A small restaurant, with about ten tables. When we arrived it was pretty full, but they were able to move some tables around to seat our party of three - my hubby, my brother and I. We started with three waters and the egg roll appetizer. The egg rolls have chicken inside and are delicious. It came with a small side of pickled onions and carrots and a bit of lettuce. The egg rolls were crispy; it had the perfect contrast of the softer interior and the cold(ish) pickled vegetables and lettuce. Quite delicious. It comes with two whole egg rolls, cut into four pieces. I was with two hungry men, they decided to order a second portion. My hubby and I got chicken pho for our entrees - there is only one size, which is pretty large. My brother got the grilled lemongrass vermicelli. Everything was quite good, with good service. I ordered the grilled pork banh mi and while I've had even better banh mis in DC, it was very good with nice crunchy bread and a good amount of meat. My friend and I order two pho dac biet specials and shared some summer rolls. There were two rolls cut into four pieces and were refreshing and delicious. The pho was served with plenty of noodles and protein, they definitely didn't skimp on the meat! In fact, they accidentally left out the meatballs in my dish, but came out apologized and gave me a separate helping! Yay! Finally a delicious pho spot that does an AMAZING job on their to-go orders. Since I live a block over, I've never actually eaten in the restaurant itself but in general I eat here a lot. They do such a great job in packing their to-go meals, that makes it easy to put together at home. I always get the pho with the fatty brisket and the lean round eye, their beef bahn mi and their fried egg rolls. After ordering, they have everything packaged nicely and ready for me within 5-8 mins. You can tell they use quality meats within their pho and sandwiches....and the egg rolls are the best! Really pho-nomenal (couldn't resist the pun!) on so many levels: lovely bright space with a shaded (in the afternoon, at least) outdoor patio, a simple but interesting menu, fresh high-quality ingredients, and truly spectacular service. Really generous portions, and they'll give you a takeaway container if you dine in but don't finish. I enjoyed my vermicelli with lemongrass chicken -- the chicken was moist and flavorful, and the veggies were plentiful and crisp. I got the mango fruit tea, which was really refreshing on a hot day. It was a teensy but sweeter than I would've liked, but still really good. As great as the food was, service was really the star here. I was greeted warmly and my order was filled quickly. There were several gentlemen tending to folks in the dining room and making sure we had everything we needed. It's far more than counter service, so I recommend tipping generously even if you order at the counter. (I was kind of confused because it also seems like you can just sit down and get table service, too--but ordering at the counter worked fine!) I was excited to try the new pho place that took over (sadly) the love and faith cafe. I found it a little strange that Pho 54 kept the tables.. the inspirational quotes on tables don't really make sense for a Vietnamese restaurant. The layout stayed the same as the cafe which makes it really weird too. You order at the cashier and they bring out the food to you. Sometimes you get service but it's a bit unclear. The food.. Price was generally okay. I thought the only overpriced item was "extra noodle or meat" to your pho.. $4. Crazy. The taste of the pho was alright. Broth was clean but it tasted like beef broth from the box. The meat portions were generous and I still enjoyed the meal. The bahn mi was pretty good too. Great bread to filling ratio. Pork wasn't too salty and had just enough pickled onion/carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, and jalapeno to balance from sweet to spicy. I'd come and give this place another shot few months down the line but the pho is just alright. In my opinion, Pho 14 has better pho (and pho 54 doesn't come close to pho 75 or pho viet) but service at pho 14 is awful. At least here, the staff are kind and the food comes out very quickly. read more

I was in the mood for some pho yesterday to warm me up and soothe my throat. I googled places I was nearby and this place popped up with really good reviews so I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. I ordered the beef meatballs pho and some hot tea. I was expecting the tea to come in a regular teacup, nope! Exceeded my expectations with a teapot and a small porcelain teacup! The pho was seasoned well and the tea was good and soothing. As I was bringing back my take-out order, I noticed that the bag was weirdly warm and wet inside. Turns out that the soup was so hot, it melted the containers and caused the lids to come off and our broth to spill out into the bag . The cute dog named Moose ( or something similar ) turned out OWNER's. He liked jumping all over the sofa where you would sit. Well, we saw the dog peeing outside before the jumping session. Nice. This reminds me of NY subways. You never know when you sit on pee stains. Try your luck. Anyway... we took the dog as a God's sign of its opening and it was right. They finally opened. It could haven nicer if they let us know they had been taking order on-line while a group of fools waiting outside on a very hot day. Great. Obviously we were THE idiots. By the time we brought our food home, it's waaaaay past 12:30. I understand that things are not always going the way as you expect -- especially when you run a business. If you cannot keep up with the opening hour, please adjust it. Also, lock your door and remove the" open" sign in the window before you open. A false hope is no good for the hungry. And hey, dog running around the kitchen, hall, and outside? I hope this was one time emergency exception. Food: 4 Ban Mi (4) was "melt my anger away" good. Pho (3) was okay. I've been eating pho for 30 years. Pho doesn't need to be great for me to want it, but once I found great pho in my life, I always have to find a great pho place where I live. When I lived in SF, I discovered great pho at Pho 2000, where the broth was darker and richer than I'd had before. When I tried Phonatics Noodle Bar (aka Pho 54 Noodle bar) here in DC, it had the same style of delicious broth. The server explained to me that this was a Southern Vietnam style broth. Well, it's delicious, and I don't need to try another pho place in DC because the great pho search is over. 5 stars for the pho. Also, they sell great chili sauce to take home. I can't speak to the pho since I can't stand hot foods past March but the Vietnamese baguettes were delicious; tofu and lemongrass chicken. Chicken is seasoned and flattened to be proportional to the baguette & the traditional leafy croutons/greens (parsley, onions, grated carrots) and muster tangy drizzled sauce gave it that Vietnamese taste. The baguettes are a steal at $8 but the boba teas are nearly there at $7??? it's odd...but with how sweet their bobas are (tbh most bobas are) wouldn't be surprised if I'm drinking more of my calories than I am eating via baguettes. We tried Pho 54's take out during the COVID-19 quarantine (yes they are still open). We ordered the Lemongrass Beef Vermicelli and Pho. Both were packaged neatly, and despite the half hour commute back home, they still tasted delicious. The pho is rich and flavorful. The lemongrass beef is tender and the veggies are crisp. It was a rainy day and craved some Pho. Stopped by with my cousin and we ordered the summer rolls, Pho Dac Biet and Pho Tai Gan. Everything was delicious. They load these rolls with plenty of lump shrimp and veggies. The Pho broth itself is rich in flavor, clear and lacks MSG. My cousin and I finished our bowls down to the last drop. Each bowl had plenty of perfectly sliced meat. Loved how this location is run. Everything is very clean. Staff was really friendly and prices are reasonable. Big fan of the high ceilings and quotes engraved into the tables. I noticed plenty of folks ordering the banh mi, vermicelli and rice dishes. I'll definitely be back to order those. My experience at this place is EXACTLY why people in the community are using apps instead of supporting local businesses. I walked 5 city blocks to get to this spot and ordered a Bahn Mi to-go and when I sat down at an open table to dress the sandwich with condiments the kid behind the counter yelled at me "YOU CANT EAT THAT HERE!" There was only ONE of their 8 tables occupied and it's casual dining basically a Subway sandwich ambiance (no waiters and obviously no busser bc it was a mess) The sandwich was not bad which is why this isn't 1 star review, and the poor lady who runs the kitchen obviously had to hire her incompetent son to run the counter, but perhaps if she instead hired someone from the community and trained them in basic hospitality we would all be more likely to frequent local business in person. I watched her son disrespect the other table as well talking to them as if they were an annoyance. I won't be back to this place to be treated disrespectfully by some angry dope who hates his job. read more

Elevated tastebuds and heightened attention to detail. I've traveled all over Vietnam for months at a time (and multiple times), and I've lived in Orange County, CA for seven years. This restaurant is WAY better than most of the family-owned restaurants I've visited in Vietnam and OC. The family and staff are very particular in how they prepare the food. The spring roll wraps are soft, and easy to chew on - also a lot of content. The pho beef cuts were cooked in advance, as the owner had the foresight to cook the meat in case my soup went cold by the time I arrived at the hotel. Also, a lot of content. Walked in on a whim and really glad we did! Smelled amazing as soon as we opened the door. Food was delicious. Only gripe was one piece of meat that was over seasoned on one end. But rest of it was perfect. We tried Banh Mi, noodle soups, vermicelli so the gamut except for the broken rice. All was fresh and tasty. Clean. Intimate tho they accommodated our party of 6 quickly. Checked out this new pho spot on a cold and rainy Sunday and it didn't disappoint. I ordered the beef pho with eye round and brisket. I enjoyed the brisket bc it wasn't super fatty and the eye round was okay. The broth was good and smelled slightly of the cloves and cinnamon which was a little different. I would have liked it to be a tad spicier which is an option at some pho restaurants but I got extra chili paste on the side and it made up for it.
