I loved trying Greek food here! They have a pleasant variety of Greek options and more familiar pastries as well. They also sell small pastries by the pound - just ask for an employee to help you assemble a box full. The one thing I find tough is that the choices for iced decaf coffees are somewhat limited, but they will gladly make you a half-caf iced Americano. read more

This bakery has probably the best eye appeal I have ever experienced. Everything looks amazing and fresh. The open airy seating area and cabinets of yummy treats drew us in. Taste wise, the results were a bit more inconsistent. We had: - pistachio baklava - the hubby liked, I didn't - Athena wedding cookies - dry - Greek wedding cookies - dry - original baklava - excellent - I wouldn't expect any less of a greek bakery - Greek coffee - delicious - Honey Swirls - looked a lot better than they tasted. Came back the other day to, as promised, try their baklava. It wasn't the super-messy, soaked-in-syrup affair I've found at other bakeries, but it was good. Of course I got another slice of their walnut pie too, and it is still SO AMAZING. The rice pudding caught my eye on my way out, so I think that'll be my next thing to sample when I'm back. I wish I knew the names of things that I ordered, but I don't. Sorry I'm being a lazy Yelper these days. The only thing I don't recommend is the regular chocolate chip cookie. Everything else was great though. Iced coffee was from Devocion, which tasted great. If you like Carpo World in Greece, you'll really like their chocolate walnut bark thing. It tasted super fresh. The item that's closest to my coffee was probably my favorite item. Will come back for more when I'm in the mood for that kind of dessert. This cute little Greek cafe/bakery in Soho is such a great find. Whether you're craving something savory or something sweet, you will be satisfied here. With great options like moussaka, pastitsio, dolmas, spanakopita, and many more, you can definitely have a nice (and delicious) meal here. NOTE: their hummus is really good, and has a delicious roasted garlic flavor. And their Tzatziki is THE best I've had in NYC so far. Moving onto the desserts: there's literally too many for me to list, but definitely do not miss out on their baklava varieties. Pistachio, coconut, almonds... literally drawers full of them! We wandered upon this bakery in Soho, as we were looking for a small snack. What a wonderful find! I wanted to try a square of "Pastitsio", which looked good to me, but I was not hungry enough for what seems to be a relatively heavy pasta and cheese serving. From the sign, it has minced sirloin beef, penne pasta, fresh tomato sauce, béchamel, and Kayseri cheese. Next time! Instead, we split a square of "Zucchini" (4 of 5 stars), which I would describe as a quiche with zucchini, without the crust. Nice and light. We also got a piece of "Karidopita" (4 of 5 stars), which is a dense brown cake with ground walnuts, cognac, cinnamon, cloves, orange zest, soaked in honey syrup. When I saw it, I immediately wanted to try it as I like dense cake soaked in sweetness. I didn't mind that my partner thought it was a bit too sweet for him because it meant that I could have more than half! I am generally not a walnut kinda guy, and I might have cut the small pieces of walnut a little smaller, but I would totally get another piece if we were walking by Pi Bakerie again. We got some mini baklava pieces to take home: Traditional and Pistachio. These baklavas were among the best we have ever had. They were soft, moist, and fresh! They were not dry and overly flaky/crusty like at many places. We preferred the traditional (5 of 5 stars), which seemed to have more soft filling over the pistachio (4 of 5 stars), which was a bit doughier. There is limited seating space, but we were able to find a small table in the corner. Be prepared to get it to go, if the tables are full. The staff was friendly, quick, and helpful. I had a greek yogurt bowl with fruit and honey (the yogurt was thick and delicious and fresh). I had the spinach quiche which was perfection. It was fluffy and flavorful without being overly egg-ie. Oh my gosh, wow, you have to check this place out! Despite the name, this place is so much more than just a bakery. In addition to their baked goods, they offer a number of savory items that you can easily make a full blown meal out of. I came here with a friend for a Sunday morning breakfast. We ordered some sort of spinach roll, a cheese and egg roll, a few different cookies, a slice of the orange pastry, and a bowl of greek yogurt. The cookies were just okay, pretty dry overall, but the chocolate one was very good! The Greek yogurt was so creamy and delicious-- you also get an extremely generous portion which was nice. The orange cake was so interesting and I've never had anything like it-- I believe it was phyllo dough soaked in orange and some type of simple syrup. It was so saturated that the texture almost resembled a very wet mound of coconut. I'd never had anything like it and are addicted to eating it because their was something so enticing about the new texture and the fresh citrus flavor. My favorite item however was the egg and cheese roll. The dough was very thick and tasted like a pizza, and the two different cheese complemented the egg and dough so nicely. I will definitely going back here! Their Spanakopita was to DIE FOR! I only have that and a Greek salad while visit g there but everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing. They have homemade Greek yogurt, an entire coffee menu, and tons of fresh baked pastries. Their pricing wasn't too too bad. Early Saturday morning, and this bakery is bustling with people inside and outside. Lots of things to look through at the glass window - ranging from pastries, to sandwiches, to Greek favorites. Place order to one of the workers behind the glass. Settled on a mini Spanakopita ($3), Chicken Pi ($11), and a large Iced Mocha ($6). The small spanakopita is a decent starter, a little pastry filled with spinach and cheese - wish I got the bigger version. Chicken Pi reminded me exactly of a chicken pot pie, minus the circular shape. Rich creamy interior; chicken itself is a little chewy. Iced Mocha is amazing, heavy chocolate flavor and just the right amount of coffee. Seating here is great as I snagged a table near the window to people watch. Often as I sat in traffic waiting to get into the Holland Tunnel in Soho I would look over to the right and see a curious sight. A small, nice looking building with the silouette of a cat on the roof and a beautiful looking store front. Was it a restaurant? Was it a cafe? I could never tell as I would eventually have to zoom away into the tunnel. Finally after a couple years of wondering I was walking down this block and wandered into Pi Bakerie. What I found was better than I had imagined. First, the space is absolutely gorgeous! Bright, beautiful walls and lighting. Simple, yet elegant looking shelves up to the ceiling and delicious looking food behind glass cases with bright lighting overhead. There is some limited seating but on this particular day I took my food to go. Pi Bakerie bases its style on Greek cuisine. As their name indicates, much of their food is baked so you will find traditional dishes such as Spanakopitaki and Moussaka. I did not try those, but they looked wonderful in the display case. No, on this evening I was focused on their dessert selection! I decided to pick up a few different items to try them out. Here are highlights from my choices: Melomakarona Reminding me a lot of Finikia, this delicious, cakey confection is absolutely delicious. It has a heavy, syrupy flavor with crushed nuts on top. If you have this with a coffee or other drink it is perfect. On its own it is a tad sweet for my tastes. Unlike Finikia the texture is much lighter and fluffier with the confection breaking apart fairly easily. I also had a confection that looked like a small empenada but the outside was solid and the inside was a fruity, sweet filling. I loved how crisp the outside was and how chewy the inside was. I am afraid I did not catch the name of this item (and it does not appear on their web site). Another cookie I had was round and covered in powdered sugar. I missed the name of it (and it does not appear on their online menu) but it was delicious and delicate with a wonderful buttery flavor. I would gladly go back to Pi to check out more of their desserts. I would also love to try a meal there as well. I recommend you do the same! read more

I'm not sure exactly what I ordered but it was a square piece of breading stuffed with chicken, veggies, and a familiar gravy. As I consumed it thoughts of chicken pot pie flourished in my mind. A chicken pot pie is an unrivaled cuisine in my mind. It is a legit top 5 dish. And this place did not mess it up. It was up there as one of the pot pies I've ever had. Greek yogurt -- Before today I had never seen 12% milkfat anything before. It's exactly as I would have imagined -- difficult to run my spoon through, refreshingly and subtly tart. I'd only wish for the toppings to be a bit more generous to balance out the yogurt ratio but it was nice to be able to appreciate the yogurt's unique richness in full force. If you're an avid of a Greek yogurt fan as I am, this is definitely something to try! The zucchini pi -- I love zucchini noodles so this gave me a lot of the same satisfaction of eating that same sort of crunchy noodly texture except incased in a fresh feta pie. I would have gone for the moussaka for something heavier and satisfying but the zucchini pi was perfect for the mood I was in at the moment of wanting to walk around in the bright cool morning. The trigona (custard + phyllo pastry) -- This had what was perhaps the most delicate phyllo that I've ever experienced -- soooo light and crisp that I could barely touch it without it breaking apart. More light and airy and much less honey-gooey than a baklava. Moussaka - The ground beef and potatoes were surprisingly light and fresh, if it makes sense to describe these ingredients that way. The potato was more cirspy than soft. Moussaka is a little greasier than the other pis available here. The two-cheese melt thing on top had a soft, melty texture and a rich flavor that I found interesting. Green Harvest - This is like a miracle-gro spanakopita. The inside is basically a dense cake of vegetables that all have the micro-bitterness that spinach has in spanakopita, or that swiss chard might have. It's great for someone who loves vegetables as much as I do, and the phyllo dough is given as much love and attention and nuance here as in any of the other pastries. I was surprised at how watery it got, and green juice from the vegetables ran all over my plate as I ate it. Taking all my treats and eating them outside on their benches in the sunny day was a perfect Saturday moment. The only thing I'm not raving about here are the prices. The trigona was about $3 and not much larger on one side than my thumb (and I have small hands). I'm used to breakfast sandwiches being less than $10 but a single slice of anything here is at least $12-14 so it's not an option if my friend and I are looking for a frugal breakfast. read more

Came here on a Monday morning, when I first walked in I thought of Paris Baguette because there was a wall of self service items that you pick yourself, but it's definitely not Asian inspired treats, it's Greek inspired. First I got the smoked salmon bagel, that bagel alone was $9. I'm not entirely sure why I got it, but I don't think it was worth the price. Yes, it tasted good, but it was barely stuffed and lacking, and not really filling. I do love smoked salmon, and the salmon itself was good, but the sandwich overall was lacking. Then, I got the Greek Yogurt. I got two scoops and that came with four toppings so I got strawberries, blackberries, granola and honey. I was satisfied with the yogurt, I thought it was a really good breakfast food and I would get it again. The tables were a bit messy, sometimes when it gets too busy I think they forget to clean the tables. It's also not a place for groups, its more of a solo cafe or a quiet cafe you would go to with one other person. Overall, I think the cafe is pretty cute. I think there is WiFi there because some people took out their laptops and were working on their computers. There was also someone reading a book there, which was nice to see because that's something that I would do. read more

There are few things in life comparable to what I call the "dessert wall" at Pi Bakerie. I admit, I was disappointed at how the photos made this place look huge. I thought it'd be the size of an Eataly; but its not much bigger in terms of size compared to any other LES cafe. But my god, the food. My last meal on Earth would consist of letting me run wild here for 2 hours. Delicious sandwiches, baked goods and cheesy breads. Deceptive, since they look very heavy and bready but it worked so well. I was surprised at how well balanced those pides are. I highly recommend that or their spanikopita but I'm sure everything here would be fantastic. Paired with their refreshing salads and tasty drinks; you should be a-ok. Great atmosphere.
