My new favorite place for pho. I've never had a bad or off batch so far. I used to go to Pho Tasty but the last few times I've been, their broth was very off to the point I was skeptical to eat it. I visit this location whenever my bf wants an Ali Baba's burrito. What I like is that my bf will order his burrito and he will meet me inside this restaurant and the staff never have an issue with him joining me. I always order #11 (steak and tripe) and ask for extra cilantro. For ~$13 a bowl, it's definitely worth it. Also cheaper than Pho Tasty. But most importantly, I appreciate the service. I went there today and there is an older man who seated me, had a smile on his face the entire time, and even brought out another fan without me asking. My only critique is that the seating and surrounding areas could be a little cleaner. Sometimes I see food crumbs or stains and once a spiderweb with a spider near the booth. read more

Exceeded my unassuming expectations. It gets the job done unless you're super super picky. I got the spring rolls and they were standard, peanut dipping sauce was super liquidy but I will say that the flavor was just enough and the quantity was just enough to flavor everything mildly. I tried the bun ho hue and it was tasty, and I like how the water is free for you to refill. Food took kind of long though, some of my friends waited over twenty minutes and not a lot of stuff came at the same time. We were like one of two patrons and the staff still forgot something. The ambiance was good though I think we were well taken care of and the interior is not too bad though cramped. When I think of pho places I think of great value, huge portions, and sometimes takeout bc I can't finish all the pho. This is why I usually prefer pho places over Thai. This is NOT one of those places. I used to come here starting back in 2012. Or even before. I recall this place being so good that I want to go to pho king to get 'phoed out'. I haven't been here in a while bc I've been to that other sit down pho place too much. So when I came here recently. Man, I was quite surprised!! The portions were quite smaller than I had expected. And there were not enough 'tai' to satisfy two young growing boys! Normally a pho tai should have lots of meat if tai is the only option. Normally I have to take out extra tai from my older son's bowl bc he never finishes his tai. But not this bowl. And don't even get me started on the extra portion of noodles that I had ordered... Service is decent. Ambiance is ok bc they have lots of indoor and outdoor seating. And it's close to campus. To sum it up, don't come here for pho. It will not pho you up. You can come bc of location (so close) to campus. I might come back just to check out their rice plates; maybe those are still good? But I'll never come back for pho. This is definitely a 3 star restaurant or even lower. It used to be good. My son used to come here and sit on the table in his infant car seat. I would say portion size is good for price. Food is decent but not standout. Service is alright but have experienced some bad moments. Food (7/10) - I don't have much to comment on their food since there isn't much that's standou.t I think that it definitely will hit the craving if you're feeling it but there are definitely better options in Davis. I usually get the bun bo hue with extra noodles whenever I come. The broth is nice and salty but I think it lacks the depth of spice that a lot of good bun bo hue's have. It's dominated by the saltiness rather than the deep, rich spiciness. I think the $15 price is pretty decent for the bowl size but it's usually not enough for me. I have, at one point, eaten 2 extra noodles (my friend couldn't finish their extra order and gave it to me) so it's definitely not crazy big BUT it's decent. Service (5/10) - The service is overall fine but there are some bad experiences that definitely knock this place down points. I'll start with a good moment. It was quite entertaining/slightly impressive to hear our server relay our entire 8 tables order by memory. Now, onto the not so good things. They are relatively inattentive overall since they only have 1-2 servers to cover the entire floor. Often times, it takes a long time to get the attention of a server. The servers definitely also give the vibe of college students who aren't the happiest to be there. They're really low energy and just don't always give off the best vibes. Overall, my worst service experience here was regarding a plate of bean sprouts. It's pretty common for bean sprouts to pool water at the bottom of the plate; this is just how it is. However, this server brought over the plate of bean sprouts to my friend and just spilled the water in their lap and had absolutely no reaction to it. Maybe they just didn't notice (which I frankly think is hard to do since server's can usually tell when plates are tipping in their hands) but they just walked off without saying anything. Ambiance (6/10) - The lighting is just super dingy in here and it's dark inside. It looks like a standard restaurant otherwise. Overall, it's not a bad pho restaurant but it's also not even the best Vietnamese restaurant in Davis. Wouldn't super recommend; just pick one of the others. read more

Ordered lunch from this place for a large graduate group event. They offer several dietary options including vegan and vegetarian options for their banh mi as well as the standard chicken and grilled pork. Every worker I encountered from asking questions over the phone to the worker who helped me place an order via email and the worker who delivered the sandwiches was very helpful. The affordability of this place is probably the best I have seen in Davis with each banh mi at ~$8. Portions are generous although I did find the grilled pork too star anise heavy and there was not enough caramelization on the meat. There was also a lot of mayonnaise in the sandwiches, but I think that is what most people preferred. Overall, the banh mi were a hit and I would not hesitate to order from here again. read more

This place is so amazing! I come here every weekend to order the Steak Pho and the prices are absolutely unbelievable! For only 15$ you get a huge portion of such great tasting Pho. The staff are also extremely friendly and very welcoming. They always accommodate you and assist with refills and making your experience very comfortable. I don't understand the negative reviews, because this place has never felt dirty or badly staffed. Everyone is very knowledgeable and clean. The restroom is also nicely kept as well. The food is cooked very well, and I've order several time, both takeout and dine-in. Additionally we are both Hispanics, and have NEVER felt disrespected at all! Actually the opposite and extremely welcomed! Overall, my experience is extremely well and the food is exceptionally amazing. If you know your Pho and are in Davis, stop by and give it a try. I love pho so much! Whenever I visit a new spot I like to get their combination pho, spring rolls and Thai tea and during my visit to Pho King 4 I was very predictable. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating options and the menu has so many great options on it including vegan and vegetarian options. We ended up eating at the restaurant and I loved getting to doctor up my pho there with hoisin, sambal and all the beansprouts and jalapeños. I love the flavor combination of savory, sweet and spicy that you get with pho. Everything was delicious and even though I ordered a small pho I still ended up taking leftovers home. It's never as good reheated so if you can eat most of it at the restaurant that's ideal. If you do take home leftovers just know your noodles are going to soak up that delicious broth, still delicious but less soupy. I'm already craving pho again though!! read more

Please do not come here. Go to pho tasty or anywhere else. My friend and I came here because pho tasty was closed and thought we would give this place a chance and we were wrong. We ordered 2 pho and spring rolls. M One of the pho has a bug in it. We let the waiter know and he asked if we wanted a new one. I asked if it was possible to not be charged for the pho since it has a bug in it and the waiter said they can't do that. There was no apology or acknowledgment that there were bugs in the soup! The waiter was not flexible at all and all we could do is get a new soup. I'm sorry if the food has bugs in it, hard to think we would want anything else from the place. They remade the soup but by this point we were full and lost our appetite. We ordered spring rolls and they were very cold. I know the lettuce needs to be refrigerated and the noodles go into cold water but these were so cold as if they were straight out the fridge. There aren't too many pho options when it comes to Davis, so if you're in the mood and you're close to campus, Pho King 4 is probably the option you'll have to go for! The food here is ok if you're really in need of some pho or Vietnamese food. It does the job at a fairly decent price, but it is certainly not the best you've ever had. I found the broth to be a bit under seasoned and less rich than I would like. However, you do get a very nice portion of noodles. I ordered a large size and the noodles really filled me up well. I also had an order of spring rolls with peanut sauce. The roll itself was pretty bland - the sauce was a necessary addition to make the roll good for eating. It was a nice sauce that I did enjoy. If you're in Davis and want your pho fix, I mean, this is the place you'll probably head to. Came around 1pm and seemed like they were kind of busy considering school starts soon. Waited for a good five minutes before I sat down. I got a menu and then got water. I kinda already knew what I wanted so I sat there for a while before someone came and took my order. I ordered a small combo pho with my steak on the side and pork and shrimp spring rolls. I got my pho first and the first glance I had was I realized that they didn't put my steak on the side (I prefer my meat not cooked all the way) so it was cooked all the way through. The meat in the pho was literally about 2 pieces of everything. After trying the broth and mixing it abit I realized I was missing meatballs and I had ask the waiter if this was the correct order. He was kind enough to bring me my meat balls (I know it's just meatballs but I want my money worth). The broth itself was pretty good but I did realize that a few bites into my pho I was super thirsty meaning there's probably a good amount of msg in the broth which I don't mind, just letting others know. The spring rolls themselves were okay. The pork felt kinda dry but it was edible. When I was ready to check out I had my wallet open and my card ready to pay but nobody had help me. Three employees just walked by me like they didn't see me so I was super confused and I thought maybe it was a self check out since the clover machine was facing me. I just checked out myself because they were taking to long. This place is only convenient for students and is super pricy for the lack of meat they put into the pho. Customer service is ehhhh, could be worked on but overall I would probably only come here if I were super desperate. Meh pho place. Seemed pretty beaten down and old. Their large pho didn't seem like a large at all. Instead seemed to be placing the soup into a larger bowl. Broth was meh. Nothing exciting. Our group ordered two large bowls and they only gave up what seemed like a medium amount inside a large bowl. They bought out one plate of the additional stuff to add into your pho instead of the usual two if you have two large phos.Also ordered a rice plate which was okay. Believe this place needs to revamp their food and restaurant. Looks like it could really use a refresher. Would recommend driving elsewhere from more worthwhile pho. Pro tip- avoid eating from 12-1 pm weekdays The staff is friendly and tries their best to keep up, but I feel like the kitchen is run as if it's a one man show. For pho it took them 40 minutes to get to us :(. We asked for extra limes which were not fulfilled and waiters were too busy to fill water/ get checks within 15 minutes. ( also the table beside us got their order first and finished before we even got ours despite ordering pho after us). Rice and fried dishes are a lot faster. The banh mi was okay, pricy for how it was filled so I probably wouldn't get it. The bread was buttery tho. I already knew the reputation of Pho King being not so great so I didn't have high expectations but it was raining and I was walking so it was the closest place. The bun bo hue might be a regional difference but I've genuinely never had bun bo hue like this. It actually shocked me. I can't pinpoint what threw me off but the lemongrass was shredded into small bits which made the soup have some sort of texture? It was so strange. I wanted to provide a post-covid update since I wrote my original review in 2014. It's still the same. terrible service, bad pho. Would rather go hungry. Original review here: Hands down worst service in Davis. I TOLERATED their terrible service because I like pho. However, I can honestly say that I have never had a good experience here, and yesterday was the last straw. After waiting 40 minutes (while others were getting their food in 5-10 minutes) we finally complained, only to find our order never made it to the kitchen. The worst part is that nobody apologized to us. This is not a isolated incident, their service is consistently terrible. The pho is like a 4/10 too. Mostly broth and noodles, with very little vegitables and meat. More like a fancy top ramen than real pho. read more
