Best place in all of Mount Shasta for delicious vegan food! They're pretty much the only restaurant in the area that has its own full vegan menu and they also specify which items are gluten-free. My partner and I visit Mount Shasta twice a year and we always make sure to eat at Phuket Thai every day that we're in town! It's that good. :) To be honest, it's the best vegan Thai food we've ever had, and we've been to countless Thai restaurants over the years in many different states and cities. Our favorites: Papaya Salad Yellow Curry Panang Curry Pad Thai Thai Fried Rice Coconut Sticky Rice (for dessert) Try them!!! You won't be disappointed. The first time we walked in, they were closed 45 minutes before the actual closing hours, according to Yelp. Then we tried it again today, and we were happy that they were open. Trying to beat the closing time for lunch, we got there an hr and half ahead of the lunch close. We walked in, and they were pretty busy. The first thing the server says to us upon arrival is, "I have no table for you, I have no table" with an annoyed face and tone. There's no hi, hello, sorry we dont have a table today for lunch, etc. Like we were there to eat for free, like we were there to just bother them. We just walked away really disappointed. There are so many good restaurants with great service and price around this area. Don't waste your time going to this dump. Was on a roadtrip passing by Mount Shasta on 2020 New Year's Day and we're lucky that this place is open! Arrived and from the outlook of the cafe we are a little skeptical but we don't have much of a choice. Walked in, sat down. This place is not the nicest but well.... Super delicioussssss food! We are very picky with Thai food as we have it all the time and the food didn't disappoint! We were visiting Shasta just for the night for my moms birthday. The three of us are vegan and were planning on just getting food from the market but after seeing a review on here that claimed they had a vegan menu, we decided to call and check it out for ourselves. Unfortunately they did not have a (clear) picture of the vegan menu on Yelp so we headed in to place our orders. I'm posting pictures which have the menus labeled as "vegan" and "non-vegan." We were so happy with their options and probably went a little overboard but definitely don't regret it. ALL VEGAN: First we ordered the spring rolls which where super good. We got both the chili sauce and peanut sauce. Both sauces are very good. Next we ordered the Tom kha with veggies which was incredible. There was a bit a spice which was good for us but maybe a bit too much for my mom. We also ordered the yellow curry with both veggies and tofu which was delicious and came with a side of white rice. We ordered the basil fried rice which was probably our favorite thing. Finally we got the pad see ew which was super good. The food was so good and the took our number down so we didn't have to wait inside. The two boys that were helping us were so incredibly nice and professional. I wish I got their names to give them a little shout out. We ordered a lot of food and had several questions and they were very patient with us. They called to let us know our food was ready which was just perfect. Thank you for such good food and good service! Looking forward to dining here again next time we are in town. read more

In the five years we've lived in the Bay Area we've been wholly unsuccessful in finding a hole-in-the-wall Thai place with excellent food. There are plenty that serve terrible food, a couple that are decent, and a handful of pricier establishments that do a great job. But there's nothing that delivers on both divey and delicious. So on a recent visit to Mount Shasta we approached Phuket Thai Cafe with a bit of skepticism. It's divey alright. And I can understand the negative comments made by other reviewers about the cleanliness of the place but it was by no means dirty, just old. Olde? Their menu notes an additional fee for extra spicy food. I will always opt for the spiciest option and took this to be a challenge. Not for myself, of course, but for the restaurant. If you're going to charge for extra spicy then you better bring it. When my order (which I think was the chick Kratiem) came out I didn't even need to taste the food to assess that situation. I could smell the burn. It was amazing and painful. More importantly, it was delicious. Maybe I was a little stuffed already from the spring rolls or maybe the spice had one, but I only finished half of my dish then and had an amazing repeat experience the next morning for breakfast. We will be back in Mount Shasta to walk up that gorgeous mountain again and when we come down I am going to go burn myself some more at Phucket Thai Cafe. read more

Super Vegan-Friendly. Authentic Ingredients. Fresh Veggies. Food is 'Hit-Or-Miss'. Service is, too. We stopped in before heading up to nearby Castle Lake for a late afternoon hike. We found the restaurant to be clean and the aroma to be VERY inviting. Sadly, the food never matched the appeal of the initial smell when we walked in the door. We were offered a Vegan menu when we arrived, which certainly set our minds at ease about eating vegan here. After being seated, we were served our one and only water...seriously, they never refilled our waters. We ordered Fresh Spring Rolls to start, then Basil Fried Rice and Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) for the entrees. The food was served about ten minutes later. The Fresh Spring Rolls were other-worldly, probably the best we've ever had. The peanut sauce they served with them really set them apart, as it was warm and utterly divine. The rolls themselves were tightly wrapped (a big deal to anyone who loves them), and they were LOADED with rice noodles. Seriously, you will find no better Fresh Spring Rolls anywhere in NorCal. The Basil Fried Rice was good, but it wasn't great. For starters, the portion you get for the $13 price tag is certainly skimpy. With that said, it is for sure sporting the right ratio of veggies to rice. As a Thai Basil lover, I was glad to see they use it over the more common basil leaves found at most grocery stores; the Thai version is more flavorful, for sure. The Pad Kee Mao was just bad. The flavor wasn't right, the portion for us was SMALL considering we upgraded by paying $2.50 for 'extra noodles' that we don't think we got, and it was served on a bed of lettuce, which I've never understood. While the veggies in the dish, including again that wonderful Thai Basil, were fresh and flavorful, the dish as a whole was very disappointing. All in all, this is a very average Thai restaurant, but could suffice if you're stuck in the area for a long period of time and get a Thai craving. If you've got time, though, drive farther down or up the highway to Redding (South) or Yreka (North) where better options abound. read more

He: takes orders, serves dishes and water, clean up tables, swiping cards, answering calls, seat people, etc etc. IT WAS NOT ENOUGH. We waited 30 min to be seated while there were only 2 tables of dinners. - only one person in the back? Who cooks and washes dishes. After we got seated, it took forever for food to come out. Apparently the dishes were the bottleneck because they ran out of usable dishes and were washing and drying more, despite the fact that we were the only table eating. Overall we spent an absurd amount of time here at the restaurant. The food was just so so. Totally not worth it. Do not recommend. My favorite Thai food, possibly in any city I've gone to. I make sure to stop in every time I'm in town, and always get the green curry. They never disappoint!. Their curry is in the milder side which is perfect. Last time I came here the chef told me it was farm to table fresh and that they source their vegetables form farmers market in Sacramento. Not sure if that's still true, but so great to go back to this place and see that it was still as great as I remember it when I was last here three years ago. Given the location and decor of this place, I was very skeptical upon walking in. It was late at night, there was maybe 1-2 other people here, but we were hungry from just completing a hike and it was dark and cold outside. Our server was energetic and attentive. I ordered the saytay skewers, tom kha kai soup, and pad se ew. The skeweres were a little bit on the dry side, but thats typical of this dish, the peanut sauce it came with was spot on. The soup was delicious and the perfect blend of sweet, sour, and spicy. This really warmed us up from the cold outside. The pad se ew was also very good. Overall I enjoyed my experience, the food was good, the prices were reasonable, the portions were generous. First off it smells like a bathroom in there. We walked in and all commented on how it smelt weird and later I was like omg it smells like a bathroom and everyone was like OMG IT DOES! While we were there the cook who I'm assuming is the owner came out of the kitchen to talk to a customer about something on the menu, she wanted specific veggies, and he was so loud it was like he was yelling at her and arguing about the menu. We were like ok don't want him to come yell at us... We ordered Tom yum soup, pad sew eew and grilled beef salad. Everything tasted pretty good and authentic, really liked the salad with all the lemongrass in it, however we found a hair in our soup! They apologized and took the soup back but never brought us a new one so we were confused and still hungry. I told my mom if they didn't bring us a new one I guess it's better than them bringing the same soup out and acting like they made a new one. They did take it off the bill but they didn't ask if we wanted to order something else. When we were done we were still hungry so we tried to order another beef salad but our sever came back after we ordered and said it's gonna take like 20 minutes do you still want it? We said no as it seemed like they just wanted us to leave. We had to stop at Burger King to get something else to eat. Overall, the food was good minus the hair in our soup. Their curries are the speciality, my favorite is the green curry. I like things spicy, so I often get my dishes HOT here. Once, I felt a cold coming on and I went all out for thai hot green curry. INCREDIBLE My mom and I both have celiacs and Thai food is usually a pretty safe go-to with some modifications. They have a little paper at each booth that lists the gluten free items and we were very excited. The soup was absolutely incredible, we went for the Tom Kah Gai. Flavors were out of this world. Perfect amount of spice mixed with strong ginger, kaffir lime and lemongrass. You must try it. I wish we lived closer so I could have this soup more often! Overall all this place is okay. notable dishes are the sweet chili chicken wings and the sauce for the spring rolls which carry them cuz without the sauce they would fall flat to the average Vietnamese ones. The pad Thai greatly lack flavor compare to champa garden in Redding and as a fellow southeast Asian the yellow curry fell flat even with the addition of thai spicy for a extra dollar which is well worth it if you like spicy couldn't not add more flavor in to the dish. If anything don't make it fresh it needs to stew more for tender carrots and potatoes along with depth of flavor but them wings we fried to perfection and dripping with juice so get those. read more
