The best pho I've ever had in my LIFE. The portions are SO amazing for the price and everything I've ever tried here is delicious. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff wearing green are amazing. The only con I've had is there is a man here who I believe to be the owner or the manager and his customer service isn't the best he comes off as rude and isn't very welcoming but everyone else is wonderful and I still 100% recommend this place. read more

First impression - upbeat atmosphere. Menu is easy to navigate. A good number of food items without being overwhelming. Decor in the restaurant is cute, as is the bathroom. Clean space and friendly service. Pho broth is already seasoned, so no need for fish sauce. The egg rolls tasted ok. Nothing to rave about. My husband could not eat the barbecue pork with rice. The pork was much too soft and chewy, so we took it home in order to re-cook it. The Thai ice tea had a good ice ratio. At first glance, I thought this would be more authentic Vietnamese food but it is an imitation down to the imitation crab and the powdered drinks. We ordered everything on the menu from the egg rolls, to pho, to vermicelli bowl to the rice plates. Food was nicely presented. Every single plate minus the pho had the shredded lettuce and carrots with the choice of meat. The cup of chicken broth was overly salty. The food was OK. I think the egg rolls were the winner. We sat by the window and saw a trail of ants coming down the wall and one made it on our table. The windows had drapes so we couldn't look out so it was ant watching. Pho Tao Noodle House, on Bellam, at Marin Square in San Rafael, is a five-star experience for the several reasons that qualify a friendly local place ... As soon as you walk into Pho Tao Noodle House you will be delighted with the openness and light of the dining room. The space is spotless and constantly attended by the staff to make sure everything is clean and bright. We were greeted by the manager, Boi, as soon as we walked in, and were cordially invited to sit wherever we liked. Once we were settled, Boi came back and gave us a tutorial on the menu which, to be honest is pretty self-explanatory, with good descriptions of the food, and combination options. The photos were helpful for my guest as she was dining on pho, etc. for the first time. AS for the food, we started with some appetizers...the Shrimp Cakes were lightly fried and tender throughout, we loved these! The Egg Rolls were crispy and packed with vegetable filling. Both of those are a hit. For our entreé, we enjoyed the refreshing and light flavors of the Grilled Chicken with Rice Vermicelli Noodles, which came with freshly made salad. All delicious. We also tried one Thai Iced Tea, and one Vietnamese Coffee (be mindful, it's a jolt of caffeine). Both were delicious and rich. The sealed tops make them perfect for to-go orders. The prices are plainly illustrated on the menu, and are quite fair! There is plenty of parking lot parking, and they have some outdoor seating for those sunny Marin days. Pho Tao is a reliable, accessible, friendly place to get delicious, well priced food, with comfortable surroundings for dining in, and on-line and in-person to-go orders. Came here to eat with my friend since I got out of work late and it seemed like we needed pho. We have driven past this location and we kept saying we have to try it. So we did. As soon as we walked in it was us and two other parties. I was a bit nervous since that's already not a good sign if you believe the signs. we got seated immediately and I went to use the bathroom while my friend read the menu. The bathroom was clean and was stocked. We ordered and the food came out almost immediately! We ordered drinks, I ordered a passion tea with jelly and my friend ordered a Thai ice tea. Both drinks were delicious. Our food? just as great. The staff was super friendly that we even got to talk about the cats on the waiters shirt and his sad story about them. By the time we left this place was packed! I guess we just beat the rush. Such a great place to come eat before you walk around at Ross since its two stores down. Will be returning. Still really like this place but one note about Yelp: The menu prices for ordering on Yelp are 50% higher than at the restaurant. For example $15 pho sells for $22 through Yelp for take out. I'm not sure what accounts for this discrepancy but you might want to just call the restaurant to order and save yourself some money. read more

The ambiance really surprised me. It is beautifully decorated(wallpaper, wicker lights, use of space, clear red chairs. The staff is so friendly. I asked for a recommendation of a rice plate and was told to try the pork. It was super delicious. Fresh vibrant flavors. Poured the sauce and a little of the cilantro soup on the salad and rice (like the gentleman recommended doing). My friend had the veggie pho and was pleased with the abundance of veg. Another friend had the seafood combo pho and said they wasn't to try the beef next time. I've been twice this week and really hope to see them succeed! read more

Super clean & brand new, it has a wonderful modern aesthetic with beautiful lampshades and wallpaper. We were greeted and handed menus as soon as we walked in. The food took a little longer than I expected for pho, but the wait was worth it. We ordered the vegetable pho soup and the chicken vermicelli bowl. They were both HUGE and delicious! Their chili sauce is sooooo good, but the hot pho broth really brought out the spiciness so watch out! Their chicken and meat in general was awesome, super tender & juicy! Egg rolls (4.5/5) were good, decent portion, and reasonably priced. Fried tofu (3.5/5) was okay, also reasonably priced. Pho (4/5) not as many options as other places (I was disappointed to find they don't have tendon at all), but it came out fast, steaming hot, and the broth was deep and full of flavor. I knocked half a star for the limited options and another half star as I felt I didn't get much food and was still hungry. That being said, the quality of the soup itself was actually really good, way better than the other 2 restaurants in the area. * Warning- the freeway exit and entrance is dangerous! Well, I enjoy eating here I struggle to know how many stars to give. I think a firm 3.5 stars. 5 for ambience, 3 for the broth and meats, 4 for sides. I hate to say it, but I was disappointed that the pho lacked some authenticity. Didn't have an option for tendon, oxtail or tripe. Oxtail and tendon makes pho imo. The broth didn't seem as rich as most. The presentation was excellent. The building and decorations were above par. It was cool on a hot day inside. The long hair waiter was excellent. Actually all staff were pleasant and attentive. The shrimp cakes were crispy and flavorful. The pho sides were fresh and abundant. I've tried this place repeatedly and it doesn't seem to be trending in the right direction. Previously they've forgotten my noodles when I've made special notes to my order so I stopped doing that. Today I just picked up an order to go of wonton soup. I just got home and I'm extremely disappointed to find the smallest possible portion of noodles and all of my wontons are no longer in their wrapping. Just meatballs with the wonton bit torn up inside the box. On top of that I didn't get a single leaf of basil etc to toss in. Sure the place looks nice but the pho isn't remotely close to being flavorful enough to carry on its own/ make up for mistakes or shorting folks like this. This place is wonderful if you're not a vegetarian or don't eat pork or beef products. The vegetarian pho we got was HUGE, you could definitely share it but it was a bit boring. There was 3 of us and we all ended up getting the same thing since there were no other options.. I ended up adding a ton siracha and chile spices. It would be nice if they offered some veggie starters and spicy pho that doesn't have pork in it. I would come back because it was delicious and the leftovers were great too! read more

Phô: that's the name and that's their specialty. San Rafael now has an additional Phô location: at the same Marin Square as the Grocery Outlet, Ross, and Sally's - it's pleasing to see the pedestrian number increase, and that's in part due to the new Phô in town! It's a bright exterior, all newly built, plenty of seating available inside and out. The seating and menu were immediately provided, and although I hesitated looking for the spring rolls (which they do not have on menu currently), as soon as I ordered my soup it was ready (of course)! Phô Tai (the basic beef with noodles and broth) is my personal go-to since feasting at my friend's houses and living in an area during college near a wealth of Vietnamese culture and restaurants, so of course that's my recommendation! I ordered a side of chicken to add to my protein and for a work-snack later. The chicken arrived fresh off the grill, with a sautéing sauce one would hope for from a Vietnamese kitchen. All good! Pho has another location in Vallejo (Pho 1) which I frequent fairly often. I always get the beef stew. It's tasty, hearty and filling. So, when I found out about this new location, I immediately went for the beef stew (lol). Service is fast and friendly. The restaurant itself is spacious, clean and tastefully done with an understated cool factor which is a nice touch. The only thing that could be construed as a drawback is that the menu isn't as large as some other pho places. read more

If someone brought this food home and I didn't know where it came from, I would've been hard pressed to say it was Vietnamese. The chicken had a nice (unusual) flavor. This is now the best pho spot in all of marin. Very simple menu to streamline the process. Fast orders, and good food. They have less variety of options but im sure its so marin residents aren't weirded out but too much real culture. Soup is clear, crisp and flavorful.
