temperature. There was nothing spicy about it and the only taste I could point out is just fried food. It laid on a bunch of wilted shredded lettuce which could be done without. This visit was quite disappointing, I would not order the calamari again, but would order the cauliflower. I ordered a 911 fire roll and a spicy salmon roll to go for later. The sushi did not taste fresh and was happy my work purchased our food for us. I would not go here again for sushi, stick to Ichiban or Yoshi. I had one Zombie drink - overly sugary and for a drink that is limit 2 per person you'd expect some alcohol in it.
