I've been here a few times but I always tell myself I'm never coming back :( I live 5 minutes away so when it's 9pm and I just got done with a work out I'm on the hangry side. Every time I come here there are different people working. The service is unfriendly and they do not make you feel welcome. At least they didn't scold us for coming in at 9pm (1 hour before closing). Some people started walking in at 9:15 and you can tell they didn't want them to dine in. We sat in the corner and at 9:15 they literally started mopping next to us while we were eating. I read the previous reviews so knew this was coming but at that point I was done eating and lost my appetite. We ordered the vermicelli bowl which was decent and the pork rice plate. The pork rice plate came with a few slabs of pork. The least they could've done was cut it into bite sized pieces OR provide a knife. It was also very chewy which made it impossible to cut with chopsticks or a fork. My pork and egg roll vermicelli bowl had a variety of noodles, pork, lettuce, radish, bean sprout, and cucumber. The biggest disappointment is that their egg rolls do not come with meat and is very doughy. Also, we ordered a little cup of broth. We had to remind them a few times that we ordered it before it actually came and when it finally did it was too hot. So hot it burned my mouth. It's also SO oily and you can feel the grease on your lips. I would never come here for their pho because their broth is flavorless. Everything here tastes fishy and not in a good way. I can't figure out how they have four stars because the only thing that I agree with on those reviews is that the portions are huge. That however doesn't matter when you can't finish the food because it doesn't taste good. I don't know what their dipping sauce is but it smells and tastes like rancid fish and that flavor carries onto whatever you order. The service was good and I think that may be to some negative yelp feedback from previous visitors. We had our water before we even sat down and they were nice and friendly the whole time. Pho World is our go-to-place when we're craving a nice hot bowl of Pho. #12 is our favorite. Steve (owner) is a gracious host and takes time to chat with guests, but lunch time can be hectic at times when the restaurant is full. Another favorite of ours are the Spring Rolls (the soft, see-thru ones with shrimp), but we'll order the deep-fried rolls from time to time. The broth is the most important thing to me, however I don't eat all of it because.. sodium. You can tell by the color of broth how rich it is and how long it's been simmering. Some places their broth taste watered down and added salt with no body. I also like that it's not heavily Anise flavored. Anise can be really strong and overpowering. The portions are pretty decent. I used to come here often when I lived closer as their pho was one of my favorites in the area but today when I stopped by I was quite disappointed. I got a small pho with a variety of meats and the soup was very bland. The rice dish hubby got was supposed to be grilled pork but was presented with a gravy like sauce which I'd never seen before at a Vietnamese restaurant. The pork itself was super tough and not tender at all. Rice that came with it was hard and seemed not thoroughly cooked. What a disappointment coming back to this place. Service and food quality, really went down hill tremendously (I heard there's a new owner) We've order a small pho Dac biet, a "grilled beef" rice plate and Pepsi. The server forgot the soda, when we reminded him, he acted annoyed and went grab it with some attitude. I'm used to poor customer service in casual Vietnamese restaurants, so that is not a surprise for me. But at checking out, the cashier was so busy talking on the phone and at one point, I thought she said DM (curse word in Vietnamese) to me. Well, conversations like that should be conducted in a private place, not in front of customers. Anyways... Now let's talk about the food. "Grilled beef" plate that we ordered - the beef was thinly chopped and looked/ tasted stir fried. I'm not a chef but how are you supposed to grill meat with that cut? When I asked the server if it was a right order, he said yes and mentioned that's how it done here. Then I heard him later asking the kitchen if it's grilled beef. WOW! I didn't see him again afterwards to confront him. I was so disappointed in my pho anyways that I didn't want to finish and just wanted to get out of there ASAP.
