Fried Calamari
Beth A.

This restaurant is within a strip mall in Crystal Lake, with plenty of parking spaces, and it's much bigger inside than it looks like from the outside. We came here for dinner on a weeknight, and we were seated quickly. We loved the 3-4 robots that help bring your drinks and food to your table, we enjoyed that they all had different voices and were quite polite! The human staff were also very helpful, there was just one staff member managing the tables, which I assume is why they have the robots to assist. Our food came out quickly, and we had ordered the fresh spring rolls, fried chicken wings, fried calamari, grilled pork with vermicelli and spicy beef and pork noodle soup, and we enjoyed all the food. The total for all the above was about $70. The appetizers are a bit expensive for how much you get, but we thought the entrees were reasonably priced. We had enough to bring home food. We'll certainly be back to try more food!

Came here for dinner and really liked it. The place is nice and spacious , even has an area for karaoke entertainment. They use those robots to deliver food which is super fun. The pho I had was super flavorful and authentic. The only down side is price is on the high end compared to other pho places, with the similar level of food quality. They do have some unique things especially seafood id love to try next time!

Its a simple equation: Beef rib + robots = I'm in! My visit to Pho Royal was long overdue. First, there were delays when it was projected to be open. Then this ongoing pandemic. I'm glad I finally made it. First, I have to say, from the outside it looks like a tiny place, but upon entering it is very big and spacious. Bathrooms are clean. Every single staff member is very courteous and attentive. One will place their order with a server and when your order is ready, robots bring your meal to you. Fun! When you're finished, you approach the register to pay. This pho, particularly the Pho Royal (menu item for 16.99) is top notch! It is the house special that includes all the goodies, meatball, brisket, rare beef, tendon, and a big ol rib! The broth on its own is a winner as it is very fragrant and rich. The basil, lemon, and sprouts are extremely fresh. I mean, you CAN get the broth & noodles for 9.99, then add what you want, no judgement. I must add that the spring rolls were also very fresh. If you're not in the mood for pho, no worries. They have many other items on their menu. I'm going there tomorrow for bánh mì. Pho Royal really surprised me. I did not expect such comforting, rich pho in Crystal Lake. This is the real deal so stop by, the food is delicious, plus, both the real people and the robots are all smiles!

The dining area sets a great ambiance.

Okay, I am so sad to watch this happen - but here it goes. I love the robotic help, that's super cool, but there is a lot of disconnect between the ordering process now... especially as the last time I was there, they had kids (definitely underage), taking orders and they unfortunately made mistakes at every table around us, including mine. They have tablet menus, but there is no added functionality - it's just a menu on a tablet... I'm hoping at some point they streamline the process so that the ordering process is manual (guests order at the table on the tablet), the order is sent to the kitchen and the robotic help brings the order out. Right now, it just seems like the money is going into nothing beneficial and the dining experience is just not good... my order was supposed to be the pho I always order, but I got some weird, watery, chicken vegetable soup because the 12-14 year old kid who took my order didn't know what he was doing, and I assume he just didn't get training. The same thing happened to all the tables that were there that day with soups being sent back and reordered.

don't let the entrance, walk inside it's newly remodeled there's some wonderful indoor lighting a really nice stage with beautiful artwork paintings and so on. There is live plants inside as well. There are televisions near the ceiling at the bar. And I can recommend having a seat amd enjoy the nice open dinjng experience.

Love the food here. Very authentic Vietnamese, especially Pho (beef noodle soup). The broth is absolutely flavorful and all the beef cuts in there are cooked well. Special combo rice plate is amazing. I like how the rice is fresh with a unique aroma. Very quick service. The boys are very active & nice. I would strongly recommend and definitely come back for more!

Entry table: filled with flowers and notes of congratulations for the opening!

This is the first dedicated pho (pronounced "fuh" for people new to the dish) house in the area and it's a winner! For our family, pho is a regular, almost weekly staple... like taco Tuesday, so it is great to have another option in the CL/ALG/LITH area. We had 3 bowls of pho, two with rare beef and one Royal, which is basically a meat lovers special. For those new to pho, there is tendon and bone in this one, so be advised. The pho broth here is complex with flavor. There's a little extra sweetness from the cinnamon or fish sauce that keeps you wanting more. The noodles are medium versus the small that most noodle shops use. This is more of a preference thing and though I prefer the small (or thinner) noodles, these were cooked nicely. Last thing to point out is that they are doing a great job with COVID precautions. You can see from my photos that the dining area is huge, there is sanitizer, and they are cleaning throughly between guests. It feels safe to eat in here. Only downside of the place is that they are on the expensive side for pho... $12.95 - $15.95. I guess that's not bad considering how far out of the city we are. We'll be back to try their non-pho dishes and you should give them a visit!

Look at that rib full of meat!

Very very good pho. We haven't tried anything else on the menu because when we want Vietnamese food, we want beef pho! We started with shrimp spring rolls because I love spring rolls. Our favorite is Pho Royal which has all the beef parts in a lovely bone and oxtail stock. My other half would like some tripe but they don't have any to offer. The drinks were amazing, so many diverse tea and boba options. They were a little slow to come out but worth waiting for. Thank you for offering what level of sugar 100%, 70%, 50%, 30%. That's wonderful! The robot waitress is super neat. She's a little sassy too

We love getting #27 (grilled pork chop with honey sausage). The pork chop is tasty, decent portions. You can pour this sweet sauce over your rice. And my kids always love the honey sausage. Another go to is #25, the Bun combo shrimp, lemongrass pork, and egg roll. Pour that same sweet sauce over this noodle and mix! It's mixed with chopped lettuce which makes the dish a room temperature meal. Noodle and meat/shrimp/eggroll are hot, but the lettuce is cold. I probably didn't make that sound good but it's a really good combination. We also get different types of Pho here. You can pretty much get whatever combination of meat you want even though that combination is not listed. Staff is friendly here. Wish it were a little brighter though.

There's plenty of pork, the pickled vegetables are fresh & crunchy, and the bread is soft inside. The fresh spring roll is exactly that - fresh! We ordered the fried spring roll which is decent. I think I taste a hint of taro, but I'm not sure. Either way my kids devoured them. We had crab rangoon and this was the only disappointing part of the meal. The wrapper was on the thicker and chewier side, the filling was barely there so it was just mostly chewy wrapper with a smidge of cream cheese filling. My family loves the combo pho. It's got a nice amount of meat with noodles. It's enough for 2 meals for me, but the rest of my family devoured everything. I definitely recommend Viet Taste! There isn't too many good pho places in the burbs. Rest assured this is one of the good places. Just note - It's CASH ONLY. Be prepared with cash and be hungry.

The halal chicken Pho is delicious and packed with a generous amount of chicken, the shrimp pancake was delicious and the dipping sauce along side was perfect. The shrimp fried rice had larger pieces of shrimp and more than other places we've had it. The carryout ordering was super easy and our meal was packed nicely. I recommend the extra veggies and extra fried tofu as it is a really nice accompaniment to the chicken pho. The only small drawback is to be sure to order the pancake when you're dining in. The bottom gets soft when they pack it for carryout which can't be helped. It's still very delicious but prefer it there I'd still give it a 10!

The biggest letdown by far was the rice plate. For that price, I expected a decent portion and quality--but instead, I got 4 tiny pieces of beef short ribs that were almost entirely fat with barely any actual meat. It honestly felt more like eating pork belly than short ribs. It just felt like a total rip-off for what you get. I wouldn't recommend ordering that dish at all. The rest of the food was okay, but nothing that would make me want to come back, especially considering the price point. Service was slow. Had to ask for water refills. Restaurant is clean and spacious.

The combo pho is generously portioned with lots of meats, noodles, and an addictive broth. Hubs and the kids devour their bowls and then whine about how full they are - LOL! We end up getting 2 orders because it's that good. The fresh spring rolls are very good as well. They have 2 whole shrimps in each roll unlike most places where they split a shrimp in half per roll. Pho Son Ha splits 2 shrimps for each roll meaning an order has 4 pieces of shrimp. The inside has seating, but it's a cozy place. The inside is very clean and inviting, with cherry blossoms as a center point of deco, hardwood floors, plenty of booths..and of course a serving robot. The staff is super attentive. As for the pho, I tend to get the house special or rare beef. The meat, tendon, meetballs, tripe are fresh. Their broth is a little different from traditional but is definitely the star, I like it! Their soup spoons are basically ladles, and rightfully so. We love their Thai iced tea and every one of their "punches". They do have banh mi, lemongrass chicken , grilled pork chop, and more. I've never had the courage to try their sushi tacos, someone let me know what those are like. There is an area of opportunity. You charge for chili oil? Cmon dude. Also, three bowls of pho, three drinks and gratuity at around $87? The search continues…read more I still have not found "the one" I can rely on in the Chicagoland area. I say "Chicagoland" loosely, since it's only been 10 months since I've moved into the area, and I'm mainly trying to nail down a spot that I can rely on in northwest suburbs area. The thing is, there are plenty of decent Vietnamese restaurants. Maybe some above average. But I'm finding out that it's very difficult to find one that can give you the "wholeness," per se. Especially once you've had one and set the bar there. Mine happens to have come from an old, grumpy couple who have since retired and no longer serving their amazing home-style cooking. As for Pho Lover, my family ordered one pho and one pork chop. I opted to try the advertised "combo," which in retrospect I should have skipped. It's just a bowl of pho, a couple eggrolls and a pop for a couple bucks less. Considering I normally would not have ordered the eggrolls or a pop, I immediately regretted it. The option for pho was either the House Special pho or the rare steak pho. I asked to see if I can substitute rare steak with brisket only and they said it was fine. Only, I ended up with a rare steak version anyway. They apologized and I decided not to make a fuss out of it, even though I don't normally like the way rare steak become tough to chew once it's fully cooked in broth. It was no exception this time. Noodles were cooked fine. Perfectly average. Broth was fine. Perfectly average. All the usual toppings were on the skimpy side, which I didn't like. I asked for some extra onion and cilantro, but I never ended up getting them. The porkchop dish was very underwhelming. Meat still had strong boar taint, which to some is a feature, not a bug. Not for my family. Even besides the odor, everything was once again, perfectly average. I can't say I'll go back. Life is too short for average meals.
