This was my first time here at the Banh Mi Spot. I like Banh Mi because because they are somewhat simple and cost-effective, but satisfying. I tried the Saigon classic sandwich and it was good, although I wish the ham was a little thicker. Usually the pork is a thick cut, and this ham looked like sandwich meat. It still tasted good, but I think the bacon I added on and the pate dominated most of the sandwich. The price for the Banh Mi sandwich was reasonable (~$12), but with my three add-ons (egg, bacon, and avocado), it came out higher in price. I would try this spot again, but I would like to try one of their sandwiches with chicken. My friends and I sat outside which was nice with today's weather! The seating area inside is a little small. Staff was so nice and friendly and I was honestly shocked there was no place to tip when I tapped to pay. You do order at the counter and they bring it to you or call your number. We had a few $ in cash so added those to the tip jar. Food came out fast, but my first bite was a pretty big disappointment. The bread was warmed, but soft and kind of mushy chewy - like a hoagie. Typical banh mi has a nice light and very crispy bread. The meat flavors were fine, but the pate was somewhat bland and an important missing flavor profile. The jalapeño was nice and spicy. This is a little gem just outside the alley of my apartment complex. I have only gotten to go orders so far but everything is always delicious. My go to order are the shrimp spring rolls and beef pho. The pho is very delicious and as always piping hot! The jalapeños in it are quite spicy so take that into consideration if you don't like it too spicy. In any case you can always take them out. I love how everything is so neatly packaged. The pho is large enough to share. My boyfriend gets the itis after eating it. The real star of the show for me is the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. It is oh so good. It tastes like a dark roast and it is perfectly blended with condensed milk. This is my fifth time getting it. I really enjoyed my first meal here and very much expect to be back! Tons of great options on the menu but I went with the pork noodle salad to start. I had a Vietnamese coffee too which was a perfect pick me up. The staff are lovely, really really friendly and helpful. It was great chatting with them! The vibe here is pretty casual with kind of a strange layout of two little dining areas, but they said they can accommodate groups with a heads up. The food was FRESH. Especially with Vietnamese food this makes such a big difference with the herbs, sprouts, etc. I was pleasantly surprised!! Located pretty conveniently in Logan square but finding parking around here is a nightmare on busy days. Place is really small, has just 7 tables, so we had to wait to sit. They don't really have servers per se, all the utensils are self serve. Foods pretty good, pho beef was very tender and soup flavor was good. The basil didn't look too fresh but bean sprout was good. Shrimp spring roll has a tiny bit mint in it but no basil. Shrimp is not halved and the black thread in the back is still there sadly. Peanut sauce is pretty liquid and mild in flavor, it's entirely savory and no hint of sweet (which is different than a lot of other places). The banh mi was good, baguette was really good, fluffy soft and crunchy. The tofu was not bad but too mild in flavor since the lemongrass seem to be a seasoning rather than infused flavor. Cucumber is not pickled, but the carrot is, but pickled flavor is so mild, could do a more stronger flavor, also no daikon. Texture of banh mi is good but flavor I think could pop more. Bathroom has paper for drying hand which is a plus for me, can also use to open the door handle. Utensils are really cheap and some of the thin plastic soup spoons are pretty dirty so had to wipe clean with napkin. read more

This place is such a great option for Vietnamese food in the area. The food is fresh, delicious and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. I was impressed with their vegan options as well. The service is friendly and relatively fast. The only downsides I've encountered are that when I've ordered online they don't often follow the instructions on the online ordering (for example you can request your sandwich be cut in half) but they never actually cut it. And they never label the sandwiches so if you order multiple different sandwiches you will have to unwrap them and open it up to find out which is which. Lastly when I have ordered online the food hasn't been ready when at got there no matter if I ordered it 30minutes in advance or 15. I wasn't in a rush so it wasn't a problem for me but if you're in a hurry or on a lunch break that could be an issue for you. While the establishment tries to present itself as a standard eatery, the 'vibe' was incredibly off-putting and felt unsafe. Oh no! It's not every day that I put out three stars for a place but everything about the food that I ordered was a hard miss. I got three lemongrass banh mi and also one bbq pork for my friends and I. Mind you, I did takeout and upon arriving to the restaurant, got to chat with the owner and the staff, all of whom were SO lovely and sweet. He stated he felt bad for having the food sit out for 30 minutes (not his fault- I blame it on Chicago rush hour traffic!) and wanted to remake all the sandwiches. I insisted it was ok, and he proceeded to offer me a free baked cookie. Fast forward and my friends and I all had a bite of our banh mi and not only was the bread soft (almost like a hoagie) but the lemongrass chicken tasted slightly off and I was caught off guard by what appeared to be a creamy dressing (??) that overwhelmed the vinegar-y pickled carrots and daikon. We all agreed the bbq pork was way better than the lemongrass chicken. Unfortunately, the free cookie was a nice gesture but was actually inedible. Food was alright, we stopped by for a quick banh mi with no wait on a Saturday afternoon. Couple of things that were off about our visit but staff was friendly and efficient. Lemongrass chicken banh mi - found a small hair in the sandwich but had already eaten most of it at that point, so I wasn't about to make a scene. Good flavor on the chicken and veggies were fresh. Bun is very very lightly toasted but comes pleasantly warm. Veggies are also pickled well, which I do prefer. Solid sandwich even though I remember a time when banh mis used to be $4. AI generated art on the walls was freaky. I liked the way my banh mi looked when it came and that would've been a great picture tbh. All the art flashed near the menu and hung up was flawed AI generated art that didn't feel great. I never thought I'd be commenting on this but it made the experience weirder (in the bad way). I really love Vietnamese food and I want to support a local asian business. I grew up going to Viet restaurants where half the volume level is the staff yelling and at least one or two tables are taken up by children in a family-owned establishment; looking to be constructive in feedback here.
