Went there on a Friday night and got a place right away. It is a small restaurant and they only take cash or debit. We were seated right away and their service was pretty good. The food came quickly and the staff were attentive. For food, we got their spring rolls with vermicelli to start which was good. For mains, I got their yellow curry with chicken. The chicken was very bland and lacked flavour, the yellow curry also did not have much flavour and it was too thin. I was not able to finish my meal. My friend got their tofu with mushroom sauce and rice, she said that it was average and that the tofu was dry. We weren't in the mood to get pho, but I would give it a shot next time. read more

I visited Pho Hong back in April with a friend while looking for something quick and comforting nearby. We ended up here more out of convenience than craving and for that purpose, it was fine. I ordered the house special pho. It came out hot and generously portioned, with all the usual trimmings: fresh bean sprouts, jalapeño, mint, and lemon. The broth was mild, the meats were decent, and it definitely filled me up. Nothing particularly memorable, but it got the job done. Our total came to around $34 before tip, which felt fair. The vibe is no-frills: casual service, simple decor, and I believe it was cash or debit only at the time. Quick enough and friendly enough, but not a place I'd go out of my way for. You can easily pass this place if you are driving because it appears small from the outside sandwiched between stores and the name doesn't stand out. Don't be deceived! The inside is pretty with tables spread to give space and privacy. They do dine in and take-out. You know the place is great when you have a steady stream of customers filtering in. They served the traditional Vietnamese food such as spring rolls to pho noodles or rice bowls. They also have specialty items and combos. The price is cheap but the flavour is big. I've been here about 5-6 times now, and at this point, I'd say their vegan pho sate ($17.49) is amongst the very best in all of Greater Van. Food was reasonable priced and it tasted like standard Vietnamese food. The dish that I ordered was: Combo C with pork and chicken skewers as well as a shrimp skewer. I liked how the meat was not too burnt and was quite tender. It was served with a side of veggies and choice of vermicelli or rice. The only problem that I had with the meal tonight was that I had some sort of allergic reaction which really isnt their fault. I requested no peanuts and they were able to accommodate and having prompt instagram replies, I found out that they do not use peanut oil so there must be something else that I am allergic to that I dont know of (as this has happened before at other restaurants). We went to this restaurant on a rainy Saturday afternoon, and it was surprisingly busy, which to us was a good sign We had Pho (#1 and #10) with a spring roll each. We quite liked the slightly thicker noodles, a good chew, and the quality of the meats. The soup was good but not a standout. The service was efficient and minimalist. I found out about this place on Uber Eat and tried it out. I order Buddha feast (vegan spring roll), bun thit nuong cha gio (lemongrass pork grill with noodle and spring rolls) and a classic pho (pho tai). All dishes are really good. The buddha feast is amazing and really big (left on my photo) and it goes with peanut sauce, yum! The portion is big and two of us can't even finish them all! I wanted Vietnamese but the place we wanted to go to was randomly closed. We decided to try a spot we haven't been to yet and settled on Pho Hong Restaurant. They specialize in beef noodle soup. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 1:00pm). The inside is huge and has the most random, unexpected decor. Christmas lights with flowers adorn the ceiling. Food comes out fast but service is woeful. They never came back to refill our teas. The menu is split into beef noodle soup, specialities and beverages. The two combos seem to be most popular items; the noodle soup combo and the vermicelli/rice BBQ meat combos (A to D). - Herbs - bowls came with lemon, spicy jalapeño peppers, bean sprouts and basil. Typical stuff. - Pho dac biet (#1) ($10.00 large) - we comboed this to try a spring roll ($1.50 extra). Spring roll was crispy but filling was average. Skip it. The beef broth was fantastic; great depth, complexity and some sweetness came through. For meat, there was tendon, tripe, beef balls, thin sliced beef and cooked beef. Everything was good except the cooked beef slices were a tad dry. - Bun bo hue (#14) ($10.00) - cooked beef, Vietnamese ham and chicken balls. Again, the cooked beef slices were a tad dry but the chicken balls (never seen these before) were delicious. Broth was tasty with a good initial kick but salty. Back and open for dine-in customers (As of July 1st)!! Pho Hong has re-opened for dine-in service and I couldn't have been more excited to go back for their amazing pho. They have taken extra precautions by installing dividers between each table, and the entire staff is wearing face shields for better safety and hygiene! While their take-out promo is gone, I still really enjoy their combos because of its great value. The spring roll is filled with plenty of pork and veggies, and deep-fried to perfection. This one of my favourite places to go eat beef noodles. Their soup base is super flavourful and they give more noodles than other places. I usually order the number 1 small (their special with everything in it). I did try curry there and their seafood noodles and it tasted like their food was frozen. I assume they serve only beef all the time that they didn't bother with fine tuning their other food. Their lemongrass chicken is also pretty good but I've had better ones in Vancouver. I have been coming here for a few years mostly ordering to-go and despite the owner seemingly quite unfriendly, it didn't bother me UNTIL today. I clearly ordered beef stew noodles and spring rolls, only to find out at home that they gave me seafood. So I went back only for the owner to be adamant and said that's what I ordered. I have been coming here for so long so I am quite disappointed by his attitude. One - I repeated my order 2x before I paid and a 3rd time before they packed it. Two - He was practically calling me a liar because he said that's what I ordered. Three - He said it was my fault because I did not open the 3 layered packaging that they did before I left the resto. Sure maybe it was my fault, I did not check it. Apparently I have to doubt them despite confirming 3x and must unravel all the packaging for 6 containers before I left. It must be hard to deal with returned food but it was untouched and clearly - the root of my frustration - wasn't what I ordered! Frankly , I love this place. Family owned and run "Lower Eastside " eatery has a homey feel to it. It's the best Pho in the hood. The large Pho is a can't miss. I usually have No 4 or No 5. Cold night and actually wanted to go to Deer Garden. They were too busy so we decided to try this place instead. What a great choice this was! Restaurant was clean, bright and we were immediately seated. We ordered a pho combo not on the menu and owner asked us if we ever visited. We said no and they said were there for over 17 years while encouraging us to get a combo with the spring roll... Another great choice. Soup came out fast... Hot and flavourful. Spring rolls. I am on a hunt for convenient and tasty pho near my home. I decided to try this place since it has four stars on yelp (I have been to Au Petite Cafe on Main St and I use their pho as a benchmark for what I consider to be great tasting pho). I ordered their daily special - Any small noodle soup + 1 spring roll $9.50 - (Initially I was just going to order only the noodle soup but the waitress persuaded me to try the spring roll too so I did) The small was decent in portion size for me, not too much, not too little (I don't like stuffing myself). Good amount of noodles; there could've been a bit more beef but that's ok. For the noodle soup, i picked #5 on the menu which has semi cooked beef flank and some other beef which i forgot. The soup was nice and hot which cooked the semi raw beef. I could smell and taste the fresh cilantro in the soup. The soup was however a bit on the salty side as i think another yelper mentioned. The soup needs more of the beef flavour. The spring roll was tasty but also average. It tastes and looks like the frozen packaged ones you can get at Costco. Overall the restaurant is fairly clean so no complaints there. Staff are friendly and service was good (but it also wasn't too busy since i came later in the afternoon). The value is good but I still think Au petite cafe, with its similar price point, to be a better place to go for pho. I give this restaurant 3 stars based on the quality of the pho soup. read more

The sliced beef in the pho did not seem the freshest, and the broth was also greasy. The cup that my tea came in had a sourish odor to it, kind of like a mildewy cloth was used to dry it. I was surprised at the price of spring rolls and salad rolls... Are they that pricey all over the city? (I'm from Courtenay and an order of 3 springrolls is $4 compared to the 7.50 here.) When we walked in, it looked like Italian restaurant rather than traditional pho place. My friend had their regular pho and didn't seem to have any complaints. I have to say something about their interesting decor.
