They were great here. Really good customer service from the moment we walked in--the two people in the front were welcoming and greeted us right away. We asked if they were still accepting dine-in since they were closing in about 15 minutes, and we even offered to take our food to go. They insisted, "No, please stay because they still were cleaning up." They checked on us throughout the meal, made sure we were doing good, and asked if we needed anything else before they closed the kitchen. Even after they closed, they told us to take our time and no rush but we were almost done. The food was delicious! My daughter and I shared the meatball pho, and my husband ordered the chicken curry. At first, the coconut flavor in the curry tasted too strong, but once all the spices blended together--wow. That curry was incredible! Honestly, almost better than my grandma's chicken curry. They only offered rice or noodles with the curry. I wish there were baguettes! I was a little disappointed they were out of sandwiches, but that means we will have to come back and try them next time we're in town.

We always love coming here to Rice and Spoon after a long day out--especially on the weekends. There is always room and ample amounts of space. While we were eating a group of eight came in and were all accommodated, so definitely consider dining in. The crew here definitely run a tight ship, floors are always clean and tables are always wiped. I never had an issue with cleanliness here within the three years I've been here. As for their food? Just as good and consistent as the first time. Their Pho Tai is an electric shock for an exhausted body and tired soul. My girlfriend and I always feel so much better after eating here. Portion sizes are great--they never skimp on toppings, noodles, or garnishes. It's probably the equivalent to a size large elsewhere. Check out how much beef I was given in the photo. Last but not least service. The two cashiers are always welcoming and sweet upon arrival and food comes out piping hot each time. Rice and Spoon is one of the places I alwayssss recommend if anyone asks for good Pho around the East Bay and I highly recommend it here too.

A cute small vietnamese restaurant in an unpopulated area of Newark. It ended being ~$20 for a bun rieu after tax and tips but I enjoyed it. I like the white pork and crab paste. The broth is clear and tasty but lacking tomato flavor that I usually experience elsewhere. I was craving for that sourness.

I couldnt eat pho as much because the carbs would kill me now, but I made an exception. This place is tucked in a corner before the main part of Newark up the street. The place is hella clean and the service is hella fast. You can order from the ipad or from the person directly. They dont have hella condiments, just sriracha and sauce. It doesnt need it. Overall it was good and filling! Hidden gem for real.

My classic beef pho was tasty. However,I found the broth to be a bit oily and greasy on the top. The spring roll was refreshing with the peanut sauce. The service was attentive and the food came out promptly. I also loved how they had tablets to place your order as well as physical menus. Pretty modern overall

Big bread and small inside portion. Bread is hard.

Lots of bread and little portion. The bread is hard and dry. Will not be going back. Was a first experience.

First time going to this place. We ordered the slice grill pork w/ vermicelli, it was good and the price is not bad. Service was fast and the place is clean. Definitely will be back.

    Spicy Beef Noodle Soup

Small restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. We stopped here on a cold day when craving a hot bowl of pho. The spicy beef noodle was very flavorful and my partners mixed beef bowl was also very flavorful. We chose to dine-in but the appetizer came out far after our pho bowls. While waiting, it seems the kitchen is pretty disorganized and with only one person taking orders, it felt chaotic. Overall, I feel the food is good, but not extra special compared to other restaurants in the area. It's also a little more highly priced, around $17-20 per bowl. Still, we're willing to give it another chance on a winter day.

I wanted to go to this place based on the design and food. The food and service is great, but the problem is how the inside of the restaurant. It feels bland inside due to the choice of colors and there are hardly any decorations. It also feels hot inside too, but it's probably because of the hot weather outside. There are rarely seatings here due to the size of the place. I really like the Pho, however. I wouldn't really wanna dine here due to atmosphere. Maybe next time, I'll just do a takeout.

The best ViOur family loves pho and all kinds of Vietnamese dishes and this is the best Vietnamese pho place. We went to other pho places in Fremont, San Jose and none can compare to Rice and Spoon.

We got the #7 and #2, and our food and drinks arrived surprisingly fast. The service was excellent--the woman who helped us was very kind and welcoming. However, the quality and service needs improvement. As soon as my family and I arrived, the cashier lady expected us to be ready to order. There were no other customers in line. I wanted to get the Vietnamese mung bean layered cake aka Bánh Da Lợn, but they only had the Pandan jello aka Thạch Rau Câu Lá Dứa. When I was ready to order, the lady just stood there standing and then said ready now (sounding somewhat annoyed)! I ordered a ham combo sandwich and an avocado smoothie for my kids. I asked if they used a lot of sugar and opted to lessen the sugar amount if possible. She did not offer the sugar percentage and just walked over to start making the avocado smoothie. Then a customer came in and she stopped to greet him, took his order, then finished our avocado smoothie. The avocado smoothie was smooth and creamy but not very enjoyable as it lacked flavor. My kids drank only a few sips and we ended up tossing almost an entire drink even after saying it was like avocado "ice-cream". It was a hot day too. The sandwich took a while to come out considering they had more than four staffs in the back (you could see the kitchen from the front register), but they still moved very slow. Some of them were just chilling and staring at the front of the store. The French bread was fresh and tasty though. They did not add much filling except for carrots and radish. Limited meat, pate sauce, and barely taste the aioli. Sandwich was still good with the classic, traditional Vietnamese sandwich taste but the one in San Jose did not skip on the quantity in ingredients like they did in this location. Our jello ended up have a mold growing so we did not try it. Texture looked solid though. We also bought the pork sausages which were tiny but tasty. Duc Huong for sure wins in all three categories for sandwiches, pork sausage, and having the Pandan layered cake I liked. Overall, this was still a decent place to get Vietnamese sandwiches. Going in with less expectations would make the experience better. They had a large table seating so customers could eat inside or order meals like a normal restaurant.

Their bánh mì is simple in the best way: really good bread, the perfect amount of meat, and a generous amount of fresh, crunchy veggies. I also tried nem chua for the first time, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I thought it was really yummy. Next time, I definitely want to try their shrimp rice rolls. So we make dad choose where to eat for lunch (since he's in early stages of dementia). We walk in and one of the gals working greeted my FIL by name, only to find out he was a regular here over the years! Menu is simple and sandwiches are affordable ($8). Me and my wife go with plate lunches which you pick an items you want from what is currently available behind the serving window. And their serving portions are generous. My wife had the squid and a mixed vegetable dish while I ordered the grilled marinated chicken and shrimp both plates come with rice (steamed or fried). Each dish is nicely seasoned with your typical Asian flavors and had a home-cooked style and taste. My FIL ate half his sandwich quickly and enjoyed his Asian mix-mix drink with jellies & coconut. Pho VN is located in one of Union City's popular Asian cross street malls, sharing a large parking lot with other outstanding eateries. The space inside the restaurant is large and can comfortably fit small and large parties alike. Reminiscent of the classic Vietnamese restaurants in this area, you'll find each table stocked with utensils, napkins, and sauces and staff scurrying around with bowls or trays of them toward their hungry patrons. As we walked in, we were motioned to sit at any of the open tables; the staff greeted us with menus and got us started with waters. Their menu is comprehensive and includes all your Vietnamese staples including popular appetizers like spring/egg rolls, noodle dishes like pho and vermicelli, rice plates, and delicious iced drinks featuring the traditional phin filtered Vietnamese coffee. For the pho bowls, you'll have the option of a medium or large portion with the primary difference being the amount of noodles you'll get and a slightly smaller protein portion. I ended up getting a large and it was plenty filling but the medium seemed reasonable as well. With each bowl, you'll get a platter of bean sprouts and basil leaves to spruce up your meal. Highly recommend dumping those in right when you get the steaming hot bowl! I also ended up getting an ice coffee - the flavor was strong and balanced out as the ice melted. It was a delicious indulgence! When it came time to pay, we did so up front at the register. They are cash only but I believe cash apps are also accepted. The staff were quick, friendly, and thorough in their service. You'll have a pleasant time here with your party and minimal interruptions from the staff unless you're looking to refill on waters. Overall, Pho VN checks all the boxes for when you're craving a hot bowl of pho and meaty pieces to go with those bites. I haven't had a chance to try their other dishes yet but this location is conveniently located, easy to get to and park, and accessible to other activities and eateries nearby making it very likely I'll be back soon! This watering hole will surely host someone you know if you're a local and if not, get to know the owners as I hear they have origins in the community!
