It's a well lit, nice sized establishment. I was in the area for work, so of course I searched for my usual, Pho. I tried this place out, and my mind was blown! The broth is sooooo good ! I ordered the short rib pho and added brisket. The short rib was good, falling off the bone. But, the brisket was so tough I didn't eat it. I ordered the shrimp egg rolls. And they were perfect! -- I decided to not leave my review that night bc I knew I'd be back the next night. Well, I came back the next night and I can't say my experience was the same. I arrived around the same time as before. With less than an hour and a half to spare, to set context. However, they still allowed people to come in after me. Anyway, I ordered the same thing as the night before but without the brisket. -- The broth was still good, but I received less pieces of short rib and it was NOT falling off the bone. Originally I was going over Roselle and saw Vietnamese restaurant but they're closed on Tuesdays. That was a disappointment I discovered this place cuz I really wanted pho and some Vietnamese dishes. Service was pretty quick and delivering especially the all the dishes all at once between their version of Pho, the spring or summer roll as well as The Boba tapioca smoothie. I ordered the avocado mango for the smoothie. The smoothie was good but the texture of it is a bit too thick. They put it in an interesting container with their logo and a lid with a thick straw. I went a different direction with ordering spring or summer rolls instead of having the shrimp which is traditional I went for the sausage. I was hoping it was going to be like another place on you in the city the way they make their sausage spring roll. But it was not. It look like it was spam but didn't taste like Spam it wasn't salty. It was delicious and savory and the ingredients of green leafy vegetables and vermicelli was tasty. The broth of the pho which was supposed to be a northern recipe which I never experienced even going to Vietnam was delicious however instead of using lean cuts of beef it seems like they were using ground beef similar to hamburger which I thought was peculiar. That was the only thing I did not like in the pho. However the Brotg was very rich in flavorful. The texture of the broth especially. Most other Vietnamese restaurants the broth is either bland and watery or it's flavorful but watery this one had a little thickness to their pho broth. However I didn't like the fact that they put ground beef instead of lean beef. Four out of five stars because of that. A bit pricey in regards to their menu. If you've never had banh mi or if you've never been to Pholicious stop here. It's been recognized as one of the best bahn mi sandwiches in the area by food critic Steve Dolynski. The bread was crisp, the meats were fresh and the overall taste left me wanting to come back the next day for more. Don't just stop at the sandwich, try the pho and fried rice! Both were over the top. Better than any other place I've had either of those. For it being at Saturday evening during dinner hours, it was easy to sit right down. The baguette was a bit on the softer side so it got soggy by the time I brought it home. Though that is on me because they gave me the option to have the veggies on the side. Their bahn mi's are the best and the bread is baked fresh daily which you can go buy just the bread if you like and it's super cheap. Their lobster bahn mi is the best thing ever i'm obsessed. They have great drinks too and boba's too. I would recommend going for their lunch specials. The food was good, but some of the meat was a little bland. The service was a little slow at times. Looks like they could have used a little more help. They certainly weee not rushing us to get out either. We had a large group of 8 people and they did accept reservations for us, which was nice. Pot stickers and egg rolls were well received. I've been here multiple times with friends since it's a central meeting point in the suburbs for all of us. Overall, I'm impressed by the quality of pho despite being in the suburbs. Quality- my favorite is the ox tail pho with chicken wings as an appetizer. The chicken wings are very crispy and come out piping hot. The sweet/salty glaze on the wings mix really well with the texture and the chicken is well cooked. The ox tail pho has flavorful broth and the meat has such nice marbling. I have no complaints about the quality of food here. Quantity- this place doesn't skimp out here either. For 15 bucks you can get a very filling bowl of pho or rice dish. They have a huge selection of banh mi, pho, rice dishes, dry noodles, and boba. Appetizers are a ok portion size too. Atmosphere- Overall the place is clean but I'm not a fan of the music choice, volume, and distracting casino machines in the corner. If I get seated directly across the room from the gambling machines, I try to move. It is too bright. Service- I can tell they are understaffed and there are newer workers here. It can sometimes take a while to get your check or food. I don't mind waiting esp if I'm with a group here but I wouldn't come here if I was in a rush. I only come here during off hours. In particular, the bread for the banh mi was over baked and stale..they are known for making their bread fresh daily. After a recent visit to Vietnam, we were looking for a place in the Chicagoland area that had egg coffee. What we found was Pholicious, with its extensive and enticing menu. They offer so many great looking varieties of banh mi, pho, etc. We made a special trip out here and were not disappointed. Husband got their Chicago special banh mi, which was excellent. The bread was a particular highlight, being made in house each day. I got the Northern style pho, which was huge and tasty. For drinks, I got a bubble tea and husband got the egg coffee (still available, at this time, on their secret menu). The bubble tea was very good. The egg coffee was not like what we had in Vietnam, though it's hard to say if what we had there was touristic or authentic. My husband and I had higher expectations given the good reviews. Food was mediocre at best. I was very annoyed that NOT ONE SINGLE ITEM WAS CHARGED AT THE MENU PRICE. We were given menus, and there was also a QR code to get the menu online as well. Pricing on the printed menu and online menu were the same but not the same amount charged for each item on our check. We ordered four items and the difference came out to just about two dollars. Regardless of the amount, the menus need to have accurate pricing. We ordered the appetizers and entrees at the same time. As an appetizer, we ordered the grilled pork and shrimp spring rolls and a Chicago banh mi signature to share. My husband ordered the Northern Pho for his entree and I ordered the vegan tofu rice platter. My rice platter was the first plate to come out. I pushed it off to the side to wait for the apps About five minutes later, the appetizers of spring rolls and banh mi showed up. Thirty seconds after that, my husband's pho came out. I guess they don't care about the order of when things come out. Also, his northern pho was supposed to come with thick noodles, but they were just regular pho noodles. Lastly, there was a loud family party going on in the middle of the restaurant. I'm all for a good party and family celebrations but I did find it weird that they had a bottle of Remy 1738 on their table and were doing multiple shots with the servers. That's fine. Just odd. It got pretty rowdy and I could see how it may ruin someone's dining experience. All in all, we don't have any reason to want to come back. I've been here a few times and their online ordering system is pretty easy especially if you are picking up. Their smoothies are better than a lot of other places in the area. And decent consistency on the tapioca. I've had the banh mi and spring rolls. And some of the larger entrees with pork and egg.
