Awful. Some of the worst Sicilian and plain regular slices of pizza I've eaten. Not only did the sauce taste like sugar was the main ingredient but it was way undercooked. Went here to eat with my family. I frequently get a slice or sub here foru lunch at the take out side during the work week, which are always great. The restaurant side is a gem. The service was excellent and the food was even better. My 4 year old said it was "the best food ever". Great food with handpicked ingredients. If you enjoy Italian food, this is a great choice. Had an amazing experience at piccolos In Pennington. First time out in the east coast from California in literally 40 years. The hotel I was staying at recommenced Piccolo's Trattorias and they did not disappoint! Besides one of the cleanest restaurant I've been in, the pizza was unbelievably delicious! I had the combination pizza and literally ate half of it by myself. They serve with fresh Parmesan cheese on the side along fresh garlic salt if needed. This place has average Italian food and perhaps the WORST service of any place I've ever been. This applies to both the restaurant and the pizza/takeout side. It has been that way since it opened. Add on the rudeness and stupidity of the staff and you've got an experience that will give you heartburn after eating. STAY AWAY so they will get the message and either improve or close. read more

Excellent Italian food. After Italian in NYC last weekend, I took two out of towners to Piccolo's last night. Piccolos did not disappoint. And unlike the manhattan bistro we could actually talk to each other without yelling! The wait staff is excellent, the restaurant is clean and the ambiance is nice. The food was delicious. We had the special Bronzini with shrimp and asparagus. Excellent, but $32 seems a little high, which is the only reason it did not get five stars. We also had mussels marinara $15 and veal saltobucca (ok, so spelling is not correct) $20. Both were also excellent and fairly priced. We will certainly return and expect to become regulars here. read more

My wife and I were back in town with our kids. We've been gone from the area for over 20 years, but we still know what good pizza is, and Fred and his team fit the bill. What was even more important than how good the pizza tasted, was the fact that we got into town much later than anticipated, and by the time we dropped off everything in our hotel room, most every food place was closed, except for fast food. We found Piccolo Trattoria at 10pm, just as they were wrapping things up for the night. But, Fred opened the door and welcomed us in, as all we wanted was a takeout pizza. We offered to leave, but Fred and his team took very good care of us and had us leaving with a smile, and soon thereafter, full bellies. We are in NJ for only a few days, but will try and make it back before we leave. For those of you who live in the area and have not tried them yet, do so...you won't be dissapointed! Had a Spinsaver coupon for Piccolo Trattorio in Newtown so I took the whole family there for a quiet Friday late lunch the day after Christmas. The restaurant had only a few patrons. When it came time to use my spinsaver coupon, the server pointed out the fine print that states it's only good for a Sunday-Thursday. I didn't see that on the Spinsaver before I bought or I wouldn't have purchased it-shame on me. But when I spoke to the manager to attempt to work things out, the only thing he would do was give me face value for the "next time" I eat in. Since there was nothing they were able to do, I certainly will not come in a "next time". Seems that if you're doing extra marketing to bring in extra business, they could've worked with us to make us happy "this time". read more

Good variety of pizza, but on multiple occasions I've been served severely undercooked slices that I can't even eat because the dough is almost raw. We have been to, and had excellent meals at this location a number of times. Unfortunately, tonight's visit was not one of them. To start, we had a most inattentive waiter, who could not be found to provide even minimal service. To make matters worse, our table was situated in the midst of fruit-fly swarm, making a potentially good dinner most unappetizing. When told about our fruit-fly problem, our waiter was most unhelpful and only wanted to get away. I asked for the manager to come over, and all he could manage was a most disingenuous offer of "what can I do to make this right", as if I was trying to hit him up for something free. Went here 2 or 3 times and dined in. Food was okay. Atmosphere was stuffy (for a strip mall) and not very friendly. We returned because it was fairly close and I liked the food back when I went to TCNJ. The other night we ordered take-out. I couldn't bite my chicken sandwich because it was tough. I tried the other half and had same issue. I opened up the sandwich and realized the chicken was raw, which is why I couldn't chew it. It was totally pink. Disgusted. We called and let them know. We drove 15 minutes to go back to restaurant (on Xmas Eve), and the man behind the counter asked what was wrong- when we said chicken was raw, he offered no apology at all. We were giving them the benefit of the doubt, but after going back and getting no apology or even acknowledging that serving raw chicken is unacceptable, we will never go back. How do you not apologize for failing to serve edible food, especially after someone has to drive back to your restaurant? Foolish. read more

Went to the restaurant side and the very large menu item listing was a red flag that this would be a mediocre dining experience. The fact that their pizzaria is on one side of the wall and their restaurant is on the other is another red flag. There is no classically trained chef on the restaurant side. Overall the service was fine and the food mediocre - exactly what I expected. Go there with mediocre expectations and you'll be just fine. Had the shrimp parm and ordered flounder Francese but got tilapia Francese instead. Shrimp parm was much better than the Francese. Candles would be a nice touch vs the LED lights attached to the umbrella poles in the outside dining area. The live outdoor mellow music was also a nice touch. read more

Our host, Moe, was very attentive to our dining experience and our waiter, Marco, took care of all our culinary requests. Food was fantastic, delicious and served right when we needed it. What can I say about that sun dried tomato oil that you dip the bread in, OMG! Can help but eat a whole basket of fresh baked bread with it. I had the opportunity to try a variety of dishes on piccolo's menu, including the arrancini, calamari, long stemmed artichoke, spring mix salad, one of the Brooklyn style pizzas and two of the gourmet pizzas, plus the carbonara, spaghetti and gnocchi. On top of all that I had the lava cake and the tiramisu. I was stuffed full but couldn't help but try everything available because it was all SO. GOOD. It's hard to beat a good byo Italian restaurant when it comes to large gatherings, but it's even better when you know your service will be awesome too. Highly recommend! read more

We love going here for a slice or dining in. The food is always really tasty. I highly recommend the Brooklyn pie, it's like a margarita only with a sweeter sauce. I find it delightful. Not only is today mother's day but it's also my mom's birthday. I asked her where she wanted to go for dinner. She picked this establishment . I made reservations for 6pm. We were there early and got seated in the pizza portion of the restaurant near the wait staff station. My view was of a bunch of junk that was folded up and put by the front door. Cool. so the menu was a special mother's day menu. It of course didn't have the ONE thing my mom wanted! We asked our waitress if they were still doing the normal menu she said she would check and she NEVER came back! Some other guy showed up instead and told us it's only the set menu. The prices were ridiculously inflated on the Mother's day menu! It was $22 dollars for Vodka rigatoni! None of the meals came with soup or salad. I ordered a garden salad with a crab cake on top. It cost 15 dollars and was the size of the side salad you get with a regular meal. Oh and i flipped over my crab cake and the other side was totally burnt! Our food took an hour to get to us and we barely saw our waiter. It took forever to get a drink and bread refill. My mom ordered the steak and it was supposed to be topped with mushrooms. They came out like 10 minutes later in a dish on the side. She was almost done eating her food. It was an over priced terrible experience and I will NOT go back there. Neither should you. It ruined not just my mom's mother's day but also her birthday. read more

Pizza at Piccolos is great in every way, and they also serve salads and sandwiches. The place is usually packed during dinner. It's our favorite Friday night go to place. My favorites are garlic knots, bbq pizza, and chicken parmasian pizza. It's kind of hard to explain because it's so good, but if you go for a meal, eat their pizza, and you'll know what I mean. Their service is also very good. Tonight we ate pizza there, and my Mom accidentally threw away my retainer. We found out 10 minuets later and rushed back to Piccolos. Mo was so helpful. He took the time to put gloves on and took the trash bag to the back of the restaurant. Finally, he picked my retainer out of the trash can for me! Been to Piccolo's a handful of times since I began working in the area. I've come for dinner with friends, family, co workers...I'd dine with strangers. Get my point?? BYOB - A great bonus to the experience. (A liquor store is located next door!) Food- Very dependable, I know I'm going to have a delicious italian meal every time. Tastes like it's homemade every time. The gnocchi float off of your plate :) Atmosphere- I only dine from late spring to early fall so I can dine outside. The outside dining is very relaxing and comfortable. The inside set-up is very tight squeezed. I don't feel as if I can have a private conversation. This is why I didn't give 5 stars. Staff- The wait staff is a 50/50 chance. There are some waiters who are so cordial and inviting and a few of them are so so grumpy. I just try to ignore it because the food is so good. This is another reason why I did not give 5 stars. Bathrooms - (I always rate as they are a direct link to the cleanliness of the overall location.) Very clean and nicely decorated. read more

This is a perfectly acceptable Italian restaurant with a wide variety of menu options. The food is fine and you can expect to always get food that is fine. I particularly enjoy the pappardella montrachet. The specials range more into exceptional - but they are also priced as exceptional. (The specials generally revolve around seafood.) The dining room is spacious and well kept; sometimes a bit noisy. Service is generally friendly and efficient. This is a BYOB. The pizza parlor is generally pretty busy and we have had both good and bad luck with pies to go. We have decided Friday night is NOT the night to order out pizza, but Saturday has been fine. Not sure if that is a staff or volume issue, but this is our observation. read more
