I came in here with high hopes because it was recommended by my father in law. We get seated right away and it wasn't busy at all. Then my boyfriend orders the pork and shrimp rolls and they gave us just shrimp. It took us about 30 minutes to get the rolls and then I ordered chicken fried rice and my boyfriend ordered a soup and an hour passed and we get fed up because there's people who got seated way after us and they are getting served before us. Then we get up and ask for the bill and my boyfriend mentions to her that people are getting served before us and she says "who?" So he says who and she says "all they ordered was soup and it takes longer to do fried rice" I understand that but it doesn't take more than an hour. So my first impression wasn't good at all. We're back here tonight, But the service was not that good like it used to, we have not even asked once if we wanted more water and server gave us the food with missing sauce and I had to come up to the counter and asked for it. We wanted to add more rice but it seem like servers are not that attentive today... Just not happy with the service ... but still food is good We're back at my favorite restaurant in town again... The staff can't do simple tasks (like counting or remember 1 request) then the owner pretty much shrug their shoulders on it. A good amount of friends recommended this place so I thought a good place to start and sure enough it is! We ordered the rare beef pho which was a bit too fatty/chewy for my wife. My niece ordered the beef combination pho and she LOVED it and I ordered the seafood pho. When I ate the shrimp it was perfect, not overcooked and the perfect sweet flavor I was hoping for. The pho, spring rolls, egg rolls and fried rice were decent. I love how they have a kids menu because we have two little ones who don't always finish their pho. Customer service is always great! They greet you and seat you right away. You don't have to wait long for the food to come. They will always come to your table and ask if you need a refill for drinks and/or need anything else to order. Their Thai Tea is soo good (it doesn't come with boba btw). We should be able to give Zero stars or even be able to give them negative stars. My office order from here about once a week. Everyone in the office would order but now only a few people do. My boss offers to pay for my food and I don't get anything, that is how bad it is. During a recent order I decided to give them another opportunity. I did our office pick up order. The manager/owner was working the register. I asked for a small cup of chili oil, she gave me a look like I was sticking my hand into the register and stealing from her. I asked her for some Siracha and she rudely responded that she already had put some inside. I can see she only put 2 little cups for a very large order. I asked if I could get 4 more. she again rudely said it would be $2 for 4 tiny cups, each cup had no more than a table spoon or so in it. This order was over $80 plus gave them a $10 tip, now she charged me $2 for a tiny bit of siracha. It really is not about the $2 she charged but how rude she was. When i got to the office which is less than 5 minutes away the food was not hot, it was warm at best. She had charged me many times for siracha every time I have asked for any. The owner is rude, the restaurant not very clean, the portions keep getting smaller, and the quality and taste of the food are not good any more. Can't forget the time I went in during my lunch break and ordered my pho at the bar. I found a very long hair in my pho. I brought it up to the waitress' attention which then told the owner. She claimed it was mine. I have very short hair. This was a very long hair. The owner did not apologize for it, she instead said something in what I am guessing was Vietnamese as she walked away. The waitress offered to replace the amount of pho I had left with new one. I was disgusted and disappointed by that time that I just payed my bill and left. I read a couple of negative reviews about Pho Hut, which literally punctures my heart, because I love Pho Hut, with the love of a thousand princes, a thousand winds, a thousand sonnets. It's not okay with me and it feels like you're attacking my first-born son. I love their food. It's just good stuff. It makes me feel like I'm home. I once ate at Pho Hut twice in one day with zero regrets. That's just how I choose to live my life, dog. I've tried a lot off the menu but have settled on only two dishes: seafood pho & lemongrass chicken over vermicelli. Both are excellent. Don't fight me on this. I will win, and I will destroy you. Oh, and also get the grilled chicken spring rolls, if you're feeling testy. They've gotten a little bit more expensive over the years, yes, but that's because they've gotten more popular. If you don't understand how this works, take Economics 101 at your local community college and you'll learn a thing or two. I'm sorry to say, our experience was rather lackluster. We arrived at noon on a Monday to what was a very full restaurant. We were seated in about five minutes, but then were proceeded to be ignored. Honestly, I've never had this happen. Our closed menus were even at the tables edge; the universal body language for "We're ready to order!" I scanned the crowd and tried to make eye contact with one of the employees. I understand they were busy, but at the very least something could have been said. Just a hint of acknowledgement would have been nice. It was just really weird. When we did have service it was brief yet polite. But incredibly brief. No drink refills or checking up on us after food was served. Not sure how I feel about that. I have had a hankering for Bun Bo Hue, and this was one of two places in Bakersfield that I knew had it on the menu. I was craving something spicy and filling. Sadly, this was not it. The noodles were tasty, but that's where it ended. The meat was extremely fatty and could have use some trimming. And spicy? Not even close. Not even a little. I didn't expect my socks to be blown off, but when I order a dish that is normally spicy, I want my tongue to tingle with delight. There's a really strong distinctive flavor or ingredient they use, which I don't like ( not sure what it is ) and the broth is extremely bland. But it might not be apparent to most people because my friends like it just fine. So, I come for their Bun Bo Hue. if you want it extra spicy, let them know. It'll probably come out not as spicy, so ask for extra chili sauce. They make their broth to accommodate the majority who cannot handle the spiciness, so I always ask for extra, extra chili sauce on the side. Pho Hut is the only place I would dare to order Bun Bo Hue. It's not the best, but its decent enough. For some reason I have been putting off writing this review. What you get in food, you lack in service. If this is your first experience with Vietnamese food then this would be a good start for your basics. All the food are fairly decent and less than $11. Their pork rolls with peanut sauce are a family favorite and so is the pho. It does take awhile to get your order though. If you are looking for the whole experience of food + service don't expect to find it here. Every time I've been here, and yes I mean every time, the service was bad. I tried Pho Hut this afternoon with a friend for lunch. It's pretty exciting to have yet another Vietnamese restaurant in the Bakersfield area, so I had high hopes walking in. The place is designed simply, with light green walls and sturdy tables. The kitchen is open-air, which is interesting, and the service is pretty good. My friend and I shared five dishes... * Five Spice Chicken With Vegetables Another in a seemingly endless parade of chicken and rice dishes offered pretty much everywhere in the world. If you like that sort of thing, which I do, this dish works pretty well. The chicken is nicely seasoned and blends well with steamed rice. Simple and good. * Jellyfish Salad With Shrimp Chips My dining companion and I tried this in an attempt to be adventurous. The results weren't so great. The salad had jellyfish, shrimp, pork and the usual salad accents, but was covered in way too much vinaigrette. Basically, the flavors ranged from tangy to sour to ridiculously sour, with nothing in-between. The jellyfish wasn't even a deterrent. It just tasted like gummi worms covered in vinegar. * Sugarcane Shrimp With Thin Noodles Lettuce Wraps Easily the best thing I ate at Pho Hut. Basically, it's a "build-your-own-lettuce-wrap" dish. You get a bunch of ingredients brought to your table, along with a bowl of water and some rice paper. The fun is trying to fuse the right blend of ingredients together and wrap the whole thing in rice paper without looking like a total know-nothing American. I failed in that department, but the results were both tasty and amusing. * Shrimp And Pork Spring Rolls Honestly, I wasn't terribly impressed. They used a bit too much basil, and the sauce, while good, wasn't mind-blowing or anything. Definitely better with some chili sauce mixed in. The best thing I can say about the spring rolls is that they were very fresh-tasting. * Fried Banana with Ice Cream It's fried banana with ice cream. Hard to screw up, really. I've had slightly better and slightly worse. Overall, I'd go to Pho Hut again, if only to try some of the menu items the restaurant is promising to offer in the future. Seafood Hotpot? Flaming Quail? Vegans and vegetarians, don't despair! They make an awesome vegan pho...in fact, they have an entire vegan (small-ish) menu, just ask! The fresh rolls were good, though they could've used some thai basil. The pho was fragrant, light, well-bodied, and rich. We also tried the vegan crispy tofu noodle bowl, and it was great with the bean sprouts and tangy sauce over shredded tofu and other veggies. We were going to go to the Thai restaurant in the same plaza because we read they had fake meat and such, but they were closed (maybe because it was Sunday?), and as a couple just traveling through Bakersfield we wanted vegan food ASAP. We headed to Pho Hut but were expecting to be disappointed by beef broth only and the like, but were SO delighted to find options specifically for vegans that required no alterations or omissions. And it was delectable! One more note: we were blown away by the cost of our meal. As in, HUGE fresh rolls (4, like the size of semi-skinny burritos) for $8, large vegan pho that easily made over three entire bowls of soup for $9, and $9 for the crispy tofu bowl that would feed two or more. We gave Pho Hut a second chance after the news media 2 weeks ago. Honestly we were totally happy with the food and services. We noticed a sign Inspection Grade A posted!!! Big relief! The restaurant was remodeled with new paint, clean and modern restroom. As for food, we strongly recommend item #25, Grill pork and crispy roll vermicelli noodle. It was very delicious. The portion was huge for the price. I could not finish it up and had to pack to go. My husband tried pho filet mignon, and he was happy. Overall we will definitely come back. My first time visiting this restaurant was very disappointing. I had high expectations, but I left unhappy. The food wasn't good, the service was unsatisfying and the prices were high compared to other Pho restaurants I've tried. Starting from the spring rolls:The rice paper for the springrolls was stiff on the borders. They didn't look or taste really appetizing to be honest, I would say the only good thing was the peanut sauce. The pho I ordered was bland, it literally tasted like some watered down broth. My partner ordered the salmon, shrimp and rice platter and even though the flavors for this dish were significantly better, the salmon was over cooked and stiff. The service was terrible; servers were slow and the tables next to us stayed dirty almost the entire time we were there, with the plates and dirty utensils just laying there as they welcomed new guests in. There was also very upbeat music playing in the background and it was extremely overstimulating eating there. We had to repeat our orders to the waitress like 3 times because they kept forgetting it and they wouldn't write it down. I made the mistake of not checking the reviews beforehand. I ordered combination egg noodle soup. Again they were stingy with proteins. Flavor was inadequate but tolerable when you are hungry.
