    Beef cube with lemongrass
    Christina W.

My partner and I were craving Vietnamese food, so we stumbled upon Pho Top, one of the pho spots that weren't closed on Mondays. The restaurant was empty at around 6:30PM. The interior was lovely, but that was about it. We ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls, Beef Cube / Beef Flank With Lemongrass Over Rice, and a Bun Bo Hue. The spring rolls came out first, but it was lacking in flavor. As mentioned in other reviews, the wraps are more like egg roll wrappers, but the taste was overall bland. The beef cube came out next. It was fairly small in comparison to other Vietnamese restaurants we've been to. The beef also tasted like really poor quality beef. The texture was a bit off, but the flavor was okay. Now for my Bun Bo Hue, I recommend anyone that's had this dish, to literally never get it from this place. The broth is so watered down and tasteless. While I was expecting to be hit with spicy, salty, and savory flavors, I was hit with a bland broth. There was no spice to it whatsoever, just a red color, so maybe it was red chili oil? I was so disappointed. To add to my disappointment, their music taste consisted of jazz-like covers of popular songs. Imagine my face when a slow and jazz rendition of Hotline Bling started playing. It was obvious this spot isn't an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. It's overpriced and a huge miss.

Straight fish sauce with melted sugar - no garlic or red pepper for flavor

By far the worst pho spot I've been to. This should be called Pho Bottom instead. The pho broth was extremely watered down with absolutely no beef bone flavor whatsoever. It's like they use a few bouillon cubes and called it a day. There was a mountain of endless noodles and a few slices of beef! What a rip off for the lunch special price too. Major disappointment if you are looking for some authenticity. Spring roll?? How are you gonna advertise the real Vietnamese spring roll on your menu and bring out some egg roll looking wrappers!? It did not even have the right ingredients on the inside. On top of that it was extremely salty. Their fish sauce dip is a disaster.. where is garlic and red pepper?? This is fish sauce and melted sugar. Thai tea at a Vietnamese restaurant? It was really watered down to the point you don't taste any tea flavor. You taste the condensed milk. Pork chop was not grilled at all.. it was super oily, fatty and chewy. Popcorn chicken - out all the dishes I ordered this was the best. Crispy but salty

Service - 4/5 (Meeting Expectations) Not bad service. Food came out quickly and server were informative. Food Quality - 2.5/5 (Below Expectations) Pho is little bland side, sort of diluted a bit too much. Pho should have a rich, complex, and balanced flavor profile. The Bánh Mì were good, though there could be a little more protein. My friend got the beef dish and unfortunately it was chewy instead of melting/easy to eat in your mouth. Sanitation - 5/5 (Exceeding Expectations) Shown no sign of unsanitary practices. Menu was clean. Portion Size and Value: 2/5 (Below Expectations) Unfortunately, $16 for a pho with lots of rice noodles is pretty expensive, especially when the quality doesn't match with the price. Overall this is an okay place. Would like to see continued progress on developing a deeper flavor in the pho and improving portion sizes.

A good addition to the town with pho/vietnamese offering. Friendly staff and tasty pho. We also had the spring roll which was flavorful.

It's nice to have a Pho noodle in this neighborhood. The soup base is not rich enough but it's acceptable. Popcorn chickens are quite good.

Basically went as expected - wanted to support a new local business and give them a shot. Biggest disappointment for me was the menu had pictures of rice paper Vietnamese spring rolls which are known to be crispy and chewy at the same time. These were not those but rather the cheaper variant. Felt bait and switched. Pho was alright but the portion was pathetic for the cost of 16 for the bowl. 5 paper thin slices of beef and a handful of noodles. Not worth it at all, won't be returning.

Good food with good services. The decoration is ok. People may complain about the price is too high. I thought that reflected how is the town code inspector working attitude. It is not easy to open business at that town. Please come to support.

Newly opened in my neighborhood. Nice atmosphere, good service. Slightly overpriced. Pork chop taste ok. I'm not sure if the 10% off is because I said I barely had 3 super thin beef tendon in the noodle soup, the soup taste like salted water. Maybe will order take out pork chop over rice next time instead of dine-in.

We also have little toddlers who like drawing on their paper table covering - nothing to do with the food, just means I don't have to pack an activity for them :) We used to also LOVE their summer rolls but as of mid 2025 they have shrunken in size significantly. I'm of the school: if you must, just charge me more, but maintain consistency in quality and in this case quantity. Their fried spring rolls are still great. Their bahm mi is really hit or miss. Half the time they don't even offer it and when they do, it's either really really good or sometimes it leaves you wondering where's the rest of the filling?! The two guys running the place are your standard Asian restaurant servers, but the older server can be super friendly, funny, and engaging. However, you can clearly see the fuzzy pepper in the picture I took before digging in. I got the lunch special, which features a drink, app, and entree. The lemonade was nice and fresh tasting, the crispy wings were fantastic, and the banh mi was actually very tasty. Not the best I've had, but it was flavorful and the pickled veggies tasted fresh. I was very disappointed to find a moldy pepper, which ultimately ruined the experience for me. Hopefully, nothing I actually ate was bad, and this pepper was the only one that went missed in a kitchen check. On our last visit, we decided to go all out and order everything we wanted to try (aside from the signature pho, which we had the first time). The appetizer were quite pricey - 2 pieces of beef mushroom roll for $5 and 1 gaibi (braised beef rib) for $11. The gaibi was dry and hard to eat on the bone even though they provided gloves and a knife. The pork chop as a side was $15 for 2 pieces and also on the dryer side. It was seasoned well but I really wished it was juicier. My favorite part of the meal was the smoky beef bun cha platter. The beef was thinly sliced and tasted sweet like bulgogi. The noodles were served with a cold dipping sauce, which contains fish sauce. I enjoyed the noodles but wished they were easier to separate. Lastly, the spicy intestine pho was my least favorite. I personally do not like small intestines so it was not the dish for me. The soup was not very spicy and tasted like the offals. Overall, this is not a classic Vietnamese restaurant so you'll be disappointed if that's what you're expecting. I'd recommend coming here if you are looking for a Korean twist on Vietnamese food.

This place feels like a hidden gem you almost want to keep secret... but it's just too good not to share. What makes Pho Metro stand out right away is how authentic it feels. You can tell this is truly a labor of love. One guy runs the show and somehow manages to do it all, from cooking to serving, and the care he puts into the food absolutely shows in every single bite. It has that comforting, homemade quality that makes you feel like you've stepped into a small family kitchen rather than just another restaurant. The food itself is outstanding. Everything tastes incredibly fresh, from the herbs to the broth. I highly recommend the thin noodles with the spicy lemongrass broth (you can request this if it's not listed). It's bursting with flavor, slightly tangy, perfectly spicy, and deeply savory in a way that warms you from the inside out. Every spoonful feels like a cozy blanket on a cold day. The summer rolls are another must-order. They're fresh, light, and packed with flavor, and the peanut sauce that comes with them is absolutely delicious. It's rich, savory, and addictive enough that you'll find yourself scraping the cup to get every last drop. Another detail I really appreciated is how everything you need is right at your fingertips. All the sauces are readily available at the table, so you can customize your bowl exactly how you like it without having to ask or wait. It makes the whole experience feel easy, comfortable, and welcoming. And don't skip the Thai iced tea. It's perfectly sweet, creamy, and refreshing, especially alongside the bold flavors of the pho. It's the kind of drink that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. Overall, this place delivers on flavor, authenticity, and heart. It's rare to find a spot where you can truly taste the effort and pride in every dish, but Pho Metro does exactly that. I will absolutely be returning again and again. They are both always seasoned very well and make a delicious meal. However, the price seems to have increased tremendously for the side of pork chop (almost doubled since they first opened). Also its surprising because every time I go the place is pretty packed and occasionally there is a wait. What's also a shame, for me, is that on my recent visit my friend ordered the Steamed Seafood in Lemongrass and this is perhaps the top, or one of the top dishes on the menu. The seafood flavors and balances the slightly spicy lemongrass broth making this a crave worthy bowl. I ordered something out of my wheelhouse - the Coconut Spicy Lemongrass Soup, which on online order menu states its a popular dish. I couldn't see why this dish is so popular because I find other items on the menu superior. They make a tasty pho (especially when paired with a marrow bone). Their sandwiches are well made - I enjoy the different fish ones. I think their Vietnamese coffee could use some work - it is blander than other versions I had tried. Don't be too sad and maybe feel a little optimistic because owner Petra Rickman has a great track record opening interesting, in demand restaurants (This one and Taco Azul have been longtime go-tos in Whitestone). Additionally G&L has a 2nd location with the same menu in Manhattan, which unfortunately for a Queens boy like myself is a bridge too far and a congestion pricing too high for me to make the trek.
