Wow. So this spot replaced the old beloved Love & Faith cafe. A lover of Vietnamese cuisine it was only a matter of time I checked this place out. They neighbor the Street Market on 14th st making them possibly the most accessible restaurant near me (Columbia Heights resident) On to the food: the lemon grass chicken banh mi sandwich was delectable. The flavors were amazing, the sandwich was loaded, the flavors explosive. I would've loved jalapeño in my sandwich as it's a typical component of a banh mi sandwich but next time I know to order some on the side. The sandwich goes for $7, I'm originally from Seattle where you can grab a $5 banh mi for a substantially larger size. Still, an amazing sandwich. I also had the taro smoothie with tapioca and it was also delicious! Extremely sweet but satisfying, it could've been blended a tad longer but I really enjoyed the flavor. I saw the bubble tea counter at Streets, but it was closed, so I wandered into Pho 54 hoping to satisfy my craving. While they didn't have any boba, they were super knowledgeable about what was vegan friendly and what ingredients went into their dishes. I ended up getting spring rolls, a banh mi made vegan (I.e. without the mayo), and a mango green tea-type drink. It was all satisfying. I just wished the tofu had a bit more flavor in the banh mi. Absolutely my favorite banh-mi place in DC. When my relative visited me in DC, who is not an adventurous eater at time, I took him here, and this was the only restaurant he wanted to go to again! Each time we got the combination sandwich (chicken, pork, and beef). If they are only doing 2 meats, pay the extra $1-2 for the extra meat if you can afford it, totally worth it. What makes this banh-mi so special, in my opinion, is that it is very authentic but is made in a way people in the US are sort of used to having their meat cut, so it's "comfortably" authentic in a lot of ways to those not familiar. Flavors of meat are so authentic and the veggies on top add the perfect crisp. I haven't tried their pho yet, as I didn't go out much during covid, and I don't have pho a ton in the heat of this summer. 10/10. read more

Great service and improved broth for this neighborhood pho restaurant. I've gotten pho over a year ago and wasn't impressed, but buying take out again this week, I felt both the service and the food quality had improved. Lemongrass beef bun (noodles) were delicious with some hot sauce provided and a generous servicing of fish sauce. The pho dac biet special came with a variety of beef cuts and even some beef meatballs. The usual basil and bean sprouts were included with the separately packed noodles and lime slice. The server was quick and a phoned in order took about 15 minutes to get ready in the mid-afternoon. He even brought the food out for me when he saw I had a dog. Overall the prices are a bit high compared to Virginia, but you can't beat a neighborhood location's convenience. I'll be back! read more

Wow this restaurant is great! I was feeling the cold and decided to order some warm pho and settled on Pho 54 after investigating some reviews. Settled on the pho dac biet special and the Bahn mi and placed my delivery order. My order was confirmed incredibly quickly and at my door in 20 minutes with the broth still steaming hot. They package the broth of the pho and all of the noodles and accompaniments separately which I thought was great. The pho broth was really flavorful and yummy, the cuts of meat were plentiful, and they give you a TON of rice noodles, mint, cilantro, bean sprouts, onion, spring onion, jalapeños and hoisin/siracha mix. Yum yum definitely more than enough for two portion sizes. The bahn mi was also delicious - with really well marinated meat, and pickled veggies were so yummy. If you're wondering whether this place is open amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, it is. While I was a customer before the lockdown began, lately I've been ordering placing more frequent orders with Pho 54 because not only is it delicious, affordable and convenient, I am super thankful they are open. I love it because I can walk there with my dog and they have someone sitting at the door ready to exchange my order for payment. One very minor downside is that you still have to tap on the credit card reader to specify gratuity, so I bring a little stylus with me to avoid touching it. The food is always well packed in high quality takeout boxes, which is a plus. My favorites here are the Summer Rolls, Banh Mi Combination, Pho Dac Biet, and any of the vermicelli dishes. read more

I'm only here visiting which is not their fault so I don't have a bowl to put it in but they did not give me hoisen sauce or Sriracha with my order which as you know completes the pho. Other than that...I'd love to try again. Perhaps dine in. Update: The customer service is unmatchable I literally just left a review and somebody contacted me and apologized because the kitchen gets busy so honest mistake about my sauce being missing. I live about a block away from this spot and it quickly became a go to spot for me, especially during Covid lockdown. Sadly the past couple times have been lackluster to say the least. Lately when I order the beef Banh mi it was so filled with gristle and fat I had to pull much of the "beef" out to make it edible. Then today I return and order the same thing and order it with extra beef ($3 up charge) and it is filled with less beef than what I have normally gotten with the extra......doubtful I will return. Pho54 opened a few days ago. My friend, my husband and I went here tonight. this Vietnamese restaurant is authentic Vietnamese. They made almost everything in house. I was impressed with the vegetables were so fresh. The staff and the owners are attentive, friendly and helpful. We ordered: Pho with beef - the broth was delicious and the noodle/beef cooked perfectly (I like the noodle, it was not mushy). Spring rolls - crispy and tasty (made fresh) Chicken wings - the wings were not heavily battered. They were flavorful! Banh Mi with grilled pork (Vietnamese sandwiche) - it was perfectly seasoned, the meat and veggies stuffed in the bread were so good. Though I love pho and live a block away from this restaurant, I wasn't in any hurry to try it. I convinced myself that a pho restaurant on 14th Street, at the heart of U Street corridor, next to a luxury high-rise would be 1) extremely mediocre or 2) extremely overpriced, and most likely both. To my surprise (and delight), they proved me wrong on both accounts. In fact, it was the best bowl of pho I've had in a long time. I ordered my go-to at every pho restaurant - rare steak with soft tendon - for $10.99. I noted that you could get their "Special Beef Combination" with every cut of beef possible for only $12.99. Before I could start fathoming how they can afford to keep prices this low, my pho came out. I tasted the broth and was immediately impressed with the rich flavor and clean texture. The juicy pieces of tendon were cut into the same size and shape as the steak. I'm used to getting tiny bite-sized pieces of tendon that you have to fish around for, so I was really loving these generous portions. I also loved that the amount of noodles was perfectly portioned. I don't know about you, but I'm used to getting WAY too much noodle compared to meat in my pho. I like to think that this place actually did its homework in making sure that you finish your meat and noodles at the same time. After slurping down the entire contents of my bowl, I didn't feel heavy or gross. And hours later, I don't feel groggy or sleepy. If you're skeptical of this place for the reasons I was, rest assured. They also have delicious-looking rice plates, vermicelli bowls, and banh mi, which I can't wait to go back and try. The price wasn't the issue this was the most expensive PHO I ever purchased in my life, I eat pho on a daily basis but the mere fact is that they didn't have proper to go bowls to accommodate the pho to properly warm up at home or work ! Whenever in dc I always make sure to get some vegan pho. This one did not disappoint!!!! Due to work needs I got delivery. Tried the tofu summer rolls And vegan pho. Both were absolutely delicious. Pho can be a little awkward as delivery is self assembly and all but it was worth it 100%. Broth was super flavorful. I would have preferred more veggies and tofu but that's just me. after several years of being a patron to this establishment i walk in to order lunch in the middle of the week only to be told that i smell of marijuana and that they can serve me but it must be "to go". Living in DC in 2022, I've never felt so embarrassed and targeted. I came here on a Friday night with some friends and got seated really quickly since the restaurant wasn't that busy. We ordered a summer roll (no pork) to share, grilled shrimp vermicelli and chicken pho. They initially gave us the summer rolls with both shrimp and pork, but quickly realized their mistake, apologized and made the summer rolls (without pork) for us. The chicken pho came out quickly, but the grilled shrimp vermicelli took a little longer. It would have been nice if our food was served at the same time. I got the veggie broth for the chicken pho, and it was really fragrant and delicious! I loved the onions in the chicken pho - it gave it that extra punch of flavor. Chicken itself was ok; I probably prefer dark meat but I know they use chicken breast for the chicken. The grilled shrimp was yummy and the fried garlic on top was a nice touch. I wish there was more noodles and less raw vegetables, but overall, good dish. I would probably come back if I was craving Vietnamese food, especially since it is so conveniently located to where I live. read more

This place is relatively new, and a good addition to the neighborhood because we needed a local pho place. The soup comes out super hot, but it doesn't have a ton of meat. The broth is a little weak and bland in taste. Pho comes out with a nice plate of bean sprouts and a small wedge or two of lime. The spring rolls are pretty good. They aren't greasy and the orange dipping sauce is awesome. The staff is friendly and attentive and the ambiance is nice. I recommend trying to sit away from the door on a cold day, as all of the cold air flows in quickly. It's a good close place, but there is some better pho in DC. read more

Our saving grace in DC. The best pho you can get within a 4 mile radius. It's about a mile walk from our home, but it's worth the walk even when it's 25 Fahrenheit degrees outside because there is really is no other legitimate Vietnamese joint besides Pho Viet in our hood. Sometimes, you just need a bowl of hot soup, rice noodles, and beef. We wish they had more Asian cuts like tripe and tendons, but we get that they have to serve to the local market. Yesterday i finally got a chance to eat here. I ordered pho #3 which was round steak + beef meatballs. The broth was tasty but needed a bit salt. The portion was generous in a bigger bowl than other pho places in DC. I also had taro bubble smoothie and it was ok. It's a new establishment so I didn't expect too much. The service was super friendly (the guy behind the counter and the waitress). I'm Vietnamese-American and am from San Jose. I've been waiting to try this place since it opened up, and came in without high expectations. Service was professional and food came out extremely quick. Upon my first sip of the broth, I knew instantly that without a doubt this place is the best Pho in the city, and only behind Pho 75 in Rosslyn, VA.
