Chicken in black bean sauce lunch special with chow mein
    Jacquelin S.

We went to Spring Garden for lunch on a Sunday. We were offered our choice of tables and the waitress came right over to offer water. They have an impressive number of selections on their lunch specials menu. I ordered Chicken with black bean sauce and my husband ordered General Chicken, his go-to dish at Chinese restaurants. The lunch came with a bowl of Hot & Sour soup. The first sip of soup was off-putting. There was an underlying flavor that I couldn't identify that tasted bad. There were plenty of pieces of egg and tofu and other items in the soup, and it did have a vinegary taste to it, but neither of us enjoyed it. Then our dishes arrived. We each ordered the chow mein with our entrees. There was a massive amount of noodles. They were OK, a little salty. My dish had a lot of barely cooked carrot, green pepper and onion pieces. There was a fair amount of chicken but I didn't like the flavor of the sauce. My husband also didn't like the flavor of his General Chicken. The portion size was large and we took most home, but my husband said he may toss his. On the way out my husband used the restroom and he said it was filthy. Perhaps we should have checked it out before ordering and then gone elsewhere. I'm hoping heating up my chicken will cook the veggies and make it slightly better. Oh well, we gave it a try and discovered it's not for us.

A large Wonton Soup was $15.00, 1 bowl for each of us. Very greasy, 4 egg rolls. $28.00 for dinner. $$$

    2. General's Chicken lunch combo

Hit or miss. The beef dishes are decent like the broccoli beef and mongolian. Every time i go with the chicken im disappointed. This general chicken doesnt taste like any other chinese place ive had, and the breading was very soggy. It's honesty not good and ruined my lunch.

This is a picture of the hair my mother found in her chicken chow mein.

The food was slightly lower mid-level; until a hair was found in my takeout. Tried to call and let them know but no answer.

Dinner for 2 option A 16.99 each person Sweet and Sour Pork Broccoli Chicken

Dinner for 2 option A 16.99 each person It comes with chicken&broccoli, sweet n sour pork, 2 cheese wontons, 2 spring rolls, and rice but we subbed the rice for pork chowmain. ANN IS AMAZING!

The portions were large, the seafood soup, beef in garlic sauce, Mongolian beef, rice and BBC Pork Bun (a must order) were incredible.

This place was nice and cool, when it was 110 degrees outside. The food was delicious and the General's chicken was so tasty!

Delicious food and big portions for a reasonable price. Staff was friendly; great service with a smile. Will definitely go back again.

Sometimes (especially during lunch) it gets pretty busy and there's only one waitress - so you'll need to be patient, but she really does go out of her way to try to keep everyone satisfied. I don't think I've ever seen the woman sit down or rest lol. I would definitely go check it out if in the area. Can't go wrong with a deluxe dinner for one!

Some dishes were too salty, some were too bland, very greasy. The flavors had all one dimension so I quickly got bored of the taste. Many of us couldn't finish our food. It didn't feel worth $15. The service was also disappointing. It took us a half and hour to get seated and an hour to get our waters. There's apparently only one waitress ever who seemed very overwhelmed and unhappy to be at work. It also took a while to flag her down to ask for the check. The ambiance is also eerie. The taxidermy is outdated. There was no music. There seemed to be no good airflow in the restaurant. I don't mean to just write a review to be cruel. But I do understand why this restaurant is going out of business. And honestly the food, ambiance, and service all need a fresh restart.

I wanted wonton soup, it's a comfort food for when I'm sick and he found this spot through Google. We were pleasantly surprised! We got the war wonton soup, beef and broccoli combo lunch with white rice, and General Tso chicken lunch combo with fried rice. We were not expecting for the portion sizes to be this HUGE. It was enough food for almost three meals!! The noodles has that nice smokiness from cooking over high heat, perfectly chewy and firm at the same time. The amount of beef they give you is great as well, good beef to veggie ratio. My fiancé enjoyed his meal as well. The General Tso had a lot of chicken, it wasn't just straight batter like some places and it was actually a little spicy which he appreciated. The war wonton soup was warm and comforting, exactly what I wanted. The meat was tender, the shrimp was huge, and the wontons were generously filled. It tasted like a mix of bbq pork and beef for the filling? It was different from wontons I grew up with, but it was still good. The service was great as well, and the restaurant was very clean. If we needed some food when we come back from the airport, we know where to go. The amount of food you get for the price you pay is a great value.

The noodles in the crispy noodles was NOT crispy. The fried shrimp were boxed and not battered. The chicken chop Suey was very generous with the chicken, but lacked vegetables. Yang Kee in Roseville is a favorite, so we naturally wanted to enjoy the food at the Davis location. The service was close to nonexistent. Once we were seated, and given menus, it's obvious that the offerings at the Roseville location are far more extensive than they are at the Davis location. We decided to order the BBQ pork buns because it's always a go to for us, and we figured we'd peruse the menu while we were enjoying the buns. The buns arrived at the table, and they were immediately visibly noticeably different, but it wasn't until we tried them that we noticed that there's also a huge taste differential. There was very little filling compared to what we're used to. It was mostly bun, more than anything else. When the buns were placed on the table, there was no contact with us/the table to find out how we we're doing, about the food, etc. Very much felt like a churn and burn moment. Based on the lack of Customer Service, and poor food quality, we opted to not waste any more time or money, and we would find another place to dine at. Thankfully, we are closer to the Roseville location and will still continue to enjoy the food there. We definitely will not be back to this location
