Saigon Palace Special Pho - Pho Dac Biet

I was craving for pho and this is the nearest one so, I decided to give them a try. The wait was long and it was just one lady working. Poor thing. The food was good; no other complaints besides waiting.

Tried Pho Saigon for the first time and everything was yummy! We had takeout. The Bahn mi was delicious and the scallion pancakes were so flavorful. I can't wait to go back and try more things.

The owner was very sweet. The smoothies were made with real fruit and the food was delicious!

I have mixed reviews about this restaurant. Although the food is good and service seems to be decent, the inconsistency in the arrival of food is too big to ignore. I first noticed this even before I ordered with a table across the room. 2/3 customers were deep into their meals when the final order finally came for the third at least 10 minutes after. My second notice of this was for my own table. My partner got his pho and I had to wait another 15 for mine and another 5 after that for my Bahn mi. Before I got my meal, two other customers who ordered and sat down after me, at separate tables got their orders within minutes of ordering. I would understand if the bahn mi took longer to make but at the minimum, I would have preferred if both pho dishes arrived at the same time. In total, I waited 35 minutes for my dish while other tables waited less than 10. Now on to the food: if you're going to order anything from here, have it be the pork bahn mi. It is absolutely delicious and has the most flavorful pork. Any other pork dish from here would probably be amazing too. The pho is not bad, with good soup flavor. 24 is the classic special but if you're not feeling the entire meat combo, any of the other options may suit you. I opted for 29 which has the rare steak and soft tendon. The steak doesn't come rare, probably not a fan favorite look in a small town but still tender and I take the meat out to stop it from over cooking. The tendon is really soft and melts in your mouth. I thought the portion of meat was perfect for the amount of noodles provided. I would probably come back and do takeout for the bahn mi but not dine in again.

"Lemongrass" chicken w no lemongrass or flavor--$16.50

Honestly, if I could give negative stars, I would. The quality of this place has declined in recent years. This happened after the switch over in management more so. I have referred many people here for the lemongrass chicken dish. I haven't had in a while because the prices went up dramatically and the quality is inconsistent. I like supporting "mom and pop" restaurants and was willing to deal with the inconsistency and the price increase ($13 to $16) because generally the food tasted good. When I say inconsistent, I mean, sometimes it came with vegetables, sometimes it didn't. Sometimes the meat was in a separate box, sometimes it wasn't. Sometimes there were cucumbers, radish and carrots. Sometimes peppers. Sometimes it come with sauces. Sometimes not. Sometimes there was a decent amount of food. Sometimes it wasn't. The point I'm saying is it was very inconsistent. So today, I go and order lemongrass chicken. The woman on the phone sounded as if she didn't know the dish. But finally said, "Oh, yes lemongrass chicken." That should have been my tip off. But I hadn't had in a while and wanted something different. I go to eat and the chicken is parboiled with absolutely no flavor. I have used soy sauce to down some of it. At $16.50 and about 2 healthy handfuls of chicken and peppers (this time), it's a permanent no for me. No lemongrass in sight. Bland. And disgusting frankly. I also asked for chopsticks. Those weren't included. I'm including a picture so you can see. Perhaps there are some pictures on here of how it used to look, but clearly it doesn't look good. Also, I went in and saw a few people eating in the restaurant today. I thought, "Ok, well maybe it's better." Either they were duped like me, desperate, or have no taste buds. Lesson learned. Too bad because Lynchburg, in my opinion, really struggles for decent non-American food.

This is authentic Vietnamese food. the people are amazing to talk with but most importantly the food is insane! definitely try the spring rolls then out on the magic 4 sauces. Just make sure to sit in the middle tables not the booths. definitely recommend -- you're taste buds will not regret it.

Banh mi sandwich gone wrong due to wrapping
    E C.

Came back to try this place again and only regretted it. Stopped in for lunch break but decided to take to go. Ordered the Banh mi sandwich. When I pulled it out of the bag, half the sandwich immediately fell out and spilled all over the floor. The ends of the sandwich were NOT wrapped like they do at Subway sandwiches. What a complete waste, because they were too cheap to use enough paper to fully wrap the sandwich. Too many disappointing experiences here. Let's not even get started with the terrible customer service.

Steak Thinly Sliced Eye Round Steak & Soft Tendon Pho

I love asian food of all kinds and this place delivered some serious flavor today. I had the rare steak and soft tendon pho today and it was amazing. The steak was thinly sliced and cooked perfectly and the soft tendon had so much flavor. The broth was seasoned great and with a little sriracha it opened up my sinuses really well. I also had an order of the fresh summer rolls and they are some of my favorite I've had. Fresh is the proper word for them. They'd make the Prince of Bel-Air proud. The staff was very friendly and personable even with a little bit of a language difference. The atmosphere was very laid back and there appeared to be a couple of regular customers in there too. I didn't try the bubble tea, but next time I go you can guarantee I'll be trying it to give me something sweet to contrast with my pho. Their portion sizes are nice as well. If you're in Lynchburg and you want legit Pho, you gotta check this place out. After typing all this out, I kinda wanna go back for seconds already... who's in with me??

    Small #28, steak and flank
    Charlene C.

Arrived around 1:30 p.m. on a Sunday and there were still plenty of seats available. One of the staff seated us immediately. Ordered a small #28 pho, which comes with "rare" steak and flank. The pho had great flavor, with a generous amount of scallions and served with plenty of fresh bean sprouts and basil. It would have been nice if the meat was actually served rare. Maybe I'll just have to ask for it next time. The small size cost $8.50 and was filling enough for me. Service was a little bit slow. The waitress didn't notice us while we were waiting for her to take our order. She was apologetic and friendly. Don't forget to try one of the complimentary yummy guava hard candies after you pay for your order at the cashier.

I'm not an expert in Vietnamese Cuisine, nor do I profess to be, but I can tell when I eat good food and I have discovered it in fancy restaurants as well as in many hole in the wall ones. Today I decided to get off the road most traveled, to end up in this Asian family-owned Vietnamese Cuisine restaurant. As I arrived I immediately saw its simple but very effective white sign with large black print with the restaurant's name and telephone number. Inside, the place was very clean starting from its large front window and glass door. Decorated very simple with plants, family items saved throughout the years, and artworks hanging from the walls, its shinny hardwood floor and simple lamps hanging from the ceiling, join with the nice looking wooden furniture to create the right amount of elegance and at the same time relaxed environment. I received a warm welcome and genuine greeting from a Vietnamese gentleman who had me take a seat and handed me the menu of the restaurant. To drink I ordered the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. It was so rich and delicious with its condensed milk. For appetizer I ordered the Pork Spring Rolls served with a Peanut Dipping. For a better idea of how good they were, I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review, because a picture is worth a thousand words. As my main course I ordered the Stir Fry Noodles with Grilled Pork and Shrimps. It came out in a square, light green plate. And it both looked and tasted so good that I immediately identified with the best of Vietnamese Cuisine. In conclusion I highly recommend this Asian family-owned Vietnamese Cuisine restaurant for its amazing food, relaxed environment, wonderful customer service, and extraordinary dining experience.

I did go with a friend and we were very impressed. So much so that I gave it a 5 Star review. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review. So today, I invited my friend who had invited me last year to go with me to give this restaurant another try, because consistency is what gives a restaurant its success, and helps develop its good reputation. We arrived and the small, clean, and cozy restaurant was still there, under a beautiful blue sky with white clouds. Outside in the small porch it had two tables with chairs for people who preferred eating outdoors on a nice Summer day. It was a hot day so we decided to eat indoors under the comfort of the air-condition. As soon as we walked inside a young lady warmly greeted and welcomed us and took us to our table. Soon after we reviewed the already familiar menu we both ordered a glass of iced water to drink. On a hot day there is nothing like a glass of nice cold water to quench the thirst. To eat we both also ordered the Pork Pad Thai. This traditional Thai dish had rice noodles, eggs, bean sprouts, green onions, and pork, with peanut and lime on the side.we both didn't want it too spicy hot so we asked for a #2 spicyness. Not long afterwards our dishes arrived. The presentation was simple, yet clean and appetizing. Everything looked so fresh and appetizing. And tasted amazing. Our server came by to check on us with a smile to see if everything was to our satisfaction and we told her it was. Everything so far was far exceeding our highest expectation. The food was so savory and the pieces of pork were so lean and fresh. I also loved the feel of the rice noodles and the taste of the grind peanuts. Even though the dining room was small, it didn't take long for itn to get full while we were eating, and we saw other customers come in to pick up Takeout orders. A lot of the seemed like repeat customers. It seemed like this small family-owned and run restaurant was getting the right attention and had become successful mostly through word of mouth, ju DrWe were very happy to see this. For dessert we both ordered the Coconut Ice-cream with Fried Bananas. It was wonderful. In conclusion I gave another 5 Stars to this restaurant and I highly recommend it to all those who enjoy Thai food or would like to try it. You'll be glad you did.
