Loved everything about my recent salon experience at Pia's. I had Miho do my cut and color. Appointment was easily made online. It started right on-time with a detailed consultation for both cut and color. I felt appreciative that all of my needs and concerns were addressed. The service itself was fun and stress free. The facility is clean and comfortable. I appreciated the attention to details and the use of Milbon products. Lastly, free parking is available right onsite and Amex is accepted. I had a hair straightening treatment done at the Irvine location yesterday, and unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. The stylist burned my hair so badly during the process, that it became extremely damaged and started falling out on its own.I had no choice but to get a short haircut to remove the worst parts. When I asked about it, he blamed it on my highlights and casually said, "Don't worry, it will regrow." I wished he had checked and monitored my hair during the process to prevent this from happening. To make matters worse, they still charged me the full price for a service that completely ruined my hair. Now, I'm stuck waiting a whole year for my hair to grow back to a length and condition I like. Extremely disappointed and would not recommend this place. read more

I made an appointment for a root touch-up with Takashi since this salon had good reviews and I have always wanted to try a Japanese hair salon. You would think it would be an easy, seamless appointment, but it went all wrong. I came 30 minutes early and didn't have a proper consultation prior to him working on my hair because we were interrupted a minute after we started talking because a client came in. I told him I wanted a root touch up and that I already have blonde highlights and low lights. He told me the client was there for a bang trim appointment that was booked 15 minutes before my actual appointment which would be quick. It turned out to be a 30 minute Japanese hair straightening consultation which also went 20 minutes total into my appointment because the lady came back in with more questions after initially leaving. After consulting that potential client, he went straight to the back to mix up the color without talking or confirming with me. When I booked the appointment I selected their retouch option as that was the closest I found to a root touch up. In the comment box, I mentioned I have blonde hair and just wanted a root touch up. When I log into my account now the appointment type has been changed to highlight all over. I ended up with darker, badly highlighted hair when I did not ask for any color change. I was in complete shock and asked him to fix it because I was not going to leave the salon looking like that. I still had roots because he did not put the lightener close to the scalp. He tried to remove the coloring, and the end result was ugly, brassy hair which looked nothing like the hair color I came in with. He told me my definition of a root touch up is different from their terminology used in their salon. They call it a full highlight instead which is news to me. I am so disappointed with my results and now I have to pay extra to go somewhere else and get it corrected. See photos attached for the before, after, and after "correction". She pays incredible attention to detail and was very patient in answering all my questions as this was my first time dying my hair. She's extremely informed about styling and dying hair and made sure I decided exactly what I wanted before getting started. I didn't like my hair from the box highlights and at-home bangs that happened from the lockdown (lol) and the color turned out perfectly. I got so many compliments today! If you are calling to make an appointment, make sure you ask for the Irvine location, I think the receptionist was new and didnt ask me which location. I drove to the Irvine location but they told me the appointment was booked for Torrance. I had to go back the next day. On to the cut. Lia did an amazing job. If you ever doubt about coming here, my suggestion to you is DON'T. I was a bit skeptical into coming here since I had mixed feelings about cutting my hair or don't do anything to it. I had an appointment at 1 and I was seated exactly by the time. My hair stylist was Yuki, he was very polite and asked/consulted with me first with what/which part of my hair exactly do I want to be shorter. My answer to him was I don't really want to cut my hair any shorter, more of a trim off my split ends and fried/damaged parts of my hair. He understood what I wanted but in order to achieve it, he did show me approx. how much he will have to cut. He promised to keep the shape long/layer so my hair will still look long from the back. When he finished cutting my hair, he ensured that I like it. I love it! Thank you Yuki-San. My whole hair experience here was definitely awesome. New in town and looking for a new hair stylist, so I asked around and looked up this place on Yelp. A staff named 'Miho' seemed to be the star stylist here so I made an appointment with her. I showed her a couple photos of the style I wanted. She feels my hair and tries to get a grasp of what she'll do before jumping in. Even without too much explaining, she just gets it! This stylist has a pretty sharp sense and judgement on how much to trim off in length, proportion, balancing, thinning, layering & everything a pro should take into consideration when styling hair. She has great technique when it comes to using her scissors (something I can't say for all stylists I've been to since most of them think that simply scissoring away hair is all there is to styling). If you're someone who's looking to get chatty with your stylist, she's not the girl (at least in English). Although I had no issues communicating with her, English is not her native tongue and she does have a heavy Japanese accent. But if a hair stylist is this damn-good, I really don't care if he/she is a mute. There's a complimentary hair wash at the end. The facility is nice, clean, well-kept and pleasant (even has a fireplace). Men's hair-cut is $40 + tip. I gave 15% totalling $46. I left very satisfied and it was well-spent! read more

Lia really listened and delivered exactly what I was looking forward to, especially after a year of not seeing a professional stylist. She worked her magic and covered my stubborn grays and blended away my sad quarantine box dye attempts. I asked for bangs, which I've been turned down by other stylists to do because I have a short forehead and a widows peak. I'm ecstatic that she understood my hair and gave me cute bangs and awesome layered cut. I wrote a review 1 year ago, but I don't see it? I went in for Japanese Straightening with Lia, and I left with damaged hair. I left a tip because I was hoping it would get better, but really I think I was in shock over my hair. Twenty minutes after leaving the salon I called Takashi, and sent him pics of my hair. I got an appointment with him 2 weeks later, he tried to fix my hair, but it was too damaged. I have had my hair straightened by this method for the past 5 years by other hair stylists. In a pinch I tried Pia Hair Salon, this was a bad decision. My hair is still in bad condition. Pia did give me a refund for the service, but not my tip.
