Chili oil wontons, nice flavor. Not much heat
    Jeannie T.

3.5 stars for the soft opening, with just so many items not available on the day we visited, it was hard to review this place as I was sad to not get what I came for. I went there excited to get fried dumplings, knowing the Flushing counterpart is famous for them (and I've frequented). But it was not available, with staff saying they didn't have. I also tried to order a side order of egg but that was not available either! So now turned around, I opted for the chili oil wontons and a pork wontons with soup. There's also not much seating available except 8 counter seats. No standard tables, it's a very small space. Room for improvement and I do like that I'm not fighting the lines of their Flushing location so I'll definitely return to see if they've improved.

The white window shades made it look like they're closed but they are indeed OPEN!

I had high hopes for White Bear in Great Neck! Nice to not have to schlep all the way into downtown Flushing! But sadly, my expectations weren't met. I'll chalk it up to growing pains since they just opened 2 weeks ago! I truly hope they improve. On this visit, on a Friday at Noon, half of their already limited menu, wasn't available. Not sure what the problem was but their basic pan fried dumplings weren't even available! This is what I ordered: -- Wontons in Hot Oil ($18/20pcs): these were ok; considering that they were swimming in the hot oil, the hot oil didn't really seem to be spicy at all. Go figure! Definitely add some Sriracha if you want spicy! -- Dan Dan Noodles ($10): these were also just ok; again, not spicy and just lacking in flavor. No restrooms and limited stool seating; they can only seat 8 people at wall-facing counter seating. This is definitely a quick-bite or takeout place. But still, much nicer than their Flushing store, which is strictly takeout with no seating at all. So this is an improvement! lol Customer service was friendly and efficient. Dining area was clean. I'll give them some grace since they just opened. I plan to give them some time before a return visit, and hope that they improve. Looking forward to a full menu and bolder flavors! Welcome to the neighborhood and good luck!

This new location for White Bear is minimumlistic! BEAR bone place on the outside and the inside. Yes, they are open for business! There is only four stooges on the left and four on the right. Not comfortable; just eat and go; or just go and eat somewhere else. We decided to go eat at Firefighters Park since it was a nice day. Today half the menu wasn't available; something was not working right in the kitchen. I tried the bowl of Peking style noodles and some dumplings. Dumplings are marginally better. I would rate the bowl of noodles average. Weak in flavor.

Ordered takeout (just a few stools inside to sit). This is a no frills place that focuses on a few dishes, but they are very good! The leek and pork dumpling was excellent, juicy and a lot of flavor. The braised port with noodles was excellent, I could have eaten two of them. The braised pork tasted so good and the noodles were great. The wonton soup was great, best around in my opinion. Some items were not available, which is tough when the menu is small. Assume they will work out the kinks though. Great option for takeout, I believe this is an extension of a long running place in Flushing, so not surprised it's good. Give them a try!

Week 2 of White Bear being open in great neck Disappointing to see that more than half the menu is always unavailable. They should've just announced their debut as a soft opening. The first time I came was at 5pm and I saw a sign saying they closed because they sold out. The second time I came an hour after opening and only 4 of the 10+ products on the menu were available. Today, I came again at 6pm and only two products were available.. The food tastes great don't get me wrong, but very disappointing that they just are missing more than half their menu. They don't even make it obvious what's available. I overheard the cashier tell another customer "sold out" for four different items before the customer bursted "so what DO you have" In terms of waiting.. they're a lot slower than the flushing location. Expect to wait 20mins for your order if the store looks like my photos. Also the environment just feels kind of tense. It's dead silent and feels like everyone is a little miserable waiting. I think they should play some chill music inside I hope to update this to five stars when they eventually buy ingredients for the rest of their menu

I've had the wontons many times from their Flushing location- so glad they finally opened a White Bear on Long Island. I got 2 orders of the 20 piece wontons with chili oil, cabbage with pork pan fried dumplings, Taiwanese braised pork- 1 over noodle & 1 over rice. Everything was ready in 10 minutes. The guy who took my order was very friendly and helpful. Pretty pricey & portions were rather small but all the food was good. The wontons were flavorful and perfectly balanced with non-spicy chili oil, green onions & pickled mustard greens. Dumplings were crispy, juicy & greasy, braised pork was tender but oily & could use a little more seasoning- it was kind of bland, egg didn't have any soy sauce flavor and the noodle supposed to come with bok choy as pictured- came with pickled radish instead. I would definitely come back again for the dumplings & wontons :)

This is not a sit down place. Food is average. Convenient to order wontons and noodles on the go. Service is friendly. Dan Dan noodles should be more Al dente and less salty.

We ate in this time to try out the pan fried dumplings and they were done perfectly! Crispy outside and juicy inside! Taiwanese braised pork was very authentic and delicious. Of course I had to order my favorite wontons with spicy sauce. The service was prompt and friendly. At 7pm on a Monday night, there were plenty of seats. This is going to be a regular place for us for sure

Welcome to great neck by way of flushing we welcome White Bear and their famous wontons. Just wait 10 min and it's like magic. The soup is killer too with the hot oil

Chili wontons, not spicy at all, but they have sriracha on standby.

My eyes lit up when I saw the menu. The owners are from Tainan, Taiwan which is often consider the culinary capital of Taiwan with many iconic traditional dishes and flavors. The restaurant is spacious but it does not have many table seatings (3-5 tables?). When we came it wasn't busy so we got a spot but we did see many people coming in for their takeout orders. The oldies they play at the restaurant take me back to my childhood. The place is structured very interestingly where it's an open kitchen so you can actually easily see how they prep the food in the back. We ordered: - oyster omelette pancake - mung wort kueh (4 pieces) - danzai noodle - mixed spice platter The oyster omelette was the highlight! The bottom is crispy and they use a generous amount of oysters. It's the most authentic oyster pancake I've had in the east coast. Alot of other "Taiwanese spots" don't make it correctly. I also love the mung wort kueh (hard to find places that sell this) - it's a fun snack to take to go. It's a savory mochi bun with shredded radish as the main ingredient. The danzai noodle is an iconic dish from Tainan. Its main star consists of the one shrimp and the marinated ground braised pork. Although I would prefer the dry version but they serve the soup version here. The broth tastes very clear and clean, doesn't feel like it's dosed with salt and MSG. We got the mixed platter - an iconic street food in Tainan is 滷味 (Lou Wei) which is consist of different ingredients tossed and braised in a soy-based spice sauce. They have a nice selection of Lou Wei options and the platter we got had pork belly, duck neck, tofu skin, and lotus roots. The spicy duck neck can be intimidating for those that have never had it but it is fun to eat. There are so many items on there that I can't wait to try. For first timer, definitely get the oyster pancake and Luroufan! I can't wait to come back and try more of the traditional Taiwanese dishes. They also have frozen dumplings that you can buy to go. 50 pieces for $28-$30 is a pretty good price!

I ordered the beef noodle soup and the popcorn chicken. The beef noodle soup came out first--the bowl was massive, though the portion itself felt just okay for the size. The popcorn chicken was very tasty, but what confused me was that it wasn't hot when it arrived. It felt like it had been sitting out for a bit. My guess is they prepared the chicken first and held it while waiting for the soup so both dishes could come out together. Overall, the flavors were very good. The pricing is on the higher side, especially compared to Flushing. That said, if you're looking for a quick bite and don't want to make the trip out there, this place definitely gets the job done.

The chef is formerly from Ku Shain Taiwanese Restaurant from Flushing back in the days. I am in love with their Taiwanese Style Fried Rice Noodle. This dish alone keeps me coming back. Their Fried Popcorn Chicken is also quite yummy. Mince Pork Over Rice is hot or miss for some reason. With that said, I feel that their stir fry dishes falls a bit short compared to some of their competitors. Two of my favorite dishes, Fly Heads (too greasy) and Sautéed Kidney (overcooked), are somewhat underwhelming. I am also not a fan of their Beef Noodle Soup and Thread Noodle Soup. Anyway, I do like enough dishes here that I would come back to keep trying more of the menu. I'm always glad that we have more options for Taiwanese food, and I hope this restaurant stays around.

We were also able to park right out front, which was super convenient! A huge shout-out to Daniel, who showed us incredible hospitality! Even though the restaurant was full and he was managing the front solo, he handled everything with such grace.
