The bf and I had wanted to check out this restaurant for awhile. It's tough for me to give a thorough review on the place since I order whatever is vegetarian/vegan so I'll cover what we both thought. I ordered the Pho Tofu which was decent. It's nothing to write home about but at least there are two obligatory veg items on the menu. The Pho Tofu broth was definitely more flavorful than average (some just taste like water!) but it definitely could have used more depth of flavor. The other veg dish is the vermicelli bowl, which most places will also include a fried egg roll on top, but this place did not. You just get noodles and veggies. So for the vegetarians and vegans out there, there is something to order here, but don't expect to have your socks knocked off. This is one of those places where you can be relieved there's something on the menu for you so the people you're with don't feel guilty. Their fried egg rolls come stuffed with chicken, crab and shrimp as the only option. The person who took our order was very proud to note the quality of their ingredients and the bf confirmed that these were tasty. The size of the egg rolls are slightly larger than average. Pretty good for the value. The cashier did note that they may increase the price of the egg rolls in the future due to the fact that they are using quality ingredients. So enjoy these while you can! The bf had the grilled pork vermicelli bowl and didn't seem impressed. I believe it was partly because the price was higher than other Vietnamese restaurants, quality more or less standard, and flavor was "not bad" but not amazing either. He is more accustomed to the pickled veggies adding more of a contrast to the bowl to balance out the meat, but he said they sort of just got lost with all the other ingredients. I tried some of the veggies off to the side and they definitely were more mild in flavor. Not necessarily a bad thing, but they did have less tang than the veggies I've had in vermicelli bowls. We're glad we stopped by here as the restaurant is nice and clean, service was fast & friendly and there are TV's to watch games if they're on. As for what else is available in the area in terms of Vietnamese food, we'll probably be hitting those places up instead not because this place isn't good, but because we could be getting more value, options, and flavor. read more

10/18/19 It pains me to write this because I really wanted to love it here but sadly, I did not. Lots of parking and nice, modern decor makes this a very appealing restaurant. My husband and I ordered #4 & #5 pho and an order of fried egg rolls. My #5 had so much grizzle I could not eat the meat. The broth was basically beef broth with no depth of flavor like you would expect from pho. The fried egg rolls were bland and soggy. So disappointed. Pho Nation takes over the Sweethoney Dessert location in Newark. I was hungry this morning and thought about getting breakfast. As I looked on Yelp for what was open, this place popped up. I didn't realize it had already opened, so I decided to drop by. I arrived before 10am, but the open sign was turned on. I opened the door and asked if they were indeed open. They said come on in. The staff were friendly and hospitable as I looked at the menu. You order at the counter, and your food is delivered to your table. And the complimentary drinks (Water, Iced Tea, Hot Tea) is self service. I decided on the Pho Nation Combo #1 large. The interior still has the Sweethoney Dessert decor. However, there are four flatscreens, perfect on a football Sunday. The Pho was soon brought out. The Pho was tasty and filling. The broth was flavorful, helped out by the Jalapeño Peppers. Our go to restaurant was closed on Wednesdays so we desperately looked for another pho place that was 10 min away. We found this spot and I knew beforehand that my friend told me great things about this place. We walked in, tons of seating available and only one other couple was seated. We stood there awkwardly waiting to be seated and the worker just stared at us. Eventually she told us to order at the front first. She could've told us that when we stood there awkwardly instead of us waiting nearly 30 seconds, both of us staring each other down. So you order your foods at the front then sit down with the # marker placed on your table. The workers will bring the foods to you. I opted for the large beef ball and rare steak pho, and my fiance got the combo. He was disappointed they didn't have tendon - that is one item he looks forward the most in a pho dac biet. The prices were also pretty steep at $14-15/large. For the portion and quality, we weren't too pleased with our meals. We were hungry and thought this had to be somewhat decent. We got our foods pretty quickly in a large bowl. We thought the portions were huge since they came out in a very large bowl filled to the brim with broth but only to be disappointed that it was 80% soup and 20% everything else. What a deceiving bowl! The noodle portions were small and I was left hungry, adding the rest of my bean sprouts to satisfy my hunger. The soup at first taste was good, but after awhile it tasted super salty and lacked the depth of a bone broth with the proper seasonings. It just tasted like salty lightly beef broth to us. We've been seeing this place whenever we drive around this complex and finally decided to try their Pho soup Once you check-in, you've to go to the counter and order from the menu, and pay directly to the cashier. They gave you a number and you can sit wherever you want. The wait for the food is not long and takes maybe 5-10 mins for the food to arrive at your table. We ordered the chicken thigh Pho. The Pho soup is simple but they gave us a good portion of the chicken thighs. The chicken is cut into smaller pieces when served. I liked the flavor of the chicken but the pho soup needs more seasoning. I've to put a bit of oyster sauce on the soup to give me a flavor. I've been to several pho places but this one didn't give me a wow experience. On the other hand, the combination of shrimp, chicken, and beef is delicious. I loved the way it was cooked and the flavor was good. I should have tried their other combination instead of the pho I ordered. This has been my "go-to" pho spot since they've opened. Got to experience it before COVID happened and have been supporting this establishment ever since. Out of the pho restaurants in the area, Pho Nation has been the most consistent and provides the largest portion of noodles and proteins. We've order through yelp and have also called in our orders with no hiccups, issues, or language barriers. What struck me to write this review was what I saw during my latest visit. As I was going in to pick up my order, I saw another customer leaving with a bag of food in one hand and a drink tray in the other hand. As he was approaching his car, the drink tray completely gave away causing both drinks to drop and spill all over the parking lot. I could feel his heart ache and pain as he had no control of losing nearly $10 worth of drinks. As I waited in the social distance line to pay and pick up my order, that customer came back in and explained what happened. The guy behind the counter was actually empathetic and apologizing for the faulty tray. He stopped what he was doing and told that customer he'd take care of it right away. Bravo for that kind of customer service!!! So yeah... back to the food; feeling cold, lazy, hung over or just need a solid bowl of noods? Place an order for pho! Even though the broth is piping hot when you pick it up, I typically throw it in a pot and bring it to a boil and serve it over the noodles and rare steak so everything can cook through and the noodles can separate. My favorite Vietnamese place in the East Bay!! I came here pre-COVID and have ordered takeout from them multiple times during COVID. They were closed in November but they recently reopened and we are so happy! We definitely missed their food when they were closed... There is plenty of parking in the plaza and they had some tables right outside for outdoor dining previously. I usually order their #6 Rare Steak (which I order at every pho place basically) and there is soooo much pho noodles!! My SO likes to order their Pho Nation Combo #1 and there is so much food!! It doesn't fit into our regular bowls at home and we have to sometimes split it into two bowls or two meals! We have also tried their Fried Egg Rolls and those are always yummy! If I'm not feeling something warm and soupy, then I get their Grilled Chicken Vermicelli. That serving size is also huuuge and if I finish the whole thing, then I'm uncomfortably full... Everything is always super yummy and their serving size is super generous compared to other places in the area. We will always be back to support them during this time and of course, after COVID! Pho Nation has quickly become the new favorite pho spot for me and my family. I love that it's located at the Sprouts shopping center. The shopping center itself is always kept up and there's plenty of parking. You can walk up to the counter to place your order and pay or you can find your table and order from a QR code. Been here several times and had brought back more friends over the past few weeks because food isn't bad and it's right in our area. However, service is horrible, my wife ordered 2 large soup noodle for my kids who sat at a different table ( we have such a large group which took up 5 tables). A mistake was made and my kids ended up with 2 medium and my son had ordered 2 extra side plate of beef, we didn't argue about the wrong bowl size and just let it be. Later my son said his side plate of raw beef doesn't get cook too well because his bowl is smaller (medium) as opposed to a large which we actually ordered. So we asked the waitress for an extra small bowl of hot soup. She told us no she can't do that and we explained to her that she made a mistake and gave us a smaller bowl of soup which ended up not being hot enough to cook all 2 plates of raw beef. She told us she's not sure if that's her fault, so no. When she finally brought out a small bowl of soup, she reminded us that they don't normally offer free soup, so this will be a one time deal. Yay! I'm so glad I found a Pho place that is close by to pick up good Pho. I feel like Fremont doesn't have any, so I'm glad that this one is close enough! I was thrilled to see that they were opened during SIP for take out so I tried it for the first time and order a large #3 (Pho rare steak & beef balls) - 12.95 and a #1 large (pho nation combo) - $13.45. The noodles were perfect and I liked the flavor of their broth. The larges are actually larges and they didn't skimp out on the noodles or meat! Yay! A bonus for me was that their combo did not have tendons. I usually ask for no tendons when I order combos and I didn't have to ask for that this time! I also wanted to get their Vietnamese cold coffee to try and was impressed how big their to-go cup was for $4.50. It made me happy and wired hahaha Loved it. Service was good. Each time, my food is ready pretty quickly and arrives STEAMING HOT and fresh. Their pho is pretty standard, but tasty. They use high quality meats and the broth isn't too oily or old. However, I would really recommend of all the things to get here, to get the Vermicelli with the chicken, shrimp, and beef. IT IS SO DELICIOUS. All the meats are flavorful, the fish sauce is on point, and they add chili paste in a little cup for you to add to your liking. The serving size is ginormous - usually enough meat for two meals. The vegetables they put in are always cold, crunchy, and fresh and they even add some pickled radishes and carrots for extra crunch. I really like that dish and have ordered it twice. I've also tried their eggrolls which arrived piping hot and crunchy - very filling, very tasty, etc. I'm hungry now just thinking about it. I don't recommend the spring rolls - there were a ton of veggies in there and also like...a stick? Their dry dishes like the broken rice and vermicelli are super flavorful and the meat has a nice caramelized char on it. We like how the broken rice dish comes with a side of soup. Seriously, probably one of the best Pho restaurants I've ever been to. Place is super clean with friendly faces, and the food is rich yet effortless. Simple but delicious Pho and other classic Vietnamese dishes. Phenomenon. You can't go wrong with this place. We went here on a cold, rainy afternoon and everything from start to end was just so warm and inviting, the boiling hot and smooth tasting broth and yummy noodles, the fresh spring rolls and succulent shrimp and beef flanks. Delicious! Oh, they also serve free hot and iced tea. Sublime! By the way, as a side note, I just like to say that I enjoy eating healthy food and appreciate places that don't skimp on quality and freshness. I found the noodle soup dishes here to be plentiful tasty with rich herbs and flavors, but I can understand how some people would have habitual needs to enrich their daily dishes with more salt, hoisin or other spices for the sake of satisfying their tastebuds. It's not the traditional pho place where someone comes over to your table and takes your order. You go to the front, order, and pay. Pick a seat and they give you a number so they can bring your order. I like that a lot. The payment method is neat as well. You can pay with your credit card or Apple pay and also the good old cash method. The food came out quick. The broth was very flavorful and the meat was tender. I like it.
