Finally got around to coming here on a Sunday after church at Calvary Chapel (in the same shopping center). A couple friends came a couple weeks earlier and recommended the crispy noodle dish. So, I thought I would give that dish a try and my fiancée ordered some pho. The crispy noodles were indeed delicious and the portion was enough for two solid meals. The dish also has a brown sauce that coats the veggies and meat but it also gets on the noodles as well and makes them more so like regular boiled noodles. This was great for me because you get the best of both worlds, but I thought I would mention that just in case someone is interested in ordering them. My fiancée enjoyed her pho as well, saying the broth was delicious. Her soup was enough for two meals as well. Overall a great experience and would definitely come back often when I am craving those noodles or to try something new! read more

Saigon Palace is the place to go if you are every wanting any kind of Vietnamese food or anything like it! They have two star of the show meals - the shrimp fried rice and the chicken pho (I've only had the chicken, but I'm sure the others are just as good). Just be prepared the portions are HUGE so either split the meals or come HUNGRY! But I mean these meals are BOMB and they will not disappoint you. It is a little bit pricey especially if you are a college student ballin on a budget! But it's honestly worth every penny. read more

This is the best meal I've had in a long time. I'm so glad I trusted the reviews on this one, it was the absolute best place to end our visit to Lynchburg. We stumble in after a long day of traveling and are greeted with a warm hello and two ice-cold waters immediately. The woman running the counter was lovely and attentive and I knew the second she brought out our appetizer of pork and vegetable dumplings that this would be the beginning of a beautiful love story. Of course, we went with the special pho and raved about it all the way through the meal and long after we left. Even with our stomachs full, we didn't want to the moment to end so we did what any sensible person would do and ordered the crispy spring rolls and two Thai teas to-go. You NEED to finish it off with the Thai tea. Super yummy! I used to live in Westminster, CA, which is the capitol of PHO in SoCal. This place did a great job! I had the Dac Biet, and it was amaze. The broth was delicious, and they have all of the expected garnishes (Thai basil, bean sprouts, lime wedges, Sri racha, and chili oil). Sidenote...do not eat if you plan on a long work shift afterwards...it's nap time after a bowl. I fell asleep after eating it lol (compliments to the chef!) OMG. Friendly staff. Tried PHO for the first time while visiting my brothers in San Francisco Bay Area. While out sightseeing, we stopped for lunch at one of their favorite Vietnamese restaurants. I had PHO for the first time and it was delicious. Once back in Lynchburg, I decided to try the PHO at Saigon Palace. The first thing I noticed was the soup base was bland chicken flavored stock. Good enough Pho, fast service ... I can't vouch for any other dishes as we only had pho. I like that their broth was not oily and the flavor was all there. Some might have issues with them putting cilantro in the soup already and not as an option. We got there an hour before closing and the food came out super fast, even by Vietnamese noodle joint standard, probably because they were closing in an hour. Don't let the exterior fool you! This place makes authentic Pho. The price is worth its bang, it's not even that expensive. The portions are huge, they give more than what I get back home at D.C. The service is great. I always get the chicken vermicelli and the Pho with tendon and eye of round, or even the seafood pho. I'm 5'3 but I get to fill my 8 stomachs whenever I come here. Vietnamese I have been meaning to get in here for a while now and a recent run over to Big Lots was all I needed to finally venture in. Bigger than it looks from outside, Saigon Palace is bright and airy when you first walk in. Super helpful young guy working there (forgot his name unfortunately) got us all set up with bubble drinks and really took a nice amount of time walking us through the menu. We started off with some summer rolls that were very nicely steamed - perfect. The mains were one of the vermicelli noodle dishes and my wife went with pho which she devoured. My main was massive and I barely put a dent in it, so needless to say, I had two more meals from it - nice. The menu is extensive - I am not very knowledgeable about the cuisine overall and they were extremely patient and helpful with explaining and even suggesting substitutions for my wife based on her questions. Gotta admit that one surprised me a bit. We found it on yelp while we were road tripping it back home. I was quite skeptical, despite it's seemingly solid rep. We walked in and were the only table and immediately set to work reviewing the slightly sticky, ramshackle menu. Also disappointed straight away that they didn't have unsweet tea on hand. That's where the disappointment ended and the fabulosity began. We started with the fresh veggie/tofu roll and was super impressed that the fried tofu was still warm. That's right, they rolled the fresh roll to order and it was quite delicious. I had the veg pho with the beef broth. It doesn't say it on the menu but there is an option for veggie broth, but I always find meat-based broths more flavorful/richer. The pho was really really good. I liked that their broth was light, yet complex, and not too star anisey. The husband had the tofu vermicelli, which was also tasty. Our waitress was also super nice and pointed that they can sub tofu in any of the meat dishes on the menu. This place is on our list for sure the next time we are rolling through Lynchburg! read more

Delicious Pho Sho! Best vegetarian Pho I've ever had! They actually use vegetarian broth, not beef broth. The veggies were crisp and tofu was sautéed and firm. Of course I couldn't eat it all and I asked for a take away. The cook added more stock to my veggies and noodles so I would have a whole other meal! There are vegan options not listed on the menu, so be sure to ask. The vegan pho chay is very good. The broth was instant but that's to be expected. Make sure to specifically request the vegan broth. Lately I've been too lazy to write reviews but after reading some inaccurate reviews of this place, I decided to come out of my cave to support this restaurant. I've been to Saigon Palace several times now and I find the food excellent and faithful to the Vietnamese flavors. I lived in San Jose, home to the (third?) largest Vietnamese population outside of Vietnam, for about 4-5 years, so I think it's somewhat safe to say that I know what Vietnamese food is supposed to taste like despite not being Vietnamese. The two major dishes I have ordered time and time again are the vermicelli bowls and the pho. I have also gotten Vietnamese coffee, which does have a lot of ice, but that can be helpful since it can be quite sweet to begin with. Last time I was here, we also got calamari, which was made fresh, though it could have been more crispy. However, in my opinion, the two dishes that I order are quintessential to the Vietnamese food experience and those two dishes are well done. I do have to warn you that their pho is on the sweeter side so it took me a bit to adjust to, but I don't think that means it's an inaccurate representation of pho itself. Rather, I think the broth may be a regional difference between areas in Vietnam. The shining star is definitely the vermicelli bowl. The bowl itself is great bang for your buck. It's quite a large bowl stuffed to the brim with edibles and only costs about $10-$12. It also includes a crispy spring roll, which is fresh and absolutely delicious. I do think the fish sauce that you pour on top can be improved--maybe it's missing a bit of a kick? But all in all, the taste is truthful to the original dish. For all the reasons above, I gave this review four stars since it's definitely not the best Vietnamese I have had. Why bother writing this review? It's because this is the best Lynchburg has to offer and that being said, it's not a bastardized version in the least. The taste is just not completely agreeable with my particular preference though the food itself is very solid Vietnamese food. It could even be on par with its sibling restaurants in San Jose (though probably not number one). My main grievance with the other low star reviews here is people's quip about the blandness of the food or that it doesn't taste like Thai or Chinese food. Because it's not supposed to. Vietnamese food has a cleaner taste in general and is less salty but has more different types of subtle herbs. So the taste is completely accurate and this restaurant is excelling in what it has decided to specialize in. The workers are clearly Vietnamese and know their cuisine. I find that adding another cuisine to one's menu just to please a larger clientele often causes the establishment to produce food that is inadequate because the chef is not qualified to cook that cuisine (ie. lacks experience). So the suggestions for this restaurant to include more Thai dishes are actually doing a disservice to the restaurant's model. The other major issue according to these reviews was the service. In almost all Asian restaurants that are true to their cuisine, you will find that their service is not as pleasant as its American counterpart. But to be honest, the more authentic the food that a restaurant serves, the more likely it will have "bad" service because Asian values are different from American culture. If you want good Asian food, then expect service that is less accommodating. That being said, I found the service at Saigon Palace to be quite good for an Asian restaurant--food came out quickly and orders were taken quickly with waiters coming around once to check on you. I generally do not like being bothered while eating and if I need your attention, I will ask. It's normal to go up to the cashier to pay at a Vietnamese restaurant and let them know what you got. Moreover, as per other reviews, I found it extremely kind that they took off dishes for people who complained and those people didn't have to pay for the dish the restaurant made. That is not a practice in many Asian restaurants because they expect you to just deal with it if you ordered something you didn't like. Regardless, if you want surprisingly authentic Vietnamese cuisine in the small town of Lynchburg, go to Saigon Palace and for sure you will get a good price for the amount of food you get. But expect to go up to pay and be courteous when asking for favors rather than demanding. If you taper your expectation for what servers are supposed to do for you, you'll likely have a better dining experience. read more
