I've been here a few times and just can't quite figure out this place. The space by the bar area is my favorite as it is more lively than the back room dining. Their wine list leaves a lot to be desired and their food menu is not inspiring. It would be great if they added more apps for those of us who wish to just have a cocktail and easy apps. Really nice place in Summit where you can walk around and entertain yourself with all the nice store front businesses. The light music you will hear will have you humming without notice. The nice modern decor and color tones will have you feeling welcome and good. My Pan Seared Chicken Paillard, Saltimbocca Style, Arugula, Tomatoes, Red Onion, Prosciutto. Was very good. My friend had Pan Seared Gnocchi Bolognese Slow Cooked Beef, Pork, Wine, Parmesan Cheese and it was really tasty. I tried it and would have traded for that. This place is really good. From the moment we stepped inside, I was impressed by how beautiful and thoughtfully decorated the space was--such a cozy yet stylish vibe. We shared a margarita pizza, and it was everything you'd want in a pizza--crispy thin crust and packed with flavor. But the real star of the show? The espresso martinis. I'm always on the lookout for a great one, and these did not disappoint. The food was fantastic. The spicy vodka was just the right amount of spicy where the build up won't get to you but the kick is just right. The parm may look small but it's mighty. So filling !! My family was searching for a place without a wait in Downtown Summit and Piattino's met the bill. The service and food were both good. we sat in the back section of the restaurant, that appears to be a small party room. It wasn't too loud. The salmon was well cooked and came with a vegetable risotto that was delicious! My daughter had a kids pizza and typically only has part of a slice. She devoured more than two slices. The Caesar salad was the perfect size. The only criticism is that a small glass of coke (not even a full can) was nearly $4. Overall, it was a good experience. read more

Even mid-afternoon, the place had a great vibe with diners still enjoying the outdoor seating. We were warmly welcomed and seated right away. The menu had a tempting selection of Italian dishes and wood-fired pizzas. We chose to share the Classico Spaghetti & Meatballs--three tender, flavorful meatballs with fresh Bucatini, ricotta, and a rich San Marzano tomato sauce that was truly exceptional. Our server thoughtfully split the dish for us, and the service throughout was friendly and attentive. We skipped dessert, but left completely satisfied. Took 20 girls to piattino summit for my daughters 14th birthday. The manager Nelly was fabulous. She helped me pick the perfect amount of food so everyone had enough to eat. She suggested the right amount of apps, entrees pizza salads etc. The service was impeccable! Especially during a busy time of year (Christmas). We had a small group come here for our annual University get together and the space was great!! Nellie (our hostess) was wonderful and jumped right in and managed our group so professionally. The food was fresh and hot with a wide selection for all. The bartender was attentive and kept our group refreshed. We used the front area so the the space was intimate and away from the main dining room which was wonderful and not intrusive to other diners on a Tuesday night. Piattino is a nice place to sit outdoors on a summer night. My family was In a truffle mood, so we got the funghi pizza and the Bianco truffled carbonara pasta. My kids enjoyed the pizza, which had decent truffle flavor. My pasta was a bit too rich and creamy for me but perhaps carbonara is not my thang. However i liked the truffle flavor with the pancetta and peas. My fave was the meatball app. Service was friendly and nice outdoor neighborhood atmosphere. read more

Food wise- the margarita pizza is light and tasty, meatballs are great too topped with ricotta- meatballs can be a little dense thought, carrot risotto balls are moist, Bianco carbonara is excellent- my go to, ravioli is cooked perfectly and pairs so well with the cheese sauce. Thought the interior and decor were very nice. Food was really yummy enjoyed everything. However the service was peculiar. Walked in at 1:30pm on Sunday. Only two other tables in the restaurant however we waited near the host stand for a minute or two, even though the female employee was standing right there she didn't acknowledge or greet us at all. Another server then sat us and waited on us. After 10 minutes the other two tables had left, leaving us the only remaining table in the restaurant. Our server was good however no sense of urgency. Throughout the entire meal the one other female employee who I assume to be the bartender just stood behind the bar applying coats of lipgloss while two separate groups of tables waited at the host stand. We sat and watched as the only other table about 10-15 people total crowding the front door while the one female bartender completely ignored the patiently waiting guests. Once she finished applying second coat of lipgloss she walked from behind the bar, through the crowd of waiting guests and into some employee door next to the host stand.I would have walked out if I were one of the guests waiting being blantanly ignored. Food was delish but would not go back because of this experience. On the way into our car we regretted not trying the Office tavern next door because it seemed to be pretty busy. read more

We just held our 50th High School reunion (Governor Livingston HS) at Piattino Neighborhood Bistro in Summit, NJ. I can't find enough superlatives to properly describe our event. The food was excellent, from appetizers to dessert. And the service absolutely exceeded our expectations. Drinks were brought to our tables during the open bar. The food service for each part of the meal was superb, attentive and friendly. The staff went above and beyond with assistance during our setup and as we were preparing to leave. And manager Amanda could not have been more helpful. We always felt as though the staff truly desired to make our evening special. Just saying thank you doesn't seem to say enough. read more

My family and I are adding Piattino's to our restaurant rotation. Not only was the interior adorable -- with a mix of modern and old-fashioned lighting all around, and a sweeping bar area -- but the service, dinner, drinks, and dessert were all high quality. Our waiter, a young Italian gentleman (I wish I knew his name! Alas, it was not on the receipt), was so personable and good-humored. Our food came out quickly and we each loved our dishes. For mine, I had the Neopolitan Chicken Parmigiana. Although the red sauce was a tad watery, the dish as a whole was so incredibly yummy. The fettuccine must be made in-house; it tasted so fresh. Perfect portion size too. Dessert as well was scrumptious -- we split the creamy cheesecake and tiramisu amongst the four of us. Piattino's is right in the heart of downtown too so it's so accessible, albeit parking can be a bit difficult. Will happily return!! read more

Me and my fiance met my parents here for a night of tons of food and having a mini engagement celebration. Because what better way to celebrate love than with copious amounts of Italian food?? This spot is nestled right in Summit center, across from the train station. I don't come to this area too much, but everytime I do I fall a little in love with it. This downtown area especially is just so dang cute. We started with a bottle of red wine, the pasta e fagioli, the oven baked meatballs and roasted beet salad. Everything was delicious! The waitress was super helpful and didn't mind the small changes like a swap in salad dressing. For dinner I got the pan seared salmon (one of my go-tos anywhere) and thought they did a great job. It had a ton of flavor and was cooked perfectly. The space is pretty large on the inside, much bigger than you'd think. So I can see this being a nice place for a larger party. It doesn't have a very cozy or intimate feel but you can't really have both. I'd recommend! read more

Great ambiance, mediocre food, horrible service. We were a party of 3 for dinner last night. Were seated without drink menus, waited for waitress to return and ordered drinks, apps, and dinner. Apps arrived, no drinks. Flagged waitress again and received 2 of the 3 drinks. Third drink arrived along with one entree, while we were still eating apps. Entree was a hot dish so one guest ate dinner. Remaining entrees did not come out until flagging waitress. Ordered bread for the guest who now had to sit and watch the rest of us eat and even that took forever. Once our waitress realized there was a service issue she disappeared, was literally hiding. Arrived and ordered 2 appetizers and did not even get to finish a quarter of them both before our meal arrived. We were asked if we would like the appetizers to be wrapped to go. It was so unprofessional that we said "yes" in order to move on. So extremely forced to rush, in an empty restaurant no less, that it was over at this point. Always enjoyed coming here and actually worked in the corporate office in the past, and this is not how service should have been conducted. Had brunch here with group of friends on Sunday. Overall it was a good meal; it's a large space and they have a lot of outdoor seating. It looked like they were setting up for a bridal shower; it's be a good spot for that! They have a limited brunch menu (only 4 items), but also offer an "all day" menu which has pizzas, pastas and other entrees. The Sand-Izza breakfast sandwich (scrambled eggs, sausage, tomatoes, mozz,roasted peppers) was delicious; the French fries it came with were just ok. I'm a big fan of the Mendham outpost. Love the classic pizza. This visit to the summit eatery had me try the shrimp special - Tuesday only. The pasta wasn't seasoned enough to my taste, greens a touch too bitter and the shrimp just OK. Quite a surprise for a special. Service was perfect. The atmosphere lively and the restrooms spotless. I met up with a friend here for a weekday dinner after we decided to have dinner in Summit. Parking is a bit tough around here as it's across from the train station FYI. It wasn't very crowded (also weekday) but it's a big place (w/outdoor seating!) so I could see it getting crowded on the weekends. They have a nice sized bar area and happy hour specials too - good to know for next time! It was a open and warm space with wooden floors and comfy couch seating. Really liked the environment. They start you off with a complimentary flatbread to start which was sort of cold and blah. Moving on - service was good. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu but not pushy. I was craving meatballs ($11) so we ordered that to start. It comes w/3 giant meatballs. They were flavorful and w/good moisture and held up the next day when I ate leftovers. After deliberating the pasta vs. pizza (alot of cool pizza combos on the bend) - I opted for pasta and ordered the Bianco Truffled Carbonara for $16 which was creamy, flavorful, and delicious. It was one step up from your traditional carbonara. Infidelity recommended. My friend got the wild boar ragu which she loved as well. We were too stuffed to try desert but there were loads of options. Good meal and recommended! read more

We were driving up back up north after a quick weekend away and decided to make a dinner pit stop. We elected to look for a restaurant in Summit, a town we were not overly familiar with, but knew that it was a cute neighborhood with a quaint downtown that happened to be on our route. We came across the excellent reviews and enticing pictures for Piattino and opted to give it a shot. The restaurant was rather large, with dining available on the patio, surrounding the bar, and adjacent to the stone-fired oven. The number of customers picked up as the night went on, so they really needed that wealth of accomodations. We were seated at a comfortable table near the front windows and were presented with a basket of what was essentially slices of cheese-less pizza. The thin crust was topped with a light layer of sweet marinara sauce. We were having trouble deciding on which of the oven-baked specialties to order, so this pizza tease allowed us to eliminate more of it from our order so we could focus on pastas and other carb-filled indulgences. We began by sharing the Oven-Baked Meatballs starter, which included three substantial spheres of a ground veal, beef, and pork mixture. They were topped with a chunky marinara sauce, a creamy herbed ricotta, and a sharp pecorino Romano. The dish was heavenly and tasted even better when we put small slices of the meatballs on top of the sauced flatbread. For our entrees, we decided to share one pasta dish and one seafood dish. The Duck Maltagliati's long, thick pasta had been coated with a hefty ragu that included pulled duck, wild mushrooms, and truffle. Sprigs of thyme and a perfectly fried egg topped the noodles. The sauce was rustic and aromatic, but even its seductive flavoring did little to mask the dryness of the duck meat. We ordered our second main course from their monthly rotational and regional menu, which at that time was focused on Puglia. Our Pan-Roasted Cod was buttery and moist. The three large filets were surrounded by several Littleneck Clams, fennel, tomato, salt-cured olives, and lemon. The refined Mediterranean flavors were a much needed contrast to brawny flavors of the ragu. While we happy with the preparation of the cod, the clams were rather chewy and did not taste nearly as fresh. We agreed that we would be willing to return to the Piattino Neighborhood Bistro for its affordable prices and very generous portions (one of the only times we have ever had leftovers!). The food was perfectly good...just not great...so I would say it would be worthy of a 3.5-star rating. read more

We liked the roasted beet salad and the crispy eggplant dish but my Amalfi seafood dish was very salty and not much seafood for $29. Looked like most people were eating pizza. Visited for the first time tonight with a group of friends and was SUPER disappointed. Starting with the good part - the vibe inside is great! I loved the variety of seating options, decor, and music. That's where it ends, though. The service was HORRIBLE. I've never given less than a 20% tip, and tonight, we had to. Our waitress was SO lacking in training and knowledge. For example, the menu says "ask about our homemade pasta", so we ask which menu items have homemade pasta. She doesn't know. She tried to take our order 3000 times before we were ready. Then brought out our entrees when we weren't done with our appetizers, so we had her leave them on the table. Then she tried clearing the table 3000 times while people in the group were still eating their entrees. And she kept trying to take the plate of the last person who was CLEARLY still eating. She then brought dessert with all of the app AND entree plates still on the table. And didn't offer coffee etc until after dessert came. She was not trained on wine service, and did not handle serving to our party correctly (didn't give a fresh glass to taste the new bottle, and put our red wine in the ice bucket!) On top of that, the food was not good. Our meatball appetizer was over salted and tough. My chicken Parmesan and "homemade fettuccine" was inedible. The chicken had a weird, tough texture, and the sauce was incredibly bland. On top of that, one person in our party ordered a pizza and the waitress forgot to put the order in. She came by and checked how we were (when we were clearly all sitting and not eating) and couldn't recall what the person ordered. It came out 10-15 after everyone else's food. The only thing that was even halfway decent was the tiramisu for dessert - and they likely do not make it in house. Definitely will not be back. What a shame! read more
