I'm really disappointed in this place. Ordered the drunken noodles. First off, the description said the entree had Thai basil but there was absolutely none in my dish. The noodles were a bit hard, they probably could have cooked it for another full minute and it would have been good to eat. The chicken on the other hand, was actually overcooked, super dry and no seasoning. Lastly the flavor overall was not there. I had to use a lot of sriracha sauce, which I rarely ever do. Authentic Pho, small kind of self service place but everything we've had is good, and I am pretty picky.

I stumbled upon this is a family owned restaurant with a tasty menu. I had a Wonton Soup, a Swrimp Noodle Salad and later an Avocado and Honeydew Smothie (with bubbles). Delicious! Great service too. A welcome respite on the road back from Yosemite. I ordered the bun bo hue. The soup hit the spot even if it was missing all the nasties (pork knuckle, blood). They threw in some tendon (I assume from the pho) so it was all good. They've got a kids menu with orange chicken; that made my kids happy. This place is Solid. I am so happy Madera has a solid Vietnamese Food establishment now!!!! The Chicken Pho is my classic go to favorite, HOWEVER....THE UDON NOODLE STIR FRY IS THE BOMB!!!!!!!!!!! Udon noodles are thicker, chewy noodles that with the beef and veggies in the stir fry is GREAT! So glad we FINALLY have a Vietnamese restaurant in town! Don't get me wrong Mexican food is awesome, but this is a nice change :) FOOD: Best pho I've had in the area (beats all Fresno locations). Everything is MSG free, yet surprisingly very flavorful. The shrimp wontons with egg noodles is my favorite dish so far. Their stir fry foods are a little too sweet for my taste (I've tried the beef chow fun & chicken stir fry over crispy noodles) The BOBA: I've only tried the Thai ice tea slushy. They gave me the option of adding milk or water (I confusingly chose milk) WAYY too milky. Boba was a little hard. SERVICE: I usually don't have high expectations from Pho restaurants, but the staff is friendly and attentive. AMBIANCE: Clean and casual. Setup is similar to any typical pho place with self serve sauces and utensils on the table. PRICE: Reasonable. The pho is cheap (Mostly 4.99). The stir-fry costs a little more (~6.99) read more

Best cuts of sliced beef in any pho I ever had, plentiful too. Broth was ok, not the most flavorful I have tasted, even compared to store bought, maybe it was watered down. The broth was not hot either, just really warm. Noodles were ok, mushier than I'm used to, not much in the bowl either. Good amount of condiments. Service was not great or pleasant and they served our meals almost 12 minutes apart instead of together, which is weird on date night. Not my worst food experience in Madera. We couldn't be happier to find a pho house in tiny Madera, nearby Springhill Suites that we were staying. I judge good service if they bring out fresh bean sprouts, basils and lime and we were impressed. The vegetables were not only fresh, but also in a generous amount! The noodle soup was delicious especially when they have "No MSG Added" signs up on the wall and the soup still tasted authentic and sweet! We were starving after a day's hike at Yosemeti, the pho and grilled pork were satisfying and delicious. I hope this little gem will continue to shine in Madera so if we come visit again, we can enjoy their food again. read more

Sadly (and fortunately for it), Pho'dera has become the highlight of my business trips to Madera (when I'm too lazy to do the Fresno Madera drive every morning). I'm a sucker for Asian food and it's my little piece of home away from home. I consider myself a regular since I usually have at least a third of my meals here. I even ordered to go (I know, I've committed this sin more than a couple times) the other night and the soup somehow managed to hold its heat. On that thought, I wish I ordered some tonight - would make this cold I've been battling a lot less miserable. The meat to noodles ratio is fair, garnishes always fresh, and yes love that they don't use MSG. It's always super busy during lunch so be patient. Now they're opened seven days a week on request of customers - why any restaurant would close on Saturdays anyway beats me. read more

Tried this place when it first opened with my mom and sister. Since Madera never has a lot of variety when it comes to places to eat at, we were really excited to see something different, especially because my entire family and I love Asian cuisine. The restaurant was clean enough and the atmosphere was nice. I ordered noodles on a beef broth, and I didn't care for it when I got it. There was nothing wrong with it, I just didn't care for it. It took a while but I flagged down a waitress and asked if I could order something else. I told her we'd pay for it but I'd like something else to eat. She looked at me as if I had grown another head. I had to explain to her several times that I wanted something else and finally she said okay. I ordered orange chicken and she went to put the order in. As I'm sitting there waiting, I overhear her telling the woman at the cash register about me. I got my food and it was terrible. The orange chicken had absolutely no flavor. Terrible experience and haven't gone back since. Was not at all impressed with the food, and the service was horrible. Came here for lunch. Place was super clean which is a major plus for a spot in this town. Ordered pho with brisket and flank, had a little piece of tripe in there which is icky to me but I fished it out with the chopsticks. Broth was a little on the watery side and I kept getting an undertone which I'm pretty sure was anis. Not a big fan of anis but overall I think it's probably the best choice in town so far for any type of Asian food and the soup bowls are very generous. Had the Vietnamese coffee which was very strong. I don't mind strong coffee but was just too sweet with the condensed milk. read more

Pho'dera is awesome! No MSG means no headache for me after the meal! The place is very clean and neat in appearance and decorated just right. Dishes are all matching and not chipped, not plastic and tastefully selected. The food was 5 star! My husband had his usual Pho selection of mixed seafood. The mix was balanced, flavorful, and a good value for the cost. I had chicken vegetable with steamed rice. The chicken pieces were all hot and recognizable as chicken (I've had mystery looking chicken at other pho places) the veggies were tender crisp to perfection and the sauce was just right. Tasty food, fast service. I stopped by to grab lunch after an appointment nearby. I ordered the pork Bahn Mi and some bbq pork buns to take home. The bahn mi bread was soft with a good crunchy crust and the sandwich was packed with veggies. The pork was a little dry, but the hot sauce they provided was delicious. As for the pork buns, the dough was a little chewy and not soft and pillowy. The pork was good well with good flavor and there was a good amount of meat in each bun. I prefer Houng Lan's bahn mi, but when I don't feel like driving to Fresno, this is a tasty and cheaper alternative. Will definitely be going back to try more of their menu. Wanted some vietnamese cruisine for lunch and this was the closes deal. Came in and there was only one other table occupied. Nice cleane place with a flatscreen all the way in the corner. Asked the waitress what are the specialties here. Didnt think she understood me, she pointed straight at the house special. Ordered the house special pho. Loved that the dish was huge for the price, but broth was a little bland. I ordered my beef flank on the side and it came out frozen. Saw that more peopled ordered togo than dine-in. I also had a coffee togo, but the waitress forgot about it. Had to remind her. Overall the place has potential, just a little tuning to the dishes. I had a terrible experience at Pho'dera this afternoon, I have to say my worst experience at a restaurant ever. I had previously tried eating here a couple days ago but when we arrived on a Saturday evening there were three other tables who looked like they hadn't been helped yet and there was only one server who appeared flustered. We were sat down but after waiting some time we decided to go elsewhere (we were quite hungry). As we got up to leave the owner/boss said, "We'll take your order right now!" We replied "No thank you, we'll be back another time." Today we decided to give it a shot. We walked in at around 3pm there was a different server this time. She gave us menus and told us she'd be right with us. She went on to take I believe a take out order on the phone& then after proceeded to speak with the boss. There weren't other guests in the restaurant. However we sat there again without being regarded for a long time, I believe she forgot about us. I waited a little more til I finally told her we were ready to order. I had a couple questions about some of the dishes and she was absolutely clueless about the menu. Her reply was "I don't know, yea I don't, knooww." and stared blankly at the menu instead of going to the cook or boss to ask for us. I ended up ordering the vegetable chow fun and my sister ordered the vegetable pho. The pho was served immediately and my sister and I shared it. The pho is nothing special it's pretty standard it's what u expect. My only complaint for the pho is that vegetables weren't fresh they were looking brownish. After 20 min we finished the pho and I thought hmmm they must've forgotten the chow fun but that's ok we were both full. Right on queue the cook rushes out with the chow fun plate. Visually the plate looked like a pile of rubbish. Same as the pho the vegetables were brown and there were barely any noodles it was more like a pile of brown cabbage and onion not very chow FUN. When I tasted it it was salty and had a sort of beef broth flavor. I'm vegan and I avoid these animal products. Concerned i went to the counter and told him that the noodles were way too salty and asked him about the sauce. He assured me it was soy sauce but he took the plate to the back I thought he might offer to remake it or replace it with a different dish but when he returned from the kitchen he said "Nothing is wrong with it we checked it's ok." I said ok well I don't want it. He stood in front of the table took a spoon dug it in the plate to take some of the sauce and slurped and said "Ya look see nothing's wrong with it it's not salty." After he ate out of my plate he had the audacity to tell me if I wanted a box to take it home instead! I told him I don't want it and rather just take the bill. I went to the counter to pay he charged me for the chow not fun and the pho. Outraged I protested that I wasn't going to pay for it. He said "This isn't an American restaurant. You still have to pay for it." Long story short after debating with him I got a three dollar discount and had to pay the rest. Complete bs. This guy and his servers lack customer service skills. The food lacks flavor and service is subpar I will never return to this restaurant and I advice you guys to reconsider stepping foot here. read more
