It was a hot day and I felt the air conditioner was not on high enough and it was warm inside. I went with 3 other people. I ordered the spring rolls which came with shrimp. The peanut sauce lacked flavor and overall the spring rolls were okay but weren't anything special. I also ordered the pork and shrimp rice plate. Others in my party ordered soups and a chicken and vegetable rice plate. When I got my order, I was a bit disappointed there were only two thin pieces of pork. It was a pretty small portion and I felt like they skimped on my portion size. The 2 soups that were ordered were large portions and the other chicken and vegetable rice plate had way more food also. The pork and shrimp had good grilled/BBQ flavor but was a bit salty for me. I did really like the pickled carrots, radish, and a cabbage pickled with red peppers. I was surprised my plate came with a soup because it didn't say on the menu. It was a clear chicken broth which was plain and simple but had really good favor. Overall, my experience was okay. The service was okay. We weren't ready to order yet the first time and they took a while to come back to take our order even though there wasn't anyone else in the restaurant. They didn't really check on us until way later to see how the food was and to refill water but they did bring us the check. We ended up going up the counter to pay for the meal. The small amount of pork was disappointing considering the portion of the other dishes. I would consider trying this place again if I pass through. read more

I've been here twice now, and the food definitely does not disappoint. The portions are large, and I love that they offer a Hot and Sour Seafood Pho. We don't have any Pho Hoa in the Sacramento area, and this restaurant comes really close to a similar pho noodle bowl to the seafood bowl that I crave. They also sell Bahn Mi and a diverse number of rice plates. This is definitely a gem for the San Rafael area and was perfect for dinner after visiting Angel Island. read more

Despite the fact that this restaurant was recommended to me by a trusted friend years ago, I have walked by it so many times without actually going in...I am glad that I finally tried it for dinner today! My friend and I were immediately seated in a cozy booth in the corner. A courteous staff member quickly took our order - we both chose vermicelli bowls with egg rolls, my friend got one with pork and I got chicken. Our food came out right away and was delicious. It's been years since we have been here and it's better than we remembered. The service was amazing and friendly. Our food was delicious. There is street parking available and seating was quick, although we arrived shortly after 5 pm. My husband had fried spring rolls, fried chicken, lemon aid, and the seafood hot pot with rice. I had the fresh rolls with shrimp. Both of us took home lots of leftovers. The fried chicken was excellent and not greasy. The spices were delightful and not overwhelming. It was perfectly crispy. The spring rolls were also very good and crispy with a nice mix of flavors. The real star was the seafood hot pot! So many great pieces of shrimp, seafood, mushrooms, peppers, bok choy, onion, and the best light broth. I kept sneaking my fork into my husband's bowl for more and I'm usually not a big fan. My fresh rolls were both generous and excellent. I appreciated the delicate balance between the romaine and mint with the fresh vermicelli. The shrimp were thinly sliced and fresh. Lately, Marin has seen an influx of Asian-inspired restaurants, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese and more. Even lowly Novato just got a new Ramen house (Yosumi) thanks to Pearl and her family. And of course La Maison de la Riene recently moved from Corte Madera to Novato as well, which is great! San Rafael has a number of choices for Pho including the new Pho by the main post office, but I have to say that my all-time favorite after 20 years in Marin continues to be Saigon Kitchen. Their breadth of offerings, from noodle soup to rice plates and more is almost laughable - it takes forever just to go through their menu. And EVERYTHING I've tried there is always delicious. I almost always order the wonton noodle soup, and I always get the small size - I can't imagine who could finish the large! The venue is so interesting. The back garden is wonderful, with the huge Koi tank and the assortment of plants growing in and around the patio. I love sitting out there in the summertime. The indoor seating area behind the register is becoming a bit of a motorcycle shop with three large tool cribs that mostly seem to be used a filing cabinets! The staff are amazingly helpful and friendly, and are very welcoming and patient with my elderly dad. Kudos. We'll keep coming back weekly. read more

The inside is a low key casual spot that is darker. Service is typical and the food is very good. We enjoy the vermicelli, rice plates, and the beef stew. I have eaten here twice, the second time by accident. My first time I Yelped Saigon Village, I noted the four stars and followed in my craving for a sandwich to San Rafael. I was rewarded with a tasteless bahn mi sandwich on stale bread, with barely any flavor. Very disappointing. I ate inside the restaurant, which appeared to be an older restaurant without regular maintenance, and it was a warm day and I remember a lot of flies. I'm fine with a bit of a dilapidated spot if the food is good, but unfortunately that was not the case. I opted not to write it up at the time, and went back to my life, searching for good Vietnamese food in Marin, which regularly feels like looking for the proverbial unicorn. But today I ordered food again via an App (Uber Eats) and although I forgot the name, my memory was refreshed when the food arrived. Same stale bread, same food quality, a very bad bahn mi sandwich and a mostly lettuce filled poorly constructed fresh spring roll. I came here for the first time recently after having driven by here many times. One of my dining companions was wanting Vietnamese food, and I suggested Saigon Village after finding this place on Yelp. The people working here seemed very eager to have us as customers and suggested sitting in their dining patio out back. It was casual but nice and relaxing, other than the loud cars/machines we would hear every now and then. Our table had napkins, sauce, and silverware on hand. For my order I got their grilled chicken banh mi and their mango smoothie. I also got to try the spring roll that my dining companion ordered. Everything tasted really good! My banh mi in particular had nice crunchy toasted bread and the chicken was delicious. It was very filling. Came in around 11:30 for lunch. Super quiet and cute place with good service. Parking is either on the street or right next store for safeway. Got the #2 and my friend got the #1 and they were both good! My only complaint was the noodles were really mushy. This time was completely different. The service was very attentive, personable and friendly. The pho was even better. One of the best I've ever had! When I go to Vietnamese lunch, I almost always order a seafood Pho. I've never had one that had as much seafood as this one. Fresh, plentiful, flavorful. So. Good. My husband had a beef Pho, and was as complimentary as I was about mine. This is a good example of giving a second chance to an otherwise bad experience.
