Having lived practically next door to Little Saigon in Westminster, CA for decades I'll be frank- I didn't expect really good Vietnamese food in Chicagoland. But we also ordered Cha Gio (pork fried egg rolls) and man- they hit it! They were busy- with food this good, I get it! It had the typical, slightly grungie vibe of Vietnamese restaurants I remember in California - a bit older, needed a paint job, and the walls had some smudges. But it did NOT detract from the food one iota! Will I come here again? Well, yes - as long as I'm willing to brave the sloth-like traffic speeds from I-90 over here, that is - damn. It takes a LONG time to get anywhere in the City (which is why I live in the suburbs). But I'll be back. And if you try this place? I think you'd agree with me- it's good!

The crab meat is broken up into the broth, so you do need to drink the spicy broth to get the full benefit of the dish. The beef papaya salad was just alright. Compared with other papaya salads I've had, I wanted more sourness and tartness to give it that sharper, more authentic flavor profile. The biggest disappointment was the cà phê trứng, or egg coffee. After having the real thing in Vietnam, I was excited to try HaiSous' version, but the coffee was not strong or bitter enough to create the right contrast, there was not much beaten egg, and the drink was overwhelmed by a large amount of whipped cream. It came across more like a very sweet dessert coffee than a faithful egg coffee. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would come back. There are some misses, but the stronger dishes -- especially the wings, bánh xèo, and crab noodles -- make HaiSous worth trying for a creative Vietnamese brunch or dinner.

The restaurant brags about its phở broth and it's very good, very meaty and balanced. There are also large platter options (lettuce wraps, for example) and hot pot options. I didn't try the hot pot, but the group one table over had it. Speaking of the other group, so many varied entrees came out of the kitchen - it was cool to see more than just phở. The waitstaff is quick... almost to the point of impatient! But never problematic. Be aware that dishes fly out of the kitchen as they are ready. One bowl might come out way before the others. An appetizer might come out last. It just whatever is ready (it appears). Also, their takeout game is strong, judging by the amount of trays ready to go and people coming in to carry-out. It's a little far for me to do takeout, but still nice to see.

I've been here a few times and this is one of my mom's favorite pho place to go. This is located right next to the red line in Argyle. You will see Meyer parking but I normally park at the resident street parking on Winthrop. It's a small place but not too shabby. I'm not a pho person but their pho is usually good compared to other pho places in Argyle. I was quickly seated and server was friendly. Service may be slow since I came in when they just open but that's okay. I usually get the mi kho which is bomb! But this time I ordered the banh uot cha lua and my bf got the combination fried rice. They both came out quick and hot and Both were delicious. I don't usually go to a Vietnamese restaurant since I'm Viet and I cook these or my mom made these at home but if I do, this will be one of the places that I would go. read more

We were seated right away at a very clean table. The server came out with these refreshing water with very light hints of green tea! My family loved it. My dad ordered the Pho Dac biet, and I ordered the Com Ba Luc Loc. As a Vietnamese family, we though the food was DELICIOUS! I loved my com ba luc loc - so much flavor, and a generous portion of rice with beef & vegetables. Best part? The bathroom was spotless - very rare in Chicago. I was in the area with two of my friends and we all are craving for some pho. We asked around and two people told us about this place. Place is full when we arrived but luckily theres customer who went out so we grab the chance to take a sit. While they were cleaning the table, they handed us the menu and got our order.
