When we first arrived - no wonton soups, no pork rolls and no restocked condiments. I was told there was no wontons available, I ordered veggie soup kids meal to go. Worker didn't know the menu to tell me if if there was veggie soup. "Really?" I had also, ordered two double meat round eye and in one bite I finished all my meat realizing then I was never given double meat for what I paid for. This has been the worst Pho restaurant I've been; and I've been in a lot of them because I love Pho. But a good Pho. First, I asked for a brisket and flank steak Pho (8.25) and a Thai tea, so did my family of 4. The broth of the Pho wasn't beef broth, it was CHICKEN broth!!!! They never asked us if we wanted chicken broth instead of beef, and I actually don't like my Pho with chicken broth! The meat was horrible and with some green parts! Secondly, the tea. They gave us a cup filled with ICE, and then they pour the tea... giving just like 1 oz (from 8oz) of tea. This has been the more EXPENSIVE Thai tea I've paid; 3.50 for 1 oz of tea. I hate to leave a less than stellar review because I've patronized this location quite a few times. MOST of the time it's been great. The last three visits have been questionable, and yesterday's pretty much was the worst. Why? They were out of food. NO PHO NOODLES? Really? The first of the last few questionable visits, the tables were a bit dirty, and there were no serve yourself condiments. It was not busy, and should have been refilled. No cilantro, and no jalapenos. I had to ask. Yesterday i was warned by the gentleman working there that "before you order, we're out of a few things...." Yeah well.. didn't realize you were out of the thing you named your store after. That's like going to Kentucky Fried Chicken and being told they're all out of chicken.. but they have plenty of slaw and mashed potatoes. I really hope they're not closing down because this downshift in service is definitely not a good sign and will certainly lead to that. At 8:30pm they were witnessed telling a family that indoor dining was closed due to COVID when they just wanted to clean up and leave when the restaurant closed. First, let's get something straight - PhoNatic is part of the fast-casual movement, and the prices and food quality match. I usually get the brisket pho, which costs me a whopping $8.25. Geez. The bowls are not particularly large, and the stock that they use is very thin. You get a ton of toppings (scallions, onions, beansprouts) to make the servings look larger, but the actual amount of meat and noodles is fairly sparse. A good pho relies on having a meaty, thick stock that feels filling. This stock does not, and lacks flavour to boot. I usually end up having to squeeze a ton of Sriracha into the soup to get any sort of flavour out of it. 3 stars for good service - I never have to wait long for my meal and making the order is usually a breeze. But 2 stars off for mediocre pho and horrible prices. I mean, the veggie pho is $7.95, which is the same cost as the beef meatballs or the eye round steak. What? Come on, it's just vegetables....... And don't get me started on some of the other items - veggie egg rolls are $4.00 but regular egg rolls are $1.95.... is there vegetarian hate going on?! I get that this is Cedar Park, in the throes of suburbia, and that you can charge a markup for a dish for which you usually need to shlep into Central Austin. But still - I would recommend you take the time and effort to go to an established, old-school, authentic pho restaurant in the Chinatown/Central Austin area (Tan My is one of my favourites) and compare it to PhoNatic. Cedar Park finally has its own PhoNatic! I enjoyed dining at the Anderson Lane location and am excited that I can now get my pho on closer to home. I love the layout of this location. There is ample seating with both tables and booths inside and a nice dog friendly patio. PhoNatic's condiment stand is full of cilantro, fresh jalapeno slices, pickled jalapenos, green onions, fish sauce, Sriracha and other goodies to compliment their dishes. The menu options are endless, well OK they have 804 menu items so close to endless. You can also build your own pho bowl and they have kid size portions. I usually get the fillet pho or the banh mi sliders. Today I wanted to eat something on the smaller/lighter side and an employee recommended a kids portion of pho. I decided on the 702, kids portion of chicken pho. The clean broth was aromatic and the rice noodles were perfectly cooked. This is the perfect size pho for me and it will definitely be my go to from now on. Jesse's banh mi sliders were on par with the Anderson Lane location with soft buns stuffed with delicious pork and crisp veggies. They share parking with their very busy neighbor Torchy's making it difficult to find a parking spot. They do have 5 reserved parking spots just for their PhoNatics. Their bun bowls are really good so when a pho craving hit me last week I thought, why not come back and try it here? I got the vegetarian pho bowl and the broth was extremely bland. Their house sauces fixed that though so it wasn't a deal breaker for me. What was were the actual vegetables. It had a combination of broccoli, carrots, baby corn, onions, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts...but they all tasted either straight from a can or freezer bag. I guess I expected more since they have a fresh topping bar here with green onions, bean sprouts, lime, jalapeños, and cilantro that is always good. I was also sad to see that they no longer serve Maine Root sodas on their fountain! I will still come back for their bun and awesome shrimp spring rolls however. The parking is still horrific during lunch rush. I've had a chance to eat pretty much the entire menu and find most of the food to be mediocre. The Americanized pho and the spring roll is the best dish and is fine if you are craving pho and don't want to drive to the Chinatown area. Everything else is mostly sweet and lack any depth. I'm not too sure why PhoNatic hasn't gotten at least a 3 1/2-4 star rating. This place is really friggin' good! Their grilled pork sliders are absolutely delicious. You can add a little bit of the Hoisin Sauce in the purple packet to add a little extra pizzazz. I've been here twice in the last two weeks just because of their banh mi sandwiches. Which, ironically I have yet to take a photo of. It's just that dang tasty so I always forget half way thru my meal :) (I also get the grilled pork on the sandwich). The bread is slightly crispy all the while still being soft. Best of both worlds. Everything on this menu is customizable so that makes for a really pleasant experience, especially for the picky eaters. The only downfall were the shrimp egg rolls. I say try everything at least once, but you can go ahead and skip these. But the guy on the phone was soo rude. I asked to.make sure my veggie pho had soft tofu and he was kinda irritated at me and told.me they only use soft tofu. At this point I even clarified that I meant it to not be fried but it was like I was talking to a wall. I specifically asked for babycorns on the other order. Guess what... Both the orders were wrong.. because he did not even care to put it in correctly. Now wait.. cherry on the cake.. when he rang me up I noticed the tip defaulted to 25%.. really!! I don't mind paying that for a good service especially when the revenues are hit hard during the covid times, but defaulting to that and failing to even put in an order correctly because you probably are too good to listen to the other person.. no thank you! The pho broth was ok. I added alot of Sriracha and lime juice to give it more flavor. My boyfriend added more fish sauce to his. I liked the condiment bar because I was able to add a ton of cilantro to my pho. I noticed the server carrying it out had his thumb on the inner rim of my bowl and I don't like that because what if the broth sloshes around and then his THUMB and whatever germs on his thumb goes into my broth -_- The spring rolls were good. The thicker vermicelli noodles were used, which is different. The classic is shrimp and a Vietnamese deli meat, which I think is pureed pork and steamed and sliced, it has a light gray color. The peanut sauce was ok. Nobody seemed to want to work. It was slow. Employees were sitting in a booth eating. There were two tables that needed to be cleared but nobody was rushing to get to it. Nice, clean, environment, but the pho is bland and largely flavorless. Be ready to add quarter bottle of hoisin, Sriracha and lime to try to make up for it. "Banh Mi" sliders are anything but Banh Mi. Yes, they are unique with the rice flour bread, but the pork was flavorless and the horseradish sauce made this taste more like an Arby's sandwich than the Vietnamese delicacy that is Banh Mi. If you don't know what Banh Mi is, you may enjoy it. Go to Simply Pho House near Galleria in Bee Cave and order the grilled pork Banh Mi to know the difference. Spring rolls were similarly sub-par. They were loose, not tightly packed, sticky, chewy with a peanut sauce that lacked peanut sauce with too much Hoisin. Won't be coming back. read more
