Their pho here is decent. I usually pick up it up to-go for my parents since it's close by and they seem to like it. The service here is terrible and I wouldn't dine here again unless my parents wanted. I even dread coming here to pick up their food to-go! The lady who is always at the register is rude and I ALWAYS tip but there was a time I paid with my card for the food my parents ordered to go and I thought to tip them with cash since I had bills on hand and as I handed the receipt back to her she looked at it before I could even reach for the cash and pointed out that I didn't tip!!! I thought that was so rude because tipping is an option not mandatory. I didn't even want to reach for cash anymore but did. I came down from California to visit my friend. She kept raving to me about how good the pho is here. So I was excited to try it out. First, when we got there the guy directed us to a table and did not seat us. Then we waited 5 minutes before we got up and got ourselves menus. Then 5 mins after that they brought us water to drink. We sat and waited another good 15 minutes for them to get our order and nobody came. We finally got fed up and left. I judge a bowl of pho by how close it gets to making me feel like a perfectly realized human being, like I'm both fully embodied yet inexplicably light, as if I were slightly buoyant amidst the ocean of material reality; a feeling that is as close to pure happiness as I've ever felt. In a word, euphoric. It's a rare effect, probably more dependent on outside factors than the bowl itself, but it has always been rooted in one thing: how good is the broth? Pho Hung was the first nigh-euphoric bowl of pho I've had in Portland so far. My thoughts during the entire meal were: "oh my god this is so good. Holy fuck this is good. This. This is excellent. Oh my god hompf hompf hompf good." Really rich broth that had a simultaneously pungent and smooth clove flavor, well-mediated by the nutmeg and anise. The only downside was the flank and brisket were a little tough, but time will tell if that was due to inconsistency due the dinner rush, or is just how they do it. My partner got the banh mi bho ko, which was also great, perhaps even greater. Again, the broth was nuts: high on ginger, turmeric, and coriander, it was incredible that the flavors were able to be so potent while still working seamlessly with the underlying beef/marrow/carrot base. By the end of the meal, I didn't quite feel perfect, but I felt good. Woozy, loopy, a bit meat-drunk and pretty heavy, but good. read more

Came here even though the reviews were less than average. Ordered the bun bo hue and the special. Both were saltier than my balls after working out at the gym. Asked the waiter for a straw considering how dirty the cups were and was told they didn't have any straws. The table next to us miraculously had a straw. Service: 3 stars for horrible service. No hello, no eye contact and no checking to see how the food is. Also, quite impossible to get your water refilled. You can just see they do not care about their customers. When paying you have to go up to the front and pay, know your table number. Food: great! I always get the #12 Pho and I love it. This was a month ago, let me start of by saying the food is delicious, especially the pho. The reason I am giving 2 stars is that the service is terrible. I've been coming here for years. Usually when I come it's very busy and packed so I understand there will be some wait time with getting the servers attention. Today I went in the morning and it was a slow day, I had to go.look for the waiter yo get our order in, I asked for more water and waited 20 min before I got up myself and got a pitcher for the table. When it was time to pay the cashier was dummer than a bag of rocks. They were so confused and tried to make us pay for an extra bowl we did not order. It was such a terrible experience. This pho house is so disgusting. I was eating there the other day and as I was eating I found a napkin and a piece of a broken fork inside the pho bowl. I was so angry and called over the owner and she gets flustered and tried to kick me out while saying that they don't use those kinds of napkins. They have terrible customer service and very insanitary and they must recycle their food. I don't recommend going here. read more

I also had the fried spring rolls. They came out perfectly hot and crisp. Wow, really horrible service. I was pretty excited when I realized there was a Pho place near our home- I eat pho at least once a week and was glad to have something nearby to save gas. When we arrived I thought the place looked nice- lots of interior decorating. The waiter however was less than enthused to see us. I kid you not- he sat us in a corner, sneered, then walked away. That was his attitude the entire evening with us. Another waiter scrunched his face (as if he was smelling something bad) when I asked for the check- he told me to go pay up front because I guess they don't bring checks out to people they don't like. At first I thought the first waiter we had might just be in a bad mood but it seems like bad service is just the standard here. As for the food, it was meh. I've had worse and i've had better- but as far as the entire experience goes- I would definitely not return or recommend anyone waste their time or $$. read more

Have been going to this pho restaurant for many years and the taste and quality has always remained the same. Always take my family and kids here. I always like to go before it gets too busy. Typically my family goes around 11am on Saturdays. Starts getting really busy by noon. I always ask for a booth. Even if there's a wait, it moves pretty quickly. I get the beef pho and you can pick whatever meats you prefer. This place is the most authentic pho in all of Portland. I've tried Pho Oregon and the other Pho Hung's but they just don't compare to this 82nd ave one. Oh and also definitely go for the avocado smoothie too! It's amazing. Highly recommend going here! I called in a to go order from yelp, and according to the picture of they're menu the Pho Gá was $9. When I got there I was charged $10 and when I tried to explain that it says $9 on their yelp the lady said they didn't have one. Even after I showed her the yelp page and the picture of the menu she still insisted it didn't exist. So issue #1, I was overcharged. Issue #2, I didn't get a bowl or chopsticks with my order so when I went back inside to ask for them she said they didn't have any. How do they expect their customers to eat their food? Luckily the people at KFC where my boyfriend got food were able to give me a bowl and spork. (not the best way to eat Pho but it's something) Final issue, the chicken was dry and the broth wasn't anything special. Definitely not worth $10 and definitely not worth going back. read more

"Pho Hung" is very special to me. It is fast and friendly place. They feed you well with quality and quanty. Their foods have their own flavor that bring you a all day taste. I also like their rice with BBQ pork. Price is very reasonable about $7 you can fill up your meal. read more

I'm leaving this review because I feel people should know how TERRIBLE their customer service is. I have been coming here for over 2 years now and I've just had enough. I usually come in and dine with my son or bring people here when they come to visit me In town. Well no more. I ordered to go today and they charged me a TO GO FEE. I also asked for extra plum sauce because they give you this little tiny one for free and they charged me .50 each. When I made a comment about it the lady argues with me.....charges me 4.00 for to go and extra sauces. By this time all the works there are staring at me and they are talking in their native language and I can't understand anything...the glares made me feel awkward as hell. I walked out extremely upset considering all the business I bring to this place. Well I'm done that was the worst customer service I have ever had in that place.....food is good for what it is but they are a little over priced for what they serve... I have always thought it but still enjoyed their food. You have just lost a family of customers. My grandmother orders food from them at least twice a week. To be honest I could consume Vietnamese food everyday for the rest of my life. When it comes to breakfast a steamy bowl of beef noodle soup is more satisfying then any egg and bacon combo. Its hard to find other folks who agree so I am often here alone when the doors open at 10am. I always order the round steak with the tendon. The meat is always fresh and the broth is a complex blend of star anise, cummin, cinnamon and other spices that create a deep intense flavour unlike anything else. Along with the soup comes a plate of fresh garnish, bean sprouts, raw peppers, and fresh basil. I rarely leave any of these behind, the crunch of the sprouts and the heat from the peppers round out the dish perfectly. I have had pho all over Portland, and hands down I love this place the best. Dont go there expecting to be pampered, the service is straight forward and quick. just how I like it. read more

In reviewing this place, I find myself at a crossroads. I want to give them five stars, but after being a tiny bit disappointed with my meal (too much hype, maybe?) I just can't do it. I'm one of those bad vegetarians who used to be very strict with my vegetables-only diet, but upon being introduced to the beef broth that comes with a good bowl of pho, I've been turned (a little) to the dark side. That being said, while I'll bend my rule for a good beef broth, I'm still not a fan of meat. I like my vegetables. After hearing rave reviews about this place, I went in expecting the treat of a lifetime. There were no vegetable-only pho options on the menu, so I had to be that jerk who makes special off-menu requests. My tofu pho came out, and it was exactly that- a bowl of broth with a few chunks of tofu in it, and nothing more. No other vegetables at all, which was a bummer. The bowl- I ordered a small- was big enough that I was definitely satisfied, and the broth was as delicious as I'd been told... I just wish there had been a stronger vegetable presence in the dish, as I've experienced elsewhere. The iced espresso with condensed milk was delicious enough that even a non-coffee drinker like me could have probably finished a second glass if so inclined, and my leftovers are just as yummy for dinner as they were for lunch. The place is clean and quiet, a very comfortable atmosphere to relax and enjoy your meal. And something must be said for a staff that has the balls to put unruly children in their place when the parents simply refuse to do so. A little boy was running around, completely ignoring the less than earnest attempts made by his parents to call him back to their table. As he played with the partitions separating tables, one of the staff walked straight up to him, got right in his face, and firmly said "No." He fixed what the little boy had messed up and walked the child back to his family, giving him a dirty look and putting the fear of God (or at least the fear of Pho) into him. Excellent work, sir. If I'd wanted to deal with naughty children running around while I ate lunch, I would have gone to Chuck E. Cheese. Overall a really solid meal with enjoyable atmosphere. I used to be a regular here at Pho Hung on 82nd. It was arguably the best pho in town but I feel that has changed recently. On my recent visits the pho has been below average. The broth wasn't meaty like how pho should be and also had a sour flavor. I am really disappointed and hope things change. Still exploring the places within the immediate vicinity of our new place, tonight I was hungry for pho. I've always thought that it was silly to order anything but soup at places like this but my husband got grilled pork (#37) and it looked really good! We really liked the dark colored sauce served in ketchup containers on the table. It had a really rich chili taste without a lot of heat. I was actually a little underwhelmed by the pho. I was daring and got the "adventurers' choice" with tripe and tendon. Honestly, unlike other tripe I've had, it didn't really add anything to the soup. It didn't have enough flavor to make up for the strangeness of eating it. I also personally prefer cilantro and the soup was served with basil. The menu was also a little confusing. I wasn't sure if all the pho had noodles or not. We loved our spring rolls though. They were firm and held together while we ate them, even with chopsticks, just like they are supposed to. Our server was efficient but not very friendly, but later a woman manager type came by, and she was much nicer. We didn't get a check at our table though. No one ever told us to pay up front, they just stopped coming to the table. What I really liked was the decor, the interior was very pretty and relaxing, unlike many other pho places I've tried that are cluttered. There was also an extensive drink/bubble tea menu that we are excited to return to try. Overall, it was nice, we'll go back, but I'm going to keep looking for that perfect pho for when the craving strikes. read more

I haven't had pho in the longest, since I always eat BBH but I hit up Pho Hung with the family today. I don't expect much in the area of customer service at Asian joints, today was okay, they must have been in a good mood. There's a $0.50 difference between a large and small bowl of pho, just get the small unless you just want more soup. My eye of round steak was overcooked but my brother's looked good, it was still at the top of his bowl and red when it came to the table (preference, I suppose). I also like the temperature of my soup HOT when I get it, fail. Also, for the life of me, no matter how much Sriracha and hot chili oil I added, I could not get it spicy enough! I came here after a night of drinking. It was a Sunday and super packed but it only took about 10 minutes to get seated. They have a big parking lot so parking isn't an issue. The food came out pretty quick and the soup was nice and hot.The broth was really good. Nicely seasoned and had a good beef flavor. It was one of the better pho places around. I always like some Pho now and then. My friend I was visiting likes this place, so I was up for giving it a try. All in all, the food was excellent. No complaints there. The service, on the other hand, was terrible. We waited forever for our food to arrive, and then when we were done and waiting for our bill we sat around while they cleaned and got the place ready to close for the evening. I like it! I really like it. I got the beef stew with 2 perfectly toasted crusty on the outside, fluffy soft on the inside French rolls. These are the same rolls used for banh mi so there was enough bread to soak up every bit of stew sauce. The beef itself was tender and had a good chew, there was like 2 pieces of carrot and 1 piece of potato; good if you're looking for a meat and bread dinner! My hubs got bun bo hue. He says it's on par with Bun Bo Hue Restaurant - meaning Pho Hung is in the top 2 for great PDX bun bo hue. However, there's no pig knuckle and very little pig blood chunks. My friends ordered a veggie pho, regular beef pho and a the bun salad bowl. They seemed happy with their food. The restaurant is nice and it's clean. Usually that's not a great sign for the quality of the food but in this case, I've been very happy with it! The bathrooms are impressively clean and brightly lit... or I have impressively LOW standards (did not see one pair of tongs tethered to the toilet). There are SAUCE PLATES. This is like the 2nd or 3rd place in Portland Metro that I've seen sauce plates available. They're located at the front counter, along with forks, scissors and straws. The space is big and can comfortably seat large parties. They have mostly 2 person tables and were able to push several of them together for my party of 5. There are some 4+ person tables and a maybe a couple large round tables to seat big groups. Point is, this place is very familiar seating groups of 4+. Turn over is fast and there's lots of space so I wouldn't expect a big wait time if any. I went on a Saturday evening and the place was 3/4th full. Pho fast? Fast to me is ordering right after I sit down and receiving pho the moment the server walks away. Not so much anywhere around here. The wait is slightly faster than the usual sit down restaurant and the food arrives at the table when it's ready; meaning some of us got our food earlier than others. Had we not exercised self restraint, we would have finished like half our food before the others received theirs. I like it. Restaurant is clean. Comfortably seats groups. Less "adventurous" meats than other places. Having sauce plates a big plus! read more
