The food was good and the staff very polite but I planned on having a cup of coffee along with a glass of water. I only took a half cup black to go with our meal. When I tasted it was cold. I asked our server if we could put it in a microwave to warm it. She said they don't have a microwave and after 1 PM the coffee is cold. The recipe you are given is not itemized so I have no idea how much I was charged for the coffee. My wife had gotten a small salad of some sort and I was curious if it was part of the meal price but again no itemized recipe. I am afraid that my current belief that the cafeteria style restaurant is yesterday played a part in the 3 star review. This is possibly the first visit here since the pandemic---Piccadilly remains loyal to its process---get in line, pass through the serving line, select your salad, then meat, vegetables, bread, dessert, and finally drink---all as it was in the past then get your bill, sit down eat and then pay. The only modification(s) is that you get your drink glass, then your bill and then fill your beverage. Also, it feels like the service line is shorter and more compact. The workers are as nice and polite as before---or perhaps nicer and more polite. The food remains the eerily the same and tasted familiar---so take that for what it's worth. I ordered entree, 2 vegetables and bread--a dolly like the past---and cost was around $14. Add tea and total cost was around $17. It was a pleasant experience overall and no real complaints--it's just that while Piccadilly remains the choice of others, and I have fond memories of it, this is no longer my place. read more

MY FAMILY LOVES PICCADILLY! We've been dining here for over 40 years and never had a bad meal. Some of our favorites are the country fried steak, roast beef, fried chicken, chopped steak, crawfish etoufee and our side favorites the carrot soufflé is amazing yum! The Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes w gravy, black eyed peas, cabbage and greens but actually you cant go wrong with any of them because everything is delicious and most meals are under$10. They have kid meals also. The food is always fresh, hot and seasoned good it's great comfort food and the desserts are so yummy. They open at 10:30 for lunch ! They have great desserts !! read more

Went there today and Crawfish and Catfish were OK, but the line Manager on duty name was Mike and he was very, very, rude and unprofessional! I walked in and politely ordered 2 to-go plates. As the server was fixing them, Mike walks up and rudely yells to me I didn't need to wait I needed to walk down to the sides. I politely tried to explain that I had a second order but he rudely interrupted me by yelling again "MOVE DOWN". Now I followed his instructions but also noticed that the server had mixed up my second order so I had walk back down to her and repeat what I had ordered. She apologized and corrected the order. This could have been avoided if rude guy Mike would have just gave me 30 seconds to let her fix the second plate. As I got to the register to pay I informed the cashier and both her and another employee told me his name was Mike and he has a history of treating customers that way. Piccadilly, the food order was for me and my 81 year old mother. She has been a customer since I was a child, and when she has Dr's appointments at the Lady of the lake Hospital we either eat inside or I pick her up an order to go. For many folks who grew up in BR, there is a little nostalgia when it comes to eating at Piccadilly. The rest of us visiting folk would simply look at this and call it a Cajun cafeteria or a Southern canteen. I can't say the food is all bad, but a lot of it isn't exactly good either. The positive take aways are few and far between the negative ones. For starters, the staff has always been polite and courteous, from serving the food to answering the phone. For a cafeteria, the place is rather clean yet I feel like I'm eating at a college campus or something - only instead of students, I see a lot of senior citizens. I'm told the prices are a little up there from over the years, though I didn't think my $11 tray of one item, two sides, and a drink were too overpriced. But its possible this meal was $5 back in the day. My first bite of my jambalaya would've made me think it was no more than $5 to begin with, since it was bland with a capital B. The rest of the choices weren't much more appetizing: buttered corn was a bit dry, jalapeno corn bread was also dry, and the broccoli with cheese was nothing short of underwhelming. The fried chicken was decent, but when only 1 dish out of several get a passing grade, that's when the thumb starts pointing down. At the very least, for all the times I've hit up Piccadilly throughout BR, i've always been guaranteed one good thing: A nearby parking spot (in a consistently empty lot). read more

The Piccadilly on Essen used to be somewhere to visit but not anymore. The food is not what it used to be AT ALL. I ordered fried fish, turnip greens, carrot soufflé, and garlic bread. The breading was falling off of the fish and the fish wasn't cooked throughly. The carrot soufflé was more like carrot bread; baked entirely too long. The garlic bread was as hard as a rock and the turnip greens tasted as if they were taking from the can and put onto my plate. Absolutely disgusting! I visited Piccadilly on Essen Lane in Baton Rouge, La. two weeks ago. I really appreciated the smiles, kindness, very clean, and great service from the young ladies, who were on the serving line. You don't get this kind of service a lot today from young ones. This was shown from the beginning of the line to the cashier who was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed, with a smile. I appreciated the service so much I asked to speak to the manager. I felt that this experience need to be addressed, because usually when a customer ask to speak with the manager it involves an complaint. So why not share when you have a good experience with the manager. I was very glad that I did, it helped me to see why this Piccadilly have such an Awesome staff, because the manager is very Kind, friendly and was making sure I had everything that was needed. She also was taking care of overseeing the food line and making sure everything was filled and together. Excellent management is KEY, because it help keep a good business going, make customers happy and keep them coming back, you definitely have what it takes, it shows not only with you but your staff and that's very important. Let's be honest: Piccadilly is the one place that folks claim they don't eat at but they do. It's funny, but the food is serious. I've been eating at Piccadilly for 30 years, and even though the changes have been many, the formula for really good food remains the same. My favorite dishes are the broccoli rice au gratin and the smothered okra, and I usually get the 4 veggie plate and go from there. The chicken fried steak and chopped beef are my go to dishes when the okra isn't available, and the cheesecake is actually some of the best around. There is really something for everyone here, and it was my parents' favorite place to eat. This is still the cream of the crop among cafeterias. FYI: The Broccoli Madeline salad is the original and still the best, and try the banana bread if they have it. read more

I had a somewhat traditional meal with carved turkey and cornbread dressing with turnip greens, carrot soufflé, beets, broccoli medley, and Community coffee. Compared to other locations the food is different and so is the service. I have never been to this location but just so happened to be in the area. Don't get me wrong I enjoy Piccadilly and I never have a problem with there food but everything here taste totally different from the other locations. I wasn't satisfied for the price I paid and plus Piccadilly is going up on everything so I would definitely pick a place like Tony's Seafood over them any day. The staff is very easily offended. I asked simple questions and they automatically get defensive even if you're not talking to them. I asked my little cousin if she liked thighs or drumsticks and they were offended because all they had is thighs. They waitress we had in the dining area wasn't very attentive. We had to get a lot ourselves and when I asked for crackers she told me they were on the line like you should of grabbed them before you sat done. Sorry I was too busy attending to two kids. We ate the food because we were starving not because it was good. Overall, Piccadilly is not a bad restaurant at all. "Hospital food is a clear winner over this place"! I went here in a pinch because I have never tried it and wanted a quick, hot meal (that was not fast food). Honestly, I would have done better at the fast food chain on either side of this establishment and probably would have spent a lot less money. Upon walking in, it was nice because there was actually a lovely gentleman providing live music in the dining area. I got in line, chose my food and sat down. Unfortunately, my daughter and I could barely finish what was on our plate... $11 spent was a complete waste! My daughter was still a bit hungry, but I felt terrible about feeding her this low-quality food! I would dine in a hospital cafeteria before coming back here any day of the week! My thoughts... are 'what in the world, did I just experience'? And when I sat down to eat, the girl was very attentive and kept checking on me to make sure I didn't need a refill or anything else. The food was just ok though. I had the red beans and rice. I love Piccadilly but this wasn't the best visit. The service was friendly but the food was a disappointment. I basically get the same meal every time I visit. Hamburger steak, macaroni and cheese and some type of veggies... oh and a dinner roll. The gravy on the hamburger steak was really thick which was unusual, the macaroni and cheese was runny and lacked flavor but my corn was good. The saddest part of all is my dinner roll tasted stale and looked stale too! I'm so disappointed but will probably give it another chance a few months from now. I visited here a few days ago right before they closed. Unfortunately, I locked myself out of my car and had to call pop a lock. While everyone left after closing up the Assistant Manager, Demi Mitchell, noticed me and my 2 year old were outside alone in the parking lot. She checked to make sure everything was okay and when I told her what happened she stayed behind to make sure we were okay and received assistance. Being in the Air Force that's something we always go by. Never leave an Airman behind and it's also a part of our values. Service before self. I was expecting a diner but what we got instead was an old fashioned cafeteria with white hatted folk behind the buffet line waiting to serve you. Like an old fashioned smorgasbord, Piccadilly is one long, amazing line of soul food. They had everything from shrimp ettoufee over rice to smothered hamburger steak and fried catfish. Salad to dessert there is something for everyone here. I had Lima beans. I haven't had Lima beans in a hundred years. It was good and I'd return. If I lived here I'd go after church but since I don't go to church I'd go when it's not so busy. I've always had a good experience dining in Piccadilly restaurants and ordering from their catering service. However, the quality of the food I received for Thanksgiving catering this year was poor. In addition, there were no cooking instructions included. I called the store for the information and the food was still cold when I heated it based on what I was told to do. In addition, the food was not what I expect from Piccadilly as it was of poor quality and everyone at my gathering agreed it was not tasty. I've tried calling the Essen Lane location, the restaurant in which I picked up the food, but no one answered the phone after numerous attempts. I've also called the corporate headquarters and was promised a call back from the store manager on my first call to them, but there was no follow-up communication. When I called back, the person answering the phone said a regional manager would call me back, but, again, no communication. I am terribly disappointed with this entire experience and will never order from their catering service again. I'm truly appalled that they won't even contact me. read more

We always make it a point to visit Piccadilly when in Louisiana. It is a family tradition. So when we invited my aunt out to eat she insisted that we go to Piccadilly. Now we know that all Piccadillys aren't created equally. As a matter of fact the last time I was in Louisiana my cousin took me to one in New Orleans that turned me off from Piccadilly. But I must say that this Piccadilly renewed my faith. Now as is the case with Piccadilly some dishes are hits and others are misses. Fortunately you can pick and choose, mix and match. All of us (my two aunts and I) chose different options and we all enjoyed our food for the most part. There were some dishes I didn't finish, but my main dishes were good. I must say that what impressed me most was that the food was relatively fresh for a buffet (unlike the one in NOLA) and the staff was super friendly. They treated my 85 year old aunt like a queen. This really lifted her up because she doesn't get out to eat much. Not sure why the ratings at this location are so low, but we had a nice meal with lots of options.
