Probably the best Pho in Portland. It's all about the broth for me, and this one is incredible. Zhuj it up with some of the hoisin and sriracha and you're in for a treat. I also love to add lots of the provided herbs. Like most Americans (I think) I'm most into the sliced steak that is added raw and cooks in the soup - I recommend the #12 for the faint of heart that don't want any of the tripe n' such. Also the small is plenty, no need for the large unless you're really a Starvin' Marvin. You really don't need it, but if you want more the tofu spring rolls with peanut sauce are really good. I've also had the thick rice noodles (like udon thickness, maybe more) and they were good but slippery. Atmosphere is bare bones, like a cafeteria merged with a dim sum hall. The waiter delivered it to the table next to us and had the audacity to tell me in my face when I confronted him that they asked for it. Their order hasn't even been taken. While I stare at the kids and their noodles continue to bloat. Absolutely infuriating. The side dishes with the veggies? A plate with just cilantro. No steamed bean sprouts like request. The veggies for the pho dishes? No where to be seen. It's a Sunday. Mother's Day. It's busy. I get that. But that doesn't make up for lack of communication, common sense, or quality of the food. Nothing food-related in this review. I've never even looked at their full menu. This spot is my one and only fix for Bánh Xèo Southern style, made with mung beans. That ingredient sets it apart from the Northern and Central regions, and once you've had it, you'll understand why I don't stray. I'm a sucker for anything mung beans. But this afternoon I went rogue. While waiting for my table, I spotted something on the drink menu I'd never seen before: Avocado Smoothie with Coffee ($7.75). Smoothie + coffee + dessert + affogato vibes all in one glass? I had to get it! Verdict: surprisingly decent. Not an every-visit craving, but definitely a fun curveball when you want something different. Creamy, not too sweet, with just a touch of Vietnamese coffee. If I recreated it at home, I'd go half strong Vietnamese coffee, half mashed avocado, condensed milk drizzle, and sliced almonds for crunch. I came to Pho Oregon with a large group of people in the middle of the week for lunch. I must say that the staff were quite gracious and were able to seat the large number despite the lunch rush and no prior reservation. I personally got a small Tai, Nam, Gan Pho (#7), which was a popular choice with my friends. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, given the number of people within the group. My favorite part might have been a combination of the meat and the broth. The meat was tender, and the broth was rich and flavorful. They also provide a good amount of herbs and greens to go with the pho. To behonest the sizing was on par for the price. I could probably have finished the small if I really wanted to, but I ended up taking some of it to go. Most of my friends ended up finishing their bowls, and they themselves aren't very big people either. The restaurant was decently sized. I will say it reminds me of many of the other pho places I've been to, but I think it adds to the charm in a certain way. I got beef fat on the side, and it added more flavor to the broth! The server was very nice, and knowledgeable of the different menu items. I made my soup spicy, and the broth was spot on. The barbecue short ribs were undercooked and nothing but fat and gristle; I literally had to spit out almost every bite. After moving to Bend, OR, I had been yearning for authentic flavorful pho. So on my way back from a weekend trip in Portland I had to make a stop at Pho Oregon on 82nd. I had previously been to the Beaverton location, so I came knowing that it was going to be delicious. But it truly hit the spot. I came by myself at around noon on a Sunday and was immediately seated at a table. Was brought a steaming pot of jasmine tea, which is a non negotiable for me. Ordered a small #2 combo pho that came quickly with a generous serving of toppings. The broth was savory and warming. I added some sriracha for spice and lime to my liking, but honestly it didn't need anything extra. There was a good serving of protein in the small which left me pleasantly surprised. The rice noodles held their shape through my entire meal. 10/10 - wish I could doordash this to Bend. The restaurant itself is a Vietnamese banquet hall that's well decorated and filled with a good range of table sizes. It was pretty full when I arrived and had a steady flow of incoming tables as I sat through my meal. It's everything you want and expect from an authentic vietnamese restaurant. They are located on the corner, parking is towards the back and they have a rear and front entrances. As soon as I came in, I was offered some ice water and hot tea. I ordered the Pho Oregon Dac Biet (special). This place has some very particulars as advid pho eaters. The staff asked me if I wanted my bean sprouts blanched or not. Which I was surprised, but you'd have to ask for something like that. The detail is this... you have hot broth and if you put unblanched beansprouts in it cools your soup. Blanched beanspouts keep it hot, plus some people are weary of having an upset stomach eating raw spouts. In the image, their slices to beef eye round purposely floating above the broth giving that med-rare texture. The other slices of brisket were also a little thicker than other shops I've noticed. Now, with the plate of greens... there was Culantro. Similar flavor to cilantro, but a little more intense in flavor. I rarely see this at the pho shops. I really liked it. Both wise it was beefy and flavorful and the smell of the aromatics were gentle. Wait staff was attentive refilling your water/drinks. They really have settle details about their dishes that makes sense it appealing. I'd come back again when in Portland. read more

In other words, it's not fancy, but it's very clean and very efficient. Despite its name, we did not go that direction. We decided to go off script and went for this amazing chicken curry. Generous portions of chicken, but also large chunks of what is either some type of taro, root or potato. The curry itself is absolutely delicious. We also got grilled lemon grass pork with a rice noodle roll that is filled with more pork. Comes with a delicious dipping sauce. This was also a pleasant surprise. And the flavor was almost addictive. The lemongrass, chilies. And cilantro. Everything is generously portioned. The services is friendly, and as I said, very efficient. I can't wait to come back! I might be an outlier, but my favorite thing at Pho Oregon is their Banh Xeo--and I don't care! It's easily my top choice and the one by which I judge all other Banh Xeo (which, admittedly, is one of my favorite dishes of all time). If you've never had Banh Xeo, think of it as a giant, hot, crispy crepe stuffed with diced green onions, mung beans, and bean sprouts. You wrap it up in lettuce and herbs served on the side, then dip it into nuoc cham (it's hard to describe, but trust me--once you try it, you'll get it!). Pho Oregon serves it with Shrimp and Pork or a Chay veggie option. I've tried them both, and OMG, they're incredible! Crispy, filled with all the things that make Banh Xeo mind-blowingly delicious, and highly recommended. It's just a matter of what you're in the mood for, but I definitely suggest trying both! That said, I've brought others here who don't see the Banh Xeo light and have opted for the Pho, which is AMAZING. The broth is phenomenal--super rich--and you definitely won't leave hungry. This is my go-to Pho spot. Been around forever, and always consistent. Looks very unassuming as it's on 82nd and parking is all in the back. Very busy always, but waiting is not a thing here, they have service down to a science. Some folks might not be used to such a quick pace, and might seem a bit rushed, but it's just efficiency for them as they do such a night volume. Walk in, a server will make eye contact, and tell them with your fingers or just say how many, and they usher you to a table. Water and hot tea is probably just behind them and will almost greet you at the table. They are not trying to hurry you, but another person will probably come ask for your order in about 30 seconds, haha. Food comes just as fast, and is hot, fresh and tasty. The perfect word is institution on this one. Great for families, large groups or just single quick lunch. Pro move, ask for (or just grab at the condiment table on your way in), the chili vinegar and add it to your soup. Their lemongrass chili oil (at your table) and is made local, is the best I've ever had, and I've tried to buy it with no luck. And while this might not age well, they've always (shortage) had Real Sriracha. Also, go on or around new years (Vietnamese) as they have had in the past, kids in dragon costumes, decor and fun things to see! Cons: it's loud at lunch and weekends! Rolling carts, clearing tables, people talking and sometimes music. It's risen in price, significantly, but good food is worth paying for, and everything has of late, but just a little into: our usual order is spingrolls or dumplings (same or similar price), two large brisket and rare steak Pho, two sodas.
