After dining at Piatti's in Mill Valley for over a decade, we have recently been disappointed with our experience. The quality of service has declined, with the waitstaff often being inattentive to simple requests, such as asking for salad dressing on the side. This lack of attention to detail significantly affected our dining experience - for example, my partner's salad arrived drenched in dressing. Additionally, we found the cost of bread and breadsticks to be excessive at $10, and the bread itself was bland and flavorless. While we understand that prices have risen--something we see across the board in dining and grocery costs--it is reasonable to expect that with these increases, the level of service should remain high. During our last visit, we had a party of 9 and requested that the bill be split among three credit cards. However, the waiter refused and insisted that we "sort it out among ourselves", further stating, "we can only take a maximum of two credit cards to pay for this bill." WHAT? This was quite surprising, as we have dined in many restaurants throughout Marin and the Bay Area with large groups and have never been told we couldn't use more than two credit cards. It was not a welcoming experience. We also felt rushed to leave once we finished dessert. Given these experiences, we believe there are plenty of other Italian restaurants in Marin, and we do not plan to return to Piatti's. read more

I am giving today's experience 2 and I feel that is being generous. I have never been one who complains about a restaurant experience because I know how hard the job is. I am thankful for not having to cook and to be focused on those I am sharing a meal with. I have been to Piattis many times. We have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and the like. Today was the worst experience I have had there. I would go as far to say the worst experience I have had at any restaurant. The waitstaff was not only overwhelmed but seemed to have no idea what they were doing. 30 min in and we hadn't even had waitstaff check on us. 45 min in and we finally got to order. I ordered the $17- pancakes for lunch and they arrived with cold syrup, even worse it was the fake stuff which ruined the dish. I had to ask for silverware and napkins for the table. $17- and I don't even get real maple syrup? What is happening here? Is there new management? Systems need a reboot along with some training. I will not be back any time soon. read more

Open continuously for over 40 years. There is a reason that this place is maintained it standard of fine food and beautiful location and people return. When a person eats here, it's hard not to just sit and dissect the food and taste every little wonderful nuance that's been built into the sauces the pastas and seasonings. I can say that almost everything that you eat here is made here from the pasta to the gelato. I can say that having been here over 40 years ago that the quality has maintained itself throughout the menu and I always make sure I taste a little of several things and share with my wife. Nestled right next to Shelter Cove harbor in Mill Valley, California right next to Highway 101 is a gem of a gathering place. It's like a little slice of Italy, right there by the water with its olive trees and Lombardi Poplar trees on the sides of the building and that beautiful wisteria, climbing the trellis in the front. Funny thing. I went over to smell the wisteria as I was approaching the restaurant and the smell of the food that was coming from the restaurant made it so I couldn't smell the flowers and it smelled so delicious. I couldn't wait to get inside. We were immediately greeted at the door by two nice young ladies that were hostesses then seated at a window seat with the beautiful view of shelter Bay and Mount Tamalpias in the background. Adam C was our server. He was very welcoming. Everywhere we looked tables were waiting for people to sit, and by the time we left many of those places were already filling up for the dinner crowd. The food passed by our table while we were ordering looked amazing and we couldn't wait to see what our look like. We got our menus made our decision and you'll see our choices below in photos. We started with the arugula, pear and beets, salad with goat cheese, fennel, and lemon vinaigrette perfect perfect perfect. It wasn't too acidic. I could taste everything individually and those wonderful flavors of each ingredient rose through it all. For an entrée, I had the Ricotta Gnocchi Arrabiata. All the ingredients in this were fresh which included also Snap Peas, Calabrese, Broccoli Rabe,, Fresno, chili and Pecorino. I must warn you the Fresno chili has a little bit of a kick to it so it's for the heat lovers of Italian food, southern Italy style. My wife had the Mushroom Campanelle. This had kale, Sofrito, oregano, pecorino, and walnuts.. Everything and every layer of what we ate, had layers of incredible flavor. I made sure that I was able to wash down my meal with a nice glass of red wine We finished off a perfect meal with desert. We had a bowl of the most incredible pistachio gelato I have ever had. It was amazing and all the flavor the pistachio was in it. We also had Zeppo's. These are lovely, large size donut holes Italian style with blueberry curd, lemon curd and fennel sugar. I will make a recommendation at this point that if you are going to go during peak hours that you make reservations otherwise it's first come first serve. But all in all the entire experience was well worth the view and the ambience let alone the food. read more

PIATTI DID THE RIGHT THING. I ordered a salad with salmon on top. It was delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Because I could eat only half of it, I asked for a box to take the rest home. After a long-ish wait, I asked about it. The waitress returned to the table with an apology. Half of that wonderful lunch had been discarded. BUT -- she asked us to wait just a minute more. The food was so amazing. The noodles were perfectly al dente. The sauce was divine. For dessert, I had the raspberry sorbet and my friend had the chocolate cake. Both were delicious! I definitely recommend getting a table by the back windows for some lovely views. read more

Had not been here in a couple of years. I'm guessing it was sold because the food quality had very much gone down hill. The service was OK but it was like they were not paying attention because things were coming out wrong communication problems maybe. When we did get our food, lasagna, Caesar salad and white bean soup. It was all way over salted. The salad was way overdressed they charge extra for bread which is OK except forgot to bring it the weirdest was being charged a dollar when asked to add a splash of cranberry to a drink order there are so many better restaurants in Mill Valley and Southern marin. I enjoyed a very pleasant lunch here with excellent service and a view. The arugula salad was recommended and quite tasty. The server asked if I'd like bread to go with my salad- I assumed it was complimentary (my mistake) so was surprised to see it on the bill. I ordered the broccolini to go and although the taste was very good it was so al dente that I could only eat the tips. My husband and I went there today for lunch. We are regulars at the restaurant. Sometimes I go by myself, or with my husband or friends. Most of the employees there know who I am. I ordered the cauliflower soup. I know that they add cream to it. But, in the past, it didn't taste that creamy as it did when I ate it today. I ate about half a bowl. Then, proceeded to have a light salad. After I finished the soup, my stomach started to churn! I barely ate the salad and we left. I knew something was wrong with the soup! The minute I got home, I started to throw up! It was all of the soup! We called the restaurant to let them know; my husband spoke to the chef directly. Don't know how that soup was prepared, whether they had poured too much cream in it or not. It really doesn't matter, it was made very poorly! I write this review because sometimes restaurants don't pay attention when a customer gets sick and lets them know about it. I don't want anyone else to go through what I went through! This is a local restaurant with various locations, the food is basic Italian and it's pretty decent. This location is right off the freeway right on the water so it is close by. I think it would be a good place to go for a couple drinks and appetizers. I don't know if I would go back for dinner. It has a parking lot so parking should not be a problem, but traffic is bad in this area during commute times so that might be a reason not to go because you will be sitting in your car for a while on the freeway. read more

We enjoyed a warm welcome from the bar staff... a very sincere and friendly welcome, combined with well-crafted cocktails. Also, their wines-by-the-glass menu offered a good variety of domestic, and equally important to me, some intriguing imported varietals. The high quality of service followed us to our table. Our waiter was pleasant, professional, and patient with our slow ordering and request for descriptions of the dishes. (insert polite applause here, for the waiter). We ordered several starters and main dishes... Fritto Misto, Caesar Salad, Barata for starters, and the Cioppino, Ravioli, ...all wonderful! However...I have to warn you of the Eggplant Parmesan! It was beautifully designed, but very poorly executed. The eggplant was very much undercooked, the sauce was so flavorless that I suspected that it was jarred sauce, except that jarred sauce has salt in it. The stack-design made it nearly impossible without collapsing the whole thing. It would have been much better done in the traditional baking dish style. Homestyle. For dessert we thrilled to the Tiramisu, it was heavenly! Coffee and ports made for the perfect ending to the meal. read more

Piatti recently underwent a remodel and I must say, it looks quite nice and certainly adds to the ambiance. Even if you can't get a table outside with the view of the water, you won't be disappointed being indoors - the decor is modern yet inviting. I'd also suggest making a reservation as it fills up pretty quickly. It's a bit of a bummer that they don't offer complimentary bread for the table. Bae wanted to order their focaccia, which is one of my least favorite types of bread, but I'll admit that it was pretty good and the dipping sauce was on point. If it wasn't $8 for a few small slices of carbohydrates, I'd give them a higher rating. I was really excited for my wagyu steak (cooked medium), but then was quickly disappointed when it wouldn't cut...it was chewy and NOTHING like wagyu at all. This was not your typical tender steak and at this price tag, you'd expect better. The server was kind enough to offer me another dish, but I feel guilty when I waste food so I sucked it up and finished my dish. The bed of potatoes it sat upon were pretty tasty though - I only wish they were crispier, but flavor was definitely there. Bae's short rib was yummy, but could have used a boost in portion size. The ratio of meat to polenta was unbalanced and left you digging for more meat bits to pair with each remaining bite of polenta. Whatever tomato sauce that was drizzled all over was fire and made that entire dish. Whenever I see panna cotta, I'm usually inclined to order it. This was a vanilla bean base with hints of thyme and huckleberry on top. Texture-wise, it was a bit too firm and almost felt like a jello. The thyme was overpowering, but the acidity of the huckleberry added a nice contrast. Would I order that again? Nah. Whenever I see flourless chocolate cake, I'm usually less than inclined to order it. I'm not one for chocolate cakes to begin with (except from Casa de Chocolate - highly recommend!), but something about flourless ones really takes the appeal away altogether. Bae said it was ok and nothing more was said, which says plenty in my book. So there you have it! 1 point for the ambiance, 1 point for the potatoes, and one point for the short rib. I ordered a half dozen oysters and spaghetti. Service was friendly, informative, efficient and easy. The bar tenders are knowledgeable and clean. No one was on their phone and washed their hands frequently. I felt like a priority and the food is delicious. The food at Piatti is solid Italian fare, but the best thing about this location is its view and outdoor seating. There are a limited number of tables outside but nothing beats that setting on a warm summer day. We ordered the calamari, gorgonzola and apple salad with chicken and the zeppole (pretty much fried dough). The salad was okay but the fried foods were much tastier and a surer bet. Both locations. This restaurant charges bread and dipping sauce. Refills of dipping is $2 each time. The bread and sauce are good. Flat bread Margherita is very good. Not pizza dough but bread dough. They don't have seafood pasta on weekends. I went during the week they don't have seafood pasta either. No lasagna . The weekend menu comes with Branch it's more towards Americano taste then Italian. I loved this cute Italian restaurant, one of my new favorites! The exterior is very charming and the inside has a lively yet romantic feel, so it's perfect for small groups or a date night. The Arancini is to die for!!!! They are these perfectly fried, lightly breaded morsels of heaven filled with risotto and the prefect blend of gooey cheeses. I will come back just for this appetizer, I hope it's not seasonal! Definitely a must try, or suffer major FOMO. We also ordered the Campanelle and Shrimp spaghetti, both delicious, and very flavorful. The Campanelle was a unique dish- had mushrooms, kale and walnuts. Delicious combo that was well seasoned, a bit salty but just a tad. I love that all their pastas are handmade, I didn't even know there were so many different types and shapes. Our party of seven was generally satisfied with their dishes, and the service was attentive, polite, but not pushy. I particularly enjoyed enjoyed my eggplant parmigiana and flat bread pizza. The caesar salad was only satisfactory. Imagine you are out with friends, maybe 3 couples, maybe 4 friends like we were at this dinner, and the MANAGER tells you, " Work it out amongst yourselves, we can only take maximum 2 credit cards to pay for this bill." Really nice old favorite that's been pleasing our palettes for about 25 years I believe or more now. Homemade pastas like the short rib sugo with parppadeli and rigatoni bolognese are a few of my favorites. I was surprised at how good it was, even from a take out container. The panna cotta was also wonderful. Our plates were packaged nicely and kept warm on the drive home. The food tonight at Piatti's was amazing! Our table started with the frito misto appetizer, which was really really good, I would never have thought I would've liked battered fried lemons, but they were amazing and the aioli I could eat with anything - fries, vegetables, Pizza, really just about anything!!! We ate every last drop of that aioli! Our table had the chicken alfredo, the chicken mattone puttanesca and short ribs. The short ribs with mouthwatering polenta might have been the best meal of all, but we all loved our meals, and felt like we picked the best dish for ourselves,! I didn't order the polenta but I tasted it and wow, just wow, the mascarpone polenta was divine, heavenly delicious, I could eat that every day!!! Dessert was as amazing as the rest of the wonderful meal here. We shared the panna cotta and flourless chocolate torte. We loved them equally, but the chocolate was pretty amazing in that it was a wonderful rich dark chocolate taste, but it was not heavy and the whipped cream and raspberry on top was the perfect complement. All in all our mouths were singing with the delightful flavors! The meal was divine but the evening was made perfect by the service. The service was impeccable, Jesus was very attentive as was Josh the supervisor who checked in on us and the cook who came out to make sure we were happy with our meal and we absolutely were!!! They really took care of us, the service was really perfect. We felt taken care of!
