Everyone in there is always super nice! Definitely not the best sandwich I've ever had but they always get the job done.

Disappointed! Decidedly average, at best: We've heard nothing but rave reviews of this tiny, original sandwich shop, so while working a booth at Catapalooza today, we thought it the perfect place to grab a couple sandwiches. My hubby got the Italian (half size), & I had the chicken curry salad (half size). He also ordered a Mountain Dew, & it only came in one size...$21+. His Italian sandwich was an embarrassment--Virtually all bread roll, with a lot of lettuce, & very little meat & cheese tucked away inside all that bread! The bread was not the greatest, either--a bit crusty, chewy, & dry...it was fresh, but not to our taste for a great sandwich experience. My chicken curry salad sandwich was good, but it seemed that the bread roll was way too big for the contents...really sorry we had this experience, because we were expecting the legendary "stuffed" sandwiches we'd heard about: Evidently, those no longer exist! Sorry, but we won't be back, as much as we'd love to support this original local location. We're going to stick with Jersey Mike's & Subway! read more

To the woman working the counter on Saturday at around noon.. you're the fave of the business.. your job is to take orders, accept money, give change or a receipt. And all of that with a smile or providing some feeling of appreciating someone gave you business. I ordered a few sandwiches and was met with a weird angry vibe from this woman. I couldn't wait to get out of there. When she handed me my order it was given to me with force. So weird as I wasn't even putting my asshole hat on this day. On top of it the orders were wrong. This is the second time I've had this overall experience here.. not coming back when I'm in town. If you're a classic sub person, I recommend just heading to Jersey Mike's even though I'm an "eat local" type of guy. The food doesn't warrant the bad vibes. read more

After driving by a few times, my kids HAD to visit "the place with the igloo.." they're a little short on indoor seating so they wisely made use of their outdoor space and placed a few tables and chairs outside and surrounded them with an awesome igloo. It's even lit up (green, no less) at dark! We grabbed three sandwiches to go, fountain drinks, cookies and of course 3-4 pickles from the (self-serve) pickle barrel in the corner. Girls waited for their sandwiches seated on a bench made from old skis and snowboards and declared it "their new favorite place." Sandwiches were delicious, I swear my full-size chicken + salsa sandwich weighed at least 2 lbs! I'm hearing I should have tried the cheese steak, so I'll be back for that soon! Great little hole in the wall type sandwich shop, nice staff and quick. I enjoy subs, sandwiches, sandos, grinders or hoagies whatever you wanna call them! They did a good job here nothing infinitely amazing but it was not boring either! I would go back again. read more

We were driving through Bozeman and at the recommendation of a friend, we stopped in. I was a great place to get sandwiches. It is a little hole in the wall type place right across the street from the University. The menu was great, the food was tasty. The service was nice and it was clean and easy to get an order. This has always been my fav place to get a sammich, and have a standing order for any of my family passing thru Bozeman to get me one.. But I was disappointed on Sunday.. We ordered over the phone.. 7 full sammies, and a salad.. TO PICK UP.. My friends from Kalispell had never had one and needed to get the full experience.. there was no one in the shop as the 7 of us walked in.. we were all donning our masks as we entered. The first thing out of the young lady's mouth was "you have to have masks on to come in here." All of us were either putting one on or already had it on... she then proceeded to say it again.. Not HI, not welcome to Picklebarrel.. -You have to have masks on.. OK MASK NAZI.. got it.. Then I pick up the sammies and she has the nerve to tell me, we add a 15% gratuity to orders over $75.. I LOST IT.. I proceeded to explained that Gratuity is earned by service above normal, and simply making our sandwiches was their job, they were not technically doing anything to earn gratuity since we were picking it up.. and the online menu does not indicate an automatic gratuity, thus they have no legal ground to add it when we walk in the door. The other 2 working, were much nicer, and agreed we had not been told about the gratuity. it was removed. In the end I Added my own matching gratuity because they were nice, young kids and it became more of a learning opportunity for all of them. I am tired of being punished for spending lots of money at food establishments. IF YOU WANT A TIP, EARN IT. I will never agree to reward mediocrity. We had the BEST meat ball sub after a long 6 hour hike. It hit the spot to say the very least. The sub was incredibly fresh and savory. We can't believe we hadn't been in here before!! Hands down the best sandwich shop in Bozeman, MT. I used to eat here weekly during my college days and now I make it a point to eat here at least a couple of times every time I fly back to Bozeman to visit my family. Their sandwiches are huge and the whole can easily feed two though I can eat a whole after a long run. Their cheese steak sandwich is hands down the best cheesesteak sandwich in the country. I have tried every cheesesteak sandwich shop in Philadelphia and it doesn't compare to a cheesesteak at the Pickle Barrel. As someone who lives close to campus the pickle barrel is a perfect go to! Its delicious, fast, and easy for on the go. Other reviews have talked about bad costumer service but I have never experienced that, everyone there has always created me with a positive attitude! Be prepared, their is no inside seating and parking is a challenge. I came for a sandwich, I had half of a Mushroom Philly Cheesesteak. I hadn't gotten a Pickle Barrel sandwich in ~ 8 years since college and was skeptical if it could hold up to my memories of it, and it definitely did. I always go for a cold sub (the Italian is my jam) so I can only speak to that, but damn, so delicious. The seasoning/dressing combo on their veggies really makes the sandwich. Rather underwhelming. After reading their website and some of the reviews here on Yelp we were excited to try it out. I got the cheese steak hubby got the Ken's special and of course we got some pickles from the barrel. My sandwich was nothing spectacular and was mostly bread and I didn't even finish 1/4 of it. Just blah. Hubby said his was okay but nothing special. The pickles seemed like maybe they were the bottom of the barrel (pun intended). On the plus side, the staff was friendly and service was quick. For almost $19 I just was expecting more :-( read more

We have been eating pickle barrel for years and unfortunately the last few times we have gotten it, the quality has gone down significantly. Most recently I ordered a cheese steak. the sandwich was such a mess that I couldn't even pick it up to eat it. the bbq sauce was oozing out of the package. My husband ordered the same thing and his sandwich barely had any meat on it. This is the quality we have been seeing. This place simply does not know how to make a good sandwich. The... + veggies are old, and there's not much selection. + rolls are bland, and cannot be toasted because they apparently don't have a toaster in the place. + sandwich construction method is basically jam all the meat into a ball, sprinkle on 2 pieces of XX vegetable, and then pack the mother with shredded lettuce. squishy, soggy, uninspired...no respect for the potential that is "the sandwich". A real shame. Oh, and make sure you ask for "no mayo" if that's what you want -- if you don't mention it, well, it's going on your sandwich. I can remember at least two times calling out the sandwich maker in the back (i.e. "Hey! Is that my sandwich you're making?") for either making my sammie wrong, or hosing it with mayo against my will. I've eaten here a few times because I work close by on campus -- but really? I only go here because the lunch options in this area are so slim. Somebody should open up a real sandwich shop next door to this place -- they'd make a killing! read more
