I've never been here, only heard about them. I'm from Texas where we have Luby's so I'm forced to compare the two. Lubys wins hands down! This food at Piccadilly is so unseasoned and bland it tastes like hospital food. I should've known it would be bad by the location in an abandoned mall and the fact everyone eating there was above 65. The chicken was bland and dry, the mac n cheese was watery with old bay seasons?!? Two stars for the sweet pot pie. It was good. read more

Piccadilly's has been a neighborhood favorite for years, and I've been coming here for just as long. I know the menu like the back of my hand--and there are certain things I always look forward to. Let me tell you... the baked chicken? So soft, juicy, and tender. The fried chicken is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, just how I like it. When the roast beef is sliced nice and thin? Baby, it melts in your mouth. That crab-stuffed fish? Moist, tender, and packed with flavor. I love it! My mama and my sister always go for the beef liver--they say it hits every time. The spoon bread is so good and soft, and don't get me started on the dinner rolls--I could eat a tray of those by themselves. I also love the carrot soufflé (just sweet and smooth), and the broccoli casserole is something I'll always grab if I see it. I'll take mashed potatoes or rice with just about any meat, and the cabbage is good too--but I like to add a little butter to mine. Now this is September 2025, and right now they've got a special going on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday--two meals for $29, all day long. That comes with a drink, a roll, one entrée, and two sides. You can't beat that. Let me shout out Ms. Vera--she is my absolute favorite. Such a sweet and lovely lady. But honestly, I haven't had a bad server there yet. The vibe is always good. I always love Piccadilly after church on a Sunday. The line is long but it's always worth it. All of our food was hot and tasty. I normally get the hamburger steak but tried the fish stuffed with crab meat. It was okay but I think I will stick with the usual next time. You can never go wrong with many of the options here. Me and my mom went to Piccadilly in the old Newmarket North Mall building today in Newport News. It's been years since I've been there and I was glad to know there was at least one left in the area. They had most of their classics today: liver n onions, chicken and dumplings, carrot souffle', mac n cheese, lemon ice box pie, etc. The staff was friendly and efficient. Vera our server was exceptionally nice and friendly and seems to be loved by many customers. She is a gem. The food was good just like I remembered. The food is ok. Nice, hot & it's prepared with love. It's a great spot for those who are sensitive to salt or have overactive tastebuds. Service great, helpful, server was named Ms D. ( salt and pepper fro ) nice lady. Ambiance gives old lady.... Gives clean but southern country old lady decor. Old white lady. In fact all the images I saw were of white people. If ever you want southern cooking just head over to Piccadilly Cafe, you can choose desserts from sweet potato pie, bread pudding, and cakes to fresh baked rolls, corn bread, Mexican corn bread and even southern style spoon bread. A verity of entrees like their Fried Swai that came with 3 fresh and hot pieces. Along with my meal came with 2 sides which I choose macaroni and cheese along with broccoli and cheese. I also added corn which were all hot and very flavorful. The chef salad was even good. The prices will run a bout $12 to $13 but more than $14 depending on what you get and if it is a small or lager portion size. But all meals come with 2 sides and your choice of bread . You definitely can't beat that.You want be disappointed. And if you are a liver and onions or chopped steak type of person Piccadilly's is definitely good. read more

Upon the third try of me trying to order from here I finally got an order delivered. I ordered a 4 side plate withashed potatoes, buttered cabbage, cucumber onion and tomato salad, and Neptune salad and a chocolate chip cookie dessert. First the driver called and informed me that they were out of the dessert, no alternative was offered. When my order was dropped off at my door I thanked the driver and he left. When I opened my plate it was only halfway full (only two of the four sides), and it had mashed potatoes and a zucchini /squash medley. So in addition to what I didn't get, I also got a side I didn't even order. The delivery service refunded 50% off my meals price but needless to say I am still hungry and I will never be ordering from here again. read more

I love Piccadilly food. I eat there about two to three times a week. I really enjoy the fresh cooked broccoli and the cabbage. The carrot souffle is unbelievable. And the yeast rolls are warm and tender. Piccadilly is my go to for an old fashion cafeteria style meal. And let me not forget the staff. When you know you know! I grew up in the cafeteria style dining era and grew very fond of going with my Grandmother to Morrison's and Piccadilly's when they were in RVA. Both have been closed for some years now but a few years back I was told that there was still location in the 757 so we take a short road trip to nostalgia and order some of our favorites! Everyone was passed starved as we did a bit of shopping before getting to the location before closing (new hours since Covid). So I typically get the same exact meal, liver and onions with gravy, their amazingly yummy carrot soufflé and broccoli and cheese! Liver has an acquired taste but their version is tender calf liver and just plain ole good! Did I mention the carrot soufflé...SO GOOD! The cafeteria ladies/staff are super nice and make sure your order is served with care! We were got there in the last 30 mins so I missed getting my spoon/batter bread (I forfeited so my mom could get the last scoop) but everything else was soooo good! I was looking for a cafeteria to dine at after my wife and I took the grandchildren to the Virginia Living Museum. Being strangers to the area, had a little trouble finding it due to it being the likely last retail business in an old mall that was being repurposed. Yes, the cafeteria looks like something out of the 70's or 80's, but the food, even with the relatively low price point, was very delicious. I had the chopped beef steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. the wife had the fried chicken, and the grandchildren had the children's meal with fish. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. imagine getting young children to enjoy a serving of fish. The staff were incredibly patient and friendly, including the lady who assisted us in getting the meal trays to our table. Had originally planned to go to Skrimp Shack which is pretty much next door. Don't know why the door was open to let people in. Went in. Was totally ignored by a bunch of teenagers. After a few minutes I was told they were closed. Won't go back there. Piccadilly was probably the bomb when it first opened but now it is old and dingy. The carpet is old and worn, even the sign outside is old and faded. And btw the men's room WREAKS of urine and the checklist hanging on the door stating "clean and odor free", LOL, had not been checked off by any employee all day! Had wanted the fried fish but they said it was made to order. I was hungry and couldn't wait. Hadn't had liver and onions in years so I got that with a couple of sides. The food would have been 100% better if it had been hot. It was lukewarm at best. Should have waited on the fish. Kids eat for .99 all day Thursday! I love restaurants that have food specials for kids under 12. Since my boys are 2, I'll be utilizing the kids eat free and reduced price dinners for the boys for the next 10 years. I managed to get in before the dinner rush and got my boys through the line. I got them both chicken strips, Mac and cheese while one had carrot soufflé and the other mashed potatoes and gravy. I ordered the all you can eat fried fish with 2 sides and bread pudding for desert. They always have a friendly wait staff that helps me with my trays and getting the boys to a table and strapped in. The food was hot and fresh. The boys always crush their food. One of my sons calls the Mac and cheese by name. He loves it. I thought the fried fish was pretty good. The breading was nice and I loved the crunch of the batter. I have to place the spotlight on their bread pudding. They make it with cranberries and you can get some rum sauce poured over the top to set it off. Love it. Sometimes I want to run to Piccadilly just for bread pudding. This place has been around for years. It has been consistently good since day one. Now that I have kids who can eat for .99 on Thursdays, it is the best place ever! read more

I was promised a refund by the manager the next day and still have not seen it 5 days later. The food was ok. But the Women Restroom was temporary out of order. I opened the door and the ceiling tile was hanging down and a bucket was catching the water. The floor was wet. I was directed to go to the Men Restroom which was Nasty. I spoke to the manager and asked him why was the restaurant open without proper restrooms for the guest. He looked at me and said it is temporary out of order. The restaurant should be closed and the restrooms fixed so that the customers can use as they needed. He said that the corporate office know about the Restroom, I told him I was going to call the health department, and I want the corporate number as well. This was my first visit to any Piccadilly and I had no idea what to expect. The entry was interesting and the cafeteria style was convenient. My only issue was I really had no idea what I was doing and people behind me were getting a bit impatient. Another customer gave me some guidance and I made my way down the line. You will certainly not lack for food here! They have ton of selections you can pick from and multiple "packages" that include different selections. I ordered a combo meal for myself and my husband to share as the amount of food they give you is insane. You can practically feed an entire family on a plate and a half of food. You definitely don't leave hungry! I had some Mexican style chicken with tomatoes and rice. The rice was not terribly good and the chicken was only okay. I did really enjoy the rolls. The food is mediocre at best but you certainly get a ton of it for your money and they have a lot to choose from. Decent lunch spot. read more

I never thought I'd rate a sogginess cafeteria with more than one or two stars. I've visited this Piccadilly all the way out in Hampton cuz it's the only one around anymore. It was recommended by a friend so I skeptically conceded in meeting there. Not cheap if you eat like me. All the veggies, salad, entree, beverage and of course dessert. It runs about $11 - 16 depending on your entry choice and much lower if you stick with the specials but I love trying things. Most of their standby veggies are canned so keep that into consideration but cabbage, Lima's, collards are usually much better. Pics escaped me once again. I must get better with that. I was so very disappointed with my recent experience here. Ive been a fan of Piccadilly for years. Not becauseb they have the best food in the world, but because every now and then I just want a simple down home meal, too the point, hot, fresh and good. Yesterdays visit was everything opposite of that. There was 3 adults in out party and 2 kids. The kids meals were simple, chicken strip, mac and cheese and carrot souffle. The chicken was dry and cold, the mac and cheese was also cool and pretty tasteless and the carrot souflee was pretty good in taste but it was also cool. Others at our table had chopped steak and liver & onions. Both meat items were cold, tough and dry. The sides were bland and cool. No one received hot food. The only plus was that our server was very chipper and happy each time she stopped by the table. Guess I can now officially mark this landmark off of my list when I visit the area. read more

I purchased a cooked whole turkey for Thanksgiving from the Hampton location. I also ordered the cornbread stuffing, carrot soufflé and mac/cheese sides. The sides were small and pricey but overall they tasted pretty good. The turkey is another story...it was dreadful! It was no way that I was going to put that "thing" on my Thanksgiving table. It appeared to be freeze dried and dehydrated and was flavorless. There was no moisture, no liquid, no fluid whatsoever. They sold a yellow dye #45 based "gravy" made from a powder mixture that was also pretty tasteless. At the last minute, I had to go to the store, buy some turkey parts and make my own home made gravy too give flavor and add moisture to the turkey. Only after all of that was it edible. Two lessons learned: Next year make my own damn turkey and the restaurant management does not give a crap! read more
