I had two banh xeo order on DoorDash today. One of the worst bánh xèo I've ever had. This Vietnamese crepe had none of the flavor it's supposed to have -- no hint of turmeric, no aroma, nothing. It just tasted like a plain, greasy tempura. I ordered two and could barely eat even a quarter of one before throwing them out. Extremely disappointing. read more

We were looking for a Pho in Pleasanton and found this on Yelp. There's a lot of parking for a Sunday and we didn't have a hard time looking for this place. The place looks newly renovated or painted. The tables look new and the place was very clean. There are a lot of items on their menu and you can have a choice of their Pho or Vermicelli plate. They also serve sandwiches and appetizers. Service was very quick and you can have your order within a few minutes. I had their Vietnamese beef noodle. It comes in either large or medium size. The taste is like every Pho place that I went to. There's nothing spectacular or special about the bowl. Pretty average pho spot, nothing wrong but nothing too spectacular either. We came around lunchtime on a Sunday and there was initially quite a large number of people, but that died down by the time we got settled. With this being my first time here, I decided to opt for one of the classic pho dishes and chose the one with brisket, flank, and tendon. Service was fast, and the bowl came out super hot with the side of the classic bean sprouts, jalapenos, basil, and lime. I also really liked how they had not just the classic sriracha and hoisin, but also a couple other seasoning sauces. There was a good amount of meat and noodles in the bowl, and I did like the meat quality. I thought the noodles weren't super fresh, but the broth was light and flavorful at the same time. Stopped by for a quick dinner on Monday night around 8 and there were plenty of tables and plenty of parking. We were seated immediately and ordered shortly afterwards. We ordered bun Bo hue and combo rib pho. Food came out pretty quickly as well. The flavors of the both were pretty good, especially considering it's Pleasanton. However, the portions were really small. It's about the same price as Oakland, if not more expensive and maybe half the size. The bun bo hue had pork cake, tendon, brisket, but no pork blood or pork slices/pieces. Not fully authentic, but decent enough. The combo rib pho was a little salty, otherwise the broth was pretty good as well. The beef rib was very small (lengthwise), but the meat was tender. Good thing we weren't too hungry! Flavors were there, but unfortunately for the price, it's very expensive since the portion is so small. In a pinch, if you're hungry and want some pho late in the evening, this may be a good option, but definitely not somewhere to go to all the time. read more

I was feeling a bit under the weather and craved pho. The noodles from Pho Saigon restaurant definitely fulfilled those cravings! My husband and I came to the restaurant around 1pm on Sunday and most of the tables were occupied, but we were able to to sit down immediately. They have quite a menu of options but we ended up ordering the number 3 pho (comes in a Large bowl) and the beef stew with egg noodles. The large bowl is huge! But it's mostly broth and noodles. I added Chinese basil, bean sprouts, lime to my pho and it was such a nice warm dish to have on a cold day. The price was reasonable ($15 for a large) and service was quick. Mama ordered the pho ga, and I got the bun bo hue and an avocado smoothie (which is Very filling and large enough to share)! The bun bo hue was borderline too spicy for me, but the flavors were all there and it only comes in the large portion, so I had plenty of leftovers to bring home. The avocado smoothie was a cooling counter-balance to the spicy broth. The pho ga was classic and refreshing - mom finished the entire bowl, so you know she liked it! It was pretty dead on a Saturday lunch, so the food came out quick. The Pho sizes were fairly large. The soup was yummy, and there was a good amount of meat. I came here for lunch today and discovered it is no longer Pho Saigon Restaurant. They are under new ownership with different staff operating this location. They rebranded as Pho Saigon (without Restaurant) and the interior has been remodeled as well. There's a beautiful mural on the wall and plenty of seating. I had the brisket and flank pho (#4) size small and a grilled beef vermicelli plate. The total came to $42 after tax and 15% tip. Everything tasted good but I definitely miss the previous owners. The former restaurant was my go-to spot for Vietnamese fare. The new team is friendly and service is fast so it's a decent place to get your pho fix. Tri-Valley is a Vietnamese food desert especially when it comes to its lack of decent pho restaurants. However, with the introduction of Pho Saigon in Pleasanton, the Tri-Valley can now experience an array of great Vietnamese cuisine. I haven't found many places that sell Bun Rieu or Bo Kho, but Pho Saigon does it all. I was also surprised to see that they offered Bun Bo Hue which is hard to find in the Bay. Though I haven't tried these dishes (yet), I'm sure I'll find the time to during my many expected visits in the future. Today, I ordered the spring rolls, vermicelli, avocado smoothie, and banh mi. Everything was very solid, but I will note that the avocado smoothie was the shining star of tonight's meal. Oftentimes, restaurants cut corners with sinh to bo by using powdered avocado mixes in place of real avocado. But, Pho Saigon does no such thing. The smoothie is incredibly creamy and the avocado flavor is far from nuanced. The waitstaff are also incredibly sweet and very attentive. Though the banh mi only has one option featured on the menu, the waiters are kind enough to allow you to choose your desired meat inside. Definitely will be back! Feeling a little nostalgic and happy that Pho Saigon originally in Dublin has reopened in Pleasanton. The new restaurant has a new look with a eat in counter. It's located in the shopping center on the corner of Hopyard and Stoneridge. We were handed an extensive new menu with items like Bun Rieu, shaken beef, garlic noodles and pork rolls. After choosing several of those items we were told they are not available. Wound up ordering two combo pho one with the beef rib and the special house deep fried fish cake. The beef rib was pretty tough and fatty. You get three fish cakes cut in half. The combo pho was fine. The new both seating wood bench seating and is hard on the back. There is problem with the entry door and is impossible to open. The employees need to open and close the door to let people in and out. Last, after getting the check we noticed a discrepancy on the meal amount and the charged amount. That's when we were told there is a 3 % fee charged for credit cards. Huh???? I used Visa and they charge 2 % so they actually make another point on the customer without even letting the customer know. Also, the credit card establishment is Quynh Mai Quan 2435 South King Rd. #20 San Jose CA I don't know if The owners were just in a hurry to reopen but the menu and credit card issues need to be fixed before I'll go back. read more

Ooo can't wait to try this place in person! Broth was so flavorful, and I'm still thinking about it. We ordered our food to go, and the pho packaging was so thoughtful! The rare steak & other raw items (green onions, sliced onions) were separated from the meat and noodles underneath. Everything fit neatly in one bowl container too! Fresh spring rolls ($7.50): Whether you order the vegetarian spring rolls or the ones with shrimp and pork, it will still be $7.50 which is interesting. Well stuffed and pretty long, but we probably won't get it again. Pho ($12.95): All pho options in size medium are $12.95 no matter what's in it, so might as well order a bowl with all the goods (#3-#6)! I really wanted to try the bun rieu but it wasn't available yet, so I'm going to call ahead before I go to check :) Grilled shrimp and pork over vermicelli ($14.95): This was a LOT of food. A friend recommended this spot, so I came to check it out. The service was attentive, and the ambiance felt relaxed and welcoming. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue with oxtails, which sounded exciting. The broth was flavorful, but the oxtails could have been stewed longer to soak up more of that richness. A bit more shrimp paste would also add the extra depth and complexity that really makes Bun Bo Hue stand out. I ordered three items to go. 1) Beef rice plate 2) Fried chicken pork chop and egg roll rice plate 3) shrimp summer rolls They got one out of three dishes correct. But wait it gets better. I don't mind getting the wrong food but when I called him back to explain to them that they mixed up my order even planning to say we would accept the order. I was told that I was very mistaken and that I ordered the wrong thing. Instead of taking accountability, they tried to shift their mistake to their customer. I then demonstrated to them that they were incorrect and just gave me the wrong order. After realizing it all she said was okay, thank you, bye. No apology and no accountability. Service wasn't great - the server was quick to move onto the next person if you weren't ready to order and did not check in on us at all. The BBH was lacking flavor to my palate. When I requested I requested half rice and half egg noodles for my soup, they said they could not do that... odd. The wonton filling wasn't bad but the skin was thicker than it should be and almost dry or not soft and cooked through. The amount of meat in my Mi was good and the shrimp were medium sized. My husband also requested only a couple meats that didn't come that way on the menu in his pho and they said they cannot do that, they need to put in a specific number from the menu. In the end they said they could specify to not have a meat item from the menu option choice. Not sure why this was so difficult. Noticed the grand opening sign so we decided to give this spot a try. I must say the nem nuong cuon is definitely delicious, and something you don't find common in this area, you can mainly find them in San Jose, Oakland, Sacramento, etc. this spring roll was filled with greens, pork sausage, and a fried roll of rice paper which add a nice crunch. The only thing I wish this spring roll had was noodles, but I'm so happy to find this kind of roll in my area. I ordered the pork chop plate.
