I ordered summer rolls but I couldn't figure out why they were blah. Half way through it hit me, they were missing all the ingredients. No sirloin pork, cucumber, no mint just some shrimp and rice vermicelli. When I asked my elderly waiter he asked the kitchen, came back and told me they were out of the other ingredients. The cook, in Vietnamese said to tell me she put in more shrimp instead. Unfortunately for her I do understand Vietnamese so she was just lying, they had the standard amount of shrimp. They didn't taste good at all and in hindsight I shouldn't have paid the bill at all. At the very least they should not sell items they don't have or lie. They offered no apology or discount on something I didn't even order. Never going back, too many other choices everywhere else and I'm not too sure the kitchen would pass any form of health inspection. read more

First time I've tried Vietnamese banh mi and after a day of traveling- it hit the spot! They were out of the normal meat so we got chicken. It took a little over 10 minutes to prepare, which was surprising because there really weren't many people at the location at the time of my visit. Don't order the chicken curry unless you want 95% potato soup and 1 ounce of low quality dark meat and thighs. I suppose it's a good option for anyone carb loading for the week even though I told the waiter I wanted a mainly chicken/ protein dish before I ordered. I wondered if a mistake was made with my order as I thought they brought potato soup with a side of rice by mistake. The server was argumentative and rude as was the cook. It was very unprofessional of the cook to come to the table and angrily yell "chicken chicken chicken" while pointing at the potato/carrot soup with maybe 1 ounce of dark meat. We almost walked past this place. It is sandwiched between a 7-11 and an Irish pub. There are maybe a dozen tables inside. It really is a hole in the wall. The specials were taped to the table but the regular menu was plentiful. There were lots of vegetarian options plus traditional pho, noodle dishes and rice dishes. The pho can be ordered in 3 sizes - small, medium or large. I imagine small would be great if you ordered appetizers. We ordered 2 medium pho and a tofu and vermicelli dish for a late lunch. Since my first review, I've become the Duke of this place which I'm proud to claim! I love love love this place! I've built good rapport with the nice old man, and the friendly ladies cooking it up in the back. To them, I must be known as "the guy who comes in alone all time and watches movies on his iPhone while he waits for his food guy". I'm starting to explore other items on their menu and not once have I ever been disappointed. Last week, I had their pork chop dish and asked if I could put an egg on top. Request granted! Awesome service =) And as usual, super ninja quick with the water refills! I'm glad this place received their "People on Yelp Love Us" sticker because people like me really do. Oh Pho Minh Thu, how I love you. I only have the pleasure of being in Honolulu once or twice a year, but when I am, you can find me at Pho Minh Thu what seems like every other day. I don't know if Toronto just has really crappy Vietnamese food, or if Pho Minh Thu really is as amazing as I think it is, but who cares. Equally perfect for a hangover, lunch or dinner, this is the place to go for a cheap, filling, satisfying meal. I always go for a medium pho with lots of tripe, or a vermicelli bowl (bun), my favourite being the Spring Rolls and Grilled Shrimp bun. The pho broth is very flavourful and the quantity and quality of meat is consistent. The noodles are perfect - thin and not mushy. The bean sprouts are fresh and clean too. The spring rolls...wow. SO ONO. Super crispy and just overwhelmingly delicious. Dip it in fish sauce and wrap it in fresh leaf lettuce and you've got yourself an appetizer you'll wish was your main course. The summer rolls are also great. The shrimp is large, the lettuce is crisp and the peanut sauce is perfect. It's always a hard decision to choose between the spring and summer rolls. Come with a few people so you can have BOTH! Now the star of the restaurant...the grilled shrimp. I know I said the spring rolls are so ono, but the grilled shrimp is a whole new level of ono. Never have I found shrimp so perfectly grilled, and I eat a lot of shrimp! Lightly charred for a smoky flavour and super moist and not at all rubbery. They're a nice size and they serve a good amount in the bun. Add some fish sauce and you'll be wondering how you'll go another day without eating this. The BBQ pork is also very well made. I actually don't like meat too much (weird, considering how much I love pho) but this pork is incredible. It's extremely flavourful and never tough. Like the shrimp, it's grilled to perfection. It's always a tough choice between the BBQ pork and the shrimp. The service seems a bit standoffish sometimes, but it depends on the day. It's not rude by any means but don't expect to engage in conversation. The restaurant is family owned and you can always hear the staff chatting in the kitchen, but it's not unpleasant. When you enter, you'll usually be met with a nod and a hand gesture to take any open seat. Orders are taken quickly and the food comes out quickly too. Water is usually refilled when the cups get empty, but I've occasionally needed to ask for more. Not a big deal. I've also had one occasion where I was given the wrong food. They were apologetic and quickly brought out the correct meal. Overall, nothing to complain about. I've come here so often that they actually started cracking occasional smiles at me. That was when I realized that I just might have an obsession with Pho Minh Thu. Not to worry though - it's pretty easy on the wallet! read more

You know, I don't understand why people think limes and lemons make a huge difference with the pho, and that jalapeño peppers have to come with every bowl, you're ignoring the fact you even came, which is to eat. Sitting in this restaurant I feel strange, jazz compositions of hit songs and the chatter of the employees, it's very homey and although a little off standish at first with a warm smile and a thank you the mood is completely melted. After receiving my meal and thanking the server graciously with a smile she offered the same reaction and seemed a bit taken aback it makes me realize that although it's common for Americans to think all food begins and ends with a smile it is untrue, customer service truly begins with the customer. The great part is amongst the flurry of sad reviews I was completely satisfied! The price, the flavor, even in the end the service was there. Thanks to yelp I have discovered another cheap eat close to my house. I really hate eating alone and hardly ever do it unless its at a coffee shop but I was feeling like eating solo so I went to Pho Minh Thu with a book in hand. There were actually three other people there eating by themselves so I didn't feel out of place. The waiter/owner (?) was really nice and took my order right away. I got the spring rolls and a small order of the #12. Beef round eye and meatballs. It was the perfect amount. The spring rolls ($5) were so good. There were four pieces. Not too oily and nice and crunchy! Served with two huge pieces of lettuce, cucumbers, and vermecelli noodles. The broth of the pho ($6.95) was tasty, filled with plenty of meat and served with a plate full of veggies. Its a laid back setting, great for a cheap and quiet meal. I've visited this restaurant a couple times since visiting here and both times were somewhat inconsistent. The first time we came, we had the pho dac biet and the vermicelli. I thought the vermicelli was mediocre, but had really enjoyed the taste of the pho broth. My second visit, I decided to order the pho hoping to enjoy another great tasting pho. Pretty decent Vietnamese food, for our tastes and we come from a town that has a vibrant Vietnamese population. I had the lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl. Was good, large chunks of chicken, flavored very well and actually didn't get to finish the whole meal. My partner asked to order only 1 spring roll and that was a no-go (I can't have shrimp), so he had to do a full order and they were large. The restaurant is small and they have free parking so that was a rarity in Honolulu. The menu looked good, lots of choices and would have no problem returning here. Me and my family visited Pho Minh Thu very frequently when we were in Hawaii 2 summers ago. I didn't have a Yelp or knew what Yelp was (don't kill me!) so I thought I should do a review now. Even though it was a while back I will never forget how yummy this place is! My sister keeps mentioning this place because it's so good! We were staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort so it was a 5 minute walk to Pho Minh Thu. We didn't know this place existed until we were looking for a place to do our laundry. My first impression was it was a bad location because it's hidden and the area it's located in looks kinda sketchy. We gave this place a try and we are now fans! I only ordered the rice with grilled chicken every time I went there...except on the last day of our trip I got fried rice. OMG! Their grilled chicken is the most delicious chicken I've ever had compared to any other Vietnamese restaurants...I'm not even exaggerating! Since I prefer grilled chicken over the pork chop, I just replaced the pork chop with another grilled chicken =). I didn't try anything else but my family ordered other things and they really enjoyed the food too. The server/owner may look "creepy" but he's really nice and provides good customer service. I have been craving Pho since moving to Honolulu and was really looking forward to this place being a repeat visit; however, after an encounter with who I believe to be the owner, I will not be returning. First off, the food isn't too bad, the jalapeños are not spice at all, and I much prefer lime than lemon with my pho. The soup was pretty flavorless without the addition of the various sauces on the table, which I usually add anyhow. Now my story. The server/owner gave me a menu which showed the price of a large bowl of pho was $10.25, upon checking out, I was charged $10.75. I brought this up to him and showed him the menu that says $10.25. His was immediately defensive, claiming that I was trying to rip him off, stating that everyone pays $10.75, and that is what the menu says. He then proceeded to show me a different menu with the $10.75 price and said the one he gave me wasn't correct. Let's pause for a moment and contemplate how this should've gone. He apologizes for the incorrect price, charges me $10.25, and takes the menu out of circulation until it's updated. Back to reality. I told him that there was no way for me to know the other menus had a different price and that he needed to honor the price advertised to me, he refused to do so and began raising his voice in frustration, stating that it's not that big of a difference in price. Obviously if it's not that big of a difference, then he should have just honored the price. He started raising his voice in frustration, so I just paid the $10.75 plus tax and left. The food was only ok compared to California. But the service was great, the staff was so so nice. We were all blown away, and they were not cheap with the veggie, and Thai basil. Most Asian restaurant are usually not known for their service.
