The restaurant is located in a strip mall surrounded by office buildings, so the exterior doesn't give off a very warm vibe -- but once you step inside, the atmosphere is much nicer. The funniest part was that when we arrived at our reserved time, the restaurant was actually closed with a paper sign saying the owner had to leave urgently. Clean and great service. They were quick! Orange chicken was very good, crispy and sweet and pieces of orange peel were in there to heighten the flavor. Yummy rice. Came here on a last minute reservation to celebrate a family birthday. They took our large group and we had the biggest table in the dining room. One star off because there was some miscommunication and unorganized way of taking orders. They did not assign any seat numbers so it became confusing when dishes would come out. The servers tried their best, food wasn't my favorite but it was decent. I believe many dishes were too bland for my liking and lacked flavor. I wish there was more spice level but maybe it's because we didn't order properly. My favorite dish was the red curry and crab fried rice. Eeek the food was pretty terrible today. I ordered the yellow curry chicken lunch. The curry was the consistency of water. i'm not exaggerating...water. I also selected the side of crispy tofu with peanut sauce. There was no peanut sauce, and because although the tray had separate compartments, since the curry was so watery it souped over the tofu. Then I open the mango sticky rice, and even more water. like extreeeemely watered down coconut milk. the mango was sour too, so absolutely no sweetness. this all came out to $40 by the way. read more

We dropped in at 2ish on a Sunday afternoon. There was a constant of 2 to 3 tables of people coming in & out and 2, then 3 wait staff. Thai ice tea was cold and perfect. Roti trio had 3 sauces , peanut which was too thick, it would have been better thinned a bit, curry was good and so was the cucumber. Pad se-ew looked a bit odd, like dry but it tasted just fine. This is the first time we had the citrus chicken over rice. It's a fried chicken cutlet over fried rice with a citrus sauce on the side. All 3 components separately were good. It was just kind of weird to us but still good to try. Yellow curry had great flavor but kind of thin and needed just a tiny touch more of chicken, potatoes and carrots. The side of rice was fine. Service was fine. It was an average Thai place. It was not a super nice Thai restaurant with a cloth tablecloth. It was comfortable enough. If I was in the area, I would probably return. read more

Scrolling through the reviews, I keep seeing good reviews from many legitimate profiles, including Yelp Connoisseurs. Unfortunately, my experience was not that great! I don't know if that was a bad day for this restaurant and chef was out and someone had to pick up the shift but it's 2nd worst Thai food I have ever had in California. We have ordered Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles and Curry. I think, my pad Thai was worst out of three dishes. I just can't forget chicken taste. It didn't taste right to me at all! Was is old chicken or it wasn't a chicken I will never know but it was bad. Their pad Thai sauce was condensed on bottom of noodles like it was from pre-packaged sauce bag. I feel like they just threw sauce on top of chicken and added noodles. Also, raw onions? In pad Thai? It was not raw pad Thai dish! Meeehh. Curry was 2nd horrible dish! Also, tasted like curry paste bottle somewhere from Costco diluted with water! And finally drunken noddles were ok. I absolutely love Thai food so I was really disappointed I didn't like this place. The plus is that the portions are a little more than most Thai places but I didn't really enjoy the flavor of the food. Pad Thai: the sauce was so overpowering that you couldn't really taste the different components of the dish Panang curry: this was tasty but was on the spicy side. I usually love a little kick to my food so I didn't mind it as much but it was too spicy for hubby Dumpling: it was good- ordinary nothing special. Again, Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines so for me to take the food and just give it away spoke volumes because I would normally hoard any left over Thai! Service was subpar. Lady was not proactive in serving us but if she noticed we were trying to get napkins from the other table then she would come over and say she can get us things and it's her job. I absolutely love Thai food and could not be more satisfied from the quality of the items we tried. We recently checked out New Thai Bistro and were really impressed. The lunch special is an absolute steal at $14, including an appetizer, main dish, rice, and salad. The food quality at this price point is fantastic. My only (very nitpicky) gripe is that the crispy fish dish--which is on the regular lunch menu--wasn't included in the "specials." It's the only item that didn't make the cut, and I couldn't help but wish it had. I'll have to come back and try that next time. For starters, the coconut shrimp appetizer was a highlight. It didn't have that overly sweet, artificial taste that some places lean into--it was fresh and perfectly balanced. The yellow curry sauce was slightly on the thicker side, but incredibly flavorful, especially when paired with a side of pickled Thai chilis. On the flip side, the salad dressing was a bit unexpected, almost like a coconut mayo? It wasn't bad, just... unique. The service was a tad slower than we're used to, but not a dealbreaker. The ambience more than made up for it--bright murals and strong lighting made the space feel lively and fun. Overall, New Thai Bistro is definitely worth a visit, and we'll be back soon to explore more of the menu. read more

This was an amazing find. Good for a casual lunch/ dinner when you're in mood for some good food. I loved everything we ordered, no kidding. The fried veg rolls were fresh and crispy. Their Mango seven is refreshing. Lychee thai iced tea isn't as sweet as the Thai ice tea you see usually. Tastes good and like tea with a couple of lychees infused. I'm a sucker for jasmine soup generally, so I enjoyed Tom yum as well, although I'd choose a different protein than chicken next time. Maybe seafood. Loved the drunken noodles and tropical shrimp fried rice. The price was great for the experience provided. Service is decent. Definitely recommended this place for a casual dine in. read more

It's been a while since I've been here and was looking forward to having Thai food. Was going to order the Emerald noodles, and then noticed the special menu which included an appetizer combo and fried chicken pad Thai. I should've checked photos, but instead asked the server what she recommended and she let me know that the fried chicken pad Thai was very popular. I was thinking more actual fried chicken or something like Korean fried chicken, instead, what I received was a huge Panko cutlet aka chicken Katsu. Unfortunately, I'm not the biggest chicken Katsu fan and didn't expect it at a Thai restaurant. I did try a couple pieces with the yummy peanut sauce, but it was still katsu. Ended up putting it to the side and took it home to the Hubbs. The pad Thai noodles were on the sweeter side, light on the bean sprouts - which I like and had lots of tofu. The red curry tofu & veggies was good and mildly spiced, however my sister from a different mother thought it was spicy. The appetizer combo came with two coconut shrimp, two veggie eggrolls, two Gyoza, two cream cheese wontons, and what tasted like two lumpia Shanghai. The appys weren't exactly Thai. They were served with a sweet chili sauce, a coconut mayo sauce, and a peanut sauce. What I ordered was more Thai fusion than actual Thai food, still good, but not what I was expecting. read more

My husband and I LOVE Thai food and unfortunately this Thai restaurant is not authentic. We ordered Pad Se Ew and Tropical fried rice. The noodles were burnt and toasted like burnt, no flavor, dry, and no veggies! The fried rice barely had veggies, the rice was hard, some part of the rice tasted soy sauce and some parts of the rice had no soy sauce. This is not the typical authentic Thai restaurants. Quick service and delicious food! Honestly went here thinking it was a different spot that I heard was very popular in the area. Surprised to say, this was probably better! We were sat quickly on a Saturday night and immediately ordered the roti trio. Their roti was super flakey and tasted perfect. The curry and peanut sauce dips were delicious too. This place has become one of my frequently visited Thai restaurants in Tri valley. Friendly staff and great ambiance. The appetizers are not that great. I have ordered the softshell crab and it smelled a lot after the first bite and it is not fresh for sure. Thai basil fried rice is 4/5 and nothing could go wrong here from my experience with the Thai restaurants. I have been here twice. The first time, I remember I enjoyed what I had, but I can't quite remember what I ordered. The most recent experience left me disappointed. I ordered pad see ew with shrimp ($18.95) take out. The take out portion wasn't a whole lot of food. The pad see ew didn't taste like pad see ew. It was bland, burnt and really not that good. The way the shrimp was cooked didn't fit the flavor profile of the dish... but that might be my fault for ordering with shrimp (which was a $4 additional charge). Also I found chunks of chicken in my meal which was really off putting for me (I don't eat chicken). Overall, I'd probably come again but I'd stay away from the pad see ew. I gave 3 stars because I swear my first meal here was good... I just can't remember what I ordered. read more

Service is a little slow, but the people that work here are friendly. I came here during the weekday for their lunch special. Their lunch special is a great value. I wish the lunch special came with a soup. I've seen a few Thai places where the lunch special comes with a vegetarian tom yum soup, in addition to the appetizer, entree, salad, and rice. For my lunch I got the green curry chicken and coconut shrimp for the appetizer. The flavor green curry is delicious. I wish the consistency was slightly thicker. The coconut shrimp was really good, not like coconut shrimp you find at American restaurants. However, they do drench the shrimp in lots of sauce. Before you proceed with reading this review, take it from me and never look up similar sounding restaurants on maps when you're hangry. I was supposed to go to a different Thai restaurant but ended up at this one because I mixed up the name of the other restaurant with this one. However, eating at New Thai Bistro turned out to be just what I needed. I came in half an hour before they closed to prep for their dinner service and the owners were kind enough to let me dine in. Two other people also came in slightly after me and they were seated as well, so it's good to know that they don't chase out hungry patrons just to make their cutoff for their hours. I loved the open concept of the dining area. It was quiet and peaceful when I sat down, and I noticed that they had a nice selection of wine as well (perfectly catered towards the Pleasanton demographic). Upon checking in on Yelp, I was pleasantly surprised to find an offer for a free drink (which they called a Mango Seven). I promptly notified my server and she personally marked my check-in offer as used, before letting the staff know to make my drink. Given that I was hangry, I was immediately drawn to the lunch specials. Keep in mind this dine-in experience did not come with prior Yelp research since again I was originally supposed to go to another Thai place, so I had no idea about the price point or menu selections. If you know me you know that I meticulously research my dine-in options before deciding on a place to eat, so going into this experience blind was interesting to say the least. I quickly settled on the chicken gra-prow (basil chicken) lunch special, which came with a choice of appetizer. I chose the Bangkok dumplings, which are chicken and veggie dumplings and come with a ginger/soy sauce dip. My Mango Seven drink was first to arrive, and I was pleased with the simplicity yet refreshing aspect of the beverage. The little cubes of mango were delightful, and it was perfectly fizzy. The sprig of mint on top added the perfect touch. I submerged the mint after receiving my drink so it could infuse. Quite nice for a free drink actually! My lunch special didn't take long to arrive either, and I was very happy to dig in. The side salad was fresh with a tangy dressing, and the Bangkok dumplings were fried perfectly with a great crunch. They came with the dipping sauce already on them, which I didn't mind at all, as that did not detract from the crispiness of the dumplings. The chicken gra-prow was very flavorful and saucy, and I enjoyed the texture of the chicken. The onions and bell peppers that accompanied the dish were also not overcooked and had a nice bite to them. My only comment about the dish would be that it was a little salty for my palate, but overall the flavors were good. I was expecting the rice to be overcooked but it was just fine and I used it to soak up the sauce in the gra-pow. I actually didn't end up finishing the lunch special and took some leftovers home. It may look somewhat small in my photo but I was happy to note that both the entree and the rice portion sizes were great, especially for a $14 lunch special. I also took a cursory look over the main menu and noticed that all of the prices of their dishes are very reasonable, especially for Pleasanton. Most are less than $15 for entrees, when normally you'd expect prices at almost $20 per entree for the area. My only other comment is that I wish they had a wider selection for the lunch specials, but I guess when the prices are already that affordable, there's not as much of a "need" to have lunch specials when you can order full-size entrees for the same price. I would definitely like to come back to support New Thai Bistro and try their other dishes! read more

I used to think that I love Thai food so much that even the worst Thai Food doesnot disappoint. This place proved me wrong. Came here for late dinner because of high number of online reviews. They had reservation available on Yelp so I thought it should be fine around 7:30 pm. The main sign was off so became hard to find the place as it's in a corner. Ambience wise it's a simple place, not too bright, some Thai decor and American music playing. There were two other parties besides us. We ordered Tom Yum soup with Shrimp. Soup was yummy to drink but was full of sweet onion slices so not sure if it was too much onion or the soups that I had at other places didn't contain onions. Panang Curry with chicken which was runny with big pieces of pepper in it. Rice was cold so we asked the lady to heat it up and had to wait for some time to get our rice back. Drunken noodle like other food seemed like dumped on the plate with varying sized tofu cubes. Bottom line: zero presentation and bland food which was very unappetizing. Before we got up the lady started removing condiments and stuff from the table (not the dishes) like she couldn't wait to get us out. Phenomenal! Delicious food, great service, and cute ambiance. Arrived around 7:30pm and the place was packed. The waiter had us look over the menu and had us order before we sat down. We started off with the Roti. I'd give the Roti an 8.5 out of 10. It came with a peanut sauce, yellow curry, and a sweet and sour type sauce. It was delicious and not oily. We also had the cream cheese ragoons. Also a solid 8.5 out of 10. Comforting taste and came with a sweet sauce to dip it in. Now onto the entrees. The Pad Thai special with fried chicken was one of the best Pad Thai's I've ever had. The noodles were nicely cooked and seasoned and the chicken reminded me of a chicken katsu, crispy with a juicy middle. 9 out of 10! The red curry was good but pretty standard, 7.5 out of 10. For the drinks we got a Thai iced tea and a Muy Thai. Both were very refreshing. Overall the food, service, and ambiance were great and we'll be back. read more

This restaurant is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the East Bay. Service is phenomenal, and although they boast high ratings and a great reputation, it's never been overly crowded when I've visited. The menu contains classics like pad thai and panang curry (which is TO DIE FOR) but also specials like fried chicken drunken noodles. We opted for classics, with the addition of a cute cocktail flight from the specials menu. The panang curry was my favorite dish, with generous amounts of eggplant and chicken and just the right amount of spice to it. It doesn't come with rice, but rather than ordering it as a side I opted for the roti. The portions here are amazing! We ate leftovers, which heated up perfectly, for two meals after dining.
