We've been coming here for years. The food is tasty and of high quality. But something has happened twice now in the past 2 months. We occasionally order a pizza for pickup. Today - a Friday - my phone call ended at 12 minutes past the hour. They told me it would be ready in 25 minutes. I do not mind waiting and like to get there early so that I can pay and then leave as soon as my pie is ready. I arrived at the restaurant 8 minutes later (I checked the time on my phone) and my pie was already done and sitting on top of the oven. Having worked in pizza shops for many years as a youth, I know that a minimum time for any pizza is 12 minutes with most taking 15 minutes. I expressed my incredulity that a pie I had ordered 8 minutes earlier could possibly be ready and sitting on the oven so soon. The cashier said it was a miracle. Well it was no miracle. The pie was lukewarm and old, and probably reheated. I know that Friday nights can be very busy at this place, but I do not mind waiting for a fresh pie. It seems now I will have to order after I get there which will make me order less often. Like I said this has happened at least twice now. The first time, I just chalked it up to a bad experience, but now it seems like bad management. read more

I would not even give this place 1 star, but I guess Yelp makes it mandatory to select a rating. We have been to the Piccolo Trattoria in Pennington, NJ, which I have to say is GREAT! However, it is a little further from where we live, so instead we decided to try the branch in Newtown, PA. What a HUGE MISTAKE! We were welcoming home a relative who lives out of state, so we had a large party of 20. We arrived early and were terribly disappointed with the size of the restaurant, it was VERY small so we knew we were going to be crowded. They put two large tables next to each other, each table seating 10 people. It was half booth on one side and chairs on the other side, which was next to the aisle. It was so crowded and busy in the restaurant that our family members who were seated on that side of the table said they felt like they were eating on the highway! It was utterly ridiculous! Other than that, the wiat staff was HORRIBLE! I mean VERY HORRIBLE!!!!!! We will never go back to that branch just because of the terrible service. The food is delicious, I really enjoyed it, but it was hard to fully have a good time, because it was so crowded and the waiters we had were so unattentive, it was unbearable! It took over 45 minutes for someone to come to our table to fill our water glasses, let alone take a drink order.The food took forever to arrive at our tables and the kids meals were last to come out! That is simply un-heard of! Who in their right mind brings out the kids meals last?!?!! I was extremely annoyed and the waitress gave me a dumb smile and said "I don't know where the chickin fingers are? I just checked on them." I was at my wits end and told my family to make sure this was reflected in the tip. Thankfully, although our party was large, they did not add on the gratuity, but let tell you, if they had, I would have fought it! We never ever tip lower than 20%, but we made an exception here, we had to! We had to pay part in cash and the rest of 2 different credit cards. Again, the waitress looked at us like we were crazy... as if that had never been asked of before. On our way out of the restaurant, she had the NERVE to call us to the front desk and question us if we had left enough money!!!! We were furious! How dare she?!!?? Again, we will never go back there, at least not with a large party. If they could not accomodate us, which they clearly COULD NOT, then they should have suggested we come for lunch or another day! It is a shame really, because I really do love the food... I guess we will just have to make the trip to Pennington, NJ to that branch, but it will be worth it. NO for NEWTOWN! read more

We have ordered pizza and salad for many years, but last night will be the last time. We have always loved their Insalata Speciale Di Piccolo - a chopped salad with meats and cheeses. It was large enough that we had leftovers for lunch the next day. Not last night - $9.00 for a much smaller salad with a few pieces of chopped ham. Just barely enough for 2 of us with the pizza. Which was also below par - practically burned on the bottom.$25.00 for a small salad and a half sausage pizza - not again! Oh, and they stopped putting coupons on the box also. Just had dinner there with the family and it was excellent. In addition to the extensive standard menu they had 3 appetizer specials and 8 dinner specials. My son has food allergies and they actually have gluten-free pasta. It is also BYOB. They were very busy and I would have given them 5 stars but service was a bit slow. The food is decent at best but the service is consistantly lousy. There's nothing like placing your take-out order over the phone, getting there in 20 minutes when they say your food is going to be ready and then standing in the lobby another 20 minutes while they ignore you. Piccolo has been our go to place for pizza and sandwiches for takeout and delicious meals since they opened. That's why my husband and sons called on Piccolo to cater a surprise birthday party for me at our home. As expected, everything was delicious, and people kept asking where the food was from. It was delivered on time and the people who brought the food did all of the setting up and made sure my husband was happy with everything. The people at the restaurant and the people who delivered to our home were always nice and a pleasure to deal with. Chicken parmigiana, chicken piccata, penne vodka and baked ziti, grilled vegetable paninis, buffalo wings, Brooklyn pie, margherita pizza and plain pizza, salad, roll and garlic knots. We will definitely continue to go to Piccolo and use them again for any of our catering needs! read more

While the food here was really good the service was horrendous and no one seemed to care. I had a coupon for a discount that was not reflected in the check and had to find a manager to get it applied. The waitress disappeared for long periods of time and appetizers were brought out after the main course with no apologies. They have good food but could care less about your dining experience. Yipes. I really want to like this place for dinner. After all,good pizza, good service, good food, BYOB, entertainment by a clarinet /bass duo, but I think they believe that customers will come and wait 45 minutes after reservation time, in a very hot, tiny waiting area and by overbooking,all will be fine for them. Well it isn't, as there are other places in town. I gave no problem with a 15 minute wait, but beyond that means overbooking, and disrespect. Other restaurants do 30-45 minutes segments, ok. I can accept that. To make matters worse, the place is very very warm and without a door opened even the old of winter isn't good enough to cool off place. After a 45 minute wait,a friend of the owner took our table for 4 and we were placed in a small booth where groups of 2 were seated. After realizing that we waited 45 minutes for a table for four, being seated on comfortably at a Booth meant for two, we got up and left and went to dolce carini. Although we had to pay for wine, we were comfortable and entertained by piano and served great food by A very hospitable server. A great option after a very frustrating experience. read more

At Doylestown tonight we waited almost 30 minutes just sat down at the bar and got drinks when our table was ready. Greg our waiter from Newtown (because he told us) after sweating on us told us the specials and walked away. He visited many tables getting drinks and telling them the specials. He even delivered a few plates of food. Three other tables that I could see got water and bread....we never got that. They also gave their orders. Our last straw is when he started taking the order of the four top sitting next to us who sat almost a full 10minutes after us. We watched him run around. We know it was a busy night but to ignore us and have three tables who sat after us (four tops at that)give their orders.. you don't get a good review from me or my money. Attention to detail, customer service, and a can-do attitude highlighted the performance of the Piccolo team. To top it all off the food was absolutely amazing! Planned a Communion party for 25. Ali made it very easy to plan. It was nice that we were able to drop off beer and wine the day before, and they had it all set up for us the day of the party. I was able to bring a cake, that they served for no additional cost. They also had the option to get the cake directly from them. Tara was our waitress, along with another gentleman. Disappointment! I had to try the Brooklyn pie after seeing the pics on yelp. It was OK at best. Good ingredients with mediocre execution. The guy at the cash register had ZERO personality and the woman that took the order seemed disinterested. The guy acted like he was doing me a favor by letting me pay for their food. Maybe the two got in an argument that night which would explain the poor attitudes so I may give it one more try one day, but until then this place gets 1 star...3 stars for the pizza and minus 2 for the service. When out in the burbs I don't expect the best food but expect the service to be polite and friendly especially when you are putting out food that is ALMOST on par with the local competition. read more

MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO STEP IT UP. Ordered take-out. When i arrived, there was no one at the take-out counter. I called out and one of the pizza makers said someone will be there shortly. It took awhile, but finally when the take-out guy came out, another customer behind me pushed ahead and complained that he did not order this entree - he was handing back a take-out styrofoam. The take-out guy shrugged and said "ok" and took it back. Well, turns out that THAT was one of my entrees. No apologies, he just included it with the rest of my order. I asked him to read back the order to me - to avoid any mistakes. The order was correct and I paid for it. 15 minutes later - the time it took me to get home - the second entree was WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ordered Founder Francese, and instead got some stuffed shrimp! My husband is allergic to shellfish! It was too late to have to turn around, return it and go back home. We threw it out. We walked in and noticed it was busy even on a Sunday the pizza looked great in the window as we walked by to get our seat. The food was excellent, service below par, but food trumps in my opinion so i'd definitely go back. We had the best margarita pizza we've ever had, and they had a gluten free crust option, which again was the best gluten free crust we've ever had. My crab stuffed mushroom and my wife's balsamic grilled vegetables were also excellent. Our waiter was very nice but not well trained, its a BYOB, he opened and poured my beer, opened the wine, didn't pour my wife's wine and failed to bring an ice bucket, another waiter brought an ice bucket as soon as i asked. My wife's appetizer, which is served cold, was brought to the table well before my hot appetizer, I hate that and i think reflects poor training, but with great food and reasonable prices I wouldn't let minor irritations stop me from going back. read more

I have recently ordered take out against my better judgement at piccolo in Newtown PA. I ordered a turkey club and upon opening the club I noticed the bread not toasted and upon picking the club up the bread to be soggy. The management there is poor, the owner is incapable of hearing negative reviews and gets angry at customer for bringing poor quality to his attention. I was very disappointed with Piccolo. I tried it when it first opened and was not particularly impressed. I tried it again last night with my family, only to be disappointed again. Our server was very nice but the food was at best mediocre. The veal, in particular, was tough (being "tenderized" with a mallet). Additionally, I tried to use a coupon published in the NewtownPatch offering 1/2 price appetizers Monday-Friday, only to discover that management would only apply it to one of the two ordered. read more
