An interesting, family owned pho joint. We ordered the Pho Tai Bo Vien. For the price, the broth could have been prepared better. Tasted a bit like the broth wasn't prepped with the bones long enough. The flavor of cloves upstaged everything else. But the restaurant was a bit entertaining. The poor husband kept getting a hard time from his wife, and it seemed that the poor guy was publicly getting beat down by her verbally. He seemingly got his revenge when the wife got our "coconut juice" order wrong, she brought us cokes instead, and he gave the hostility right back to his wife when he found out he get our drink order incorrect. I love pho. I love Vietnam Cafe. So when my awesome friends asked the BF and I if we wanted to have pho for dinner... of course we said "yes"! There are only 3 parking stalls in front, otherwise you need to find street parking. Luckily when we went someone was leaving so were able to get a spot in front of the restaurant. It's a pretty small restaurant with about 10 or so tables... and it was kinda warm in the restaurant (where's the AC?!) A woman seated us and a man brought us menus.. probably the owner? He was very nice though. The BF and I ordered our regular: spring rolls. I can't remember the price... but the wrapper were very thick and the filling wasn't very delicious... and they only give you 2 spring rolls! Really bad customer service. Seems like the owner was there and was very rude to my girlfriend and I. We were ordering the beef pho and was taking it togo. For some reason you can only order a large to go. No other size he said. Place looks run down and also my girlfriend ended up getting food poisoning from this place. Undercooked eggrolls were not it. This is a very typical Vietmanese restaurant, small business, fresh ingredients, rock solid flavors that you would expect. Landed in Oahu, checked into our hotel and was able to walk in and get a tasty meal in a hurry. Because of the location, I sense mostly locals eat there, but worth the trip. Typically I'd order pho if I'm at a pho restaurant but I wanted to try something different so I got the vermicelli with spring rolls and pork. Spring rolls were nice & crispy! Everything was yummers! What the PHO? =) Located on Ina Road next to the 7Eleven on the corner. Tried this place for the first time last week. I would have to say, its one of the better Pho places I have been to. Its not because of the atmosphere or the people....but rather the Pho base (soup). I really didnt believe my friend when he told me its one of the best, but I would have to agree. The soup isnt to salty or fishy as Ive had at other places. The rare beef has flavor and is of a higher quality. Vegetables are fresh and tables are clean. I regret that I didnt try more things but this was my first time to this place and I didnt want to order more food incase it wasnt as good and I have come to expect. We are this restaurant twice during our week long trip to Hawaii. We loved the comfort food of the pho, vermicelli and rice dishes. We wanted to try their bun rieu special but both days we went it was not available (sold out, or just not made that day). It was a special that was advertised on each table so it was a bit misleading. The waiter was quiet but pretty attentive with waters once we sat down and he seemed to be liked by all the locals that came in. The area seemed a bit sketchy but not too bad. I just moved into the Ala Moana/Waikiki area and was walking around and decided I to try this place. Just ordered the lemongrass shrimp & squid plate and it's bomb. I asked them for chili paste & Thai Chillies and they humbly "told me this is not a Thai restaurant, this is Vietnamese." Oops! I was chillaxing in Waikiki on a Saturday morning at the ING Direct Cafe on Kalakaua Ave. After a few hours of just working on my iPhone, people watching, and charging my iPhone, it was time for lunch. There was a few Pho places that my Yelp iPhone app had told me, and this was the closest one on Ena Road. It was just off Kalakaua Avenue, but it can be hidden at times. I looked for it with not real difficultly, since it was right there when you cross the street and walked to Ena Road. It's in this dainty building that looks like an apartment building, with Pho Minh Thu on the 1st floor. They have their "People Love Us On Yelp!" sticker, so I guess the reviews of this place really proceeded me. I decided to eat here due to the aforementioned sticker. I guess I got in at the right time, as the place was quite empty, with just a couple tables were occupied. The ambiance was nice and they had the radio going too. I wasn't sure if it was meant for the guests or the management themselves. Oh well. The dude who was the server and the cashier seemed to be the owner of the place, since he was talking in Vietnamese with the people in the kitchen in said language. With that said, this place is pretty much a mom and pop business and its always good to patronize such businesses from time to time. The location is humble, but still quite nice for what it is. The dining area consisted of tables and chairs, which was alright with me, although most of them are like this. If people like booths, then they should find one that is comparable. The service was quite quick. I ordered the quintessential summer rolls with beef combination Pho. Nowadays, I use the chili sauce you squeeze from the bottle and whatever that hot sauce you gotta scoop up in those cup things into the peanut sauce and have the mix of summer roll and kicked up hot sauce just burn in your mouth. That one was bad ass. The Pho itself was pretty good, although the portions could be better. They skimped on the noodles, but they made up for it with a more than enough portion of beef. The server dude was busy after I finished, but he did not come around to see how I was doing or not to refill my water cup. After waiting 15 minutes, I just went up to the counter to pay. Most Pho houses come and give you the check at the table. This one obviously doesn't. The prices were pretty reasonable. Worth going back, but the service was very lacking. Don't mind the decor, it really is a typical hole in the wall. Ignore the appearance and you are in for a treat. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the beef pho. Ranks up there with the best pho in Little Saigon in Orange County. I also had the Canh Chua Ca, also very good and authentic sweet and sour soup with catfish and all the trimmings. I wanted to like this place. Its a smallish restaurant like ones I've eaten at before that had great food. Unfortunately this one of those times. The cha gio I think was store bought. The dough was thick and a bit tough. They were rolled into thin rolls so the balance of meat filling to dough was wrong. The Pho ga that my wife ordered had only a hint of chicken flavor. The pho with flank steak and meat balls had decent flavor but not the deep rich flavor of broth cooked for a long time. It cam with the usual fixings except no jalapeno pepper which we missed. The people are nice and trying but still missing some beats like not cleaning up the tables quickly to accommodate the waiting but soon gone customers unwilling to put up with poor organization in the front. read more

We said they ordered fried rice and they argued with us then dropped the plate in front of them. Then we we ordered new chicken fried rice and they said they were out of chicken and made normal fried rice. Of course I was charged for both. Not even the worst part, there were roaches on the wall. During my vacation in Hawaii I started to miss the pho back home in Sacramento so I searched on Yelp for pho restaurants near my hotel. After looking through a couple of them I found Pho Minh Thu and it had a lot of good reviews so I decided to check it out. It was a small little spot tucked away from all the more touristy restaurants, but nothing I haven't seen before, it actually reminded me of home. I was seated very quickly and the food came out shortly after I ordered a large bowl of Pho Dac Biet (around 10 minutes). I was satisfied with my pho, it was pretty tasty, and the portion was decent in my opinion, almost like back home. The only reason I rate Pho Minh Thu a 4 and not a 5 is because of the high bar that has been set by my hometown pho restaurants, but it was good food and good service. Pho this Pho that Pho King st. etc.. You don't know till you try if it's to your liking. Clear broth dark/rich broth, too salty or not. Pho Minh Thu is perfect for me. Clear and rich full of flavor this broth doesn't leave me drinking 3 glasses of water after. Noodles are not soggy at all and the meat appears hand cut and fresh. I ordered a Medium sized bowl and this was sufficient for me. I also ordered Bo Tai Chanh (Lemon Beef Salad). Lemon Beef Salad is a must try if you are trying to eat a little healthier. There is free parking here and that's rare for Waikiki! We've passed by here so many times that we finally decided to try this place out today. The restaurant was larger than we expected. There were only a few tables occupied when we came for lunch but as we ate our meal, the place got busy! It's very clean inside and they were very prompt in giving us menus with water. There was so much to choose from that it took us awhile to order. Pho was our final decision with Summer Rolls as our appetizer. I got the medium size combination pho minus tendons and my bb got the large combination pho with the rare meat on the side. We asked for the bean sprouts to be steamed but it came out raw. That was disappointing after the waitress told us that wouldn't be a problem. The Summer Rolls were normal size and taste was about average. Pho here came in good portions and the veggies were fresh. Too bad the broth was nothing special and didn't have much taste. Overall, we're very glad to have finally tried this place. It's about 2.5 stars on food but because the prices are really cheap, they get a .5 star bump up to 3 stars. This is our fav place to eat Vietnamese food every now and then. We go there every week or every other week. The regular dishes we order are "spring rolls", "Pho with beef steak and beef ball" and "Chicken and Pork chop". This place had 3 different owners since I moved into Hawaii 5 years back and the first one was "Pho Tri". I like the one now the best. The owner told us that they don't use MSG for soup and make it from scratch like chicken and stuff. That's why I don't get thirsty after I eat Pho at this place. We came here with 5 people when the restaurant was empty so we asked if we can push two tables together to have more room for our meal. But they said NO!!! They forced all 5 of us to sit at a small table against the wall made for only 4 people in an empty restaurant!!! The food also took forever to come out when there were no other customers. We also asked for an extra bowl to put some food and they kept bringing out this same dirty bowl with left over food in it. When our food came out there was PUBIC HAIR in it!!! We told the waitress of this and she said it's okay Vietnamese people eat hair!!!! LOL. She then left the food at our table with PUBIC HAIR in it and walked away. What is wrong with this place!!!! Food was good. Staff was pleasant.Service was EXTREMELY SLOW. People who came in after us got food before we did. And it was food we had ordered also. After being seated we waited at least 35-40 mins for our main dishes to arrive. The water was never refilled. I used the bathroom which was old and run down but clean. Although I did have to walk past a large buckets of defrosting meat packets. The pho was delicious! Large portions with fresh toppings. I had the medium vegetable pho & it was packed with fresh veggies. I would get a small next time because I couldn't finish it. My little kids shared a medium plain noodle pho & it was plenty & they liked it. One star was lost because walking in, the restaurant does not impress. It seems a bit grimy & we saw a cockroach, but decided to stay because it was reasonably priced & seemed to have regulars eating in & getting take out. I'm glad we did since the food was so good.
