I had the Flying V Harvest - a vegan miso broth with Impossible™ meat, bean sprouts, broccolini, green onion, corn, red onion, crispy garlic, and chili seasoning, served with thick noodles. Absolutely delicious! My son had the Spicy Chicken Ramen - chicken broth with chicken chashu, spinach, spicy bean sprouts, and fresh green onion, served with thin noodles. He went for HOT spice level, and it was perfectly fiery and freshly made! Our servers, Albert and Mao, were exceptional. With a stormy weather and atmospheric storm happening tonight felt like a perfect night for soup. This is a nice location and has a modern but bright feel to it. The chef special Tokyo Ramen soup bowl is very yummy. Coupled with a beer and an appetizer you have a perfect midweek dinner. The service was good and super polite. I picked the JINYA recommended items: Brussels Sprouts Tempura: crispy tempura Brussels sprouts with white truffle oil. The Brussels sprouts were tender. I guess it's mean to be eaten on its own, for the truffle flavour. Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen: vegan vegetable broth, tofu, onion, green onion, spinach, crispy onion, garlic chips, garlic oil, chili oil and sesame seeds. Served with thick noodles. Once the ingredients mixed, the chili oil is mild. The thick noodles are pleasant to eat. But too much onions, it leaves a strong aftertaste. :P read more

Upscale ramen place in the Amazing Brentwood complex. This restaurant is actually located at the SE corner of the mall complex. The building is attached to the mall, but can only be accessed from the exterior. Parking is available in the NW side of the mall (free), as well as the paid spots on the S side. The place is nice and large and modern. High ceilings are always nice. Plenty of dark wood trim. Staff are friendly and chatty. No complaints. Tonkotsu black - guessing this is their signature dish. 2 slices of pork, and other goodies in a nice thick (fatty) broth. Definitely my favourite of the 2. Spicy chicken ramen - chicken isn't breaded. Just 2 somewhat thin slices. Served with a dab of hot sauce, in spicy soup. To be honest, this dish is rather mediocre. I'd skip this one. For both bowls, noodle quality is good. Nice and bouncy. Besides the mediocre chicken dish, my other complaint is that the portions are on the small size. So glad I ordered 2 bowls. With that said, there is an option to add aditional toppings or extra noodles. Oh yeah, the pricing is rather high, but so is everything else in this mall after they made it all modern and pretty. Came with 2 friends to try out their 2nd Anniversary Event $10 Ramen! Located in the compounds of Brentwood Mall and can be accessed from the malls' exterior with it's own entrance. Place has a contemporary Japanese Ramen Bar decor with dark colours and plenty of Japanese art pieces on display. Our group decided to order 2 bowls each of the 3 options: Jinya Tonkotsu Black and Spicy Chicken Ramen. The winner of the two definitely was the Jinya Tonkotsu with two flavourful 2 slices of pork paired with thinner than usual ramen, ultra rich pork stock soup, and last but not least a perfectly cooked soft boiled runny egg. Spicy Chicken Ramen is pretty average consisting of just two pieces of sliced Chicken Breast paired with a bland spicy stock soup. I found the portion sizes are little bit on the lighter side hence the order of 2 bowls. Staff were friendly and efficient even with the increased amount of customers for the event. Awesome ramen in the heart of Brentwood in Burnaby. We stopped by for lunch at around 1 on Friday and they sat us promptly. I got the spicy chicken ramen with egg and broccoli and it really hit the spot. There is a good amount of noodles in the soup. It was very tasty. I don't know if each location follows a recipe but this one definitely doesn't taste like the one Downtown. I've had many bowls of Ramen and my criteria for a high review is always consistency. When the bowl tastes different from my last visit or a different location of the same company, then my review goes lower. Noodle texture was on the softer side, broth not as creamy, egg was good. Other toppings, standard. It's on the smaller side inside with hard to find parking but that's secondary. The service was good and the ambiance was good as well. Jinya Ramen just opened in Brentwood. My biggest complain here is the parking. They have other food options if you decided to not get ramen. I came here with a friend to grab take out. The take out item was well laid out when they gave it to us. I got the Tonkatsu Ramen. They had the soup and noodles separated. Prices are more expensive compared to other ramen places. Jinya ramen started in the USA. It is not a chain from Japan. I found the portion size a bit small compared to other ramen places. I also got an appetizer edamame and a ramune drink to go along with my meal and that was $30. If you do take out, they have instructions on how to assemble your meal. I feel like the taste of Ramen Jinya has gone down hill over the years. I used to love Ramen Jinya. Note that there is happy hour special. One thing interesting here is that they serve beer and not just Japanese beer. I don't recommend doing take out. Dine in is always a better choice for any soup noodles meal. read more

We dropped by Jinya Ramen at The Amazing Brentwood for lunch.   Jinya Tonkotsu Original Wonton Chicken Ramen Crispy Chicken Brussel Sprouts Tempura Caramelized Cauliflower  Brussel Sprouts Tempura was quite disappointing. It was supposed to be made with white truffle oil, but we couldn't taste any truffle flavor in it. We'd had this same dish at another location of Jinya Ramen years ago; back then the truffle flavor was very strong and we loved it. This time the truffle flavor was completely non existent. Our daughter wasn't too crazy about her Wonton Chicken. A standard Chinese version of Wonton would have probably worked better for her. This dish was very forgettable.  Everything else on the table was good. Their ramen soup and noodles is what they are known for, and they do that very well. I have to say that I was a little thrown off by the reviews on Yelp. I believe this can be a 5 star establishment with some refinements to the menu (saying that there is a spice scale or a bit more explanation about the variety of foods) but overall it exceeded my expectations. I loved the selection of food as it was not all "ramen". The appetizers were so delicious I almost want to go back just for them. The ramen is some good quality ramen and I know there is a big contingency to fight against in a mostly Asian community but I can truly say that it was able to hold it's own. The seating area was rather loud given that the area was small but I get it. I actually didn't mind the noise or the proximity we were to the next table. It was actually comforting more than annoying or bothersome. With some easy refinements, I believe this place can up it a notch to 5 stars. read more

Prices are fair, considering the cost of Ramen in Metro Vancouver. I came during their anniversary event, so it was incredibly busy. The staff were incredibly accommodating, and made the time to check in and refill my tea and water, despite how busy it was. So big kudos to them. Jinya wasn't easy to find. Google map doesn't locate this place correctly but it is right around the corner and behind from OEB. The restaurant is clean, cozy and the decor is modern. We ordered the tonkatsu black ramen and crispy chicken. - 5/5 Tonkatsu black ramen was very good. The broth was perfect and not too salty. I like the thin noodles and the cha siu was very tender. Don't let the small bowl of noodle fool you but it is very filling. -2/5 Crispy chicken was ok. The chicken was crispy but I didn't think the ponzu sauce was that good. Ponzu sauce tasted more like soy sauce. Kinda reminds me of Korean style fried chicken dipped in soy ponzu sauce. I wish they had chicken nanban on their menu instead. Service was excellent. The food arrived within a reasonable time. I thought the waiter was attentive. Our napkin fell in the ground and the waiter quickly brought us over some more napkins without asking. I'd love to give better review to this newly opened place but I just can't . Ordered for take out JINYA tonkotsu black ramen , edamame and impossible gyoza. Overall taste of the dishes 7/10. Ramen was the best choice but they missed to put an egg (or it's not included which is strange since in their menu there's a ramen egg in soup on the photo!) Gyoza didn't meet the expectation and it came without the sauce (I never had gyoza served without a dipping sauce!) Edamame was a solid choice but smaller portion compare to other restaurants. As we have been to the previous location at Metrotown we knew a bit about the menu. The ramen was a bit too chewy for my taste but perhaps good for others. Wandered into JINYA on a rainy Vancouver day seeking something hot and soupy to warm up. There was a large menu to select from (including happy hour items between 3-5 pm). Finally decided on their classic Tonkotsu black ramen along with their Brussels sprouts tempura. Had a little trouble catching the attention of the server even though it wasn't busy. Then they accidentally brought us the wrong dish, but overall all our food came quickly. The ramen broth was deliciously flavourful and garlicky, while the ramen was nicely firm and chewy. The batter on the brussel sprouts was just a touch thick, but you could taste the truffle oil! We were definitely all warmed up and cozy after the meal. Beautiful spot in the heart of Brentwood with free parking in a little lot right out front. It's certainly the most expensive ramen place in town. They have 3 vegan ramens as of now, so I tried the Tsunami White Pearl ($22.80 plus tax), which comes with Impossible Meat crumble, half an Impossible Meat patty, all sorts of veggies (spinach, broccolini, salad leaves, red onion and green onion), thick noodles, and a rich veggie broth. The ramen came in less than 10 minutes in a very substantial portion. So, is it worth the price? Sort of. You really have to love Impossible to like this ramen and one of the other two vegan ramens, as the flavour is heavily dependent on the crumble. I'm also not sure what I think about having a hamburger patty in my ramen. There's also a lot of garlic oil sitting on top that could be toned down. But all in all, it's really good. The broth was rich and complex, the noodles were cooked perfectly and nicely chewy, the broccolini was charred beautifully, and the flavours all come together. I was absolutely stuffed afterwards, which I should be for $28 after tax and standard tip. Very friendly, competent and efficient service. Above average vegan ramen for Greater Van, which is saying something given the many great spots nowadays, but ultimately not good value. If you don't care about the $, this is worth a shot. read more

To JINYA Management: Your Front of House need to get their sh*t together... POSITIVE points: We visited on Boxing Day at 2:00pm, they were packed. The host takes your name and phone number then a text message system will register you and let you know when your table is ready. You don't need to wait at the door. Love that system. The Tonkotsu black broth is still greasy and flavourful as I remember at their Kerrisdale location. But the pork slices have shrunk in size and so did the amount of noodles. The crispy chicken was flavourful throughout and have a super crispy crunch on the outside. Also great value for $25, you get 15 big pieces of chicken. Love it. The sauces they give you table side were well made, and adds a new flavour dimension to their food. After we placed our order, our food came quickly. NEGATIVE Points: Atmosphere - we were seated in the back of the restaurant in this enclosed nook where they managed to squeeze in one 2 person table and two 4 person tables. My closet at home is bigger than that space, and I was 6" away from the next table guest. Shortly after we sat down, one of the tables left. Their dishes sat there for the entire 55 minutes that we were at the restaurant, until finally at the end someone came and cleaned it up. Only because they had another party of guests coming to sit down. We sat and waited for around 10 minutes before our waitress came and gave us attention. We didn't have any water whatsoever. We waited 20 minutes after we finished our food and had to flag down our server for the bill. The chicken chashu bowl we ordered, came out cold. The rice was cold, the meat was cold, everything was cold. It was like they made a mistake with another table, took back the bowl, sat it on the counter and served it again when someone else ordered it. We commented how the chashu bowl was cold to our server at the end. After she heard us, she said something along the lines that we should have let them know earlier when the food was first served. I was a bit taken back by that comment and told her no one checked up on us. Right after we got our food, without skipping a beat, another server popped up behind us and asked how the food was, before we could dig in. So we told him we haven't had a chance to taste anything yet. Awkward silence ensued and they never came back. The waitress apologized, then said hold on a minute and ran off with our bill. We thought she was going to comp the chashu bowl as we only finished half of it, or at least give us a discount, or free dessert, but no, she just came back and said "What do you want me to do?" (regarding our cold chashu bowl). I'm not sure how the management there trains their staff or what policies they have, but definitely disappointing to say the least. The food being cold is not the customer's fault. The cherry on top is them asking us what we want them to do. I told her I'm not sure what she means, if she wants me to help myself feel satisfied dining at their restaurant. After that the server didn't say anything and just handed the credit card terminal to me. I've never experienced this kind of "service" dining out in Vancouver. It's just a bit loud but the food makes up for it! I'm afraid of ordering yuzu on my ramen but it was good!!! I ordered the yuzu shio pork ramen. Highly recommend it. Also try the California poke bowl! Hubby got it and I keep stealing spoonfuls of it :-). Pork Gyoza can improve as it was a bit salty, maybe the spicy sauce will balance it out. Love Ramen so had to try this place! We had to wait about 15 minutes on a Saturday night for 2 people, not bad at all! The ambience of the restaurant is cozy and nice, although it was a bit warm. They have a decent size menu, and if you don't feel like soup there are bowls as well and lots of great appetizers. We tried the Spicy tuna tacos and gyoza to start. The tacos are made with a wonton outer "taco" shaped shell with delicious spicy tuna inside. This was very tasty and tuna was fresh. They are tiny but as an appy, it was great. The gyozas are handmade there so I had to try it. There were 6 that came on the plate along with the typical gyoza dip. They were crispy on the outside and so good! The meat mixture inside was perfect, so tasty. We ordered a couple of bowls of Ramen for our mains. Hubby ordered a Tonkatsu black...spicy. you can choose your level of spice from 1 to 10. we can both handle a decent amount of spice but we went with 3 just to try it. As a ramen enjoyer, I've eaten at Jinya's Robson Street location before and am familiar with their offerings. Good ramen. Decent options. Finally decided to give the Brentwood location a try. Went for lunch on a weekday and there was no wait. We were seated immediately. Weird that there was no lunch rush but I wasn't complaining. Ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen and a regular tonkatsu ramen. Orders came promptly and both were tasty. Broth was good. Noodles were good. Pretty satisfied with what we ate. It's a ramen place so while the room was nice and the decor was clean and modern, that's not important if the food and service are bad. Thankfully, both were good. That said, this is probably the most expensive regular ramen place around. You're looking at at least $25 for a single diner after tips for just a bowl of ramen. I'm not going to penalize the place for needing to pay the (presumably very high) rent. But I can't see this location staying for too many years as the price point for eating ramen will mean fewer people will choose to dine there. The food is good. But it's not so much better than many many other ramen places that customers will think of them first when deciding to go for ramen. This would explain the sparsely filled restaurant during lunch rush. I'd still recommend the place. Just go in knowing you are paying more for what is similar to many many other places. Always greeted with a yell from the chef absolutely hustling away behind the counter, I immediately feel seen and heard. My worries wash away into the ocean, and I feel the warmth from a gorgeous bowl of Ramen flowing into my aura. Every slurp provides deep elation to my mind and soul. Just ok, but wouldn't go back again. We're a family of 6 (3 adults and 3 children aged 6 and under) and granted it was a Saturday at dinner time so the only seats available were at the back in a semi-private area. It was the most awkward, darkest area. We were hungry so we accepted it but requested the lights be brightened somehow or even another light fixture turned on. It was so dark that we had to turn on our cell phone lights to even read our menus. Orders came, and we were almost finished eating by the time the lights were finally brightened (I'd guess about 30 minutes after we initially asked). As for our ramen, plus rice bowls and salad to add on, they were not what we would have expected from an established ramen restaurant. Ramen was way too salty despite our request for less salt. Salads tasted like regular box salad from the grocery store. The rice bowls were probably the better dishes out of everything. For the price, the ramen is not worth it. We are accustomed to and prefer ramen from Santouka restaurants so maybe that was our expectation. Jinya did not compare at all and I know they probably have their own ways of flavouring, cooking etc. Service was just ok as well, I do feel the staff serving/waiting us were younger and perhaps less experienced, therefore did their basic level of service but nothing more than that. Also it's really cramped to leave the restaurant because they only open the entrance, not the other exit. So the spacing of the middle tables makes it horrible if you're seated in that back area. Basically not a memorable experience! If you're a big family with kids you're better off going to the food court. read more
