Tried to give it several chances. The first time I ate there, I got the Italian trio, and it was really good. That was not long after the Nixa location first opened. However, it's been disappointing since then. My most recent order of chicken parmesan was terrible. It was a pickup order and the crust of the chicken was burnt, which in turn made the sauce also taste terrible, and I ended up throwing over half of it away. The time before last, I got the Italian trio again, but it was just a super thick layer of cheese, over the top of very little pasta. Both times, it wasn't worth the cost, as I was expecting a much higher quality of food. read more

Piccolo's is a gem lost in the small town of Nixa,MO. The restaurant has an amazing farmhouse/industrial feel with a warm environment and very friendly staffing . The Italian nacho plate is nothing short of amazing. The taste is so rich it could be considered a dessert. It's my favorite appetizer in the Springfield, MO area. The Alfredo sauce is so bold it's forced me to order only items that are covered in it. Drink specials are also excellent. My stunning wife loves to take advantage of the House wine specials. read more

Me and my girlfriend wanted to try something new and this place caught our eye we went and got a table in minutes the waitress was super nice kept checking on us but not to much the lighting was perfect for a cute little date night place. UPDATE: 4/1/18 EASTER BRUNCH We've all been there. Dressed in our shiny best, sugar-high'd from an early morning hunt for chocolate bunnies, Hallelujahs sung in church, and now we're sufficiently famished to eat that blasted rabbit for lunch! Perish that thought; it's not on the menu. Our celebratory crew of 12 were whisked inside with salutations & directly seated at a prime spot! Obligatory photos were shot by 2 darling servers from both ends of the table because, "Nobody puts baby in the corner!" They hit the bullseye with bottomless MIMOSAS! Pleasantly surprised with ITALIAN NACHOS (gorgeously plated like a vibrant work of art) & huge BALBOA BALLS (kiddos snarfed all 4 down fast)--both perfect shares for large groups! I won't list all our dishes but so many raves to choose: LEMON PEPPER CHICKEN ANGEL HAIR PASTA (brunch special), CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD (flawless), MARGARITA PIZZA WITH EGG OVER EASY (special), SPICY MARY PASTA (olives & Gorgonzola), & il mio preferito--THE REAL VEAL-STUFFED CANNELLONI (Rich & decadent)! The slight disappointment were in the CALAMARI which arrived too odiferous of the sea; infinitesimal issue. The gregarious Italian owner Steve participates in his domain like a maestro conducting an orchestra! And his sharp team certainly know what they are doing! We tried this place tonight. We have known Steve for years. We like D'Arpinos. We should have been here to try this sooner! The menu is good! A full bar with a good wine list. This place is great for Nixa to have a nice place for dinner that is not a chain and great food and service. My wife had salmon and said it was cooked perfectly. The Calamari Missouri style was a great appetizer. The antipasto salad is worth the $2 upgrade I really liked it. My wife wanted to try the corn brûlée side and that is a very solid Wow! I was so impressed by our experience tonight I didn't even wait until I left to start my review. Let me start with Sarah our server. Efficient. Friendly. Fast. She was the perfect balance of friendly and professional. Sarah made excellent recommendations when asked but did not push particular dishes over others We started with with Italian nachos. Great crisp on the wontons with a nice balance of cheese, balsamic and chicken. Crisp sweet tomatoes and banana peppers added flavor. My husband had the chicken stuffed with pepperoni on a bed of fettuccini and Alfredo. He would have enjoyed more spice to the pepperoni but that t was perfect to me as I like less spice. I had the cheese ravioli with half marinara and half Alfredo. Pure heaven. Seriously. So good. Don't mix the sauce. You can. But keep it separate to enjoy the distinctive but equally wonderful flavors. For desert we shared (okay he ate one bite and I finished it) the ooey gooey butter cake with salted Carmel. You must try the CORN BRULEE! At first I was scared to try it since I had never heard of such an item. The side of corn brulee is a mix of hot/sweet. My husband and I usually order this as an extra side to share. The salmon is the best I have ever had. The owner, Steve, is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. You can tell he really cares about his customers and wants you to have an excellent meal. Nixa is very lucky to have this non-chain high quality restaurant located in a shopping strip behind Walmart. We drive from Springfield quite often for lunch or dinner to this awesome place. read more

My favorite spot in Nixa! Their lasagna is amazing- I always take some home as a leftover because it's so good the next day. The service is good and they always engage my kids. Wine list is good too! We visited Sunday about 5pm. We actually thought they were closed because of the lack of cars on the lot. We were happy they were not and entered to become the third table there. We ordered an appetizer of spinach dip with bread. It was yummy, and we enjoyed it. However, I would not call it exceptional. As we were Waiting for our entrees the restaurant began to fill up. I was happy for them to see this but coming so fast it seemed to overwhelm our server. Our meals were delivered by another employee. I am not sure if this is customary (which is fine if t is) or if this was because our server had gotten so busy (which is also fine because the important part is it arrived from the kitchen hot. I made the point about the busy because it may be the primary reason for them earning a mere four stars and not five. I have to drink a lot while I eat, and unfortunately my drink was completely empty more than it was not. So much so I actually had to stop eating. That was fine though because it gave us a chance to take home some leftovers that turned out to be even better the next day (I am speaking of the cheese tortellini) it's good fresh but was even better the next day. So would I recommend this place to anyone, yes I would. read more

Very disappointed. They try to look and act like a high-end Italian resaurant but we weren't impressed. The anti-pasta salad did not have what I would have expected - no olives, no onion, and just a few salami slices around the edge. A lot of money for a bowl of lettuce although the parmesan cheese and and dressing were good. The Jalapeno Corn Burlee Rigatoni was bland, no spice, the taste was just creamed corn with two (2) small bits of sausage in it. We woun't be back. read more

I was in Nixa visiting family who told me we *HAD* to go to Piccolo because it was "hands down" the best Italian within a 200 mile radius. That's quite the claim, right? As someone from St. Louis -- and who is used to eating on The Hill -- admittedly, I was skeptical to give this little stripmall place a try, despite all the rave reviews. Skeptic no more. Wow, wow, WOW. First of all, the atmosphere was unexpected...but in a refreshing way? I'm used to those dark Italian hole in the walls with family portraits everywhere (you know the ones!), but Piccolo's decor felt airy, modern, and dare I even say "hip"? Well done. Our server was incredibly friendly, helpful, and prompt. She truly seemed like she enjoyed working there, and that tells me a lot about a restaurant. In fact, I observed most all the employees working hard, but with genuine smiles. Again... refreshing. And now, let's get to the food. THE FOOD! Where do I even begin. We started with mozzarella meatballs and goat cheese pepperdews, both of which were to die for. The meatballs especially were some of the most tender I've ever come across. For my entree, I ordered the Valentine pasta dish, and the alfredo cream sauce had a wonderful flavor. The rest of my family ordered baked cheese tortellini (HIGHLY recommend the "blush" sauce, and add bacon for an extra indulgent treat!) and veggie pizza. I was fortunate to be able to try a bit of everything, and was simply blown away by how delicious everything was. I was told their pizza has won awards and it was quickly apparent as to why. We finished things off with a homemade cannoli, and I have to say, I've never had a better Italian treat. Apparently I've been eating bad cannolis all my life because this took my expectations to a whole new level. The owner came by and introduced himself, which made a special evening that much more special. We enjoyed hearing how his grandparents immigrated from various parts of Italy and how he tries to carry on their traditions at Piccolo. So here I thought I was spoiled by The Hill... now I know that Nixa is spoiled by Piccolo! Looks like I'll be making the drive to visit family more often...! read more

This was my husband and I's first time eating here. The service was excellent from all the staff we encountered. The food was also delicious and the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food and service that you get. This Italian restaurant is amazing and I will return again and again. My husband and I went for a lunch date and we were impressed with the atmosphere, our waitress, the prices, and especially the food. We ordered the cheese board appetizer which our waitress paired with an excellent glass of wine for my husband. It came with 3 different cheeses they change out weekly, crackers, and ours came with goat cheese stuffed peppers. Our entrees were fantastic. My husband had the Philly Cheese steak and I had the baked cheese tortellini with blush sauce (a perfect blend of their signature marinara and Alfredo). We even splurged on dessert which was a chocolate gooey cheesecake. After we left we were stuffed and completely pleased with our experience. As a born and raised Springfieldian, I was a staunch devotee of D'Arpino's on South National Ave. I moved away from Missouri 4 years ago, and was sad to hear that D'Arpino's closed its doors at the beginning of 2018. With my family still remaining in the area, I had to cross my favorite Italian place off the list of must visit eats on my trips back home. Enter today, my family introduced me to Piccolo in Nixa, which is owned by the son of the original D'Arpino's. Excited by the potential here, once we arrived and I perused the menu, I was elated. All of the staple dishes from D'Arpino's have been carried over to Piccolo, most importantly, the tortellini. I've had dreams about the tortellini. If I were ever on death row, the tortellini would be my last meal. The new additions that are original to Piccolo are also fantastic. Every plate served at our table was great. In my humble opinion, do this: Cheese tortellini, Alfredo sauce, baked, add grilled chicken. You're welcome. Oh, and get the goat cheese and bacon stuffed peppadew appetizer. Great service. Great wine selection. Fantastic food. This one is a keeper, and every single calorie consumed is well worth it. read more
