We recently held my mother's 85th birthday celebration at the Pennington location. I couldn't be happier with the food and service. This is a very nice place, moderate sized dining room plus patio seating. Menu is uniformly good. Prices are moderate. I especially like artichoke fantasia and fried artichoke as starters. Chicken parm and shrimp parm very nice. My wife likes the lobster cakes. She had the chicken fico (with figs) twice - first time was excellent but second time around the ingredients were not fresh and she was disappointed. Good desserts. BYOB. Ordered a mass amount of food from here Sunday night for the game and it wasn't so bad! We got a huge order of the wings which were fairly crispy with flavor but the cheese fries not so good. Could definitely be crispier and the cheese seemed stale. We got a pie of the buffalo chicken and the old fashioned brooklyn. The brooklyn pie was great! I loved the flavors and the thinness of the crust. My only advice would be to have the to go orders ready for the customer. I stayed home and all toasty while all the men went to go pick up the food and even though they got there to pick it up 30 minutes after I called they still waited an additional 20 minutes. Don't say it'll be ready in 30 when you know it won't. Especially on an unsafe day with all the snow, don't make people drive when they don't need to yet. read more

This review for the Pizza side of the restaurant. I've been here twice during lunch hours both times on weekdays. The most recent visit was exactly at noon, the previous visit was closer to 2pm. The difference in volume the second time around made sense of the somewhat peculiar order fulfillment process. First let me start by saying it is easy to come in and be confused and overwhelmed. When you walk to the line you are prompted to place your order before fully having the opportunity to check out the display case of the numerous pizza offerings. On my first visit I was overwhelmed but the one thing that stood out were the amazingly huge garlic knots, I knew I had to have them... I also went with Chicken and broccoli Alfredo pizza. The second time I went I added a chicken caesar salad pizza to my order.. Great decision. I didn't think I was going to like that croutons on the pizza, but it was great, they weren't hard, they blended perfectly. So when you order by the slice, they put it on a circular tray, they then take orders until they tray is filled and pop them all in the oven. So essentially on a 2pm day it may take longer for you to get your slice than on a 12pm day when the line is moving quickly and everyone is ordering promptly. When the tray is done, they don't necessarily know who ordered what so you have to claim your pizza prior to them boxing it. Both times I've been the slices are on point, heated perfectly through. I mean delicious perfect topping to sauce to dough ratio. The garlic knots... they steal the show.. they are nice and big, perfectly garlicky.. homemade chunky sauce... They take a little longer than the pizza to heat so I'm there through a few orders seeing what's good coming across the counter (which is everything) I don't think I've come across not one pie I wouldn't try. They are a little pricier than the average pizza place but it is a different caliber of pizza, you could tell the freshness in the ingredients, nothing looks like it's been sitting for hours even at a 2pm visit. Lettuce is crisp on the pizza I'm talking good stuff. I would definitely come back to check out the sit down side... especially if I can get garlic knots in lieu or the bread. 4.5 stars! read more

Solid solid food... solid service... and seemingly endless portions. The food is so good, even though you squeaked at the notion of eating it all... you somehow manage... and then regret it, not because it was bad, but because now you have no room for desert... and their deserts are good too. The food is decent and reasonably priced. Notable exceptions are the large calzone and family-sized stromboli, which are very good, huge, and cheap (each can easily feed 3-5 people). My wife and I stopped going here for anything but takeout because of the consistently slow, poor, and rude staff. We still aren't spared poor service; the guy who runs the takeout counter is ALWAYS in a bad mood. Ok, I used to drive a bread truck in Brooklyn so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to pizza. Now I drive in Jersey and I was passing by this place when I felt a dump brewing. Must have been the 6 cups of coffee I poured down my grill so I wouldn't run off the road. So listen, this place is fantastic. The Brooklyn Pie is the closest to NY I've ever tasted. I've tried some other local joints and the Brooklyn pie was a freakin' joke. I took a friend to one of these other pizza joints and when they served the Brooklyn my boy Paulie threw it on the floor. Always hit or miss- slices are dry when you go in and order individual slices especially any slices with chicken or pasta on them kinda ridiculous how dry they are for $4 a slice. Ordered delivery tonight and my order came with no meatballs on my pasta and one of the mozz sticks had no cheese in it. I'd recommend it for a quick slice but not a meal. read more

Was here for a business lunch on a busy Thursday afternoon. The noise level was quite high, making conversation difficult, until the crowd thinned out. I felt a little cramped as well to the tables next to us. The food was good. I started with the pasta fagoli which was average. Soup should have been served hotter. I had a chicken entree. Only 1 piece of chicken, on a bed of ziti which were cooked perfectly. I tried a fellow diner's pizza which was not tasty...too much sauce, wilted basil, with a minimum of poor quality fresh mozzarella. The crust was just ok. The service was good, although it took a little too long for the entrees to come out.....it was peak however. All in all, it's a decent place, but is a chain, albeit a good one . My family went here for a quick meal before going to The College of New Jersey. We were quickly seated soon got served. As we waited for our food (which was a little long) there was live music playing. We decided to sit outside and there was a man playing the piano and a large fountain flowing. I came in looking to enjoy a nice solitary lunch. Sometimes when your surrounded by craziness at work, you just need a nice quiet lunch. I walked into this restaurant that seemed to be brimming with business lunches and the occasional elderly mother daughter duos. At least 4 employees must have asked if I was with someone or was someone enjoying me. My little confidence of enjoying solitude was suddenly hampered by this sudden need for having a person around me. I ordered the lunch pasta ravioli milano. First came the bread which is a bit too chewy for my taste but I was too hungry to care. Then the salad which wasn't good! The lettuce was wilted and the dressing was way too sweet then usual balsamic vinaigrette. To my surprise, the ravioli really triumphed all. The sauce was robust, rich and the right amount of creaminess. The raviolis were pillow soft and shrimp was just perfect. Just had mother's day brunch here and it was yummy! We tried most items between the 3 of us (eggs Benedict, bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, French toast, blintzes, home fries, penne vodka, Lobster ravioli, assorted fruits and veggies, donuts, cannoli, so many cakes). We didn't have any of the fish, chicken, beef, or ham dishes. No particular reason, just went for the other stuff. Almost everything was great. The pancakes, French toast and waffles, while delicious, were cold and didn't feel super fresh. Everything else was perfect. First and foremost I have to give them 5 stars for their flexibility. I was so far off our schedule, got held up at a previous event and three of our guests did not get the notice. The manager - owner was very gracious holding our reservation 40 minutes late, a Saturday evening no less and still sat our early arrivals. Piccolo's was the perfect place for casual BYOB Italian fair; with three ample seating areas, one outdoor patio and two indoor; a pizzeria and the family dinning area. Pricing was equal if not better to other local establishments but I think they win out with location, atmosphere and food selection. Service was welcoming and attentive but at times I felt pressured or rushed, however they were busy and we were "really" late...so that is on us. As for food, everyone enjoyed their dishes with the exception of one side plate of angle hair (or slightly thicker) was over cooked. I was also disappointed they didn't offer a Caesar salad. Those aside we couldn't be more pleased with taste and portions. Piccolo's Trattoria, hands down a winner, we will be back! read more

Just left Piccolo. I have had their food (as takeout), salads and light apps, never really looked at the full menu. My husband has always insisted I give them a try. They are BYOB, so you know. On our way home tonight, my husband suggested we stop and grab a table. We did. Our son joined us. We grabbed a Pinot from the Wine Shop a few doors down. The food is delicious!We ordered Mozzarella in Cazzaro, Stuffed Portabello with Crabmeat as apps. For dinner: Mozzarella Pizza, Papperdelle Vienna (Chicken/Sun-Dried Tomatoes in Aurora Sauce) and The special, Lobster Ravioli with chunks of Lobster, Crab and Asparagus. You will enjoy the variety on the menu. Grab to go, dine in. This is definitely a place to add to your frequent casual dining list. I am a bonafide foodie. And a home cook. Everything is fresh and served hot! You can identify the ingredients. Large portions,so we have food for lunch tomorrow! For dessert, we brought home chocolate cake and red velvet cake! Fri I decided to try ,because the one in Bucks County was good according to my wife. Well I got the chip parm,assuming I won't like it,but it is food. Surprisingly, the first delicious marinara I've had in nj in 5years, real breaded and fried chicken breast,very good mozzarella, so now I would order anything on the menu, and would have high hopes for what ever I order. If you're familiar with New Haven, CT and Wooster street, then you know I'm not handing out compliments for nothing! We have friends who live in the neighborhood and they love going there, so we said we'd give it a try & went with them about 2 years ago. Since then, we've gone there with them several times! All the food is excellent in taste & quality; the service is superb! Each server we've had is friendly, knowledgeable, very attentive & experienced ~ very professional. My absolute favorite appetizer is their Artichoke Fantasy. Initially, 4 were served on the plate, which was perfect for a party of 4; then they reduced it to 3; I asked the server about it and he said that's what they serve now. As we left, I mentioned it to the manager, but he brushed it off. I would rather than increased the cost a little & return to serving 4 on a plate. The ambience and decor is quite nice & the seats are comfortable. Some people come dressed up & others casual but not sloppy. It is expensive, I assume partly because they serve high quality food. If you order one of the specials the server tells you about, you may want to ask what the cost is because it's usually much higher than any other menu item. It's BYOB ~ just a few doors away is a store where you can pick up a cold bottle of wine. In the nice weather, they have tables outside in a fenced off dining area ~ which is a nice change! When you leave, there is a large clear bowl of wrapped chocolate covered mints ~ be sure to take one or two on your way out... mmm. Piccolo's is located in the shopping mall at the opposite end from Stop & Shop, so the parking is in a public lot, but you are always able to park fairly close to the door. Food here is delicious!! If the review was based on food i would give the place five stars. The regular staff is incredibly nice but it's the managers/owners (not sure which) that need some training in how to treat customers. The bald man whose there a lot really knows how to make you feel like a disgusting human being just for coming in. The place is always busy and they seem to hate that for some odd reason as it their business doesn't get by because of customers. If you take too long to order they'll roll their eyes or tell you to speed it up by rotating those metal tongues in front of your face. I've seen many staffers get yelled at in front of customers by the managers/owners. Completely unprofessional environment. Plenty of good pizza places around. Go elsewhere. read more

I come here for lunch all the time as it is one of my favorite pizza places. There's both a pizza counter section and a wait service section for the restaurant but I usually just go straight to the pizza counter. They offer a pretty wide selection of pizza by the slice that you wouldn't be able to find at most pizza places. Some of the pizza I've had there that I would recommend trying are the penne pasta, brocolli rabe and sausage, and chicken francaise. However I'm a huge fan of their Brooklyn Pizza; It is by far my favorite and I highly recommend it. read more

Decided on Piccolo Trattoria on a Friday night with my husband and daughter. We had been once before for a party and remember it being good. We were a bit disappointed with our meal on this occasion. I chose the sausage and broccoli rabe and it was just average. My husband ordered whole wheat penne pasta with sausage and meatballs in a fra diablo sauce and it was so spicy he couldn't taste anything else. My daughter enjoyed her house salad with grilled chicken. The staff was pleasant and attentive and the atmosphere is pleasant. Looks like it gets a lot of takeout traffic and it's nice they separated the pizza part from the restaurant. Very pedestrian food. I had good service while ordering carry out but they did not include any utensils for an order that included entre, soup and side. Got to hotel with no way to eat it so had to spend 10 minutes hunting down silverware. How does that happen with a carryout?? We held our rehearsal dinner here in May 2018 for approximately 35 people or so and everything was great! It was especially nice that we could all fit perfectly in their private room, sectioned off from the rest of the restaurant. All the food turned out delicious and was very reasonably priced compared to quotes we had gotten from other restaurants. We ended up going with the cheapest package, but even that was more than enough food, including salad, pasta course, entree, and dessert. The staff was all so nice and helpful, including the catering coordinator Tara. They were kind enough to box up leftovers for us and were very flexible with the timing of everything and didn't rush us out, basically telling us that we had the room for the evening. Piccolo had no issues either with us bringing some of our own desserts in addition to what they provided. Don't forget BYOB too!
