I recently went to Rice Bar for dinner and had a great meal. It's a fun setup, like Chipotle for Korean food. The restaurant isn't huge but there are probably close to 20 seats, where you don't feel too crowded. The service was good and quick, and the food was delicious. My only complain is if you make your own bowl, you can only have 4 toppings for free. Each additional topping was $1.39, which felt crazy expensive. I was able to swap out a veggie in one of the signature bowls, but it would be too expensive to add more toppings, which is disappointing. read more

Food was kind of sad and gross...? The kids got a tofu udon bowl. The tofu is 3 slices of firm tofu boiled, then dunked in a generic teriyaki sauce. The kids normally love seaweed and mushroom but said both of these sides were gross. I got a rice bowl and appreciated the option of black rice, though it was slightly overcooked / mushy. Chicken was also kind of mushy. Gochujang was just the stuff from the tub? We showed up on a Thursday about 30 min before closing. There was only one person working. The large family ahead of us had four kids and were told after their bowls were mostly assembled that there was no teriyaki chicken -- their only options were either spicy or tofu which is not everybody's cup of tea. We felt extremely bad for them but also antsy as we had to wait for a solid 20 minutes while they tried to figure out what to do. read more

I lived in Korea for two years, and my husband is Korean, and we both thought the food was authentic. It comes with bean sprout, carrot, burdock root, kale, zucchini, ground beef, egg - yet the ground beef I was served was no more than one tablespoon serving, which was disappointing. You go inside, choose your carb from rice, brown rice, or several different kinds of noodles, then the toppings, then protein - beef, pork, chicken or tofu. To make it more authentic, you can put a fried egg on top just before choosing a source. It's quick and delicious but not cheap. Rice bar is awesome, finally a good fast casual Korean option close to work. Concept is simple - go in, either head straight to the counter or you can take a menu and make an individual bowl. They have some standard bowl options too if you aren't picky. I had a bowl with black rice, bulgogi, and other toppings. Kimchi is extra and not the best, so I'd skip that one going forward. The egg is also extra but cooked a nice sunny side up and is crucial to a good bibimbap. Bulgogi was delicious and I need to try their galbi and other proteins now. You can choose up to four veggie toppings and add sauces on top. Gochujang is classic but I also tried the spicy peanut which was good as well. I'm honestly surprised why there aren't more 5 star reviews. I love the Rice Bar on 15th street and was excited that another location opened up near Metro Center, finally! Perfect lunch spot. Even if you are not a Rice lover like me, there are plenty of noodles or salad options to choose from. It's a vegetarian's paradise with over 20 toppings to choose from: burdock root, bamboo shoots, seaweed salad, eggplant, squash, 2 types of mushrooms, and even 3 types of tofu (spicy, teriyaki, and plain), the list goes on... I got the Tofu Bibimbap with lettuce instead of rice and loaded it up with more veggies when I saw all the scrumptious toppings. It was worth paying a few dollars more and the meal doubled over to dinner. I topped my salad bowl with the spicy peanut sauce, it's creamy and like peanut butter and not the the traditional Panang-style peanut sauce that I was expecting. The Teriyaki sauce is a bit goopy and I wasn't a fan of it. The Gochujang is quite spicy! I recommend trying a couple of sauces before choosing one, the peanut sauce was my favorite. Although you fill out a paper order form like Jetties, the staff is pretty flexible and you can make add toppings as they make your order. I prefer the Chipotle and &Pizza ordering style as you choose toppings at the time of the order rather than ordering ahead of time. That's the only thing I would change. Came to chow down here with my friend. We randomly decided to meet up here and I'm glad we did! I walked in and was welcomed by their workers. They have an interesting way for you to order your food. You can choose from 3 types of bases (rice, noodles, or gluten free). These are reflected by the 3 different pieces of paper you order from. From there you choose your additional toppings like assorted veggies, proteins, sauces, and anything extra. Then you hand them your paper and they grab everything you ordered together. Since this was our first time, we had lots of questions on what tastes good, what doesn't and how things looked. They were super nice and patient with us. They gave us very good recommendations I ordered the spicy chicken protein with udon noodles and some additional toppings. This was delicious so if you're looking for something good, try the udon noodles and spicy chicken! I've heard the bulgogi was good too. Also a chill ambiance to eat at if you'd like to. Alas, the kalbi itself was a little tough -- I think maybe cutting it into smaller, thinner pieces would help, but it still all tasted good. Loved the gochujang spicy sauce on the edges. The food came CRAZY fast to my office via bike delivery, which was mucho appreciated. I just got a pretty basic bowl that I knew what everything was for the first time. My bowl was pretty good, it was a mix of white rice, chicken, zucchini, corn and lettuce and I added soy sauce. I'm so glad this place opened up right by my office. Rice bar is a pretty simple "make your own" rice bowl/noodle bowl fast casual restaurant. Upon entering, make your way to the right and fill out a little slip of paper (yellow for noodle bowls, white for rice) that indicates what you want. The forms are really easy to understand, and let you pick toppings, proteins, etc. while also letting you know if there will be additional charges for them. I'm a big fan of the bulgogi beef and the tofu. Don't forget to add a fried egg! If you're not feeling super creative, there are predetermined choices at the bottom you can select too. They really move quickly here. You hand your paper to the first employee, and they pass it down the line adding the toppings you've selected. All in all, it usually takes me less than 5 minutes to get lunch here, which is great. There is also a condiment bar at the end if you want to add anything else, like sriracha or peanut sauce. All in all, this is a great little place for lunch. I've found the ingredients to be pretty good, the portions to be generous, and the price to be right. read more

But this seems a little unnecessary because the process is like most fast casual spots where you might not know what toppings you want until you see them. And things aren't always exactly as they appear on the ticket. For instance, the ticket says cucumber, and plain cucumbers are a little boring. But they're actually spicy pickled cucumbers, which is amazing! Ive seen people go in and just order without the ticket, which I think is the way to go. Pro tip, get the sesame oil in addition to another sauce. When we came for lunch, the place was oddly warm inside.
