This place is awesome! It is never busy to where you look at the line and say another day. We came in Monday at dinner time and we got seated and food within minutes! This place is the greatest pho in town so far. The issue I have so far is I wish that it has more meat in the pho. The broth has the right amount of seasoning and throw in line and hot sauce, that will clear your sinuses real quick. We will continue searching for the perfect pho in Bakersfield but we are glad we found a reliable place close to our place. I'm a big dude and even the small bowl fills me up. This restaurant is one of my go to when I am looking for a good soup!! Their pho is just delicious! Their sizes are pretty fair for their cheap prices. They have so many different flavors to choose from, so anyone can be pleased if their in the quest for a quality stew. My only complaint with the food was that they do not have a kids menu, so the last time when I was there with a friend and her kid, we decided to get some teriyaki chicken. When we got the food, they took a long time to bring the kid's plate and it was really burned when we received it. The place wasn't packed, so I do not think that was the problem. Great customer service and very clean place. Every thing was smooth and hostess was very attentive. Atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. Cleaner than most Pho places that I usually go to. With that in mind though, there is a saying that the dirtier place, the better the pho. Surprisingly, I ordered the small #9 Special Combination Pho and it tasted way better than I thought. Though the small-size bowl is noticeably smaller than other Pho places, the taste was near perfection to Fresno pho. One of our, "always stop here whenever we're in town," places, the food is excellent, the service, friendly, and the price is beyond reasonable. Their grilled pork has one of the best flavors AND textures; just the right amount of char, yet still tender to the tooth. A nice mix of greens to their vermicelli complements the grilled pork for a very nice, inexpensive meal with good value for the price. Probably one of the worst places to come if you want service. We walked in and was told to have a seat anywhere. Then nothing, they didn't even come over to give us menus, sat there for 20 minutes. Got the vegetarian tofu $9.25 vermicelli and the filet mignon pho $12.45- both were quite tasty but somewhat different than what I'm previously used to. For the vegetarian tofu vermicelli, they actually have two types of sauces - the low sodium soy sauce and the fish sauce. Coming from L.A. there is no low sodium, so I was anticipating fish sauce. However, they automatically give you the low sodium, so the fish sauce is something you'll have to request for. Overall, the general atmosphere is clean, and food is good. My friend and I got the combo and rare beef. Broth wasn't very hearty or meaty the way I like, but rather thin and watery. Great place...my wife and I are here at least once a week, if not more. The food here is very good, but more importantly, always consistent. The broth in the pho doesn't taste like it's ridden with MSG, and isn't overly salty like a lot of pho establishments. Additionally, the bbq pork vermicelli is delish, as are the spring rolls. I've had the bun bo hue here too which is really good, but make sure you strap yourselves in for a SPICY ride. It is HOT. Best Vietnamese food in Bakersfield, hands down. The first thing I had at Pho Hut was of course pho. I thought the pho was a bit substandard. The broth was too watered down for my taste, and the oomph of beef flavor was just missing. As someone who has tried many varieties of pho and cooks it, I wouldn't really order the pho (I'm so sorry if I sound pretentious :P). However, I also ordered the bun bo Hue, or spicy beef stew, and I was more impressed with this option than pho. It was seasoned quite well, and though it doesn't compare to those found in Orange County, it's quite good all the same. I went to Pho Hut on a late afternoon on a Saturday with my companion. When we walked into the restaurant, we were not welcomed by a host/hostess & saw only one other party. The walls were painted in Shrek color with a branch hovering on the back wall. The dining tables were in a classroom like setup: 2 tables with 4-5 rows down the line. The kitchen is situated right behind the bar stooled dining area. I made eye contact with the head chef, but he said nothing. After another few minutes, I made eye contact with the head chef again and still nothing. My companion & I sat ourselves near the back tables. Lo & behold, the hostess/only waitress walked out of the Ladies Room & greeted us with what seems to be perfectly dry hands (must've forgot to wash her hands after doing her business). Didn't catch her name, but she had light, brown hair with foofy '80s bangs & a ponytail. We ordered water knowing that it would help us quench our thirst while feasting on Pho. We ordered 4 rolls of Shrimp Only Spring Rolls (Goi Cuon Tom) for $6.95 & two large bowls of the Noodle Soup with Seafood (Pho Hai San) for $7.50 each. The appetizer & main meal arrived within 5 minutes of ordering, but they also arrived at the table at the same time. My companion knew that we would have to rotate eating both at the same time since if we started eating the rolls for fear that the rice paper would dry out, then our soup would get cold. Firstly, we had to mix in our fresh veggies (mint, sprouts, onion, & two wimpy sprigs of Thai basil) which were served on a separate place. I must note that Pho Vi offered more fresh veggies than Pho Hut. We then moved onto the spring rolls. They were disproportionate since there was an abundance of mushy vermicelli noodles and not enough fresh greens & basil. We had two rolls that were ripped & had the overcooked shrimp sticking out. The peanut sauce was not a disappointment as well. It tasted like any other bottled Asian, sweet, corn syrup-laden, dipping sauce minus any peanut butter taste. Adding chopped peanuts to a sauce does not make it gourmet! The menu claims that their Pho is hailed as "All of Vietnam's spices in a bowl." Our Seafood Pho had broth that tasted similar to a Dashida broth and not a slowly, cooking, AUTHENTIC beef pho broth. The seafood was imitation seafood meat in the shape of a ball. Think of all the remnants & scrap pieces of meat that go into making a hot dog. Same concept here. There was shrimp, but they were overcooked & tough like the ones in our spring rolls. The rice noodles were tough and not soaked long enough before serving. Instead of rushing the Pho to the table, they should have served our appetizer & let the noodles soak more for the Pho soup & heated the broth more than the lukewarm version they served. We doused our Pho with both red chili sauce & hoisin sauce to make up for the lack of flavor in the broth. After we were done, we noticed that there was a hostess/shift change. Our unnamed hostess/waitress didn't say her goodbyes to us nor did she give us our check. Emily, the new hostess/waitress, didn't seem to care either since she didn't introduce herself to us. What was more appalling was that by now there were a lot of staff running amuck the restaurant acting busy not tending to our table which had plates emptied. Worse than that may you ask? Oh, yes, our unnamed former hostess/waitress sat at the bar stooled dining area with her just arrived, non-staff member boyfriend to eat a bowl of steaming hot Pho. Where was the steam in our Pho? We made eye contact several times, but she said & did nothing. Once I lifted my jaw from the floor, I asked her for the check. Pho Hut is a misnomer, and the sign should read "Faux Hut" instead. I WILL NOT go back even if you pull my eyelids so far back you can see my childhood! read more
