After a string of underwhelming pho experiences in Honolulu, Pho Que Huong was a game-changer. From the moment I opened their exhaustive menu--seriously, it's like 15 pages of culinary delights--I knew I was in for something special. We ordered chicken feet salad, pho roll, imperial rolls, nem rolls, combination pho, and butter garlic chicken wings. Each dish was a headnodder. The food and service are amazing! This local spot seems to be adorned by the customers based on the ambiance of the restaurant. The interior looks like your typical Asian style restaurant. I ordered a coffee with some pho (forgot the ##, this review was drafted for a while) and the rest of my party ordered pho as well. We ate our meal to completion! As well as pho, we tried their fried chicken and another appetizer. Our food was amazing and the waiters were very polite. I am afraid to post this review in fear of this place becoming even more popular than it is. This place is always crowded because the food cannot be beat. They have a very extensive menu consisting of all the usuals, but unusual items as well. Everything I have tried have been delicious. The thing I love most about this place is they do not skimp on meat and other ingredients. I hate it when I get pho and there is not enough meat for me to eat every bite of noodles with. Have tried the following: Combo Pho- good Summer roll - refreshing Nem roll - good but not as good as summer roll Bun bo hue- filling but have had better places Banh cuon- I think the only place on the island where I've found it served. I liked eating it in the south bay but never knew of a place in Hawaii that served it til now. Banh xeo- had better wouldn't get it here again. Sunday dinner with the fam... this place was recommended by a friend. Called to make reservations for our party of 10... it's BYOB and parking available on the street or in building behind restaurant (enter from Beretania St). Restaurant is surprisingly big upon walking in... first time here. Menu is quite extensive - perfect for our large group with different cravings. We ordered different dishes to taste. Flavors are nice, clean, enjoyable. Portions of some dishes were impressive - especially the Vietnamese Crepe and fried noodles (huge and sharable). We also enjoyed the drinks - sugarcane juices were refreshing, and Vietnamese coffee was strong/good. I love pho, but finding a really good bowl can be a challenge. My mom actually introduced me to this spot, and now it's one of our go to places whenever we're craving pho! The quality is great without breaking the bank, and their drinks are just as delicious. Depending on the day, there might be a wait, but that just proves how popular they are. Decent Vietnamese restaurant located in Chinatown. There is a paid parking lot across the street. The first time I went here, I tried the steak and eggs. I do not recommend this dish because the steak was dry, and there was no paté - disappointing dish overall. The Chè Thái I don't recommend, either. While it tasted good, there was only one piece each of lychee, jackfruit, and longan. They skimp out on the fruit and fill the rest of the cup with jellies and water chestnuts. I really enjoyed the mi kho. The flavor was great - not too salty or sweet. The egg noodles were cooked well, and there was a good amount of seafood and sauce. We moved to Hawaii 3 years ago from LA. We have been trying to find authentic viet food here and was always disappointed in the lack of flavors and authenticity. We finally came across this place and was completely shocked on how AMAZING the food is here. It is so comparable to all the viet restaurants back home in WestMinster. It's bright spacious and quick service.. I placed a takeout order not knowing you could dine in. When asked to switch she said it was near closing time which it was.. I ordered the vegetable pho in beef broth... baby let me tell you.. I had to wait 10mins for my Lyft to arrive then another 17mins to get to my hotel and this food was PIPING HOTT!!! The food was good but the service is lacking which is why I gave this place three stars. This restaurant was packed and it wasn't even 12 noon yet. It looked like where all of the locals ate. I had the spring roll, pork with rice vermecelli dish and my dining companion had the pho with beef and tripe. He liked it a lot and my dish was tasty. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee and my dining companion ordered a drink. We didn't get our drink until halfway through our meal until I reminded the waitress. She said she forgot. Our waitress never came back to our table to see if we needed anything else. We always had to ask for her. The kicker came at the end when we got our bill. You need to look over your bill since there were food that we didn't order. She had to fix it and said I don't know who did that? She fixed our bill and we left. Everything was below average. The coffee was nasty. The bun Bo hue was not good. The soup was bland and the meat was flimsy. The noodles were not a good texture. They did put tendon in it and that was my favorite part of the whole bowl. The pork foot you usually get in bun Bo hue was pathetic. The banh canh cua didn't have any crab in it. Came in on a Thursday at 10 in the morning because we had a hankering for a banh mi breakfast. I'm surprised at how many people were already dining there at this time. We ordered the original Vietnamese ham one, which comes with pate, and mayo, along with the typical banh mi accoutrements. The bread was everything, which in my opinion is one of the most (if not the most important) component of a banh mi. It was fresh and perfectly toasted. I also loved that they didn't skimp on any of the filling, meat or otherwise. One of my banh mi pet peeves is when the sandwich is only half-filled with meat. We also had an order of the cha gio. They use regular egg roll papers as opposed to rice roll, which I usually don't like. But for some reason, I wasn't mad at it. Probably because the filling was so good. I also appreciated the side of vermicelli noodles and that the spring rolls came with plenty of veggies on the side. For drinks, we had the Thai iced tea and Vietnamese iced coffee. The Thai iced tea was straight sugar but the iced coffee was the perfect level of sweetness vs. bitterness. Drinks are pricey though. They will run you almost $5 a pop and it's mostly ice, which was a little annoying. I wish I got to try some of their other menu items. I've come to this Vietnamese restaurant over the years under 2 different names. The most recent was Pho Que Huong after a name and probably an ownership change within the last 3 or so years. Most of the time I come here with co-workers for lunch during special occasions, like my birthday this year (mid September) and Christmas luncheon in 2023. Just remembered to file a review under the current restaurant name. With that said, both experiences here in 2023 was good and uneventful. The problem was that either they are a little too popular or my party and i arrived in the thick of lunch service. It was busy and the ambiance was lively, a lot of people talking and the servers were hustling. It was busy both times I was here but we got a table within 5 or so minutes. We usually sit near the Maunakea street entrance, but time to time, we generally hit where there is a clean table that can hold up to 6 people at a time. The service is generally swift even during the busy lunch rush. I would estimate maybe 20 minutes after you order, you'd get your food. Usually appetizer would come out first before your entree, but sometimes, both at the same time. The service here is generally okay and friendly too. The restaurant itself is small but can fit probably 50 people at one time. For the most part though, having Pho in Chinatown is a sure thing here in Honolulu these days but having Pho at Pho Que Huong is even better. Pro tip is to come early and avoid the lunch rush. I wish we did but there's always next year to be smarter on the timing! Still the food was good and delicious. Ambiance is good but felt rushed since it was during the work week and not a weekend. Oh well. The overall experience here at Pho Que Huong was as good yet average as you can get at the same time. I normally have the summer rolls as the appetizer and a large combination Pho for the entree. Usually that fills me up to the max especially when the broth is prepared really earthy and rich. I always enjoyed the traditional rice noodles that come with Pho, but this location has egg noodles which is available upon request. I think they up-charge for that request but it can supercharge your Pho meal experience to an entire new level. I got those egg noodles and it made a difference. The only thing that's troubling or at least concerning was that they didn't bring out the traditional vegetables: basil, bean sprouts, and jalapeño slices after they brought out the food. Usually they would bring out the vegetables beforehand. Maybe it's because they were too busy but still. But as it turns out, it was a good meal with co-workers as it can be. Good food and good company celebrating my bday here in September 2023 and for Christmas 2023. Best to call ahead and see what you can do to secure a table before the mad lunch rush. It's one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in the Chinatown area of Honolulu. Hidden gem possibly but I can recommend this one to anyone and everyone who loves Pho and can't get enough of it. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, they are connected to a parking garage. The restaurant's back door leads to the parking garage's 2nd level, I believe. The parking is timed so I don't know if validating parking is useful or not. I don't drive so I'm not really familiar with the whole parking thing. If you love public transportation, many bus routes pass thru Chinatown via N Beretania, N Hotel, or N King Streets. You'd need to choose the ones that stop at or near the restaurant for the best experience possible. I've always enjoyed Pho and the staff here at Pho Que Huong Vietnamese restaurant makes it as easy as possible. Just probably busy that makes it a little bit more frustrating than normal but it was good and homely as you can get with homemade Pho. The prices are okay, but seems to be increasing with everything else on Oahu and statewide. And so, if you want your Pho fix or something else that will make your daily feel better, consider coming here to this Vietnamese restaurant. I felt like having pho and decided to give Pho Que Hyuong a try. I walked in to order takeout and got the large pho tai (eye round streak) and BBQ pork banh mi. I was told it would only be a few minutes. After a good 10 minutes a worker asked what my order was. I waited longer and saw an order be put on a table in front and a few more minutes passed before they realized that was my order. That left a bad impression and it was before peak lunch hour. The cashier apologized for the long wait. Enough with the bad and on to the good. The pho came with a lot of meat which I appreciate as I often wish there was more. The taste was good though I bet it would be better dining in. The real stand out was the BBQ pork banh mi. Flavor of the pork is so good. I would go back just to get that sandwich again. We stumbled across this place when trying to find another pho place, in China town. This place was recommended by a local and we had to try. The ambience was very quiet and relaxing, and very clean. It smelled clean, but good. Service was great, it was 2 ladies that delivered the food all at once. I love when places do that, you don't feel awkward when trying to get the food all out. So this was a plus for me. I had the Specialty Pho, Oxtail with a side of meatballs. And my daughter had the large bowl of Beef Pho. We didn't add no spices or seasoning. I don't gate keep but if I did... I would have definitely kept this place a secret. Located in Chinatown, Honolulu, Pho Que Huong has the most authentic and delicious Vietnamese food on the island (that I've tried so far). Local and family owned joints like Pho Que Huong is part of what makes our Chinatown so special. The menu is extensive and there are some dishes that you simply don't see often and admittedly so, there are a few dishes not for the faint of heart. My non-negotiables that I will always order, or have someone I'm dining with order is the combination pho and the Bánh xèo, or "Vietnamese crepe". What really sets these two dishes apart are all the fresh herbs that accompany them. The pho for example has such a rich, deep, and flavorful broth (that can only be achieved with time) and the fresh basil, mint, and lime adds a brightness that's absolutely refreshing. Bánh xèo isn't super common in a lot of Vietnamese restaurants, but essentially it is basically a fried rice flour savory crepe. It's crispy and filled with bean sprouts, shrimp, and pork belly. The Bánh xèo here is HUGE and comes with a ton of fresh herbs, lettuce, and pickled vegetables. Adventurous eaters will love their Bun Bo Hue with pig's blood cake or their beef testicle pho. There is even a whole dedicated page on their menu for all things goat. Another really unique offering they have here are Vietnamese style hot pot. They have a pho hot pot for $50 that can be shared between 2-4 people. Sharing a big pot of soup and adding the ingredients as you go is such a unique communal experience that I personally love. There are quite a few family style dishes ranging from soups, vegetables dishes, and whole fish. Pho Que Huong is a great spot for families and get-togethers. When I came in, there was a group of 10+ eating together and celebrating a graduation. The ambience does give off a very homey vibe while also being bright and clean. The food here is so good, that you almost expect it to be more grimey. The only con is that parking can be difficult.
