This is my go-to Pho spot. It's also conveniently located near my apartment. Now, I've never eaten here. I've only ordered carry out. I call in my order and it's usually ready within 10 minutes. The staff is super efficient and polite. By the time I go home and prepare to eat, my soup is always hot and ingredients are super fresh it's just so comforting and yummy! Also, what I love is their Summer Rolls! They make them with chicken verses the typical pork. Don't get me wrong, I love me some pork... I'm Filipino. But for some reason I do not favor summer rolls with pork. (Typically, I have to order them without but in this case, I don't have to). Now for pho, I get #9: the round steak and brisket. My parents and I were in the area and we decided to give this place a try. You have the option of choosing between a regular bowl or a large bowl. The regular bowl provided just the right amount of satisfaction in terms of size. We tried the beef pho with tripe, beef flank, beef meatballs, and thinly sliced round steak. Sadly, they honestly skimped a lot on the toppings. The broth was tasty and the service was mostly friendly. I was just disappointed with the skimping of the toppings. I wrote a review on this place when it was formerly Pho 99. I liked it back then and nothing has changed, now that it has a new name. The staff is the same, the prices are similar, and they've actually added some items to the menu. As far as pho goes, I usually frequent Super Pho when I'm in the Herndon area because of its larger portions, its sate sauce, and the sweet iced jasmine iced tea (which is one of my favorite drinks). However, Pho New is my 2nd favorite in the Herndon area, and now that I know you can ask them for a small dish of sate sauce here as well, it's grown on me even more. Since becoming the Duchess of this pho noodle shop, I felt the need to defend my newly anointed kingdom. I've been coming to this place for years because it's convenient, fast and well... it's convenient and fast. If you compare it to Pho 75 on Wilson Blvd (aka the shop that inspired the pho shop naming convention..99, 2000, Pho 9 & 3/4, etc), then no... the pho could not compare. However, after reading some of the not so stellar reviews, I expanded my pho noshing range to satisfy my curiosity about some of the other shops. Here's what I discovered: 1) Pho 2000 is a small, musky space that smells like old shrimp. All their pho have basic meat combinations except for one option that includes everything. Unfortunately, it also includes these processed meatballs that have the texture of hard rubber bologna. 2) Pho Royal has a good broth but their noodles were completely melded into one super noodle ball. I kept jabbing it with my chop sticks to try teasing the noodles apart but they only broke into little pieces until my pho bowl looked like the noodles from those instant Campbell Chicken Noodle soup packets. Also, their side veggie garnishes were totally wilted. 3) Pho 9 & 3/4, I don't remember. I think I dreamt it but I wasn't much impressed. So after all this, I was happy to return to my Pho 99 (aka Pho New) kingdom. Their broth is decent, not stellar, but pretty good. I don't know if it's because of my newly acquired Duchess title but I've been getting noticeably yummier pho lately. Also, they offer plenty of different combinations. Their meats are tender, the noodles are always a good consistency and don't break apart (sign of pretty fresh noodles), the tendons are the perfect texture, the tripe is generally good but sometimes inconsistent and the garnishes are always crisp and fresh. However, I would definitely recommend the large bowl since the noodle/broth/meat ratio is well balanced. Their small bowl seems to lack in the meat portions. Another major plus for me is they garnish their Cha Gio (fried summer rolls) with green leaf lettuce instead of iceberg which is my preferred lettuce for making Cha Gio lettuce wraps. The staff are always polite, kind and not too chatty. All in all, a nice spot to grab a quick hot bowl of pho when I'm on the go or too tired to cook. read more

I've been here maybe 4-5 times. The pho is delicious, the service is terrible. They get BUSY during lunch sometimes. There was once, there was a big table and you could just see them staring at the waiters because they hadn't gotten served. Every single time I go in (never fails), the lady that works there is a jerk. Sorry, but she is. She rolls her eyes and huffs and puffs when ordering. I went last week, only because I do love their pho, and I told my friend that she hates me. She came over and before I even said the number, her eyes rolled to the back of her head. When my friend tried to pay by card, she stuck the "minimum card order" order sign in her face. Lady needs to get a grip. I would avoid this place and go to Super Pho down the street. In my never-ending quest to satisfy my cravings for Pho Ga, a group of four of us from work went in here yesterday for some yummy, steaming bowls O' Pho! Being that is was soooo cold and windy out, it was a great choice! I ordered the small bowl of Pho Ga, while my dining companions had various other iterations of Pho. I loaded up on bean sprouts and jalapenos, plus basil and lime juice and a fair squirt of Sriracha Sauce. Mmmmmmmmm! Was excellent! There was a fair crowd in the place at lunch time. had high hopes for this place after reading all the reviews. Wasn't impressed. Ordered a regular #4 bowl of pho. -broth was sweeter than I'm used to and had a kind of heavy spice taste... like maybe allspice or cinnamon... so you may or may not like that, it was okay, but not my favorite -really skimpy on beef, only a few pieces. pretty sure it was the least amount of meat I've had at ANY pho place and I've been to quite a few -the noodles seemed a little harder to manage, almost like they were thinner and more grouped together than what I'm accustomed too. not really an issue, just an observation. tasted fine. anyhow. my real complaint is the lack of meat and the broth being sweet are the reasons for the "meh" rating. The nice things were the friendly staff and the place was cleaner than other pho places I've been to. Had more of a restaurant feel to it and less of a pho dive feel. I eat here at least once a month and my favorite is No17. White meat of chicken small. Everytime without fail the order taker asks me - is meat broth fine. They also have vegetable broth for hard core vegetarians. THe standard consistency has always been the same. No formalities here, as soon as you enter magically someone notices and points you to the table to sit at. Very efficient service, you can go in and out pretty quickly. On a recent business trip, I learned that the Herndon area is blessed with a number of Vietnamese pho restaurants. Unfortunately, I had time to try only one. Fortunately, the one, Pho New, was terrific. Unlike many Vietnamese restaurants where I'm from (Michigan), Pho New has an abundance of vegetarian items. They made me a summer roll with tofu instead of shrimp. The intense brown sauce that came with was heaven. Spring rolls were crispy with a small kick. Mango bubble tea was a sweet, thick delight. And the vegetarian pho was warming and savory, with lots of noodles, vegetables and fried tofu and sweet basil, peppers and bean sprouts on the side. Many years ago, I remember getting wonderful, substantial noodle soup in Japan. I have not had anything quite like it until the other night here. Pho New is what you'd expect from any pho place. We ordered the summer rolls which were tasty and freshly fried. True to form, I ordered my vermicelli with pork, complete with MORE summer rolls. It was all pretty standard and the pork, while not bad, wasn't particularly marinated/flavorful as I've had elsewhere. But, if you're in the area, this is a decent place to get your vermicelli fix. This is my favorite pho spot! The food is always amazing. They have great service and a relaxing atmosphere.

Their broth is decent and would hit the spot on a cold day or if you're feeling a little under the weather. There was a good amount of noodles too. I was hoping the brisket would be seasoned, but it was a little chewy and bland. I tried to remedy that with lime and sriracha, but ended up using too much lime. Next time I'll try it with the meatballs with a side of flank steak, maybe that'll be better. I'm a fan of the bun though. I suppose there isn't much you can do to mess up this dish, but Pho New is pretty solid. read more

Pho New is an all over decent restaurant. The prices are great, and the food arrives at your table quickly. My husband ordered a Large #1, and I ordered a Small Chicken (white meat). The broth is flavorful, and had a large portion of noodles inside. The portions are smaller than other restaurants (Super Pho is the restaurant that immediately comes to mind for large bowls), but I feel that the price reflects that. It's a great place to eat with friends or on your lunch break, but definitely wouldn't recommend it for a date with someone. Possible areas of improvement: Forks are provided in a plastic cup on the table. If you're not chopstick savvy, you'd have to use a fork from the questionably clean cutlery cup. I personally wouldn't want to use a fork from a cup that numerous children and adults had access to. It's not the most cleanly way to provide cutlery to customers. The customer service could use some improvement; mainly in the communication aspect. Overall, I enjoy eating at this restaurant and would go again. read more

Just making a point that this Pho restaurant has become my go-to spot. I've gone here multiple times for the last few years. It has been consistently hot, noodles seem fresh and it seems to be the same family working the restaurant. I also get the summer rolls and sometimes the spring rolls (which always come out hot). I've tried the wings and their 7 treasure dish before, nothing fancy so that's not a plus or negative... just stick with the pho HAHA. I may also be partially bias because the meat portions with the pho dish are PLENTY (which I enjoy haha). Never seen any cleanliness issues so this has become my go-to spot. I just wanted to note, I gave this restaurant 5 stars, not because they are a 5 star restaurant, nor did their food impress me, nor was it above par. I gave it 5 stars because some pho restaurants in this area are pretty dirty, lukewarm food, and I saw a roach in one of the pho restaurants in this area. I quickly looked as it darted across my summer roll and the waiter saw me looking, so you knew they knew. So please don't go here expecting something great, go here because they are consistent. Not sure if this is a positive or negative thing for the Pho restaurants in this area haha. AND YES the service is can be very slow if they are busy. DO NOT expect fast service. I've been there a few times to try different dishes but was never really impressed. The soups are good but have an aftertaste. The springrolls have a wierd aftertaste as well. the staff isnt very welcoming, they go around the restaurant with carts full of dirty dishes and leave them there for a while, which is not super appealing. The positive part is that tthe service is very fast if you are in a rush. You can be in and out within 20-30 min top if you need to. This is an OK value for money considering it is pretty cheap. It's hard to screw up a dish as basic as Pho and, to its credit, Pho New (one of a billion pho places with a punny name) doesn't do that. The soup comes out hot and steamy with a plate of the standard vietnamese-American fixings. Like most Pho places, you pay at the register. Broth is a little underseasoned IMHO and they aren't very generous with the meat. Waiters take awhile to get your attention and I said "hi" to one after he made eye contact with me and he said "what do you want?" Weird and a bit rude. AND to make it worst, My crispy egg rolls did not come with fish sauce. That completely ruined the meal for me, at least make one thing right!! The egg rolls weren't even good, they were so bland. How can you screw up your "authentic pho", the broth just didn't taste right. I don't know what it was, it tasted watered down. Been here a few times. Another case of 'Great food but lousy customer service'. Today was especially bad. My friend and I went there for lunch today, sat down, and no one so much as acknowledged us for a good 15 minutes. And they never did because we walked out. They even took the order of some people that got in AFTER us. This place is always slammed at lunch, so I'm doubting cashflow is a problem. They simply don't want to hire more people. They're trying to pinch pennies for the sake of it at the expense of their reputation. They had 1 person both cashing people out and taking orders. And 1 other guy just bussing tables. The equation here is real simple. Bigger place + more business = more help needed. Went to Pho 2000 at World Gate and we got seated, orders were taken, and had our food within 7 minutes. Much smaller place, but they were busy as well. No excuse for such awful customer service. We will not be back. read more

Three stars for rich, hearty broth and huge portions at a bargain! Service is adequate (though you should approach the servers yourself at the counter to let them know if you need a refill or if you'd like the check) with no frills and quick delivery of what you ordered. The atmosphere is clean and very casual, bordering "divish", but for less than $10 per capita no one could expect white tablecloth. It's Pho and as far as i can tell pho is meant to be served casual. As such, I expect most pho restaurants look much like a cafeteria...and so far the ones in NoVA prove the point. The flavor of the traditional pho is hearty and complex IMO, and compares favorably to my relatively limited pho dining experiences in DMV area. My mother likes the seafood pho here and attests to its rich, briny goodness. Although I didn't grow up eating Pho, I'm fast becoming a fan and extoll its merits to friends and colleagues regularly. I find the ratio of meat to noodles quite balanced here and enjoy the rich layers and meaty palate of the broth especially on a cold, rainy day. The portions of "trimmings" (bean sprouts, Thai basil, Limes, and jalapeño peppers) are not as generous as at Pho 75 on Elden street, but Pho New offers a bit more meat per serving. It all balances out in the end to a satisfying and filling meal of Vietnamese comfort food, totally economical, especially gratifying during the drizzle of late fall and winter---plus the efficient service and instant food order delivery makes it accessible even for short lunch hours or a super quick dinner. read more

I've been meaning to try this place out. When it was the old name, I was boycotting it. They had pissed me off too many times. Well we came here for lunch. We were seated right away. We got our menus and water was brought to us. I ordered a large #1 as did my friend. Our bowls came out pretty fast. The bowl was steaming hot and had a nice aroma to it. I took a sip first and it tasted pretty good. The flavors weren't too strong, but not bland. I'm a purist for Pho, so I don't add the hoisin sauce or hot sauce to make it taste better. I enjoy the bowl when the broth is good. After all, isn't that the main part of the bowl? Noodles were not clumped together. The only beef I have with them is the amount of meat inside the bowl. There didn't seem to be a lot of it in there, and I don't think I got everything they listed. Oh well, I just ate it up as I was hungry. Service was good as we got our water filled up a couple of times. I'd come back here again to see if the small amount of meat was a fluke. Besides this place is super close to my office. read more

Once again while at work, I was faced with a dilemma on where to go for lunch. The only thing I was certain about, was that I wanted to try something completely different from my normal selections (thanks @Darren N.). Upon much deliberation I finally decided that I would try giving Vietnamese food a shot. So I decided that I would give this place a try. I would like for all readers to be aware of two things while reading this review: 1.) I am "NO" pho expert (seeing as this was my first time ever trying this type of dish) 2.) I got the order to go. I think that number two should play a big part in how this review is interpreted. After getting my pho to go and then getting back to the office, only to realize that I would have to construct the pho meal myself, I immediately realize that getting my order to go was an idiot ideal (all I could do was laugh at myself, especially because of be aware item number one above......lol). So while sitting at my cube looking at all my ingredients that I had, I wasn't quite sure what was what and what items needed to be put together to construct the perfect pho. I pretty much end up putting the broth in a bowl (which was still nice and hot) and added all the other ingredients I had (not sure if that is official pho, but at least I tried everything...lol) to that bowl. Well after having constructed my own pho, my verdict was in. And the verdict was that it was "A-OK" with me. I can't say that this was the best prepared pho (because I had to prepare it myself) but I did get a chance to try all the ingredients....lol. I guess I'll end my review saying that, the rating on this review could of been swayed either, to the left or right, if my decision on where to eat would have been different. I'm going to go with an A-OK rating for Pho New, as this experience was my very first Pho/Vietnamese cuisine experience, and I'm definitely looking forward to many more in the future. I don't want to jump the gun here and get too excited about my rating until I have other pho-nomenal experiences with which to compare to Pho New. I came here for lunch with two other colleagues. I was happy that the menu included photos of most items, including the Vietnamese names for the dishes, and a fairly complete description in English of what the dish entailed. My two dining companions opted for the Combo, which included a spring or summer roll, a small-size bowl of any Pho (they both did the fried tofu and loved it), and a soda, all for about $10. Not bad at all. Being the spice fiend that I am, I scouted out the Bun Bo Hue, as it promised spicy beef in a spicy beef broth, for about $10. When the waitress (who was actually friendly and didn't chastise me to my face when I needed help preparing my condensed milk coffee - YUM) brought out my bowl-o-beef, I was blown away by its sheer size. LEFTOVERS FOR DAYS. I felt like I had been forewarned by other Pho-lovin' Yelp friends' reviews about the potential saltiness of a bowl-o-Pho, but I found my Bun Bo Hue to be neither too salty nor too mild, although it did need several squirts of sriracha and spoonfuls of red chili paste to meet my needs. The noodles were really soft and yielding to the bite without being mushy, and the slices of beef were thin, easy to pick up, and weren't rubbery or over-done. I really enjoyed the scallions and flavoring of the complex broth, and I had a blast adding to my bowl from the plate of garnishes we were given: lots of bean sprouts, fresh-sliced jalapeno peppers (YAY), fresh basil, and fresh lime (very juicy). I liked the divey atmosphere; after all, Pho New is located in Herndon's Clocktower Shopping Center, where you DON'T come for white table cloth dining, but you DO seek out for global cuisine, a drive-thru Starbucks, and a Goodwill experience. It wasn't made clear to us, but you approach the counter in the back if you want water/drink refills, need a to-go container (likely), and need to pay. This setup is nice once you're aware of how it works, as it allows a table of co-workers/friends to pay separately. As a side note, the leftover Bun Bo Hue the next day was delightful - even cold. The broth had thickened and grown more spicy, and the noodles were still yummy. Oh, and I still have some leftover. Not bad for a $13 dollar lunch (that includes the coffee, tax, and tip). read more

If it wasn't for the fairly generous portion of food and crispy pho salad (thai basil, string beans, jalapeno slices, lime wedges), I would've rated this place 2 stars. PHO (3 stars): Just OK. I would only eat pho here again as last resort, but definitely not my go-to place. BUN BO HUE (2.5 stars): The bowl is missing half of all the meat that should be in it. Broth is close to bland. It's a little depressing that the people running this shop are from 'Hue' part of VN yet they havn't mastered their own dish. EGG ROLLS (4 stars): Oh that's right, they're called spring rolls in the east coast. Anyways --YUM. Fresh, perfectly deep fried to a golden crisp, and with all the right ingredients tucked inside.
